I was just wondering if the Spirit of Obi-Wan figure was ever released carded in the Hasbro line (Freeze Frame or earlier). I saw a carded one over at a local toy show and hadn't seen one before and know that the Spirit of Obi was an exclusive of Frito Lays (I think). I have a feeling that its a custom but just was wondering if one was ever released.

The Spirit of Obi Wan was only a Mail-Away offer & available in the Jedi Spirits 3 pack.

Definitely a custom Tom. There was a much nicer mailing box with pictures and text on it that the Spirit of Obi-Wan figure came out in Europe in, but that's it. There's also that great custom Cinema Scene of all three Spirits made by a guy out in Japan.
But definitely no Hasbro carded versions (yet)...

I saw one on eBay recently and the guy was up-front about it being a custom.
Personally I really like this sort of thing, if it’s done well. I once had the UK boxed version, and even though the packaging was very cool, I always thought a carded version would have been amazing. Anyways, the custom auction ended for something like 10 pounds, which I thought was a good price for such an interesting item.

There were two different mail-away packages for the spirit of Obi-Wan. There's the more common plain, white package. And then, there's a black package with an image of Obi-Wan on it. That's the one Obi-Robz is referring to.

Here's a picture I just found of the much nicer mailing box from the UK Spirit of Obi-Wan giveaway:

Some people actually like to get those custom cardbacks. I know in the case of a friend of mine, he's gotten several figures on custom cardbacks. For instance, he got a Rystall, from the "Jabba's Dancers" cinma scene like that. He knew it was a custom, and he bought it to get autographed by the actress who played the role. It actually looks a bit better than the Cinema Scene I got signed by the same actress.
Of course, that doesn't really apply in this instance. First, Sir Alec Guiness wasn't a prolific autograph signer, and the man passed away a couple of years ago.

Just a question. How many bags of chips did one have to consume to get this figure?
At this time, I was in the 6th grade and the Froot Loops Han is what sparked my collecting. I was completely unaware of this figure however.

Actually there was a carded protoype of this figure...
Thought the proto card was far from any other Hasbro carded figure.
If I can find pics of it on some of my saved disks I'll post it here.
The proto though was a pretty rare piece itself... a lot more rare than some protos out there.
Actually went a checked Gus' site (which was far quicker) and found pics from Ed Albano on there. Not sure if Ed still owns the piece or not but here it is...

Custom carded figures... you gotta love 'em. ;D

Nice work on that custom card. Although I can't understand why they put a lightsaber in there, too.
-
Nice custom, but the lightsaber does throw it off...
-
i always felt it was done wrong as a figure.
he should have been a clear color but with a tinge of tan for his robe.
and a tinge of blue for his skin...
it just gets pictured so well in my mind...
but i don't really see use for another spirit ben...

I wish Hasbro would do promotions like this. Havn't had anything since the Kenner buy-out. It was things like this send away that hlped get a lot of us back into the hobby.
I think it only took two upc's and a coupleof dollars to get him, I would have to dig through and find one of the bags to be sure.

I'd be willing to bet they used an old bubble set from either Ben or another figure of the same size that the spirit fig fit. It probably had the space for the saber, so the customizer included it rather than leave the space empty. Better with than without, IMO. But I do understand what you're getting at.

They used the exact same mold as the regular release Kenobi, so it was probably that buble from the orange card package.
