New Review: Garindan

We're back in action with a new review this week. I took the old magnifying glass this time to Garindan, everyone's favorite snitch. While this figure's articulation isn't quite perfect either, I have to admit that my opinion once I got this one changed dramatically. Check out the full review for all the juicy details Garindan holds!

Of course when you're finished reading, feel free to stop by our Reviews Forum and share your thoughts on this review with us, or create your own critiques on Hasbro's wares.

Insider 89 Arriving

The latest issue of Star Wars Insider is hitting mailboxes starting today. It's always a nice surprise when this just shows up out of the blue in my mailbox.

This issue has a focus article on Han Solo, the new Lego Star Wars game, and the less than stellar OT DVD's. In collectible news they take an in-depth look at Sideshow's Scum & Villainy figures, Gentle Giant's Rancor Statue, Master Replica's Studio Scale Falcon, Hasbro's Force Action Sabers and a good bit more. That's a lot of Comic-Con recapping in this issue!

New "Greatest Battles" Figures & Titanium Hitting Shelves

Several JD SoCal'ers, including myself, have stumbled upon the initial wave of the Episode III "Greatest Battles" figures on Walmart shelves over the past day. Included in the initial mix are ROTS re-releases of the 501st Clone, Tank Gunner, 3PO, Dooku, (blue) Royal Guard, Prego Padme, Emperor, Kit, and the Wookiee Warrior.

Also hitting store shelves this week has been the new 3" Titanium A-Wing (blue), Super Star Destroyer, and Sandcrawler. Not to mention the 6" Falcon, Vader's TIE and AT-AT have also been trickling out this month as well. So good luck on the hunt for all this loot!

Remainder of Cantina Bar Is On the Way!

Though Hasbro has privately confirmed this for the past year or two, they told me yesterday morning that the U-shaped portion of the Cantina bar is finally, officially, on the way as part of 2007's 30th Anniversary line next year, no doubt about it! They continued, "...and as for your next question, yes, if all goes as planned, you should be getting the Distillery portion of the bar as well, the following year, in 2008" (with a proud grin). So there ya' go, hopefully Wuher and our Cantina denizens, will be a happy and drunk bunch in the not-so-distant future!

Hasbro's Commemorative Tin Collection

Hasbro is putting out a new collection of Commemorative Tins for the 30th Anniversary line next year, including what appears (so far) to be one tin with two sets of two figures each, in the style of the old Vintage 2-pack cards, for all six movies in the Saga. Click through to the "Full Story" below for the breakdowns on the Prequel sets that we know about so far, all of which are just fancy rehashes. Jared just sent the pix in as well, so click the button above to go to our Hasbro photo archive (in progress). Also, regarding Hasbro's free Saga Collection figure poster, fans get to reach into a life-sized Gonk Droid to retrieve their freebie. Pretty cool! Now if only we can have the Gonk as a freebie...

I came across the Endor wave tonight at two different Walmarts in the Los Angeles area, so apparently this wave is finally rolling out to retail. Kenner Employees: Where Are They Now?

My good friend efranks tipped me off to this interesting article in a Cincinnati Newspaper. The article isn't about Star Wars per se, but it does feature where a number of the axed Kenner/Hasbro employees (some who worked as far back as the original vintage line) are working today in the action figure industry. It seems many have found a home working on the latest Pirates of the Carribean film's action figure line!

Sith Takes A Backseat

Well it was fun while it lasted I guess. Revenge of the Sith, last year's grand Star Wars finale, got bumped in one-day total take at the box office according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. What could possibly have caused this? None other than Pirates of the Carribean 2: Dead Man's Chest, which also managed to sneak past ROTS for the largest 3-day opening total as well. Toy Fare Inbound With Info

With issue #109 of Toy Fare magazine just around the bend for subscribers, Star Wars fans are anxiously anticipating news on the latest Fan's Choice poll run by the magazine. Will it be good news for you, or will your choice lose out? Only time will tell, but visit our friends at The Jawa.com, as they seem to have some inside hints that sounds as though fans of film figures won't be happy while fans of Expanded Universe may have reason to cheer. Either way, we will know very soon which figure(s) Hasbro will be dishing our way from the poll!

Visit To Rancho Obi-Wan Part 3

The official site updated again with part 3 of the ongoing Visit to Rancho Obi-Wan series. Feel free to click on through to see Steven Sansweet's extensive collection of Star Wars games in this edition, but remember you have to be a Hyperspace Member to see the series. It's definitely been one of the more beneficial exclusives for being a fan club member though, I must say.

ToysRUs.com Is Live

Toy retailer Toys R Us was in a nasty battle with their online sales partner Amazon.com and recently won a split with them in court. As such it is definitely of interest to Star Wars collectors to know that the new ToysRUs.com website is up and running. Yet another site to bookmark it seems, and hopefully find some nice prices in the future too.

Return of the Pittsburgh Toy Show

The Pittsburgh area braces once again for the return of the Pittsburgh Toy, Comic, & Childhood Collectibles Show at the Monroeville Expo Mart. The show runs from July 29th to the 30th, and is conveniently located just East of downtown Pittsburgh.

This year the show steps it up a notch for Star Wars fans with the original intergalactic pimp, Billy Dee Williams. Everyone's favorite scoundrel will be live signing autographs at the show for the first time in Pittsburgh. The show usually draws a lot of Star Wars both old and new. You can also get snapshots with the local 501st Legion members in costume, and yours truly will be among the crowds opening day as well.
