Hi gang. I just wanted to let you know that we have started a collection at Galactic Hunter to buy Shannon's son, Aidan, a savings bond. We know you guys loved Shannon as much as we did, so we wanted to give you the opportunity to contribute as well.
If you'd like to make a donation, and any amount is welcome, please PM me for either my PayPal address, or my snail mail address if you'd prefer to pay by check or M.O.
So far we have raised approximately $150.

This is a wonderful idea. I just wanted everyone to know that Name was able to ask Shannon about this. I also had the opportunity to discuss it with her. She was very touched and thought it was a very thoughtful thing for everyone to do.

Thanks for the head's up, Roger. I'm sure some of Shannon's friends here at JD would be happy to pitch in for her son's savings bond as well. Hopefully, with enough interest over the years, Aidan will have a full 4 years at a prestigious private university completely paid for! 8)

I'm happy to do it, Jesse.
As of this morning we are up to $293 thanks to the generous folks here as well as at GalacticHunter. That total is only for money I have received and does not include checks or money orders people have told me they are sending.
I am planning to collect until July 31st, after which I'll purchase the bond and send it to Aidan.

Sorry I haven't updated for a couple of days, but we're currently still at $376. I was waiting for a few of the checks/M.O.s or more PayPal payments to roll in before I updated the total.
If some more come in today, I'll update before I leave for San Diego, but that will probably be the last update until Tuesday, the 25th.

A few PayPal contributions arrived while I was in San Diego, and one check arrived right before I left, bringing the total for contributions from folks at Jedi Defender, Galactic Hunter, and the Dallas/Fort Worth Fan Force to: $474 so far.
I put my mail on hold while I was away and it should be delivered today, so if you sent a check or money order and it should have arrived by now, it's probably not lost in the mail.
Thanks again to those who have already contributed so generously. If you haven't had a chance to contribute yet and would like to, drop me a PM and I will send you my PayPal or snail mail address, whichever you'd prefer.

I received a couple more snail-mail contributions and another PayPal contribution since my last post, so the total of all contributions to date is now $703
A few folks have mentioned that they'd like to contribute, but are a bit strapped for cash this month, so I'm going to extend the deadline for contributions to August 18. I want to give everyone who wants to an opportunity to contribute, I just don't want to keep it open indefinitely.

Now for the big news...
I find myself with an extra Gentle Giant Shocktrooper Mini Bust/Bust-Up set from the San Diego Comicon. As a incentive/thank you to those who plan to, or already have, donate(d) I've decided to hold a raffle for the bust (Retail Value: $60). Here's how it'll work:
For every $5 you contribute(d) to the fund, you will receive one entry in the raffle. Therefore, if you donate(d) $5, you get one entry, if you donate(d) $25, you get five entries, etc. I will draw the winning name on or about August 31st to allow for any straggling checks to arrive by snail mail and clear the bank.

Current tally: $1339
I think there's a real chance we could reach $1500 by the end of the week. That would be very cool because the EE savings bonds I'm going to buy are purchased at 1/2 face value, which means that for $1500 we'd be able to buy Aidan $3000 in bonds!

This is absolutely wonderful. Having not known Shannon, I am so glad to be able to help Aidan in this and am extremely proud of this community for setting the bond up. I just can't tell you how happy I am for you guys. :)

Thank you very much to everyone who contributed, no matter what the amount, every donation helped and I'm sure, wherever she is, Shannon was touched by the generosity of each and every person who donated.
I will be purchasing the bonds this weekend ($3100 worth) and I will probably just go ahead and draw the name of the winner of the Shocktrooper bust this weekend as well since I'm not expecting any last minute checks.

Roger -- thank you so much for all of the work you put into coordinating this. :) Thanks to everyone who contributed. I know that Shannon was very touched by this idea and would be blown away by everyone's generousity. Aidan was her top priority and I'm sure she's resting peacefully knowing that there are so many people that care about him.

MY GOSH! That's amazing. Roger, this really is a great thing you did. Man, that's a huge amount. I wish I could've given more, but still, I'm amazed by the generosity in the online Star Wars community.

Thanks for letting us know who won, good person to have won. I honestly didn't want to win since I already have the bust and would feel guilty about it.
