Title: Black Friday Purchases!
Post by: CHEWIE on November 25, 2005, 06:50 AM
Gang, I am tying this after just warming my car up.  Heading to Target in about 5 minutes to get hopefully a new, better digital camera for my photonoves/custom pics and maybe find some newer figures like some more of the Heavy Gunner Wookiees.

Next stop - Kmart to see if their Buy 1 Get 1 Free figure sale is any good.

After that, going to come back and crash for a bit while I still digest yesterdays' turkey.

Then drive 100 miles south with my wife to see the 88 year old grandparents for the holiday, and hit up all the local Walmarts and a Target, Kmart and TRU.

Everyone going out today, good luck and be safe!

I stopped at work for a few hours but before I did hit 3 Targets, a TRU and a K-mart.  Got obsolutely nothing.  Neither Target had put out any new figures.  I'll go to WM on my way home.

Got a few SA Clones buy one get one free at Kmart.

And a new digital camera... THAT SUCKS!  The Kodak "Easy Share - MY ASS" one on the front page of the Target ad is the biggest piece of junk camera I've ever owned.  Took ok pics, but can't transfer them.  I spent over three damn hours this morning having to reinstall the software over and over, only to eventually find in the toolbars of the software for it to say "digital camera does not support image transfer" - what the hell?  It didn't come with a memory card, but it says in the manual that it doesn't need one, that it is able to store 12MB of memory.  So, it should therefore let me download the 10 pics I took and see if I like how the camera works.  But, hell no.  I wasted my whole morning and now my computer is running slower than hell.

Moral of the story is, I don't usually shop at Target for things like this, and I remember why now.  This sucker is going back to Target tonight, and I'm not going into one of their stores again for a while.  The guy who sold it to me even said it didn't need a memory card.  But I get the feeling, that even if I did get one for it, the pics still wouldn't transfer.  Piece of crap!

Picked up a few more #41 at Kmart for the buy one get one free deal. Decided to hit Target just after this and ended up finding 3 Tactical Ops Troopers. They also had about 6 Shadow Troopers hanging on the pegs with the lava figures. Left them all...

Here in Utah, my wife decided she wanted to go and hit some stores (not Walmart or Target). So at 4:30 we left and at 4:50am I was turning into the exit (2 lane exit) to get to the Kohls that she wanted to go to. Suddenly, there was an obstacle in the road that I had no choice but to run over it. I did and it blew both tires on the drivers side. Right after this the next 5 cars pulled in behind us with similiar damage. Call the UHP, and one showed up sayign someone had dropped a hydralic jack in the exit lanes that cause the blow outs. So after a tow to Sam's and finding out we have 1 totally ruined rim and the other has to be replaced, we got new tires put on and then went to another dealership to order the two rims. They go on in the am along with the new alignment! Man, I'm grateful that we are all alright, but what a crapy morning! That "road hazard" will cost us about $400 out of pocket (don't think insurance will cover the tires) and $200 for the rims and the alignment (which insurance should cover).
For finds. My wife got the Cephony(?) cookware that we had been watching at Williams and Sonoma (cost $479) for $299 on sale.  Then she got a beautiful blender for $225 so she is set for Christmas!
We got my kids a Ninetendo DS for each and a travel kit, then some games.  For my son I bought a Republic Gunship, a White Clone Evolutions 3 pack and the Ultimate build your own lightsaber. My daughter got $90 in gift certificates, $100 worth of clothes, a Mace Windu lightsaber, some stuff for her nails (she is 12 almost 13) . . . and some other stuff.
I got nothing! I looked for the twins but they have not it here in Utah. Overall from a collector's view, none of the main stores, Walmart, Target or TRU had new figures out at all! Hope the Twins show up tonight!

Wow. That must of been a busy day.

For my Black Friday, I intended to just go up to KMart to use that BOGO sale, but I wasn't going to get up at 4 am to do it. So I slept in, got the paper, looked at KMart's ad, I realized I had an hour to get up there. So I took a shower, drove up there, and found nothing except a Clone Commander and a Padme, which I bought for my sister. Then went to TRU, the line was going to the back of the store, left, went to Hobbytown and got new paint and brushes for customizing and presents for my sisters, then went to WalMart, picked up 2 SA clones and presents for my sisters. No sign of the Twins. Then, went to Target, found no Shadow Troopers but did find 3 Gray Clone evo, and then had lunch, and went to Media Play to find Series 5 Halo figures and Harry Potter "Scene It?" for my sister. I'm finally home now. But in a couple of minutes I'm going to play Laser Tag with my aunt and family. See ya.

So, this is what I bought for myself:
Clone Commander
2 SA clones
(first three for customizing purposes)
Gray Clone Evo
Paints and brushes
Series 5 Halo action figures

Nice haul, if I say so myself. :)

Being on the other side of the city from Darth Nirvana, I think I had a little better luck surprisingly with the K-Mart BOGO thing...

I went around 9, and there's 2 KM's within 15 minutes of my house, so I hit the closest one first and it was a disaster area.  The pegs looked like a tornadoe had hit because figures were lying all about.  They had remnants that implied new **** was there, such as Neimoidian Commanders I shoulda stocked up on for army building but I digress.  There was a Gree too I think, but I left this store with nothing and thinking I wasn't going to find much today.

I went to K-Mart down near my Girlfriend's place and low and behold I saw an R4 out in front, and this gave me hope.  Upon inspection this toy aisle was a little better but not much and again SW figures were everywhere so I wasn't the first to rifle these pegs.  Right away though I spot him, a lone 501st Trooper...  Then Holo Aylya and 2 holo Plo Koons.  They had Wookiee Commando's and bly's, and green Commanders as well.  I got my gf's son a bly and green Commander.  I got myself one of each of them as well to bolster the ranks some.  I got the 3PO and an extra R4, and of course I got the Tact. Ops Trooper and Holo figures because THAT got me caught up on toys, yay!

I hit a Wal-Mart and Target then as well that are about 25 minutes away or so but found nada...  Wal-Mart was the same old wall of Vader.  He's definitely overtaken Neimoidians as the pegwarmer of the year IMO because I really don't see much more than 10 Neimoidians anywhere I go but I literally see dozens (as in 36+) of Vader at most every Wal-Mart.  Pathetic.

Target was a mess, the worst store to visit today.  Packed with people, and the SW aisle had some woman who'd blocked off the SW figures with her cart, I think intentionally, while she looked through everything.  When I tried to move in to look she literally pushed the cart forward looking at me like "uh uh".  I guess incase there was stuff she wanted she wasn't going to let me get it?  I dunno.  I laughed at her because I could tell just by eyeballing the pegs they were picked clean of anything and I wandered off to find a X-Mas light tester while I was there.

I'm a lil bummed I didn't find the Wookiee HEavy Gunner in good supply because I want to army build him.  I'd have liked a 2nd Tact. Ops Trooper but 1 suits me fine.  I'm glad I'm caught up.

Now I only need a Lava Anakin and army build grey Evolutions Clone sets. :)

Sounds like you had a decent haul Jesse, and same for you Darth Nirvana, that's good to see.  But Black Dog, your day sucked.  Much worse than my camera aggravation; glad you and the wife are OK though!

Before going out of town I went back to Target and returned the camera.  Then we took a 2 hour drive south to visit my grandparents.  After lunch with them I dragged my wife to two Walmarts, TRU, Kmart and skipped on Target because I'm being a big baby about the camera.    :D

Bunch of the same pegwarmers that are up here in St. Louis.  But Kmart was 100% sold out of figures.

Then I got home and decided the camera thing was still on my mind, so I went up to Walmart and looked at them.  I couldn't decide what to do, so I came home only with dog food.

I slept in.  There weren't any major bargains that interested me, and the idea of waking up at 2 a.m. to stand in line until 6 a.m. to fight with a bunch of soccer moms to save six bucks on a dvd or 12 bucks on a video game didn't seem too appealing for some reason.

I did manage to pick up Shark Tale for $2.88 and Medal of Honor European Assault for Xbox for $18.88 when I went grocery shopping at Target this evening.

If we had a K-Mart within 100 miles of here, I might have had some reason to check it out.

So for the BOGO at K-Mart was this just for Friday only? And was this one of those things were the individual price is $7.99, so really you're only saving a buck or so per figure? Or was this really a better deal than I'm giving it credit for?

Figures at KM are $6.99 (been that way since they broke the 4/2 date and put stuff out before other retailers).  The figures came to $7 for 2 which isn't a bad deal, especially since a LOT (and I mean like 90% from what I understand) of the KM's around PA were seemingly stocking up with the latest Collection 2 figures.

My nearest which is the only store besides grocery stores within about 15 square miles, had Neimoidians, Gree...  They were definitely stocked with new stuff at one point or another. T he one near my girlfriend's place I did score Collection 2 figures so there were deals to be found.  I mean, a Tact. Ops for less than retail suits me just fine since I couldn't find one for full retail and I'm sure next weekend at the Toy Show I'll find out WHY I can't find one for full retail.  ;D

Every time that show rolls around I get to look at all the dip****'s tables with $25 - $30 modern figures.  I'm sure I'll see where all the Evolutions, Shocktroopers, "Final Five", and stuff are at.

I need to still find my extras, but the KM sale was pretty good I thought.  It was the only reason I really got my ass outta bed today actually.  I was surprised TRU, WM, and Target didn't at least try to do something similar...  WM really needs to do some pegwarmer clearing though.  If they had a sale any excess army builders would easily fly off the shelves, and crap like Vader may actually disappear.  Right now though nobody's getting much of anything in it seems because they're all just backed up with pegwarmers.  TRU is about the only store with any sort of diversity in its figure selection but they don't have anything new/interesting.

Ok $3.50 per fig isn't a bad deal at all. Any idea if the sale lasts thru the weekend?

I think it ended like around noon but I'm not sure.  It wasn't an all-day thing I don't think...  At least I've heard people went "too late" for it anyway.  I'm thinking I should've bought those Neimoidian Commanders now but I'll live without them.

If TRU would do this same sale they'd clear those pegs right quickly.

Just checked on Kmart.com, it was only a 5 hour sale...

http://akimages.crossmediaservices.com/dyn_rppi/500.0.90.0/kmart/large/051125_W_04_r3_p0ric.jpg

Oh well, woulda been nice to build up some extras...

Yeah, it was just a 5 hour sale.  I screwed up and got there at 7am instead of 6am.  My wife read that ad wrong, so I got there an hour late.  There were remnants of the 501st wave, but oh well.  If I had gotten there sooner I probably would have scored some more Wookiees.

TRU definitely needs to get things rolling with some markdowns on their SW stuff.

I got the Clone Wars Volume 4 comic from Barnes and Noble, some Carvel Ice Cream, and a Starbucks White Chocalate mocha during the day.
