Oh that looks so cool!! Looks like Medicom isnt done with their SW license. Do you know how big that Fett is going to be?? Imagine if they're the same size with the Kubricks.

Will you be able to get some of these in from the Collectors' Club to sell, Simon? I'll definitely buy one off you, so please-please-please put me on the list if you are ;)

I'll be definitely be putting my name in the hat a couple of times.  But I couldn't come up with any R2's last time, so, again unfortunately, I can't make any promises to anybody for this one. I'll try and get to the event  and maybe pick up one.

Just the fact that its Boba allready sold me in! ;D I think it looks really good actually. I'd like to see Medicom start a new SW line with this concept, especially if they're the same size as Kubricks. I mean, the majority of SW collectors (and many still) didnt take Kubrick/chibi/SD style as their thing as well at first, but it grew on them over time. This one probably will do the same.

Arrived at the event and it was pelting down rain. Thank god the World Character Convention is in the biggest exhibition hall in Japan so there will be plenty of room to wait, in-line, out of the rain. Wrong! 2000 punters are lined up outside the door in the rain.  Nice planning Mr WCC Manager Man!!

I wait patiently in line behind about 1000, half-drenched people. Thats cool. Only 500 Bobas. I'm sure at least half of these guys will only be able to get their one limited Godzilla or Bearbrick or whatever!

The sneakers are just about soaked by opening time. 10.30am! Alright! Lets go!

10.32am. The line still hasn't moved.

10.35am. Still nothing! OK getting anxious now!

10.37am! A door at the back of the line near me opens! A Boba Collector! Lucky man! He's also a Godzilla, Gundam, and Bearbrick collector too!?!?! Followed by his 2 kids under the age of 5 who happen also to be avid Toy Collectors. His wife is also behind. Oh my god. A whole family of Boba etc. collectors! But wait there's more. Gandma and Grandpa that are waddling behing mum are also Boba Collectors. And then cousin Junko comes out..........well you get the picture.

I do a quick head count of men in line who were able the have children, mutiplied that by the average size of the Japanese extended family, divided it by pi and came out with a total of 326,433 people possibly waiting in line or in the wings, for Bobas.

I toss a coin and it tells me I have better chance of winning the on the 4th race at Flemington next week, so I head in for the scoop on the new Kubrick line.

Disappoint number 2!! The Medicom booth was a bit of a let down unfortunately!

But not all is said fellow toy lovers! However, I did score as an entry freebie....get this....an exclusive, WCC18, Medicom Japan in association with Tomy, limited edition Yelllow, Kubrick Daraemon....and this is the clincher....get this.... WITH EARS!!!!
For all you who have no idea what I'm talking about, you don't need to. Basically, I'm going to take this little, cute, yellow poor excuse for a collectible and and put it on the tracks of a highly used, bullet train route.

Sorry just a bit disappointed over not getting a Boba. Here's a couple of pics of it on Slave 1 though.

Boba Pics (http://www.slave1.jp/)

To Yahoo Japan I go!!

Hey Simon, before you go and destroy the Doraemon Kubrick I would definitely buy it from you if you have no plans of keeping it.   ;)  Sorry that you didn't get a Boba.   :'(  I fear these might go for more than carded Fett Kubrick's eventually.

Ah bad luck mate, sorry to hear about that. It angers me too to hear people can be so greedy and inconsiderate, especially when they very well know the high demand and limited number of this toy. Hope you at least had some fun yesterday though and maybe you still can score a Fett over the collector's club. Best of luck!

Actually, there was one good story from the day. I meet this guy from the States who flew out just to get the Boba and missed out. I think he ended up buying one from a dealer for $125.00, but he seemed happy as Larry!! I guess that's what collectiing is all about. He was due to fly home the following day. Not that's one expensive Fett, if you include airfares, hotels etc.

Title: Re: Medicom Vinyl Fett
Post by: Hes No Good to Me Dead on May 24, 2005, 12:41 AM
Yeah this Boba thing is getting a bit much. One of the reasons that they are doing so much of him this that one of the companies that is producing him in collaboration with him is Bounty X Hunter, but if that were the reason, there are at least 5 other great bounty hunters they could have done. I reckon a set on the 6 ESB bounty hunters in the VCD style would look completely awesome.

Mods. Do you want to seperate these posts from the Kubrick ones? VCD is a different line from the Kubricks. It could probably go with this one:

Gee I hope that it's also going to be available in large numbers at Parco. If it's going to be small like the last 2 carded Kubricks released there, it's going to be damn expensive.

Hopefully it'll replace the carded Kubricks, so I don't have to worry about getting even further behind on those damned things!  ;)

Cool looking Vader though, which would make a nice companion piece to the earlier "deformed" Fett that they issued.  An impressive Removable Helmet touch by Medicom, though not surprising since they're always up to cool tricks like that.  What's that Fett going for these days, anyways?  Was that limited as well, or more of a general release?  I can't recall anymore...

Here is my picture of the Medicom Fett that I published on the Kubrick thread.

That ought to give you an idea of how tall it is. All of those Bounty X Hunter VCD figures are the same. About 8" or so.

What is it that collectors don't like about these toys?   ??? I think that the Bounty Hunter figures are just as, if not more interesting than anything that Medicom or any other lines for that matter. For me it's the size, the detail, the funky design... Each to their own though. I reckon it's just me at the end of the day, I guess. I mean, relatively speaking, they are not even that popular in Japan compared to alot of the other lines.

I like them, but it's not the direction I like to fling my cash is about all.  It's just a  matter of choosing something to not collect is really more than not liking them.  I'd love to have them, but there are MR pieces I need yet, tons of Gentle Giant coming, Kubrick's (two series' plus catch-ups), all the regular Hasbro stuff and a vinyl cape Jawa haunting me before considering these.

My Vader mini-focus is just begging to have him added.

Medicom's other update today (besides Series 5 of the Kubricks) is the release of the Vinyl Stormtrooper.

Limited to 2005 pieces, he will be released at the 21st World Character Convention in Toyko on December 4th.

It sounds like only the first 500 will be released then, and the other 1505 will be available online from Medicom (http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp).

Did anyone else get the Fett's or Vader from this line? I absolutely love the Vader. I would go so far as to say that this line is my favorite from Medicom. They are kooky in a classic Japanese way, yet artistic and you get a real bang for your buck because they are quite chunky and super high quality as you would expect from Medicom.

I sooooo want to order them, but... :-\

Getting both Vader AND Stormtrooper together and still paying less than the average eBay price for one of them is just a fantastic deal, but after giving it some thought tonight, I think I'm going to pass.

This summer's "additions" are already starting to sway the way I think about my collecting.  I know that if I grab these two, it will invariably suck me in to tracking down Fett and then shelling out for more as they come out.  They are damn cool, but I guess I've just got to stay strong and let the Kubricks stuff satiate my Medicom desires.    :(

I`m with you. As much as I want these guys, I have to pass. Just can`t have
it all I guess, and the $120 will go into series 6 when it comes out.
Damn good prices though. If they had been 40-45, I`m sure i would have
bit on them....

According to Sideshow's "Behind the Show" blog (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?p=755), there will be "minor paint differences" between the figures they are importing and the ones originally released in Japan.  Since they are "minor", I don't imagine it will make much difference to most people.

I would imagine the packaging will have some differences as well, including a Sideshow logo of some kind and removal of the Japanese writing (which I assume the orginals had).

Hey fellas,

Alter Ego Comics has both the Vader and Stormie up for pre-order for $51.00 each  - I saved a total of $14.05 by pre-ordering through them.  Alter Ego Comics does ship to Canada.

Vader (https://secure210.finestshops.net/~alterego/store/customer/product.php?productid=2928&cat=111&page=1)

Stormie (https://secure210.finestshops.net/~alterego/store/customer/product.php?productid=2929&cat=111&page=4)

Looking forward to these...

Again Jesse, hook up with one of the folks in the states: shipping is dramatically reduced; it can be sent up here USPS fairly cheaply and with a lower declared value.  No FedEx/UPS nonsense pricing, no brokerage/customs fees.  It's way too sensible.

I didn't cancel my order and I did get my shipping notice.  As mentioned before, I'll stick with OT on these and did order the Tie Pilot.  Nice oddball conversation pieces I think.

I will admit this might be one of those lines that doesn't do so well though and secondary pricing might be lower.

I wonder how far they'll go with this line. That's 7 so far. I wouldn't be surprised we see a Scout Trooper one soon and then perhaps a Snowtrooper to tie in with a Hoth theme Kubrick Series 8. H8Graphix do heaps of other wicked figures so perhaps they'll have a crack at humaniod and alien characters too.

I really like the 'deformed' style they were using before since it gave the figures a very unique look.  Not that this Yoda looks bad, but I hope it's not the end of the deformed style.

I cancelled the 2 Stormtroopers a week ago and am considering cancelling the Vader too.

I just couldn't cancel my Vader and I'm so glad I kept the order.  This is one of the greatest pieces I have!  I was impressed to see the arms articulated at the shoulders, elbows and wrists, but even better is the wire in the lining of his cape which allows you to pose it any way you like.

Not digging the Yoda.  It's nice and all, but doesn't fit the deformed theme at all.  Pass.
Title: Re: Medicom Vinyl Figures
Post by: Jeff on August 28, 2006, 10:44 AM
I've heard/read a few theories that this Yoda was designed to go with the RAH figures and that is why he isn't in the deformed style like the others.  Something along the lines of it was too difficult to do a true RAH figure for someone as small as Yoda, so they made up this vinyl Yoda to take the place.

Based on the sizes listed for the figure, the theory works for me.  Scale-wise, he is too tall to fit with the other Vinyl figures, but he seems to be a pretty good scale match to the RAH Jedi Luke, so maybe ther is something to that rumor/theory...

Anyone else think they will do an AT AT driver next and just repaint the tie mold?

Anyone else think they will do an AT AT driver next and just repaint the tie mold?

I hope they can do better than just a repaint, but I would like to see one done. Along with a snowtrooper and bikerscout. And Death Star gunner and bossk. And 4-LOM and IG-88 and Zuckuss and even "low budget costume" Dengar.

Post by: konakazi on August 28, 2006, 07:02 PM
But what real differences are there between the AT AT driver and TIE pilot other than paint apps? To me it looks like their helmets and chest packs are pretty much identical.

I'm all for more SD troops though! I'd be very curious how Bossk would come out too, as he's my fave bounty hunter from the second string  ;D

Post by: Dan on August 29, 2006, 11:35 AM
There probably isn't much of a difference, it's just my wanting more than a repaint for $60.00 is all.

What would a superdeformed AT-AT look like?  ;D

Oh wait, we have that from Hasbro already....  ;)

I can't wait for the Pilot & Fett. I had to pass on the stormie,Vader & 501st because I didn't order them.
I'd like to see a deformed 3PO.

The vader really is fantastic-  I don't know what the secondary market is going to do on these, but if you can get one at cost (around 65-70.00) I would highly recomend it.  Everything about him is crisp- the detail is good, the finish is excellent (shiny where it should be shiny, flat where it should be flat).  He is currently front and center on the shelf above my desk, with his stormtrooper and 501st flanking him.

Deformed Threepio would be good but I hope they continue with the Imps for a while first!

I found the vader for about $62 shipped. I think that is as best as I am gonna get right ?

I already pre-ordered the Fett.

Unless I can get a rock-bottom deal for the stormies that allow me to get two, I won't go there. But you can't pass on Fett, and vader looks too cool.

I am hoping for a darth Maul ! ! !

You can't really see it very well in our Royal Guard pic (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Conventions/Toy_Fair_2007/Sideshow_Collectibles&image=TF_2007_Sideshow_0041.jpg&img=&tt=), but you can see it in this one (http://photos2.figures.com/gallery2/data/701/IMG_2128.JPG).

I believe it is in the deformed style, but it is a little hard to tell with the cloak/robe.

I think the hand gives it away pretty well, thanks.  I looked at the first picture late last night and assumed it was just a regular part of the 12" line or a RAH they were distributing.  It'll be interesting because the cloak does hide so much, but as long as it's similar to the other OT releases, I'll buy it.

Following Jeff's report on the front page, there'll be a black hole stormtrooper version at SDCC this year. (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=comiccon07_exclusives)  I think I'll probably lay claim to this one after passing (so far) on the Royal Guard.  I seem to be heading to a shadow stormtrooper/BHS focus display since I think I have most of the pieces released to this point.

There were 3 new VCD figures at the Medicom Show at Parco. There was a deformed VCD Shadow Guard which is a black version of the Royal Guard. Also there was an awesome looking deformed C-3PO and was painted in a metallic gold. Finally there was non-deformed VCD Wicket. I think I'll be giving the last one a miss.

According to the Sideshow SDCC 2007 (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=comiccon07_products#) page, they will be offering a new C-3PO VCD figure and a new Wicket VCD figure.

(http://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_assets/thumb/4357.gif) (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_assets/thumb/4360.gif)

Hard to tell from the tiny pics, but it appears 3PO is in the "deformed" VSD style, while Wicket is in the "regular" VCD format (like Yoda was).  Should get some nicer pics this week, both figures go up for pre-order on Friday, July 27th.

www.casefresh.com has the medicom vinyl Yoda for $55 aus, for you guys, they would have to take off the %10 GST too so it would only be $49.50aus + would be about $45 US plus shipping
They also have the real action hero Sandtrooper and clone trooper on sale for $120 aus less GST and convert be about $100 plus shipping
Just thought I'd put it out there.
Picked up a sandtrooper, too good a deal to pass up on.

I'm not saying they're bad per se, but if I'm going to be collecting a line of figures, I want them to be visually consistent. I'm actually hoping that these are meant to be a different line somehow. The "VCD" name already applies to two different kinds of figures -- the realistic ones like Wicket and Yoda, and the super deformed ones. Maybe this is a third "bobblehead" line or something.

Is it just me or does that Darth Maul look like Elmer Fudd?

It's definitely not just you.  I just came in to pose the same question and yours was already there.

I also just noticed that these are considerably smaller than the existing VCDs -- compare their height to the Kubricks in this picture:

And then the height of the current VCD vader with a kubrick:

This picture seems to show a super deformed VCD Darth Maul that conforms with the current line.

I'm somewhat inclined to agree.  The VCD labeled Maul has very different hands.

I agree with icruise - whatever they are, they are not part of the VCD "Superdeformed" line.  Them being a third line in the VCD family is the best guess at this point.

But, they are part of the VCD family (if you look at the labels in front of them, you can see the "Vinyl Collectible Dolls" script logo above the SW logo). ;)

If you look closely at the name tags in the "bobblehead" picture, it looks like it might say something like "Bobblehead Darth Maul" or "Bobblehead Darth Vader" -- there's a word in front of the name that probably denotes what the new series will be called.

I so want the Jawa VCD! My Wicket shipped out yesterday.

And i asked this a while ago but never really got an answer. Was the Yoda VCD in scale with the 12 inch Sideshow figures?

Here is a better angle that you can see the Darth Maul VCD.  It looks like they are making R2-D2 and another Yoda too.

Yoda is in scale with 12" figures (more or less). Wicket appears to be slightly smaller than he should be.

Are you talking about the new Yoda? Because I just answered that question a couple of posts above yours. (The new Yoda is deformed.)

The R2D2 is also deformed, as near as I can tell. Kind of squat.

That's part of why I strayed from this line.  A couple weren't really a good fit with the deformed approach.  Not like I'm lacking for normal versions of characters.

Yeah, $70.00 for a R2-D2 shipped?  I haven't paid over $50.00 shipped for any of mine other then Darth Vader.  I forked just under $100.00 for him shipped.

For all those who remember the discussion from June...  the correct answer was Mini VCD.  ;)

Darth Vader (http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp/WI/0032.cgi?recno=3602) and Darth Maul (http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp/WI/0032.cgi?recno=3603) and Jango Fett (http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp/WI/0032.cgi?recno=3604)

I received my Yoda (http://tinyurl.com/yl9ulzg) today and despite SSC's website (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=900148&utm_source=search0109) saying that this weighs 23lbs, I'd be shocked if it broke 1lb.  :-\

Thanks Jesse, it is a pretty cool piece and looks great in my focus collection. I am a little let down by the "heft" of it though. $70 is a bit high for what you actually get, $40-$50 would have been better considering.

Hey, JesseVader08, is this one too spendy for the Vader focus?

Darth Vader (Swarovski Crystal Model) (http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp/list/10601.html) - just 185185 Yen (~ $1545 US) and Due in December.

Great job, Medicom!  Nothing says "Let's celebrate The Force Awakens" like bedazzled Darth Vader.   ::)
