Japanese Star Wars Kubricks:
Exclusive Carded Kubricks
by Dale Justus
Following up on our Kubrick features on Series 1, 2 and 3 is our wrap-up on Medicom's complete carded collection, to date.
Bape Boba Fett
The first carded release was the Bape Boba Fett. Paying homage to the vintage line, this Boba Fett was released with the Fireball design that appeared on the old classic style cards but slightly smaller. This was only available at the Bape Gallery Medicom Toy Exhibit 03, in Tokyo, Aoyama Japan from June 7th to 29th 2003.
This is the same vintage style version that was released in Kubrick Series 1 with the 1 yellow and 1 red gauntlet chase figure. A very limited released as only 150 of these are known to be made.
Shortly after the release of the Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker made his appearance in the carded set. Luke also appears on the classic style card and is a blonde haired version compared to the Luke of the Early Bird Certificate set which has brown hair. Only to be obtained first at The Art of Star Wars at Kyoto National Museum Japan from June 24th through August 31st, 2003. A limited quantity was available as an internet mail order exclusive to Japan only.
2004 brought us more carded Kubricks. RD-D2 made his appearance on a vintage style Droids card at the Wonder Festival Toycon in Japan. Limited to 2004 pieces, 500 were sold at the Wonder Festival February 22nd and 1504 were up for order as an internet mail order exclusive to Japan only for a total of 2004.
Medicom Toy Exhibition 04 at the Parco Museum June 12th, 2004 brought us the Black Shoulder Pauldron Sandtrooper. This figure is same as the White Shoulder Pauldron that is in Series 2. This is another very limited run like the carded Boba Fett as it was only available at the Exhibition to invited guests. It is still unknown at this time the number that was produced but the quantities might be the same as the Bape Fett of 150.
Droids Boba Fett
Boba Fett makes his appearance again on a card but this time as a Droids version. Limited to 2004, 500 were sold at the summer Wonder Festival on August 29th, 2004 and 1504 were available as an internet mail order exclusive to Japan only. This Droids version is the same as the Series 1 ESB Boba Fett with 2 red gauntlets.
Last for the year is the carded Hologram Princess Leia. Leia made her debut at the WCC 19, the World Character Convention on Nov 21st, 2004 at Tokyo, Japan. 500 were also sold at the Convention and another 1504 were available as an internet mail order exclusive to Japan only for a total of 2004.
