Art Of Republic Commando

I'd say this is one of the most highly anticipated video games to bless the Star Wars world in a long time, and the hype continues around it as StarWars.com updates with an article on the art involved in creating the game.

The shots are rather rugged and military looking, pulling off the premise of the game as a military/tactical first-person shooter. Very vivid images, and a good article too, so click the image and read on soldier!

Empire At War Now At Lucasarts Too

Lucasarts has put together their official announcement of the Star Wars: Empire At War Real-Time Strategy Game due out sometime in the somewhat distant future. As you know, we here at JediDefender.com have been giving you random articles on this upcoming title that have surfaced online, but now Lucasarts has thrown their news on the game up, including some screenshots and conceptual art.

I personally love flipping through a game's concept art because you can really get an idea of what the developers are going for while creating these games. So, guess what? Yes, go check it out by clicking the Empire At War image above! Keep in mind, the game's title is even still listed as "tentative" yet though, so this game is really still in early stages. Enjoy those screenshots though because they're really impressive. Too bad I don't see much for the Rebels on the field though besides their one new tank design.

Celebration 3 Exclusive Figure: Talking Darth Vader

The Official Site has announced the Exclusive Action Figure for Celebration 3 and it sounds down right evil. It's Darth Vader with a base from which some lines that were recorded by none other than James Earl Jones himself will emenate. Included are the following phrases:

  • "The dark side of the Force is strong with you"
  • "Your journey to the dark side is now complete"
  • "Prepare to experience the Revenge of the Sith. It is your destiny"
  • "Welcome to Star Wars Celebration III. Never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

Celebration 3 is this April in Indianapolis. It sounds like Hasbro and the Con will allow for wider distribution and make the figure easier to obtain than the George Lucas figure was at Celebration 2.

    More Sneak Preview Shots

Another batch of JD.com readers have reported finding the Sneak Preview wave at their local southern California Wal-Mart at the low price of $5.88 plus tax. Loaded with articulation, these figures are a great way to tease the fans to prepare for the Episode 3 onslaught! JD.com forum member Tydirium was kind enough to send along some pictures of the preview figures free from their plastic prisons, so click on through to the full story and check them out!

Sneak Preview Figures Hitting the Pegs!

Whether by mistake, or not, it appears as if some of the Sneak Preview wave figures are starting to hit retail pegs ahead of their officially scheduled Feb. 1 street date. JD member Robb writes in (with a picture) that he found General Grievous and the Wookiee Warrior at a SoCal Walmart today, for a tolerable $5.88 each. Since these aren't technically "allowed" to hit the pegs for another couple weeks, this may just be a lucky find for now (though I'm sure there will be more). Regardless, congrats Robb. Nice find!

Empire At War... Yeah, It Still Is

Remember my news article on the upcoming Real-Time Strategy Game, Empire At War due out on PC some time down the road? Well, I found another article on the subject here recently from 1 Up.com. It's a much more civil and informed article than the previous one as far as its "bashing" of previous RTS games for Star Wars.

Check these very preliminary screen shots and articles on the game out though, and start forming early opinions and hopes. I for one am still already a little irked they changed the TIE Crawler's design completely rather than using its original design from West End Games... But what do I know?

    More Republic Commando Goodness

Two more videos in addition to two which we reported that were posted on Yahoo Games have now all surfaced on Republic Commando's Official Website. Click and enjoy. The two new videos are pretty interesting, covering "Squad Revive", and "Squad Movement". The game's shaping up to be good, and praise is coming in for it.

Also in Republic Commando News, click the image/link provided above of a Thermal Detonator "Stress Ball", and learn how to receive that FREE when you pre-order Republic Commando from Lucasarts. I rarely pre-order myself, but that little extra may just make me cave in on this one.

    Sneak Preview Wave Arriving?

Word on the street is they are arriving at stores (Target at least), but not making it to the shelves just yet. The boxes are dated 2/1/05 and not allowed to hit the shelves till that date.

Will they slip up and go out early? Anything is possible, but these are arriving to stores and just not making it to the floor I guess, so keep your eyes open for new figures on that date. It's coming up right quick folks!

    Strategy Gaming Gets A Facelift

At least Star Wars Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games are getting a facelift, as per the scans of PC-Zones upcoming article on the new Star Wars RTS: "Star Wars: Empire At War". These are first looks at a genre of gaming that Star Wars fans have really needed an upgrade in.

The article is quite good and revealing, though I'm noticing that they're scrapping some previously established EU designs and redesigning things themselves. They're also incredibly harsh towards Force Commander, a game that was admittedly flawed but was innovative in many ways as well, especially since 3-D RTS gaming was something new when Force Commander came out.

Anyway,Read on to catch all the details on this that are surfacing.

Defender Wishlists II: The Phantom Menace

Some time ago we ran an informal poll with your 10 most wanted characters from the current 5 Star Wars films. With the recent DVD release, an OT heavy year in 2004, and most of the plans done until Episode III, I thought it would be a good time to revisit those lists. Here's how it works: You send your Wish List for your 10 most wanted 3 3/4" figures to me, be it new figures, resculpts or even re-releases, and I'll tally the votes. After three weeks of list taking I'll publish the results and we will move on to the next movie.

The first Prequel Episode I:The Phantom Menace is on the clock. If you need help coming up with names check out the Official Site's Databank: Episode I. Entries will be taken by e-mail: spearson@jedidefender.com or you can post them in our forum!!! Have fun and thanks for sending in your lists (remember to limit it to ten)!

    Republic Commando Videos On Yahoo!

Posted at Yahoo Games are two REALLY incredible videos that you guys have to check out if you're a gaming fan. These things really pimp Republic Commando to the fullest, so Click Right Here and start downloading.

The first video highlights the characters, while the second highlights tactics. Watching the combat take place shows a pretty intense experience. This looks like Ghost Recon in Star Wars, with a little bit of flare and enhancement. You can't argue with that folks!

I have to say if this game really takes off, and if we're lucky little Star Wars fans, a Classic Trilogy version of this game would blow gamers away I believe. This is looking real nice.
