Title: GI Joe: America's Elite
Post by: Reid on July 5, 2006, 10:01 PM
Does anybody here read this comic series? I picked up issue #12 earlier today and wow- what a great comic. One of the best comics I've read, probably just as good as SW Legacy.

Anybody read AE?

Loved the ending of #12 with Cobra Commander sitting at a desk in the White House.

Anybody read AE?

Thanks, now I don't need to read it myself.

I like how they've scaled back the roster to just a few operatives. That was a good idea.

I liked how they didn't start off with an immediate Cobra threat. There are other threats that might demand GI Joe's attention, and I was happy to see them pursue those while not seeing the relation between these events.

At least it's better than the Blaylock/Jerwa run, where they just killed Joes for the sake of killing Joes.

I still liked the Blaylock run. But I was in shock for months when Flash and Mainframe died. There should have been a law that stated " Thou shalt not killeth the original thirteen."

That was how I felt when they killed Lady Jaye.

it should be out in the next couple of weeks. Ive had 12 for a while now.

I feel your pain about Lady Jaye, I almost cried myself. I didn't actually think they'd do that.

Not exactly America's Elite, but I picked up the GI Joe: Master & Apprentice TPB at Borders.

A quick question for you America's Elite readers....I've been thinking about getting into this book, but haven't bought a GI Joe comic since I was a kid.  Is it a good "jumping in" point in the comics, or should I pick up the TPBs?  I noticed on Amazon there is Vol 1 and Vol 2 for sale, and was thinking about buying the first one to start from the beginning.  Would this be a good idea?  I was such a fan of the 80s toon/toy line, but just can't get into this newer "Sigma Six" stuff, and I kind of miss the old Joe days.  Is this more along those lines?  Thanks for any advice.

It is more "old school" than the Sigma 6 stuff, but bear in mind that the AE roster is decidedly smaller than it was back in the day. Most of the other characters are on "reserve" status, and don't have any part in that book. However, there is the Special Missions book that's published quarterly. A new one comes out in the next week or so, and the one before that had Beach Head and Cover Girl taking down a Cobra cel in Manhattan. The next one features Jinx in Japan, IIRC.

I'd start from the beginning, just to see how bad the Joes have it now, and to be hip to what Duke has been doing since he's listed as AWOL by Joe Colton.

Also, check out GI Joe Declassified. It's written by Larry Hama, and it details how Hawk brought the original team of 13 Joes together. It's bi-monthly, double-sized, and carries a pretty hefty price tag, but there will only be three issues and two of them have been published.

There's also Scarlett Declassified, a one-shot that came out last week, as well as Snake Eyes Declassified, but I haven't read that series yet.

Picked up AE #15 yesterday. Good issue, but not quite as good as #14.
