Has anyone ever seen a super articulated IG-88 droid made? Just curious since the only ones I've ever seen are hasbro's neutral posed versions. It would be really sweet to see him in a firing pose!

How does this belong in Customs?

ok, you just inspired me to make one. Here is my idea....
cut the elbow joints and drill holes in where the cuts were made. I have the perfect drill bit for making such tiny holes. Then dab some crazy glue and pressure fit some of the tiny wires (dipped in a plastic coating) that are included in many star wars packages, into the holes. Same could be done for the knees. I am expecting a free digital camera this week from a buddy (Score) so I will make this in the mean time and post some pics.

how does it not belong in customs? He was asking if anyone had seen a ig88 that is super articulated!

I think this would be better in the TSC forum...

I meant has anyone ever seen an IG-88 CUSTOMIZED to be SA. Not one you'd find for sale.
-
I think this is why one has never been done is because the limbs are so thin. You would almost have to have bigger joints at the pivot points to achieve this. Hey stormtripper, if you do this best of luck to you but it sounds like a GREAT idea! I hope you could pull it off! :)

I think this DOES belong in customs... it was directed as a customizing question.
No, I don't think I've seen one made before that is SA... I wonder if using Microman type parts if it could be done?
:)

I was actually thinking about that the other day...the problem is the detail of his robotic body. The chest, as it is rounded for Microman, could pose a problem.
But nothing RickyUK or Owen couldn't handle I'm sure. ;)

I don't think a Microman figure would work as a base for IG-88. As Rolla metioned, IG-88's limbs are very thin and while Microman figures do tend to have thinner limbs than Hasbro figures, they would still be about 2x too bulky to work on IG-88. Even Microlady arms would be too bulky.
The only articulated limbs that might work would be the Army of Darkness Deadite Skeleton Legs (double knee joints) with lots of putty. That would require an insane amount of work and probably would not look very good.
I like stormtripper's idea, I think that will be the most feasible way of accomplishing this.

I don't know if this helps with customizing at all, but it strikes me that good ol' POTJ FX-7 has some pretty thin limbs with pivots in the middle.
If you were to use microman parts, perhaps you could use a dremel or something to drill them down to a skinnier size? *shrugs*
Not much advice to offer in this area I guess, I don't even own an IG-88 (yet)... I think the OTC/POTJ bounty hunter pack thingy version is the best and most articulated Hasbro has made, right? I think he has a two-part turning head, IIRC.

Heck, I really don't know as I haven't used any Microman parts on customs before, just an idea. I thought maybe the joints could be used at least, like for the knees or elbows... probably wouldn't work I guess.
I bet Owen could pull it off somehow, but I don't think it would be too sturdy... I almost think one might be better off just making the arms in a permanent bent position to hold a rifle.

What about reworking the joints with a stikfas style ball joint? (Similar to Gregorbian's work on GG bodyguard.) You'd probably need to butcher at least 2 IG-88's to get it right (assuming you're not going to try casting).
-
That's what I meant, Stikfas - thanks for correcting me. :)

his custom of the magnaguard is kinda what prompted this, since they are early IG droid versions.

Wow, I can't believe I forgot about Stikfas joints ::). I am a moron. I just finished stikfas-jointing a Snow Trooper (replaced all of his joints with stikfas ball-joints to see what it would look like). In doing that I had to dremel down each Stikfas "male" ball-peg so that it was just the ball and a stick (it looked like a small lollipop, if that makes sense) and then I had to dremel down the female ball-socket. You would probably have to do the same thing for an IG-88 figure. Aside from the time-consuming nature of that project, I still think the stikfas joints would be a tad too large. You might have to beef up the arms a bit more and make him an IG-90 or something ;)
-
Another idea would be to work some bendem type points for joints. I'm working on a custom that I'm working on doing that for the arms and legs. Making them really flexible and adding the wire to give them the hold. They only work with thin limbs. I think it would look good and work well on his arms, but I have no solution for the legs. All you would need to do is cast little boot that covers the elbow and add the wire in the middle which would connect the arm together too. The legs I don't even see any were to put a joint, is there any pictures that show his leg articulation?

Does anyone know if hardware stores, such as lowes maybe, would carry some kind of small screw, pin, connector that may be very similar to a stikfa joint, or just something that would be used for articulation?

Heres a MagnaDroid I did a little while back for my son. I used the stikfa parts, and it came out pretty good. the knees dont match up quite like the original, but my son was happy. ;D
Hope this helps

Stickfas Joint? Can some one show me a pic of this?
