I can't post them here, there is nothing in the additional options to allow me to post them, unless someone wants to host them for me?

thanks for hosting them dsj

Ok first one is a pod pilot/ clone pilot mix
I used a pod pilot as the base figure, painted the clone evolutions helmet orange over the yellow and painted the gloves and boots grey, I then dry brushed it black so it would look beat to hell.

The second one was a #41 desert camo repaint,  I had to pait the base beige then added 2 tones of brown, white and black to give it the camo finish.

The 3rd was a cheezy wookiee in dark trooper armour, its simply a preview head that I used to make my own version of Snoova, I am planning on replacing the dark trooper bucket.

The 2 astromech droids are made from the desert deluxe r2 that I found a collectables store and paid a whopping $1 for. They have the beeps and whisles still and were my first droid repaints.

the sith lord is the catina guys head swapped with the cw sasee tinns head. I really like the combionation of the body with this head as my version of a sith lord.

the next one is a sote luke in imperial discise that I wanted to capture a republic commando look to, again another of my favorite POTF2 figs that has some great customizing possibilities.

The UGH minis are for my son, he say that I had one that I used as trade bait and really wanted the chrome finish mini that was inside. I promised that I would lmake him one and one turns into many as you all know.

The 5o1 are #41 repaints, I am not a big fan of Hasbro's version and have only ever seen 1 at retail. I am happy with them and decided like many to leave off the leg stripes..

Anyone else hate the finish on the EU spacetrooper? I am not a big fan of the pearl white finish and I started to experiment with black and a chrome, chainmail, gunbarrel type finish. I like the technique I used so much that I have painted many figures in the manner and like the way it captures the detail on the figures.

The wokkiee jedi is another figure that I made for my son, I used the playschool lukes poncho and the preview wookiee with the transformer luke x-wings saber. He loves it, so I thought that I would pimp it for him..

I hope that you guys enjoy these and I will be making more and have many more already completed or in the final stages.

The pics are a little dark, but everything looks really good.  I'll mention my favorites -

Devorian Sith - Excellent idea, and perfect since these guys already look like Demons.  I kind of thought that Darth Maul should have been a Devorian.

Obi Wan - This custom kit bash is always one of my favorite to see, the parts mesh so well!

Commando-esque Clone - Great parts here, what head is that?  Looks very well painted.

 :)

hey thanks for the comments, I will get some better/ brighter pictures...

Chewie
quote:Commando-esque Clone - Great parts here, what head is that?  Looks very well painted.

I used the gunship pilot helmet that came with the evolution packs, I removed the hose and repainted it. The body is a standard #41... I made this because I was having such a hard time getting a scorch.

I love the Jedi w/ Anakin's charred head...very cool!

Thanks, I am actually thinking of converting this into a q-vos. I also want to change the boots, I used the obi pilot feet. I will get a better pic..

Yeah, the clone with the guard helmet rocks.... reminds me of a Mandalorian from KOTOR.  I like how you painted the shoulders to match the helmet color, and the gauntlets are a great touch.

that crispy Anakin is on fire  ;D really dig it.  though you should probably give him at least either the Vader or Anakin saber.  what guns is the clone ARC comm. sporting? I like the clone/guard but somethings missing maybe he needs like a half cape like Boussh or Snoova has or a kama, he does look cool though.  Darth Wolvie good choice i likey  :D

I think the Arc commander has the pitsol from Kyle Katarn. I was going to use that pistol for my Arc Commander when I get the HFG bp. Looks much better sized than what has been made for Arc customs. Those costoms look good but too cartoonish for the non-animated figures. Plus with the Kyle blaster you can make the holsters for them without the over sized look ;).

here are a few pic's of my imperial gunship. My wife actually helped me paint the base black, so I will give her 10% credit for her part (she was busy with other things) I wanted to have a sorta war torn at-at /at-st type finish to it and think I sorta achieved that. Let me know what you guys think!

Love the gunship.  It looks great.  The weathering styled paint scheme is very good.  The shadow troopers look right at home on that thing but I have a hard time envisioning Vader riding in one.
Title: Re: stormtrippers customs (updated June 5th with imperial gunship)
Post by: jedipurge on June 5, 2006, 12:08 PM
great paintjob on the gunship, the crew looks really good.  just weather the Imperial insignia a little and it'd look better.  i like the Vader in there.
Title: Re: stormtrippers customs (updated June 5th with imperial gunship)
Post by: Gregorbian on June 5, 2006, 10:26 PM
I agree about weathering the imperial insignia, but other than that I think you've got a great ship here.  I would add some "blast marks" to the sides though.  You can do a splotch (for lack of a better word) of black paint and then do a smaller splotch of silver paint to make it look like the paint was blasted off.

I didn't really like the Shadow Troopers very much, but now that I see them in that pic, they look pretty badass.  Great job!

Here is my WIP dagobah training luke, apparently he was a little freaked out the first time in the cave, "only what you take with you" so this time he was a little better prepared.

This is still a work in progress (my sense of humor will be removed), but it will have a better head sculpt, the arms are going to be repainted with a flesh tone, the little glove do-dads are going to be lobed off as well. The ball and sockets went in with a little elbow grease and the boil and pop method. The batman figure came with 5 or six different pairs of hands so I plan to do a couple pair. I will try and get more pics as I am completeing the stages.

Post by: Dressel Rebel on June 16, 2006, 09:11 AM
Nice idea.  I don't think that using the Tarfful torso is worth that extra 1/2" of height that you're getting there, he's a little too tall and skinny.  That extra piece of torso between the bottom of the waist belt, but above the hips, is kinda throwing this figure off.

I recommend putting the Tarfful head on the Preview Wookiee body and then either painting or sculpting on the armor.
Title: Re: stormtrippers customs (updated June 16th with Tarful pg 3,)
Post by: CHEWIE on June 16, 2006, 10:38 AM
Hmmm....  I really like how you assembled Tarful myself.  I'd just go with a complete repaint however, as the head/torso seems to be a totally different color scheme than the rest of the body fur.

How hard was it to swap out the arm sockets?

 :)

here is the tarful, all painted nice like:

with his little buddy gree (notice the holster?)

Chewie
the arms are easily removed (boil/pop), they are both plugged into the body sockets. The preview wookiee's plug was a little smaller then tarfuls so I use a technique with crazy glue to make the joint tight. I apply glue inside the body socket and continue to mave the arm slowly so that glue will not set to the peg but will still form around it.
( I have used thes technique for years on different customs and have never had the parts fuze together, as long as you are continuously moving them)

The paint job was from a previous snoova custom I made last year..

dressel rebel

I wanted to use the tarful torso as I am not much of a sculptor. I wanted to have tarful extra tall and the way it is, was much easier then shorting it (you have to see the mess that tarfuls torso has inside for its action features)

Wow! I recently received some ROTS Wookiee Warriors and Yarua and thought they were big fellas. But Tarful.... holy $#&*! He's terrifyingly terrific!!

You might as well paint Gree, while you're at it. Doesn't matter what colour, any scheme is better than what Hasbro did with him.

You should have Tarful manhandle a Magnaguard and post a pic, just like in the Repbluc Commando game  ;D

Though he seems a bit too tall, I really like him that way.  The first time I saw him was in the Republic Commando game, and he was HUGE, just like yours.  I think I have a reason to buy a Tarfful now.

Post by: stormtripper on June 18, 2006, 01:01 PM
Thanks for your comments guys, nice to get both critisisms and positive feedback! I think that the height is a smidge too tall as well but if I tried to make him a bit shorter I could have messed up the entire custom.

Parts used were only a preview wookiee and a tarful... The head and torso are tarfuls, the rest is the preview wookiee. Tarfuls insides (guts) are a mess and have to be removed, I used a drill, dremel and pliers to get it all out.

I live on the coast and might use some shells from the beach to add some more armour to my tarful, (shells have good texture for figure armour)

1000 Time better than Habro's.
I really like the height, he's like the shack of Wookies. The paint aps came out very nice. Excellent job. The Recipe seem pretty simple, I may have to give this one a try to mix up my Wookie Ranks. Now if I could just find some extra Wookies.

Keep up the great work.

Hey Darth Ennis, I know what you mean about hating the hasbro version of Tarful, I think that it is one of my favorite customs I have made.

Chewie
The gun strap was from a dollar-store figure I bought years ago, I just used a couple of rubber "o-rings" to make the straps. They are the rubber bands that connect old GI-Joes together, or used on valve seals.. I crazy glued the holster to the leg... I might paint the jacket btw, I have not yet decided.

The devaronian and rebel troopers are a nice mix of parts.  I like the lobot head with the helmet.  <--that sounds bad, but I digress.   A good wash with a lighter shade of gray would bring out a lot of their uniform details.

The biker scout pilot guy looks weird to me for some reason.  Maybe it's just the pudgy body sculpt and Napoleon Dynamite moonboots, but that's hardly your fault.  I think it's also weird to see that head on anything other than the biker scout body.  It'll probably fetch 40 bucks on ebay, so my snooty critique won't matter much!   :P

Here is my latest, as part of the Jango Fett group project. This is one that I have been wanting to make for a long time now. I used the VOTC fett, torso to the crotch, I cut off the neck stud and dremeled it concave to fit a Kamino Jango head with the neck also slashed off. I Crazy glued the head in place, so it doesn't have a swivel neck. I pulled out the boba fett legs using the boil and pop method. The pegs broke off in the crotch/butt thingy so I used needle nose pliers to split the crotch. I didnt have to remove the torso, and just slipped the jango pilot legs in place and crazy glued the seem again (note, when doing this just continuously move the legs until the glue takes hold, this will prevent the legs from fusing as well as tighten the articulation).
I will update with painted pics when I am complete. Cheers

Lookin pretty good so far. But articulated knees on this would look killer. The Hoth Vader has knee joints that pop out both above and below the knee. Cut the jangos knees and dremmel out a hole to put the vader knee joints in and I think youd really have something cool with that.

The head choice is very good too. Which one is that?

One of the best Jangos I have ever seen, period end of story. Great job the paint apps are nice and smooth, and the parts choices are great.

Damn you work quick! Ignore my earlier statements. I think this is perfect just the way it is. The colors really make him stand out. They seem a little brighter than the actual jango, but this is not a bad thing at all.

I'm hoping mine looks this good. Great job.

Thanks, it was way more tough that I was antisipating it to be. The colour looks a lot brighter in the pictures then in actuality. I had to mix 3 paints to get the jango custume just right. The gloves are a little day-glow I agree...

Thanks, it definately turned out better then I had expected! It was a no brainer for parts, it hurts the collection but definately the correct parts were used.

Very nice.  The brighter blue i wasnt sure about at first, but I think it really adds something more to the figure, and the combination of parts really spruces him up.

Makes me want to add a better Jango to my Mando collection:)

I started these last night and still need to work on the guns and back packs but thought that I would show you guys where I am @ with these commando's. These are tough guys to get good solid refrences from, I think that a lot of my paint applicantions are similar but might not be dead on:

Very cool so far. I think the packs and weapons will really make these complete.
Look at sith_fire30's statue that he panted for Aeseven7.
That is what i looked at when i painted mine.

He had shots of the fronts, backs, sides, top...almost every angle.

Being colorblind, I can't really comment on the color schemes being accurate.  However, as overall customs I think they look great.  I think the weathering turned out really good.  I wonder if there would be a way to customize the weapons a bit to help give them more variety.  Those clone rifles look puny compared to the big Scorch blasters.  Also, you may want to add some weathering to the guns as they look too clean for such dirty troopers.

Hey nice stuff stormtripper.   Great designs by the way.  That Cloud Car pilot is a good choice for an imperial.  Looks fantastic.  I may have to try something like that in the future for a concept figure.
Also that Kyle Katarn / Jango style figure looks wicked cool.  I like the use of parts and its a great design as well.

I notice you adopted that red arm band for that one particular figure.  Bold and very cool looking.  I cannot tell from this angle but is there an imperial insignia on that band?

Great work.

Very cool and tough looking Dash, btw! I especially like the six-o'clock-shadow beard and the paint apps on his pants. Really curious what parts you used?

Parts are:
GI Joe head
OTC Luke torso and middle body part (it attches to the legs)
microman ball sockets as the shoulders
Wolverine arms with claws cut off
agen kolar legs and crotch
rots #6 clone shoulder pads
aotc cloce bikerscout chest armor (cut to shape)
VSTC Greedo belt and holster
kitchen sink  :P
Yeah man it was a lot of parts to put this together... The only thing that I would consider changing is painting the boots black and painting on some gloves. I am also planning on making him a new blaster..

Very nice stuff here man, is that dash rendar?

Yes it is my version of dash rendar, I always liked the character but hated the figure...

Post by: Phrubruh on September 16, 2007, 06:01 PM
That's quite a collection of work there. Some of it is better than others. What time period was this stuff done over? So much to comment on yet so little time to actually write something meaningful.  So I will pick just one that being the mandalorian with the batman microman legs.

I like the idea you are going for here. He's a SA mandal. The problem is the legs are far out of proportion from the body. They are just too long. I'd suggest using legs from a microsister. They should be more portional to the punisher torso. Microsisters are basically a smaller scale microlady but with just as much actuation. They are also great if you are going to hollow out some armor to put over the legs. I think this will make it look less stork like and more armored.

I don't know if you saw my SA Scorch but there is a full microlady body under the armor. It's all covered with a latex balloon to act as a body glove. I think this would look really cool with you punisher torso and boba fett head.

I see alot of great stuff there. Keep it up!! :)

Thats a really old custom m_p, from almost a year ago. It has long been scrapped and recycled! I did happen to catch a look at your scorch and think that it is very well planned out. Very smart use of a dremel. I had not posted here in approx a year and was viewing my customs at yakface. I would like to branch out again and show some more customs and have then critiqued (as you have done)
Thanks for the comments.

If Tripper doesn't mind me stepping in, I know where the helmet's from.  It's a little-known fodder source, one I've used for years actually. ;)  The visor's movable if he didn't glue it down or onto a different head.  Very cool.  I actually use those figures "as-is" myself as they're already sci-fi figures.

I won't give away his surprise, just thought I'd tease a little.  They're great pieces.  Great customs too, as always stormtripper!

I like many of those alot!  For some reason, that last one of the Rodain with the trenchcoat jumped out at me.  It looks like it was very simple, yet it looks very Star Wars!  On the others, you use some really interesting and unique parts.  they all look good.

I did this one a few years ago.

Trip's not replied so I'll spill the beans.

A toy line called "Robotix" was out in the 80's.  Sort of Lego, sort of Erector sets, all based in robotic engineering concepts.  The toy went out of print and was bought by a company callled Learning Curve.  LC produced toys as well as instructional sets for classroom settings.  The sets had action figures in around the 3.75" scale, and that head is at least in part one of those figures.  They were all guys in space suits and things, wtih flip-up visors.  Fairly simple paint aps but detailed sculpting.  The figures are a hair short, but work ultimately, and make nice fodder (if not a little underarticulated).

They're a toy I've found very useful/cool for Star Wars diorama making and general fun.  The kids and I messed around with a set once and set up figures with it...  It's a good toy for kids in general, but for a SW nerd like me, it's a bonus toy because it blends in well with figures. ;)

the body armour is from packs of soldiers that I found at a sears liquidation.. They were super cheap and had some great accessorys. Seen here:

I will get a group shot of the customs I still own, I have sold some (on craigslist)and traded some with my buddy that owns a toy store.

The troop transport was a lot of fun to make, picked it up realitivly cheap and had full intentions of moding it. I like vehicle customs but they are pretty expensive so I will stick with speeders etc.

Siths Herald
Very similar, yeah I agree that they work very well together.

Tripper, those accessories are from POwer Team Elite (PTE) figures.  Big Lots brings them in around fall to sell, and if you think the little bits are cool, you gotta see the BIG bits. :)  Check out the "21st Century Toys" thread in our Other Toys section here if you wanna see some pics of the line.  I buy the sets at Big Lots uber cheap and usually sell the figures to a friend while keeping the gear (anything from crates, barrels, and boxes all the way up to watch towers, bridges, and buildings!).

Very cool custom fodder and ultimate diorama gear.

Here is a small update, I posted these at yakface as well..

First up is Klaw Ripz, a shistavanen hunter / tracker. He is often used by the rebels for his services and has no love for the empire. Klaw is a loner that studies martial arts, weapons training and loves romantic walks on the moonlit beach and can be counted on to slip behind an enemy line and quitely "take them out"

Next up is another wookiee, I have been slowly working my way through my wookiees to add something unique to each of them. I wanted the arms/forearms to be hairier, so I used another ROTS wookiees forearms, hands to achieve this. I had to cut and alter in a few places but I think it looks much better. I like the new mc-snowtrooper blaster and thought that it was a natural fit. The shouder pads are space lego face shields and they hold no prob.. I also added a claw arm band to his arm, was meant to be a necklace but with the hair shoots from his giant melon it didn't look good.

My addition to the yakface challenge.. I hate this guys legs, so I swapped them with good old pote snitkins and repainted him to get a rougher image.

More excellent work. How do you go about designing you figures? Are they dictated by convenience of pieces that fit together or do you make the pieces fit to your vision?

Wow, great question.
It really is a combination of both to be completely honest. I usually have a final product in mind, but getting the parts or sacrificing a perfectly good figure for fodder is a tough proposition. Most of my customs are fanfic, I like my customs to both have the ability to fill in as "background extras" but also retain a star wars look and feel to them. I wish that I had the ability to sculpt, mold etc but maybe it is for the best as I have to balance a family, work and other commitments. I am usually up customizing when I can't sleep and everyone else is fast asleep. My vision of star wars defers from the original trilogy (grew up during and it is the "real" "star wars" to me), and the prequels (ep1 was weak IMO, ep2 was weak IMO, ep 3 had its weak moments IMO but more or least made ep1 and ep2 tolerable.
I am not openly found of the boba fett / jango fett / clone / stormtrooper connection, although I recently read that Boba Fett was supposed to be some kind of super commando / stormtrooper so maybe I need to keep an open mind. Sorry to get so off topic there. Thanks for the compliment and allowing me to ramble.

Awesome customs.  I especially like the Wookkiee mercenaries.  I wish people would make more of the "regular" people, the working class; you know, smugglers, prostitutes, gamblers, janitors and the like.  It seems that this trend is on the rise, however.  Your Dash Rendar is probably the best version of him I have ever seen.  One question; how does he hold his pistol if both of his hands are balled up in fists?  And (okay, I lied about asking only ONE question) are you planning to make a custom "Outrider" for him to park in the middle of the living room floor for all your wife's friends to see?

You know it's funny that you mention my wifes friends and smugglers, prostitutes, gamblers in the same breath  :)

But on a serious note, thanks.. Yeah that dash pulled me back into customizing, I have always hated the SOTE version and thought that he needed an improvement.. I have no plans on making the outrider at this time, I never owned the Hasbro version, ranking it rather low on my priority list. I have not done this yet but what I would do is drill a small hole in Dash's Hand (right where he would grip the blaster) then shave down the pistols handle until it fit in his hand.

Another set of fantasic looking figures.

If I may be so bold, I'll bet you can add some do-dads to the end of the breathing tubes on the 4-LOM to act as filters.

Those are great! The first one is definately my favorite. I just went wow when I saw that one. That red hair reminds me of Heat Miser!
