Title: Early Bird and Series 1
Post by: JediMAC on December 21, 2002, 10:46 PM
Does anyone know if those new Kubrick figures have hit Japan yet (or anywhere else for that matter)?  I'm talking about the Bounty Hunter and the "Early Bird" sets that are the first official Kubrick figures that are to be released.  Also, does anyone know of any reasonably priced sites or people that you can buy them off of?

For some reason I really like these figures.  I picked up almost all of the bootleg SW Kubricks a couple years back, and have really been looking forward to these new and officially licensed versions since they were announced earlier this year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The only place I've seen these are in magazines.  They look really cool though. ;)

Looks like the new Star Wars Kubricks are finally starting to trickle out.  It appears that only the "early bird" set of Luke, Leia, R2, and Chewie has been released, but check out how cool the pictures of it look:

From the early indications I've seen, including 7 or 8 eBay auctions up for them right now, I think this set will likely run ya' a good $40-60, which is pretty steep.  But they just look too cool to pass up for me!

Just have to look around the net to find one cheaper.

Yeah, finding a reasonable price on these is going to be the big challenge.

...and don't forget, that ultra-cool bounty hunter 6-pack is due out next!  8)   **drools**

Ah, ya' lucky Canucklehead Dale!  I'm jealous, but I just won't drop that kind of cash for that set at this point, though I admittedly spent quite a bit on the Kubrick knock-offs a year ago.  Hmm...  I'll have to think about it...

Looks very cool, and that ESB bounty hunter set is just going to be way sweet!  Only at retail in Japan...  NOT FAIR!   >:(  But I guess that's how a lot of people feel about the U.S. quite often, huh?  Oh well...

Action Figure Express now has the Bounty Hunter 6-pack available for pre-order at it's site, for the decent price of $59.95.  Unfortunately, you're also going to get hit with an outrageous $10.95 shipping price.  But still, $71 for this set, considering what the Early Bird set with only 4 figures is going for, is not too bad.  I placed an order!  It's due to ship some time in April.  Here's the link to order it:

Anybody find a decent price on the Early Bird set, or is eBay our only hope...?

So far, ebay is the only hope.
Just around what I paid for & up.
There were a few auctions that ended around & over $100.  for the Early Bird set. :o

Nice score Dale!  What'd it run you?  (I can't find the auction on eBay)

But now that the official Kubricks have finally started to hit the market, we should probably differentiate them from the bootleg ones, like the Fett you just got there - unless that's really the same Fett that is coming in the upcoming Bounty Hunter 6-pack...  Otherwise, it's one of the older (non-official) Kubrick knock-offs.  Don't recall right now though...

Either way, cool figure!   8)

$19.99. Sweet.  The seller has one more left on his auction right now.

I found only 3 others in completed auctions. $14.99, $25. & $33.  I figured I should jump on it as it was a BIN.  ;)

The picture above was from another auction. Shows it way better than the sellers.

Looks like the Boba Fett in the tin I got is a Kubrick. It looks like it was an Exclusive as was others.
Kubrick Exclusive (http://www.anzwers.org/free/transformers/Others/StarWar/)

I did some checking around & found this link on SW bootlegs.

I would like to Thank member Auriette for a link to Hobbylink Japan which was brought up in another post in this section.
Kotobukiya and Fine Molds Wishlists   (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=725)

As mentioned in the other thread, I have delt with Hobbylink Japan before with other items Non-SW related.
While looking at the Star Wars related items, I found that they carry the Kubrick Star Wars #1.
They sell them individually, & they are packed randomly so they cannot guarantee which one you will get.

I sent them an email inquiring if they sell them by the case of 12. There individual cost each is 780 Yen, $6.50 US or $9.41 CDN. So for a case of 12, it would work out to $78. US or $112.32 CDN.

Here is the link the sets. Kubrick Star Wars #1 (http://www.hlj.com/cgi-perl/hljpage.cgi?MEDKUB-87)

As soon as I get a reply from them, I will post the cost. The beauty of getting the case even though you land up with 6 extra figures is, you can open each box yourself, you may get a variant  ::) & you get the display box.

Again, many Thanks to Auriette.  :)

Sweet.  thanks Dale and Auriette.

If there is any savings to be had by ordering two cases, LMK and we can do it together.  If not, no worries, LMK how it goes and how to go about ordering said case.  Please.   Whoo-hoo!  Poor house, here I come.

Post by: DSJ™ on April 23, 2003, 12:47 AM
I figured you would see this Brent.  :) I have no problems ordering 2 cases.  ;)
Though I do get hit by customs by them. Roughly $11. more plus the shipping. If they do sell them by the case, my guess is they will ship each case in 2 boxes.  They did that with my other purchases.
I didn't even think of checking there site out until Auriette brought it up.
I have been looking closely at everything they have & they even sell Marmit figures. I wish I would have known that before I got my Boba Fett. I would have saved aroud $30. US.  :(

I will keep you all posted.  :)

They also have the mini Tomy dioramas.  Series two is figures, whereas series 1 was mostly ships.  Mostly.  They are really cool little things, about 2-2 1/2" tall.  Trick is you don't know what's in each box.  I got 7 originally from a friend in Japan and never got the droids.  I finally arranged a trade for them now.

Series 1 included:
X-wing
AT-AT with crashed snowspeeder
Millenium Falcon
R2-D2 and C3PO
Darth Vader and Stormtroopers

Series 2 includes:
Luke on Skiff
Han and Chewie
Yoda
Maul and Qui Gon
Boba Fett and Carbonite Solo

About the Kubricks, just keep me updated.  Unfortunately I am all to aware of the customs adventure we endure.

Hey, I just picked up my first Kubrick figures from the Kane County Toy Show that happened this weekend.  How exactly are you suppose to put the gun in Boba Fett's hand?  It goes in all crooked because of that long extension of the gun.  Also, why does my Boba Fett look different to the one that Dale (DSJ) got a while ago (previous post)?

Here are some pictures for everyone...

Sweet pick up there Chris!  Did you get all 6 of them, or just those 3?  As for the Fett difference, Dale (and I) have the older "knockoff/bootleg" Kubrick figures from a year or two ago.  These aren't the officially licensed ones that are just now coming out, which are much better looking.

But, there IS a very nasty little Boba Fett Kubrick figure variation out.  Scroll down a week or so in our front page news to get the scoop on that soon to be thorn in my side!   >:(
Title: Re: New Star Wars Kubricks...
Post by: dustrho on April 29, 2003, 06:25 PM
I was only able to get those three, because that's all that was left.  I was really hoping to get all 6 of them when I was there.  They did have a Clone Trooper Kubrick pack (can't remember if it was 4, 5 or 6 figs) for $20, but I didn't get it.  Wish I had though.

I know there's a variation of the Boba Fett, and it's the one that has red gauntlets instead of the green, right?
Title: Re: New Star Wars Kubricks...
Post by: JediMAC on April 29, 2003, 06:40 PM
Check out this news link Chris for the differences in the TWO official Kubrick Fett releases:
Kubrick Fett Variant (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1051659890,68812,)

Jet pack and gun are also very different.  Some changes to the belt and pouches as well...

If they had Clonetrooper Kubricks at the show, then those were bootlegs/knockoffs as well, since the only officially licensed Kubricks so far have been Luke, Leia, Chewie & R2 in the Early Bird set, and then the 6 Bounty Hunters.  That's it.  But the bootlegs are kinda cool too, but will all likely soon be replaced with some much better looking official versions - so if you're just looking for the most aestheticly cool and accurate Kubrick, I'd try to hold off for the real ones which are sure to come in the not-so-distant future.  But $20 for 4 isn't too bad a price regardless...
Title: Re: New Star Wars Kubricks...
Post by: JediMAC on April 29, 2003, 06:54 PM
Well, this isn't very good news here.  Apparently these Japanese Kubrick folks really know how to mess with the whole variation theme...

As some rumors have indicated, there are indeed TWO secret variants to the Kubrick Fett (making 3 total).  The first "secret" variant has two red gauntlets, but this new one has one red and one yellow gauntlet - ala the old Vintage Boba Fett figure from way back when.  ARGH.   >:(  It also has a totally different gun from the first two, as well as red gloves and a blue color on the back of the helmet.

This variation crap is already really turning me off towards the Kubrick line.  Hope it doesn't continue, or I might just throw in the towel on this one...  If I can't manage to collect (and afford) a complete set of all releases within a particular line, then I won't collect that line at all...  Just the way I am - ALL or nothing.   :-\

Here's a picture of the 2nd secret Fett variant:

I don't know the name of the company that makes these, but these were sold at our local toy show for $20 each.  They're bootlegs.  They're definitely not Kubrick or Medicom, that's for sure.  They're not rare, but they're also not readily available.  For $30 I would do the BIN, but unfortunately I don't have any money to spend on these.

I've seen them upclose and they're pretty cool.  Wish I had bought them when I had the chance to.

How come you went with EB set first ($$$)?  Easier to get rid of?

Not sure about the availability of the solid cases.  Dale and I ordered two from one place (linked back around page 2 of this thread) and they are sold out, right Dale?  Seem to be popular, at least with some folks, if not the other boards.  Starting to see some interest in Canuckada too.

Yeah, the Early Bird set was more expensive, but I kind of like to collect "in order", not to mention Im very fond of the vintage theme to it, which was a big selling point.

I've seen cases go on eBay for about $100.00 or thereabouts, I may chime in on one. I'd probably be better off just buying the set, but its a tough decision

I love the Kubrick line (except the price and foreign exclusivity)...  Finally received my Bounty Hunter set a couple days ago, but I've got a few issues to resolve with ActionFigureXpress first, before I bust 'em all open...

This new set of four looks pretty good.  The Sandtrooper is awesome though!  Time to start shopping around for the best price on them.  Give us a holler in here if anyone finds a good lead on them!  And I still need the Early Bird set too...

Hey, Adam? Are you going to have extras from that case or are you planning on keeping one loose/one boxed?
Title: Re: New Star Wars Kubricks...
Post by: BigDumbWookiee on June 8, 2003, 11:36 AM
I had considered keeping one open/one loose, but there isnt enough in a box to do that for the whole set

You're welcome to a Fett if you need it. Do you need it still sealed? I was probably going to open all the Fetts, to look for Chase figures

Nah, loose is fine. He's gonna keep my 300th, Saga, and Boba bust company.  ;D

Thanks, and LMK when they get to you!
Title: Anybody else seen the new Star Wars Kubricks?
Post by: Mandalorian Madman on June 10, 2003, 12:05 AM
I bought boba fett the other day from kid robot and he is really cool...even for a glorified lego and brings my kubrick total up to 2 (have the promo wolverine from x2 that wasn't for sale at retail which I...bought...off ebay). anyway, really surprised at how nice the paint apps and detailing are on him.  plus he actually has lots of little accessories (blaster, pistol, removeable rocket, moving thrusters, and antennae). saw the early bird set medicom did but the $90 or so it's selling for on ebay is a little high for me right now. prolly have to wait for one of those auctions that ends at 2am and catch everyone sleeping or catch a $70-$80 buy it now, doesn't look like the prices are coming down any. have the bounty hunter set on the way and am more excited about it than I should be.  but the whole star wars kubrick thing has got me into star wars again (toy wise) and I have to say I will definately keep an eye out for new stuff medicom drops on us (series 2 looks sweet, especially the sandtrooper). move over hasbro...

Hey Mandalorian Madman -
I tossed your Kubrick post in here with the rest of the Kubrick conversation!  Lots of Kubrick fans here at JD, myself definitely included!  This new wave doesn't get me nearly as excited as the prior two, but that Sandtrooper is sweet, and the Han is very nice too!

First Boba Fett now Luke carded. If these suckers ever show up on eBay, they will go for major bucks!
Did you happen to check the link to the Medicom Toy Exhibition (http://www.ningyoushi.com/medicom/gallery/medicombapegala.htm)?

I just got to have the Alien set.  8)
They say the car is from Back to the Future but it looks like a Spinner from Blade Runner. I want that too.  8)

Hi DSJ,

Thank you so much for the info and the links. They are very very useful.

After reviewing them and comparing to my collection. It seems like I have the Chase Boba Fett (Japan- 1 Red and 1 Yellow chase). I was wondering what's the value on this Kubrick.

Also, is that true that this particular chase was actually a prototype and very few released?

Your time and info are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Rebo

Cool find Rebo! The market for chase kubricks can vary, but $110-$150 is not uncommon for that version by itself. It is the only loose Fett I am missing in my collection-

Its modeled after the Vintage Kenner figure.
The carded Kubrick Bape Fett is the same figure as well.
And there is a 400% Version also.

The Carded one.
Also note that the Carded Fett in the new set of six Bounty hunters is the other Boba Chase from Series one, the ROTJ version.

Thank you for the reply Crackbrick.

More question. When I was searching the list, I encounter an info which says that The Boba Fett was only released 250 of them and you have to be invited to visit their booth. I was wondering if that's the Carded, or the box?????

thanks

The Carded Bape Fett was the giveaway that year for what my guess is the Medicom Party that they held.
I hear there were only 150 of them.

Title: What's a good price for the early bird set these days?
Post by: icruise on April 19, 2008, 08:32 PM
I'm still trying to catch up with all the Kubrick releases that I have missed and one that seems the most crucial is the early bird set. Can someone give me a general idea of what I might be considered a good deal for this (either sealed or open/loose)? Does anyone know if I might have a better chance of getting a good deal in Japan? I'll be going in a couple of days and speak/read Japanese, so I may be able to use Yahoo auctions there if I can get through their approval process.
Title: Re: Early Bird and Series 1
Post by: Morgbug on April 20, 2008, 02:04 PM
I know I got a pretty good deal and only paid around $100 for mine, but that's a couple of years back and got it through a friend of a friend sort of thing, so cheaper than it should have been.

Right now they seem to be running around $150+ or so (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=kubrick+early&category0=) so if you can go under that, it's going to be a good deal.  $130 would be reasonable.

I'd think Japan would be a better source for sure than just relying on ebay, especially if you're going to be there anyway.

And welcome to the loony bin.

Didn't know where best to post this, so Series 1 seemed the most reasonable:

Instant Chase Figure Collection (http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-1-5-6-7-96-1-Marvel-kubrick-bearbrick-4pcs_W0QQitemZ260235418685QQihZ016QQcategoryZ48972QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

$484.50 (~$121 each) doesn't seem that bad to pay for 4 1:96 figures considering what the Series 8 rare chase figures and some of the other rare chases have been selling for recently.
Title: Re: Early Bird and Series 1
Post by: icruise on May 5, 2008, 05:07 AM
Since I used them last (several years ago) Yahoo Auctions in Japan has instituted a thing where you have to join their "premium" service in order to bid on things that are higher than 5,000 yen ($50). That's OK, but they won't take my credit card as a form of payment and while I do have a Japanese bank account from back when I was living in Japan, I forgot to bring my bankbook or personal seal with me, so I can't use it.

To make a long story short, I am unable to bid on anything over 5,000 yen, so I ended up using m-world service (http://www.m-world-service.com/) to bid on an early bird set for me. I won it for around 9800 yen (around $95). With the commission, shipping, and whatnot, I imagine it'll cost me around $125, which is still cheaper than ebay.

Hi guys, forgive me for asking a newbie question, but was the Kubrick Chewbacca only available from this set, and thus incredibly tough to come by/expensive?  I really want that guy, but for 80+ bucks (the only one listed on eBay at the moment), I might have to get used to the idea of living without him. . .

(also, DSJ, your avatar is putting me into a kind of trance. . .those ginormous mammaries are frightening, but incredibly comforting to look at at the same time.)

Yes, so far the only way to get Chewbacca (and ANH Leia and R2-D2) is in the Early Bird Set.

Buy the EB as a set, keep Chewie, sell off the rest (bet you can't do it).

Well, I guess we'll find out soon enough.  I saw this this morning and jumped on it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150256401491&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005

After reading the posts here yesterday, I figured this was a pretty dang good deal.  Still, 100 bucks ain't chump change.  I probably could have saved some money getting into heroine over these.  :'(

Don't think I could get rid of old R2, though. . .he is a pretty essential part of the crew (does "shift" mean something else?).

Yeah, that's a good deal. You don't get the "early bird certificate" but I could certainly live without it. I haven't even opened mine. Is there anything good in there? I'm considering selling that and keeping the figures.

That's a nice price for them loose, good grab. I have an extra Early Bird certificate opened & I think I have an extra box with tray for them somewhere in storage, will have to look. If you need them, shoot me a PM.
