Title: Tedious Customs *UPDATED... AGAIN!*
Post by: Darth Tedious on November 13, 2005, 06:03 PM
I haven't been Star Wars customizing for very long, so I don't have a heck of a lot of stuff to show, but I thought I'd throw in anyway.

I hope you like the stuff and I love to hear your comments and suggestions.

I thought Id' start off slow with my Mace Windu Jedi Starfighter incl. his R4-P22 astromech.

This is a smuggler based on the alien in the Star Wars Bountyhunter game ad.

A simple custom using Myo's head and forearms on Plo Koon's body.

This is my favourite custom so far.

A closer look at Mace's astromech.

That's all for now, util my time frees up some and I can do more work. Anyone who has already seen this stuf on the RS boards, I apologize for the repetition.  :P

Wow! I love that starfighter and his astromech!

You're off to a fantastic start.  I wish I was 1/10 this good when I began doing this.

Pokks is a great design and you did an excellent job in choice of parts and painting.

The Jedi is very cool too, but my favorite is the Quarren Skiff Guard.  What a great looking figure!  I wish this was being made in the 2006 Saga line instead of Barada!

Thanks for the compliments guys, much appreciated.

It really makes me want to do more work, but I am so busy right now that my hobbies have had to take a backseat.  :'(

I'm really  hankering to do more stuff. I hope in December.

Finding time for this hobby is tough.  And when you do, it seems like you have to sacrifice a lot of free time to do it.

What I do, is a few nights a week I watch TV and customize at the same time.  Kill two birds with one stone.   ;)

That's a good idea CHEWIE. But for some reason, when my girlfriend is around, which is always, it annoys her if I am customizing and not talking to her.

I find it odd that if we are watching TV she doesn't consider it a waste of time, but if I am watching TV and customizing she does consider it a waste of time.

Don't get me wrong, she's very supportive of my Star Wars habits, but I also have 2 work contracts to finish and we are in the process of selling our house, so she would rather that I be painting the kitchen than painting a Clone Trooper for some reason.

Go figure.  ;)

I totally understand that.  Luckily, my wife doesn't seem to mind when I'm customizing.  Usually she watches a different show in the bedroom, so it allows me to keep the painting going.  Once in a while she does get annoyed though.

The wives and girlfriends (You can't  live with em and you can't kill em) ;D
But I'm pretty lucky once I put the baby to sleep and watch 2-3 TV shows a week with the wife shes happy so I get about 1.5-2 hrs a night doing waht I like to do.

Great job!  My favorites are the smuggler and the Quarren!  What head is that on the smuggler???

Nice painting on the fighter, too.  All in all, some very, very fine work!!

Thanks Quazar. The head and body of the smuggler is a Cloud Car Pilot. I painted his hood to look like part of his head. I added gills and goggles with sculpy.

He's based on this guy from the Bounty Hunter video game commercial.

Nothing spectacular, just simple repaints, but I really enjoy doing Astromechs. For some people it's Clones, for me it's Astromechs.

Those astromechs look better than the upcoming EE exclusives in my opinion.  Well done!

Thanks CHEWIE. I was kind of disappointed when I saw that there is an orange R4 unit in one of the multi-packs. I guess I can always paint my orange guy another colour.  ;)

I was priming this AT-RT Driver to prep it for a camo variation, and I though he looked pretty cool just white. So I gave him a Stormtrooper-esque colour scheme.

This is my Stealth Advanced Reconnaissance Craft - SARC.

Funny how a simple black on black paint job seems to take the "albatross" look off this ship.

Now I just need 2 more Black Variant Clone Pilots.

That's freaking COOL!  Now I'm going to have to pick up an extra AT-RT driver to de-camo.

I know, I was surprised how good the AT RT Driver looked without camo. I have to say he was one of my least fav ROTS figs before.

That AT-RT driver does look great with the white armor.  Phruby made a similar one a while back too.  I think this would be a no-brainer for a repack for Hasbro actually.  Who wouldn't want it!  It's awesome.  If you're lazy, you can do what I did and just put the head on a regular Clone #41 body and just have to repaint the head.

The ARC fighter looks great too.  Really evil looking... I think a dark blue would also be a cool color scheme.

Thanks CHEWIE. I'll have to look up Phruby's AT-RT Driver.

I thought about dk blue on the SARC, sort of like a WWII Corsair paint job. But again I decided to go black on black. I am going back in right now with some brass detailing on the engine parts.

I said this over at RS, your ARC and Driver look really good. Looks alot better than my ARC repaint. Real cool.

This guy was in the works for a while and I kept putting him down to work on other stuff.

I am not sure if he's finished ot not. He's an Ithorian peasant for Tatooine dio fodder.

It's my first use of softgoods.  ;)

Great work!

The trandoshen looks awsome. I have an extra Bossk Bust-Up. I was going to use to make another Merc. But, I think I might copy this part mix if you don't mind?

Immitation is the best form of flattery.

Can't wait to see more.

Thanks for pointing that out CHEWIE. I wasn't aware of Phruby's custom. I checked it out and mine is similar. I swear it is a coincidence though.   :-[

Beautiful update!  The astromech, not much one can say on that other than it's really painted well, and the blue leg stripes make a good contrast with the rest of his coloring.

The Trandoshan looks really nice... I think his legs look a bit long, but it doesn't take away from the figure.  Good use of the body for this one.  Did you sculpt that collar?

The Ithorian is my favorite.  I like the cloth goods undergarment, that's very creative!

Thanks CHEWIE.

It's funny that you commented about the Trandoshen's legs looking too long. Originally, I just removed the Myo fig's feet and stuck Bossk's on, but he had the proportions of an ape. I added Bossk's ankle bandoliers to lengthen his legs. I used the original OTC Bossk side by side with my custom for comparative anatomy. So his legs are the correct length, as long as the OTC Bossk's legs are correct.  :-\

I really should stop posting astromechs I guess. But they are for me what clones are for everyone else.
 ;D

Glad you like the Ithorian. They are my fav SW race.

Thanks again!

Absolutely sensational.

I tend to think of Trandoshans as being built like athletes, so long legs work for me. He looks pretty dang menacing (and I think I might lift your recipe...) I also really dig the inclusion of some brighter colors here. *Very* nice work.

The Ithorian is, quite simply, perfect in terms of overall look and execution of soft goods. Combining the cloth inner robe with a beautifully painted outer cloak just makes him pop off the screen. And the paintjob on the skin makes him look very distinct from the Hammerhead we already know. In a perfect world he might have sleeves, but that's me being unfairly picky. Excellent figure.

The astromech looks sharp. I like the color choices a lot. He would make a nice addition to EE's exclusive sets. The only gripe I have - and it's endemic to astromech customs - is that you can usually tell when one's custom painted vs. factory painted.

Very nice work all around! :)

Thanks InRem for the comments.

That soft goods on th Ithorian is nothing more than a piece of cloth tucked into the plastic cloak that I painted blue, or rather stained blue.  ;)

I plan on doing some sleeves for him too. I'll update when I do.

Thanks again.

BTW, I think I have a solution to make my astromechs look more factory painted, I'll post if it works.

Okay, I've been resisting the notion that my Trandoshen's legs are too long, but I am going to have to admit that you guys are right.

Thanks for pointing that out because I probably would never have noticed.  :P

I think I can shave some height off his ankles and it might make all the difference.
