Title: In Rem's Customs - PN Updated: 6/12
Post by: In Rem on October 27, 2005, 12:39 AM
I'm new to the boards, but I've been lurking for a while and have been spending a lot of times at other customizing sites. Any feedback is appreciated, as I'm trying to ramp back up in the hobby. Thanks in advance.

First up is my Nemoidian Field Officer. I was thinking of doing some fanfic for this guy, but I kinda like the idea that he's generic for some reason.

Next up is my take on the Heavy Clone, adapted in part from the new stills for Battlefront II. I do have this guy marked for and placed with my own fanfic unit, so I'll eventually name 'im.

Finally are two group shots of Clones in my custom unit. It's commanded by Koe, the one in the middle of the first pic. The custom AT-RT driver is a scout I'm calling Qoz.

The two guys in front are grunts. I need (I think) three more to make a proper unit of eight.

Thanks!

Hey In Rem! Welcome to the boards!

These look pretty nice! The Neimoidan is a lot of fun, but my favorite is by far the the clone with the Bacara parts. The visor looks really good on there, and it's your best weathering job out of all of the pictured clones, I think. That mud spattered on his helmet looks great; I like the fact that it's gray and looks like it's dried on there. For some reason it makes me think of pics of soldiers from WWII.

Look forward to seeing more in the future. Mix it up, though...don't do mostly clones! They're cool, but I'd like to see what you can come up with when you really cut loose your creativity.

I like the clones, too, but, after a while, I tend to have a hard time remembering all the different ones, if only because there are so many.  But the weathering and custom paint jobs look very, very good.

I really like the Neimodian...Extremely clever creation.  My only criticism - paint the helmet grey or something to make it look less like a trooper helmet.  Other than that, great work!

Welcome to the boards!!

Cool, very glad you landed here InRem!

I really like the Nemoidian, the helmet looks so good on him, and I love how you made his eyes darker.  Everything goes great on him.

The clones are all nice too.  I probably like the AT-RT driver the most.  Excellent weathering, they all look like they've survived some tough battles, and shot many Jedi in the back.   ;)

Hi Rem

Great clones there's not one in the whole bunch that I don't like but my favourite is the field officer the use of the WW2 german grey coat is very well done and it really suits the part well done.

Very nice!
The Neimoidian turned out great!  I like the subdued color scheme and the hollowed out Bacara helmet is very cool.

Your clone squad looks pretty tough.  The additions to the Bacara-helmeted Heavy Weapons Clone are perfect - they blend in nicely and the paint job is really well done.

The only thing that I would do to Koe would be to add some sort of visor (like Cody), a kama (like Bly) or the suspenders/holster combination (like Gree/Appo).  I think that would help him stand out more from his grunts.  Of course Commander Thire had no distinguishing marks from his grunts (that I'm aware of), so leaving Koe as is would still be fine.

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

I know everyone has their clones, and they do get boring at times. Still, it's a great way to get back into the hobby for someone like me who was away for so long. :) I'll keep doing them b/c they are a lot of fun, but I fully intend to get into more non-clones, especially aliens like Nemoidians (my Clones need someone to kill, after all)

Gregorbian - I was planning a really odd fanfic for Koe that explains his minimal differences. It's complicated, and I don't want to reveal anything in case I do actually write it up some day. Koe does have a different antenna on his back, an ARC-esque scanner on the side of his helmet, and the shoulder pauldron. Plus he has a variation paint job on his helmet, so he's a *little* different. :) I have 10 Commanders, though, and I need to do something with them, so who knows...

hemble - The WWII Heavy Coat is a CHEWIE idea I took in a slightly different direction. I like to attribute credit where it is due :)

CHEWIE - As everyone says about their custom clone unit, mine are particularly ruthless. Koe named himself such for "Kill On Entry"...his unit is a reflection of that attitude. :) Thanks as always for the very kind words.

Quazar - Believe it or not, that helmet is gray. :) The idea behind it is that this Nemoidian killed a heavy Clone (no small feet for a fleshy frog) and took the outer shell as his trophy... mostly to rub salt in the wounded egos of his enemies who see him wearing it in battle (sounds like something a Nemoidian would do). For that reason I didn't want to go too different on the color, so I just made it light gray.

DD - More aliens to come, I promise! Thanks for the kind words.

In Rem, welcome out of the shadows...
First off, great field officer. Very nice mix of parts.
Nice paint and weathering apps.

The heavy clone is nicely done. It fits in with all the "original concept" clones that are out these
days, but could easily be mistaken for an actual movie clone.
Same can be said for your others.

Keep up the great work.

I forgot to post this guy last night. He's an early IG series "War Droid". I envision him as being a tool of the Republic/Empire to infiltrate heavy fire/unknown areas where Clones wouldn't fare too well. (think of a more dangerous version of a bomb squad recovery robot)

That said, I'm thinking this guy would make a really good sidekick for my Nemoidian above...

That IG droid really has a Separatist feel to him, so I think it might be a good idea to have him go along with the Nemoidian.  He looks just evil as hell, and the wires on him are a pefect touch.  I'd buy multiples of this if it were a regular carded figure.  Great paint/color scheme too.  Very realistic!

at last a realistic fig to hold this huge gun from the POTF2 era

the mix of parti is very nice on this IG unit, the paint details are great too

I like this IG also. He's kind of a transitional droid from battle droid to IG. Its kind of like the lancer droids from the CW cartoon.

I've been inspired by this InRem.  One of my next projects will to be to create a couple of Lance Droids, using your custom and the one that Owen D made as a reference.

Owen's CW Lance Droids are AMAZING.

I found that with all the little details to IG, it's not hard to get a good look with even minimal painting skills, so I expect yours to be something else, CHEWIE (but no pressure... ;) ). And he lends himself to liberal abuse when you're weathering him, too.

I can't wait to see what *you* come up with for this guy, CHEWIE.

Thanks InRem, when I do, it won't be anything spectacular probably.  I'm sure yours and Owens will be much better.  I won't be doing any sculpting, but I am going to try and give him some really good articulation.

Just a little fun...

I finished another Koe grunt tonight (he's the one in the back on the left; nothing special), and decided to put him in a scene indicative of the kind of messes Koe regularly finds himself in.

This is my first real stab at anything like this. Let's just say I can now see why Chewie sometimes has to re-shoot his pics :).

Here's a preview of a Mon Calamari Jedi I've made to lead Koe's troops (until Order 66, anyway). No idea on his name yet, but he's obviously a knight. The saber has an oversized hilt and a yellow blade... not sure why yet, but I had the right parts for it, and yellow just looks cool.

recipe is way too easy: Meena T head and hands, washed in burnt umber (heavy on the lighter flesh tones, lighter on the darker) to vary up the look, rest is Ki Adi Mundi with full black and umber wash. I did modify the Meena blaster to fit the belt, so this guy packs a sidearm, and I made a second, unlit saber hilt with a peg to fit the right hip. More pics later... I just wanted to get something up.

I think I'll be the first to comment on this, and it looks sweet! I've never thought of a Mon Cal Jedi, nice use of Ki-Adi's body and cloak. I like the long saber hilt, nice touch.

That Mon Calamari is simply amazing.  I was looking at the Ki Adi hood recently and liked how well it fit over a Mon Cal head.  Looks like I will have to copy this custom of yours.  I like how long his lightsaber hilt is too!

Thanks for the kind comments, guys. This one really is a cinch, so I hope you all will add a Mon Cal to your Jedi ranks, too. You really don't even have to paint him at all unless you want him to look a little different from Meena and Ki.

The hilt is from an odd 1:144 Marasai kit, and I had to wrap the lit sabre with some fine wire to make it thick enough for him to hold. I'd have preferred to not do it, but you don't see much of it when he's holding it, so... :)

I'll post some more pics of him tonight. Again, thanks for the feedback. I very much appreciate the time you guys take to comment.

Well after seeing this, I picked up an extra Ki-Adi on the way home from work. Got home and plunked Meena's head and hands on there and what a beauty it is!

Also, for some reason I had a helmet from the '94 GI Joe Star Brigade line lying around(Sci Fi's) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/94/scifi4.shtml) sans the redish/pinkish clear part on, so just the gray helmet. Lo and behold (with minor trimming on the front) it fits right on Meena's head. Got me thinking about getting some Mon Cal shock troopers going on. I'll put pics up soon.

I was kinda bored at work today, so I made this:

 :D

OK guys, here're the additional pics I promised of my Mon Calamari Jedi. I did some detailing tonight I hope you all will appreciate...

For anyone familiar with sea life, crabs and lobster take to cracked shells pretty well. They show a nice scar, but they do just fine with what appear to be pretty serious wounds. I imagine a Mon Calamari in the field is bound to take a shot in the head at some time, primarily because he's not all that concerned when something glances off the ol' dome. Check out the nice scar:

It is *very* difficult to capture in pictures (especially bad ones like the one below), but I've given him a secondary shell color - a nice cool green that's blended into the pinkish red we see on most Mon Cals. This is a shot of the back of his head. About as boring as they get, but the detail is in there if you look hard enough :)

Ready for action, sans photo effects on the beefy saber. It's about twice as thick as a typical lightsaber... I envision it as being some sort of light-meat-clever...

A slightly tighter shot with a photo effect lit saber.

Packin'

Hooded and slingin' bolts. This shot shows some of the green detail better.

"Dude, seriously, this is just ridiculous..."
"It wasn't my idea, Ki. I promise..."

OK, if you've made it this far, I want your help. I'm struggling with a good name for this guy. I like two word names. Here are some I've kicked around, and if you like one please let me know.

Sedo Tan
Sedo Sen
Dist Fahn
Des Fahn
Sedo Fahn

I'm open to any and all ideas. I really love this guy, but his name won't come to me, and he needs a name. :p

In Rem, I think this could be your very best work yet.  So detailed and realistic looking!  The levels of skin tone on him are perfectly done.

I could already tell from your earlier pic of him that this would be a great custom.  It really is quite possibly the most natural Mon Calamari Jedi I've ever seen anyone make.  Love the long lightsaber hilt and the blaster attachment.

Awesome figure, and thanks for the detailed pics and explanations on how you made him.  Best name?  I think I like Sedo Fahn.

Sedo Fahn *almost* sounds villainous... might be why I like it. :)

Thanks for the kind words, CHEWIE. I really like him thusfar, and I personally am more proud of him than my Clones (although I really dig my Clones, too  8)).

Hi Ya Rem

Mate this is one great custom  the shell colouring and even the scars are great and the photo shop work is brillant I especailly lik ehow you've given him a blaster very different for a JEDI.

And I have the perfect name for him Crus Tacean.

I wanted to keep this blaster b/c I feel like it's very Mon Cal. There might even be a story in there... I'm not sure yet. :)

I'm not too crazy about Crus Tacean, but I do like Crus as part of his name... I'll have to think about it.

Here's a repaint of an Episode I Battle Droid. I gave him a basecoat of black and then glazed that with red... turns out that ruddy brown red of the battle droids from AOTC and RotS, but without the orange plastic look. I kept the face "white" just to make this guy a little different.

He has some add-ons here and there, specifically a top-side "eye", a sensor array of some kind toward the back, an exhaust vent on his right side, and a nice long whip ant. coming out of the top. I used half a Q-tip jammed into the guts to immobilize the walking action. I envision him as some sort of field support droid for juicing up and communications.

That's a pretty swift custom there, if I do say so myself. I really like the blaster, it sort of defines him in a sea of generic Jedi.

Post by: CHEWIE on November 16, 2005, 10:21 AM
Good stuff, I really like how the Battle Droid came out... but for some reason, it's just a weird contrast seeing the head a different color than the body.  But if you're going for a look that the droid was mended together, then it looks perfect.

I think the Gonk is the best out of the two though.  Really nice adding on the extra eye at the top, the antenna looks great, and as always the paint is top notch.

Post by: In Rem on November 16, 2005, 10:35 AM
Thanks, CHEWIE. Of the two, I like the Gonk better also. The BD was just something I wanted to try :)

I might go back and paint his head later... last night I was just sitting there, looking at my new red battle droid thinking "how could he be *different*"? I find myself doing that a lot, even when I get to a point where I really like what I've made. I guess that's the kind of impulse that made me do this to begin with... heck, I might end up painting his head a completely different color at some point (yellow ala OOM-9?)

Thanks again for your comments. Very much appreciated.

Here are a couple of dirty clones... one has a custom paint job, the other is a red commander sans visor... both are dirty, dirty, dirty. :)

You may not be able to see it through the grime and damage, but he has light blue details on the helmet, chest, shoulders, thighs and calves. With as beat to heck as this one is, I'm guessing his buddies didn't make it.

And here's just a red commander without the visor (like the Star Corps) and weathered up...

Nothing fun to add... it is what it is. :)

Post by: In Rem on November 28, 2005, 11:42 PM
Here's a Nautolan spy I made for the Custom Challenge 7. He has a heavily modified AOTC Kit head, the body is a Sahara Dirk Pitt sidekick (NOT Dirk Pitt), and the feet are a Neimoidian Warrior's. His hands are scarred from burns and his left eye is blinded from a wound inflicted by the Republic when stray fire in an assault on his home town struck him in the face. (or something...:) )I hope you like him.

Holy cow, that's a great custom... the clones are always nice, but the spy figure... wow!  I love it, the use of parts for this one make it a downright evil and real looking figure!  Damn!  A+ work on this one In Rem!  I gotta find some of those Sahara figures, but no luck as of yet.

Very Nice! I was wondering who'd be the first to finish a custom using that body. I like the head modifications and I really like how you changed the feet, I'm not a huge fan of the feet theat come on that figure they are too long and skinny.

A little WIP action before I hit the sack. I decided Ki needed a shave.

This guy won't ultimately be Ki-Adi-Mundi. Not sure who he *will* be, but he'll be someone else. :)

It does make for a good look for this sculpt, though. Did you post pics?

Nope and I can't for a good 3 weeks. I left all my customizing stuff at the parent's house. I was hope for break last week and I only have 3 weeks until Christmas, so I didn't want to lug it all the way up and then back again. I kinda wish I did though. :-\

My head is a tad bit different. I left the mustache but I trimmed the beard part, and I still have the pony tail on there, I'm not sure what to do with it.

Here's the recipe for the first rifle - the one the blue-green Clone is toting...
G.I. Joe Spytroops Recondo: http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/recondo3.shtml

plus gray paint. :-)

It looks like it belongs in the SW Universe, but Hasbro gave it to a Joe. Go figure. I had it in my parts bin, and this guy was lucky enough to get it.

The other rifle in the red Commander's mitts is the same situation, Cobra Sniper Blackout: http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/blackout.shtml

It also came with a couple of other more recent figures. Some of these Joe guns - the less "real world" ones - look really good in the SW context.

LOVE the custom nautolan spy!  Excellent custom, extremely imaginative and brilliantly executed!  Well done!

Can't wait to see the clean shaven Ki...where will he end up?  Very nice job.  I've always wanted to use my spare TPM Ki head on a custom, but, with the beard, he looks too much like the character.  GREAT job.

Seeing the "shaven" one together with the regular head really makes me think how much Ki Adi Mundi (the figure, not the character) looks like "Kris Kringle" from "Miracle on 34th Street".

I'm not really sure what to do with the shaven Ki. I know he's not going to actually BE Ki... perhaps a Cerean mercenary? Perhaps a rebel fighter for this month's challenge.... I'm just not sure yet :). It's kinda fun when you really don't know what's going to come of something.

Here are a couple of figs I'm working on. Not sure if either will work for this month's challenge yet...

Cerean something or other... he looks like a peasant, but I'm thinking he could fill a lot of roles.

Recipe:
Dirk Pitt body.
Hood from Dirk's sidekick.
ROTS Ki head, shaved and shorn.
ROTS Ki hands (still need to figure out a better attachment system... may just have to glue them up)
Clone trooper feet (the feet that come with Dirk *suck*; these won't be white in the end)

Random tough/thug

Recipe:
Stukka pilot body.
Joe VvV swamp rat dude's head.
Random Joe helmet.
Naboo blaster.

Both of these guys will get *extensive* paint work. I was just happy with how these were lookin', and was hoping for an outside opinion.

Speaking of which, if you haven't seen Chapter 1 of K.O.E., check out the photo novels section.

Cerean- looks great the Adi without a beard is very different indeed but in a great way I think he looks alot like a Bantha shepard.

the second figure would be great for some kind of military personal I can't wait to see how you paint him up.

That is almost exactly what I am doing for my cerean peasant. I used the other Sahara body though. The new feet look a lot better but I'm not sure a peasant would be wearing armored boots. I think I'd give him some really muted colors, either earthones, or a really dull blue. Bright colors are usually more expensive.
Title: Re: In Rem's Customs - 12/05 - Two WIPs
Post by: In Rem on December 2, 2005, 11:03 AM
Ryan -

I'm still not sure this guy is a peasant. He has the right look for one, but I'm leaning on taking him in another direction... I'm just not sure what that is right now. :)

I think that once I get his head re-painted I'll have a better idea of what I'm really trying to do with him. If he turns out really friendly looking, well, he may just be an ordinary Joe caught up in the War somehow. If he comes out mean, well, I have about a dozen ideas for him...

I'm hoping for mean :)

As for the shoes, I may well sand them down to remove some of the armor detail. That or I'll make the shoes stolen... I'd be willing the bet there are lots of Clone shoes to be had if your planet has seen any significant Clone Wars action. ;)

Oh My GOD - that first figure is one of the coolest looks I've ever seen... Sahara figure body parts, right?   I have to get some of those.  The Ki Adi head is perfect there.  This really is a cool looking figure, and so unique.  CHEWIE's jealousy meter just increased by 7 points.

The other troop looking guy is very cool too... he really has an OT look to him.  Kinda has some sort of WW2 look to him too with the jacket, but that's a good thing.

Thanks, CHEWIE.

It's the body from the Dirk Pitt, but the hood from Pitt's sidekick (no idea on the name). I used the sidekick's body on that Nautolan, and I still have the extra hood from the Pitt figure that will make its way onto someone's head. :)

And I have two extra "generic" heads now, too. Best $9.50 I've spent on fodder so far.

The second figure is very WWII - Stukka were German fighter planes (to the best of my knowlege), and from the neck down this guy is a Stukka pilot. The head should be pretty cool when repainted. The helmet will also get a completely different look. more to come.

Thanks again for your comments.

Dirk's sidekick is Al Giordino. I've read Clive Clussler's novels. Anyway, the Cerean is awesome, he looks real cool with the hood and Ki's head shaved. They look really good, can't wait to see the final result.

A larger update by my standards... how about some galactic exiles?

First up is Exile #1 (Name pending). He's a humanoid alien species who serves as an expert scout for his small band of outcasts.

(I sincerely apologize for the sorry pic... :( )

(There's a sort of yellow vest effect going around the back of the jacket, but it's actually *part* of the jacket)

Next up is Exile #2, a guy I envision as the wise leader.

(I shaved down a Ki head and repainted the head and hands for a much more worn look...this guy wouldn't have regular access to a shower, and with all those skin folds I figure he probably gets quite nasty...)

This is a scout ship I'm calling the Kouhun (http://www.starwars.com/databank/creature/kouhun/index.html), and I expect that Exile #1 is its pilot.

Iso 1

Iso 2

Custom thruster array for added bursts of speed when eluding capture

Portside

Probably the best view. You can see how abused this thing is. I imagine it as being the victim of many a crash landing.

The undercarriage. I dusted all of the downward-facing surfaces in ruddy brown to add grit. This is not a ship that would see a lot of time outside a planet's atmosphere, so it gets down and dirty.

Final view - I painted out the inside in flat black just to darken the appearance of the cockpit from the outside. I preserved the stickers, though.

I've reassigned my Nautolan. These guys make a neat trio, I think. Expect to see them play a role in K.O.E. at some point. :)

Hi Rem

Mate they look absalutly great the reapint on the exile #1 is fantastic he turned out better then I thought he would to be honest with you the brown colour really suites him down to the ground.

Exlie #2 is simply perfect taking his goatee and ponytail off and making his skin tone a little darker makes him look like a whole new figure well done indeed.

And the Kouhun is a great little ship,  this I really really like as you've done it so simple and I think it is something that someone that has been exiled would'nt be-able to afford anything bigger great work all round mate.

Those aren't bad pics - I think they're just fine!

Exile #1 - he's awesome.  Removable helmet and all.  Really has a dark look to him, you don't know if he's a good guy or a bad guy.  Excellent helmet and all around paint job.  I love it.

Exile # 2 - Really, one of the most unique, different looking customs I've ever seen, and it is perfectly done.  Already commented on him more earlier, but I really love what you did with the Sahara parts.

Custom ship - Very well painted!  I always thought that the color of that mini rig was odd... now it really looks like a Star Wars ship.  Can't wait to see it in action!

Well done Rem, well done.

Although I don't really like the Cerean species, due to their Conehead resemblance, your Cerean exile sparks my interest.  Good mix of parts from different lines on him, and excellent paintjob and sculpt work on his face and head.  I don't have any suggestions or real criticism for him, his partner, or the ship.  They all look like I'd see them lurking around Mos Eisley or in a cave somewhere in the desert hills.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I think they've come along nicely. I need a new walking stick for the Cerean (that's a hobby file he's holding right now, and as much as I like it as his walking stick, I need that file back)

I have decided on a few names:

Nautolan - Pyt Sek
Isolationist political activist banished from his home long ago for attacking Republic officials he considered to be imperial occupiers of his home world. In the scuffle that resulted in his banishment, Pyt lost the use of his left eye. He refuses to patch his ghastly wounds, opting to display his scars as evidence of Republic corruption.

Cerean - Cezlu (pronounced "say-LOO") Jes
Religious leader who professes to commune directly with the Force as one would communicate with another living being. In other words, he speaks aloud to the Force and claims to get regular responses which he perceives as spoken word. Cezlu lacks any power to use the Force. He was banished from his home for alleging that leaders were too deferential to the warlords of the Republic and the equally corrupt Jedi Council.

Unknown alien - Ezo Ezu ("Ezz")
Origins unknown. Ezz speaks little of any language that Pyt or Cezlu understand, but he has been a reliable ally who seems to be very skittish of any form of authority figure. That's all Cezlu and Pyt require of him...

These exiles left their homeworlds and resolved to seek a new home on the Outer Rim where they could be free of any and all government entanglements.

Their plans brought them to the very edge of the civilized galaxy, but had they outrun the devastating reach of the Clone Wars?
Title: Re: In Rem's Customs - 12/10/05 - Kel Dor, Clone Radio Man
Post by: In Rem on December 10, 2005, 12:21 PM
A couple of new additions today...

First is I.O. (Eye-oh), Koe's radio man.

Large, whip ant. helps keep Koe in contact with his drop ship even on the longest foot patrol missions.

And here's one I've been wanting to do for a long, long time - a Kel Dor soldier. I think he might be my entry in this month's Custom Challenge.

The head is an AOTC Plo, the hands are from the AOTC Plo. The body is a Japanese Machine Gunner from the 21st Century line, and the gun is a cut down gun from the same figure.

I gave him a new skintone and resculpted his mask to try and make it clear he wasn't Plo. The hands have carved pegs, so his wrists are still articulated. The neck was sculpted to fit this body specifically. There was a lot of work there, actually. :) The skull is an Aqualish custom gone bad, so I'm going to work on stripping that down and painting it bone white for a prop. :P

And here's something I've noticed... the cape from the first crack at a Lando General Hasbro cursed us with fits Clones like a GLOVE. I think I'm going to coordinate the Kama and cape and just weather this guy... I'm digging the Vader-ish look!

Wow, InRem. Kicks the crap out of my radio man. How'd you make the antenna and the backpack? The Kel Dor soldier is awesome, but I'm not really sure how I feel about his gun. Maybe put the clip on the bottom? It sticks out too much, IMO. The Clone Commander is nice too- some weathering and maybe paint the cape a darker color- and he would look awesome.

the radio clone man is my favorite custom you have done, second only to the Mon Cal jedi. i really like the antenna length and the backpack. the leg pouch is a nice touch too. great weathering and coloring -- good job!

the Kel Dor soldier has a great skintone color and the paint job looks great on it. however, for some reason, it freaks me out --- looks sinister and sort of like zombie dead skin or something.  :-[

the Lando cape fits the clone commander great InRem, nice idea. it kind of reminds me of an Endor soldier type trench coat so maybe he might be some sort of clone sent to a Forest planet, if you wanted to paint the cape in camo colors. i'm anxious to see him finished.

The Sith are in full effect on this fair Saturday. Thanks for the comments, Nirvana and ripley!

Nirvana -
Hey, I thoroughly enjoy your Clones, so I can't agree that mine "kicks the crap" out of yours (although I appreciate your sentiment). The radio pack is a headphone can from a 12" SAS figure. The ant. is just a length of fairly rigid, insulated black wire.

On the Kel Dor, that clip is where it was located on the source gun (a Japanese WWII machine gun). I might make the clip shorter, but I like the idea of a top-mounted power pack for some reason. It's just different enough to make sense with an alien that looks as odd as a Kel Dor :)

As for the Lando cape, you've suggested exactly what I'm planning...I just have to decide on a color for the cape and kama to go with whatever base theme I choose...

ripley -
Thanks for the kind comments on the radio trooper. He came together better than I thought he would. I need to group shot my little squad now. Koe and his Killers are starting to look like a real-deal squad... :P

As for the Kel Dor, I am absolutely ecstatic with your comment! To me, Plo Koon looks like he has Zombie skin, so I was going for that, only blue! Look closely Plo... his skin looks *awful* - and at least when he's at Council he's clean and well-kept. This guy would be a bit field warn. No damage or anything, but rough. I understand where you're coming from with him freaking you out a bit, but think of that as a good thing :)

I'm not sure what I'll do with this Lando cape, but it will be around this Clone's neck... I just need to decide on a concept for him. Yours is a good suggestion.

Thanks both of you for the comments. I always appreciate hearing from my fellow customizers.

That is a very cool radio man! I like the rollup cott he carries and the radio backpack. The Plo Koon-like guy is got to be one of your best. I can see how you think he has zombie skin. He's not a guy I would like to meet in a dark alley.

Very nice update, very nice indeed.

Clone w/ cape - Yeah, you did find a great use for that damn cape!  All of a sudden it seems like a much better piece!

Kel Dor - Pretty cool there.  He kind of has a WW2 look to him still, but that's ok.  Maybe painting the uniform orange or something like that could make it look less "earthly."  But that's not a criticism, just an idea.  Good all around custom, and I like his skin tone.  The skull is cool.  Maybe drill into the eyes a bit to make them look more like sockets?

Radio Clone - What a great idea, a Communications Trooper - kind of like a Cobra TeleViper?  Did you mix parts with the AT-RT driver, or just repaint them?  Either way it looks fantastic and I love the accessories.  They look very useful and realistic.

Thanks, M_P and CHEWIE  -

M_P, the funny thing about that Kel Dor is I made him with the full intention of him being a good guy, either Rebel or Republic-loyalist. That whole alien design, for some reason, is quite intimidating, though. I like having someone who looks the part of the bad guy being in league with the good guys. :)

The bedroll on the Radio clone came from the same Japanese Machine Gunner who donated his body to the Kel Dor... that's a great figure for parts. Lots of pouches and ammo boxes with him.

CHEWIE, I have had that Lando cape in my parts bin for a long time, and I decided to go through and try on the capes I had to see what works. I was as shocked as you when THAT cape worked well. :)

The uniform on the Kel Dor is stock. I painted the lower legs uniform brown to give him the appearance of boots (as opposed to shoes and leggings). I may still change the color scheme up, but for now I'm inclined to leave him along until it bothers me... On that Aqualish skull, it's still very much a WIP. Good idea to bore out the sockets a little more.

And the Radio Clone is very much like a TeleViper. He's more inspired by the Vietnam and WWII movies I've see... always had a lightly armed radio man in the group, and it made sense to me that Koe and his squad would set down on a planet, leave their ship at the LZ, and then rely on the radio man to relay messages to and from the drop ship which in turn relayed the messages to high command/orbital ships. Overthought a little, probably, but good inspiration :)

Thanks again, guys.

The more I look at the Kel Dor, the more I like it. I like that he can look both ways-good and bad. He looks like he can be a tough guy with good intentions. I really like him. And, if you didn't catch my PM, thanks again for giving me that idea about the SWAT team. They're up in my thread now.

Man In Rem, you've been busy!  ;D
That thug and the Exile #1 are very cool, but my favorite custom is that vehicle!  It looks like it's seem some hard times.
I really like the use of the BBi (?) bodies - nice articulation while still maintaining the Star Wars vibe.  Good stuff!

EDIT: Looking over the figures again, I was wondering, does the Kel Dor Soldier have a removable mask in his hands or is that something else?  I love the way you painted his face, great details.

Gregorbian -

Hope exams went well. Assuming you've come through unscathed, you've accomplished the lion's share of the anxiety of finishing law school. Congrats!

Thanks for the comments. I've had some fun this fall with my customs. I'm kind of at a sticking point now with work and the holidays, but I'm sure I'll be back with something soon.

The skull my Kel Dor soldier is holding is just a failed Aqualish custom... I decided to make it into a bare skull from the battlefield. :) I may try to figure out a way to make it into some kind of helmet or macabre mask, but right now it's just a potential prop.

Thanks for the comments, and it's good to see you aroung again.

Long time no update, huh?

Here's a Jedi Master who will have a significant cameo in the in-production Chapter 2 of KOE. His name is Master Jole Suud.

It's a Plo Koon body with Ask Aak neckpost transplant, A.A. forearms, and A.A. feet. I think the robe is from E2 Obi Pilot. I slapped an IG-88 bandolier on there as Suud is a Clone Wars general, so he needs more than his basic Jedi gear. :P

That's all I want to let on for the time being :)

Comments are - as ever - appreciated.

Your Jedi General looks great.  I've been thinking of making a Jedi using the Ask Aak head - now I can see what he looks like.  I think the Bandolier is a simple but very effective touch.

Looks pretty good In Rem, a very believable design.  I might suggest some sort of repaint on the tunic just to make it look less recognizeable?  And honestly I'm not a big fan of that Jedi cloak, I always think it's bulky.  But it does look pretty good on him.  The bandolier is a great touch on him though.  Funny how little things like that can set a figure apart.

Very nice, I just love the look of him, very tough and ready for some action, MY only gripe is is head seems to high up of his shoulders :-\ And as CHEWIE said maybe change his tunic color to a dark brown, or black, maybe almost like anakin's.
Title: Re: In Rem's Customs - 2/25/06 - Jedi Master Jole Suud
Post by: In Rem on February 26, 2006, 01:48 PM
Thanks for the feedback, guys. This was a "quick-n-dirty" rendering just for the K.O.E. PN. It will become clear why I left him as shown when I get that wrapped up.

I don't really like the cloak much. I'd rather work out a way to fix his elbows (I posted previously that the elbows are ugly), but for the PN at this time this is what I needed.

The neck is the same one from Ask Aak. I think Gran just have long necks. :) I think it's kinda cool, but it does make him look a bit like a giraffe (which shouldn't be a shocker considering the influence of that animal on the Gran design).

The ankles are another area I think I can improve, but not right now. :)

Thanks again, guys.

Jedi Master Jole Suud looks very well done I like seeing different jedi figures and I also like the way you've done the tunic around the neck area.

Kel Dor privateer Silvith Rawe is also very well done the new body makes the head look totally different  great work mate.

It's nice seeing a big, burly Kel Dor figure, great use of the Ask Aak body there In Rem.  And the Gran looks a lot better without the cloak I think.  Usually I think of Gran being a bit thicker in the torso but one that is a Jedi is more likely to be in great physical shape.  Very good work.

I realy like Silvith Rawe.  I was going to ask what that body was as I didn't quickly recognize it.  He is such a great looking figure.  He just looks like he's a trouble maker.

I like the modifications for Master Suud.  However, I for one still liked the soft good robed version too.  THe fabric additions to hide the "imperfections" look nice.   My only compliant (albiet minor) is that I think the shin guards stand out too much.  Maybe if they were painted a little different.
Title: Re: In Rem's Customs - 3/3/06 - Master Suud, Silvith Rawe
Post by: In Rem on March 3, 2006, 11:38 AM
Thanks, Brent. The nice thing about the soft goods robe... I can always put it back on :)

The cloth fixes for the imperfections were somewhat improvised, and they don't look as good as I'd hoped. Still, I almost never use soft goods, so I think it's adequate. Plus, I think we'll see Suud again in K.O.E., and with these mods I can keep him poseable. He's actually capable of some pretty nasty combat poses, and I hope I'll get to show him busting up some Seps at some point.

Silvith is one of those figures that just happened. He's the leftovers of Suud, actually, with some POTF2 Lando in Disguise boots. I had entertained making him a senator, but the more I looked at him and then fiddled with his paint scheme, the more I decided he was someone who wasn't fit for senate work. :) He's going to be fairly prominent in the main storyline for K.O.E. How that happens I'm not entirely sure, but he's got a quality about him that makes me want to tell a story for him.

Thanks for the comments. I sincerely appreciate them.

Do you have any other pictures of Koe in his Asset Recovery gear? That looked like a really cool getup in your PN. By the way, loved Chapter 2. Great writing and pictures. Really got me hooked. Keep up the great work, man.
Title: Re: In Rem's Customs - 3/3/06 - Master Suud, Silvith Rawe
Post by: In Rem on March 3, 2006, 10:46 PM
That version of Koe is nothing more than an Evo Phase 1 Clone with the pilot helmet with the tubes draped behind his shoulders as opposed to around the neck. Then I threw the Clone Wars Obi Wan's bandolier on him and gave him a POTF2 Sandtrooper rifle... He's not that impressive when I don't drop him into sepia, actually. ;)

I'll be happy to post more pics if anyone wants to get a better idea for how that recipe worked. It was more a matter of need than design.

And thanks for the kind words on the PN, DarthN. Those are a lot of work, but a lot of fun, too. It means a lot when people say they enjoy the read.

I hope it doesn't take me as long to do Chapter 3 as it did to churn out Chapter 2, but who knows... :(

Thanks, PenDragon -

The lights-through-the-fog is so easy I'm almost embarrassed to use it so liberally.  :-[ It does work out OK here, though. Thanks for noticing.

I was very skeptical about the light green color, but then I slapped it on this Clone...

...a while back and he quickly became one of my favorites. When I started figuring out a way to bolster ST's appearance in KOE, I opted to tie ST to that paint scheme.

The soft goods cape was generously contributed by Gregorbian. I wasn't sure about it, but I really, REALLY like the figure more with this cape. The rubber cape was donated to the Clone, and I think it works better on him (the helmet conceals the neckhole, so it looks more cohesive than it did on ST.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. :)

In Rem, sorry I missed your Saesee custom.  I don't know how that happened.  Guess with being busy lately, I missed it.  It's a great custom, very down and gritty look to him which really gives him the tough tempo I wish we saw in the films.  The silk cape looks great.

On the clone, that's great work too.  Simple design that's not overdone yet looks like he's been through many battles.  Awesome.

Thanks, jedipurge.

I'd love to use a Clone Wars head there, but I never even saw the CW S.T. or Kit Fisto. :)

And unless S.T. got some surgery before EIII, the broken horn is a problem. :P I personally like the broken horn look, but I guess GL didn't want to see one of the Masters suffering any damage...

As for the unit markings, I just throw the paint around. It's a lot of trial and error. ;)

Post by: In Rem on March 17, 2006, 01:00 AM
OK, bear with me folks.

This is a concept battle droid I've been wanting to do since I got this Xevoz kit (http://www.hasbro.com/pl/page.viewproduct/product_id.13928/dn/xevoz/default.cfm) .

I shuffled up some parts, added some bits and pieces from some model kits and some fine wire, and modded the blaster, took out the legs, and added a neck extension and here we are...

I envision this being the droid equivalent of Grievous. No biological components, but very amorphous and able to twist and such. :)

Instead of legs he has repulsorlifter panels that he floats about on. He can aim them in any direction to create thrust. He can also reverse the panels to fasten himself fast to most surfaces.

I know it's kind of cheezy, but I think once I paint him up he'll make for a fun addition to my droid army.

FYI, he's about shoulder-high to a Clone Trooper when he's standing flat, so he's pretty massive. The blaster is definitely a BFG.

Interesting custom here, looks like a lot of parts were used.  I like the design, but admit I have a hard time seeing it as a war droid used by the Separatists.  More of a droid some independant group might have as a home-made security droid.  Looking forward to seeing it painted - I would suggest maybe, scuffing it up/adding a few dents to the armor for a more rugged look.

I would say that I agree it will look odd standing next to Battle Droids; that's why it seems like some independent group's droid to me.

Yeah, he's been reassigned, CHEWIE.

I know he's something of an oddball, but I wanted something really different to work on. :)

Hopefully I can work him into a PN where he will make sense.

I like this droid.  However, I agree its much more believable commissioned as a salvage droid.  He'd look good with my Jawas on Tatooine.

I love the "Stylized" poster look in the last photo.   It would be cool to have more customs displayed in this format.  Obviously you loose the detail of the figure but can really make a cool artistic view.

Thanks for the comments, Brent. Yeah, once I had him painted, I thought he looked more like a worker droid than a killing droid. :) I'll be putting him to use accordingly.

I think one way to make him blend would be to use some thin styrene and start making plates for him and then add little weld marks and such to make him look beat up and use also change the colors of the differant plates and you'll make him the perfect salvage droid.

Hey guys. I mentioned in another thread, but I wanted to post something a tad more visible.

As most of you know, I was posting here pretty regularly until a couple of months ago. The short version, work has gotten *crazy*. Never let anyone tell you being a lawyer sounds like an easy job. Anyway, I love my job, so I'm not complaining, but it does cut into the time I can take to post. I feel bad about that.

Without taking the time to poke through all the great threads, please know that I am checking up on you all regularly, and I am constantly amazed by the work posted by JD's custom community. Fritz's new hover tanks make me salivate... I really need to pay you to make me one, Fritz. CHEWIE's stuff is either consistently great or actually getting better. It's hard to tell when the work has always been so good. The PN section has added a couple of really fine stories... I particularly like Brent's Sith Jawa... I can't wait to see it develop. Longhorn is still cranking out amazing work with few photo effects and even fewer custom figs...

Anyway, I hope to be able to slow down a bit in the evenings this summer. If it works out, expect to see more of K.O.E. - a story I've written and rewritten so many times in my head... it has to come out sooner or later. :) Also expect to see some work on vehicles. You guys really inspired me with the challenge, and I have a hull that I think is going to make one of the most unusual speeders we've seen around here in a while...

Anyway, I feel better having shared a bit with you guys. Remember, even when I can't post, I'm out here really digging all the great work. Keep it up!

In Rem, it's great to hear from you, we all miss your comments and outstanding work, but we all realize it's usually very hard to find time with real world stuff taking most of our time.

Take your time, we won't forget your work and I know we're anxiously awaiting more in your KOE series.

 :)

Great to here from you In Rem, It is really tuff to find the time to keep up w/ all the Amazing work on these boards and still manage to customize yourself. I'm doing a bit of a catch-up day my self, and replying to so many of the post I've not had a chance to respond to.

I really Liked S4-71, I knpw some felt he did not fit in w/ the other Seperatist Droids, but I have to disagree. The Seperatist are made up of Hundreds of worlds, and their battle Droids are so veried in Design, I do not think this design would have a problem fitting in. Just look at the tank Droids and Spider Droids they don't even as though they come from the same universe yet alone the same battle field. Tri-Droids and Vulture Doids are also to radicly different designs. Anyway you decide to use this Custom would be great in my book.

I also can't wait to see your next chapter of K.O.E., this is one of the best Photo Novels on the Boards, and a personal favorite of mine.

Keep up the Great Work!

I know what you mean about not having any time. Im trying to fit several weeks of customs into one night. I type while I let the paint dry.

Personally I like the droid. What hes doing to that poor commander is just wrong, but its still cool none the less.

FYI: I put up a *very* short chapter for K.O.E. in the PN section. Enjoy.
