Title: Harry Potter Figures
Post by: Brian on January 9, 2007, 10:41 AM
Just happened to see some pics over at TNI of a couple of HP figures coming out this year from a company called Cards, Inc.  Apparently they are the group master toy licensee for the Harry Potter property throughout all of Europe.  There are pics of the Harry and Dumbledore figures HERE (http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=57&itemid=10641), if anyone is interested.  I don't know if these are available here as well, or if another company is producing them, or even if anything is being produced.  I'm not overly familiar with past lines, but I thought that Mattel used to do a toy line for HP, but there wasn't anything out for the last movie (at least as far as I was aware of).  Perhaps NECA or someone does a line/lines, and I'm not familiar with it.  Anyways, just thought I would pass it along.  I was surprised there wasn't a mass market line at retail for the HP movies, it seems like it would be pretty popular with kids and maybe even collectors.  Maybe the Mattel line(s) tanked though.  I really like the books and movies, but my wife would not be pleased if I was collecting "toys" from them :).  Just thought I'd pass the link along, and see what everyone has heard regarding action figures for these movies.

NECA announced a few months back that they have obtained the license for the HP movies. After seeing these Cards INC figures, i'm guessing the license is only good here in the US. These figures are pretty good (I like what they did with Harry) but i'm curious to see what NECA has up their sleeves...

I like the figures, very close to the actual actors, but I would like to see the first Dumbledore.

Thanks for the info Madcow.  I actually read yesterday that the first previews of NECA's Harry Potter stuff was supposed to be in the latest ToyFare (released yesterday I believe).  I've also read hints that they might be making a 3 3/4" line, although I'm not sure if that is true or not.  I haven't seen the pics released online yet though (of NECA's stuff).

The first wave from NECA can be seen in the new issue of ToyFare.  It looks really cool!  The Death Eaters look awesome, and it seems like finally someone has made a good likeness of Harry in action figure form.

I was just reading this article (http://www.action-figure.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=20999) covering the UK Toy Fair and the UK's Cards Inc. line of Harry Potter toys coming up this year.  Although we won't have them here in the states, and I certainly don't need something else to collect anyways, the line itself sounds pretty cool.  Details in the article if interested, but there is mention of a large "Great Hall" playset, as well as smaller playsets of the Gryffindor common room and the Room of Remembrance.  Apparnetly these can be combined, and over the life of the line, you'll be able to "build" Hogwarts.  Something we've always hoped for in the SW line.  Sounds like it could be pretty cool, if it all works out.

The Harry Potter figures NECA will be putting out are freakin' *incredible*.  They had packaged versions of the first series (Harry, Death Eaters, Dementor and Voldemort) as well as 2-up prototypes of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Sirius (all from Order of the Phoenix) as well as Snape, Hagrid and some other oddball dude that looks like he has a unicycle shoved up his pie hole.  :)  One thing I'm really looking forward to is the Riddell Grave site...its base attaches to Harry's and Voldemort's bases in order to make a diorama.  Pretty nice.

Some of the pics turned out lousy (as was typical thanks to my shoddy camera), but here's what I got:

I was just reading through a newsletter from BigBadToyStore, and I guess I didn't realize that NECA is also going to be releasing their Harry Potter figures in the 3 3/4" Scale (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=NEC10507&mode=retail&picture=out).  Like I've said before, I don't need something else to collect, but it would be kind of neat to have a collection of these in that scale.  Oh well, there's enough stuff coming out this year the way it is :).

TheGD.com (http://thegd.com/news.asp?ID=1354) has some pics up previewing more of the Harry Potter 3 3/4" line coming from Cards, Inc.  These look pretty cool, but from what I understand that they are U.K. only.  Probably just as well, because if they were released here, I might have trouble not picking up at least a few of them.  Not necessarily sculpting on NECA's quality, but they look good and are more toys than statues.

Edit: You can also see the pics at Cards Inc.'s Official Site (http://www.cardsinc.com/hp_sneak_peak/index_hermione.htm).

They're certainly a bit more posable, but I think the NECA sculpts are much better by far.

Just saw some of the pics of the playsets coming from the Cards, Inc. line.  You can check out the Room of Requirements (http://thegd.com/news.asp?ID=1418) at theGd.com, as well as the Gryffindor Common Room (http://www.action-figure.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=21490) at Action-Figure.com.  Apparently, these playsets are "stackable".  Kind of cool.

I saw this at a Chapters book store this past weekend along with some other HP Neca figures.  They are very well done and the Riddell Grave site box set is just fantastic.  I won't get it, but I can't say I wasn't tempted.

TheGd.com has some carded pics (http://thegd.com/news.asp?ID=1495) up of the first few figures from the Cards, Inc. line.  Again, these are UK-only, but seeing these pics makes me think that a line like this could do pretty well over here too - if a company brought them here.  Smaller (likely more affordable) with a nice broad lineup like that might appeal to kiddos and collectors alike.  Anyways, pics at the linky if anyone is interested.

Can someone tell me who this is?

http://www.toytraderz.com/modules/eventgallery/v/toyfair2008/Gentle+Giant/Harry+Potter/toyfair+283.jpg.html

My counterpart did our GG visit at Toy Fair but didn't get any info on this guy other than that he was a character from a book that didn't make it into the movie.  Unfortunately all he remembered from the conversation was that he thinks his name is "Tom"...and he has no idea which movie.

Any help would be appreciated.  :)

Um, that guy isn't from HP he is from LotR.  More specifically, he is Tom Bombadil and his Mini-Bust there will be exclusive to New York Comic-Con and San Diego Comic-Con.  ;)

Thanks for the info Jeff.  He got the con exclusive part of it, just not the other somewhat important details.  :)

Bumping up an older thread here, but I was just looking for some advice on Harry Potter figures.  Our daughter has really gotten into HP over the past six months or so, and of course it is a little late for the "hype" so there isn't a whole lot out there as far as merchandise (at least at retail).  Anyways, I've been looking over some of the toy lines to see if there is anything I can pick her up online or via ebay.  Obviously, the Cards Inc./Popco line from overseas is pretty nice, but looks to be quite pricey for those of us in the states (although I do have a Hermione on the way for her, since she is her favorite).  She also loves the LEGOs, and thanks to some help from efranks I was able to get the Hagrid's Hut set, but the rest of them are long gone from here and like most LEGOs quite pricey online.

I know that Mattel put out some simpler stuff for the first movie (or two?), but wasn't sure how those were as toys.  I was just starting to look at them online a bit.  NECA also has some nice stuff, but those seem more statue-like for the most part.  Also, while searching ebay I found this and was wondering what it was from:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/290899759472?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/290899759472?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649)

I had noticed a couple other sets like this as well on ebay, and they seem to be Polly Pocket-like in size possibly.  They seem to be smaller (one shot had a comparison with a dollar bill) anyway.  Anyways, does anyone have any experience with any of the lines to give me some extra info?  Thanks in advance.

I always thought it was a shame that this movie series didn't have a really good action figure line to go along with it.  With all the movies, characters, settings, creatures, etc., it seems like it really could have been a Star Wars-like line while the movies/books were having their run.

Hmmm...never saw that before Brian...UK stuff?

It seems like those things I listed earlier are some sort of Polly Pocket sets.  I've ran across them in a few times in my searches now, and it seems like there were a handful of sets (made by Mattel), that are the same size as the Polly Pocket series of stuff.  Most of the auctions say "RARE!!!", but ebay nearly always says that so I don't know if they are.

I've been looking at the regular Mattel line just to see what was out there.  I vaguely remember them at retail while searching for SW stuff, but didn't take that close a look at them at the time.  Does anyone here have any opinons on them?  I'm primarily looking at them for a fun thing for our daughter to play with.  She's way into Potter, and with LEGO prices continuing to climb, I thought this might be a more affordable option.  I did get her a Hermione from that Popco (UK) line of figures, and it is very well done (looks like a SW figure really - sculpt/articulation wise).  It just looks like, outside of a few characters, it would get pretty pricey pretty quickly.  Thanks again.
