Title: Hasbro at Celebration IV... Wow.
Post by: Jesse James on May 24, 2007, 02:45 AM
Celebration IV is here and someone on the inside got us some information on the latest Hasbro wares we'll be catching out there in LA...  On Friday.

But for now, we've got details, details, details...  There's a lot going to be shown, and some of it is wildly surprising, some was already rumored, and some may even irritate you (SDCC exclusives anyone?).  Eitehr way, you'll want to check out our list of the NEW product Hasbro's going to be unveiling at Celebration IV on Friday!

(http://www.jedidefender.com/images/CelebrationIV/CIV_hasbro.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1179988642,16691,)
Clicky the Button to Read!

So a shadow biker scout?  Ewok army building 2-packs (finally)?

How badly does it hurt waiting to see all this stuff?  And from what I hear, the quality of 2007 is going to roll right along as it has been...  Articulation, softgoods...  Some re-used parts here and there, but where it seemingly makes sense.

Good times...  Good times.

It gets even better though...  Check out the fairly blurry images we received!

Not to mention McQuarrie Rebel Officer (Hoth) and SA 4-LOM...  *sigh*

Lovin' Lando's seemingly poofy sleeves too.  And I hope Han's a good "generic" and articulated Bespin Han too...  But man that's a good specific figure unto itself.

Thanks for all the info guys. Looks to be an expensive year.   >:(

The exclusive barrage has gotten way out of hand in regards to the McQuarrie product. These are aimed, for the most part, at the older "veteran" collectors, and making these figures show exclusives at 2 to 3 times retail is flat out anal rape.  :-X

Hasbro lost me last year as a carded collector with the HV & GB waves in the Saga line and they're about to one me as a "one of everything" loose collector.  :-\ And as for the vehicles, I am done.

Sorry for the venting and again, thanks for the info and images.

From what I can make out, the stuff looks awesome.  And this Battle Pack has potential:

It's hard to believe that we are being shown the product for the rest of the year, but pretty much everything looks to be a real winner.

Thanks for the reporting and pics, looking forward to seeing more throughout the weekend.  It looks like things really are continuing to be great this year.  The exclusives are getting a little out of hand, but they do sound pretty cool.  I really hope that Torture Rack Han has a "regular" super-articulated figure out of it as well.  There was mention of alternate parts, so maybe that will make that possible.  It sounds like there is a lot of great stuff on the way this year, can't wait.

(Nice work in L.A., guys--some rockin' stuff for the second half of the year, to be sure. . .)

Wow, the plethora of stuff being shown is awesome.

I'm just going to post about certain ones I am really looking for ward to or
are new.

Wave 6:
Han Solo (Bespin Torture Rack) with multiple torsos (It's about time! Awesome)
Lando Calrissian (Smuggler) This was an easy custom for me, but I imagine I'll still get it. Gotta get the poofy armed Lando!
Rebel General McQuarrie (Hoth Trooper with McQuarie likeness) Very cool. Glad to have another Rebel
commander and I'll probably get a couple of him to use for customs, namely the Yavin war room scene.
McQuarrie Concept Snowtrooper-excellnt. I can't recall what the concept one looks like at the moment though

Wave 7:
A-Wing Pilot (Tycho Celchu)-Nice, so Tycho finally gets a figure.
Ewoks 2-pack (NO wokling...that's next year;)) Okay sure. We can use more Ewoks. Was hoping for a wokling but no biggie for now.
McQuarrie Concept Han Solo-Another great in the McLine

Wave 8:
Clone Wars Clone Trooper (muddy deco w/ SOFT GOODS poncho) Is this one from Commander Faie's brigade?
Rebel Vanguard (from Star Wars: Battlefront) - Nice, a little late, but nice.
Pax Bonkik (Rodian Podracer Mechanic) WHO??

Comic Packs
A'sharad Hett & The Dark Woman (Star Wars: Republic) YES!!
Mara jade & Luke Skywalker (Star Wars: Heir to the Empire) Ok good for Mara.
Bultar Swan & Koffi Arana (Star Wars: Purge) Excellent, glad to get a Bultar fig.
Baron Fel & X-Wing Pilot (Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron) Cool, glad to finally get Baron Fel

Exclusive Figures
Concept Obi-Wan Kenobi & Yoda 2-pack (SDCC) Well this bites! Damn...was hoping to get the whole line and the SDCC exclusives are going to make it that much harder.
501st Legion R2-KT (SDCC) ??? Apparently a pink R2 in honor of Katie (r2-KT) the daughter of 501st founder Albin Johnson.
Shadow Scout on Speeder Bike (SDCC) This sounds very interesting. Again though, grrr, exclusive...
Concept General Grievous with shield from the Clone Wars ?? anyone have a pic of what this is supposed to look like?

Vehicles
Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Starfighter with Hyperspace Ring YEAH!!! Hyperspace ring!!!
Y-Wing Fighter (yellow deco with pilot and R5 non-removeble astromech droid) Glad they are reissuing
this. I got one way back when, but I wanted three of them. Hopefully they will be easier to find this go
around.
ARC-170 Starfighter (Clone Wars deco) Cool. I like the concept of this.

Battle Packs
ARC-170 Battle Pack - (Clone Trooper, 2 Pilots, Red/Blue Astromech) Okay, if you need the figs to fill up
your ARCs. I'm covered on the pilots. Might have to get this for the Astormech droid though.
"Wampa Attack" - Wampa, Tauntaun, Luke Hoth I'll pass on this most likely, but it may just sell well. It's
been a few years for either the Tauntaun or Wampa.

C4: Hasbro Galactic Heroes & Unleashed Battle Packs
Several exclusive "cinema scenes," featuring characters from the Mos Eisely cantina, in which two of the packages will fit together to form a complete scene...and one of them includes a light-up base with music! I like the idea of sets being able to fit together. MODULAR to a point. Now if they'd only do that with the 3 3/4 in line.

Figures include all of the members of the Modal Nodes (including Lirin Carn!), blue Snaggetooth, Jabba the
Hutt, Bib Fortuna, Qui-Gon Jinn, Jar Jar Binks, Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace), and more!  Some nice choices there!

On the Unleashed Battle Packs front, looks for new sets featuring Commander Bacara and his Galactic Marines and Mace Windu's BMF Clone Trooper Battalion! Awesome. I'll get these for sure.

Well that's as brief as I could be, sorry for the long post.

Anyway, lots of good things announced already from
CIV. Heh, much more money being spent. I can here the
cash registers ringing already.

I was thinking that, too, Matt!

Great work on the reporting, guys! It's nice to see some of the new stuff that is coming out (albeit blurry pics for the moment). One thing I'm happy about is the Gold-Squadron re-release: since I'm not a vehicle collector, I'm glad that there is no new pilot there!

I'll pass on all the exclusives save for the Mcfigures.

No Fel Comic Pack - Fel is a pack-in with the TIE Interceptor.

No Fel Comic Pack - Fel is a pack-in with the TIE Interceptor.

Hasbro confirmed that Fel is in the Comic pack in the Q&A, remember?

We can confirm that Fel *will* come in the 2-pack and that the TIE Interceptor will come with a figure, but it will not be Fel.  (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1177709286,63523,)

In one of the photos you can see the X-Winger.  It's one of the 2-pack photos obviously, but you can't see Fel you just see the XW Pilot.

Right hand side...

I cannot tell if it's generic or Wedge honestly.  Scum I think reported it generic...

Right!  My mistake.  I was looking at the image there and think I saw him next to the Interceptor and got my wires crossed.

The Pilot with the Int, I think (and hope) is the OTC TIE Pilot just painted with the 181st's unique markings/colors...  I was assuming that's what that was in the image anyway.

These things look absolutely amazing.  This is the best year yet for SW collecting - collector focused, high quality, lots of articulation, barely any repaints, tons of obscure characters, Hermi Odle, the concept line, highly articulated army builders, and not just clones...

After losing some interest at the end of last year, I'm 100% back on board.

This is probably the best year Hasbro has ever had. It seems to be the year they have gone all out adding huge accessories and pack-ins. Great job!

As one of the guys that complains nearly perpetually about Hasbro, I'll certainly agree with Rob at this point.  All the clones and prequel stuff were driving me away, but from what I've seen so far, they're instilling a pretty strong desire to keep collecting their stuff with me.  Good work.

Lots of good stuff shown so far.  Almost good enough to get me back into the 3-¾" line.  I made my choice and I'm sticking with it, but I'll admit the new stuff looks fantastic.  Hasbro really went all out this year.
Title: Re: Hasbro at Celebration IV... Wow.
Post by: Brian on May 24, 2007, 03:22 PM
Yeah, this sure has been (and looks to be) a heck of a year for Star Wars collecting.  I really like the fact that all of the figures in the regular basic line seem to be new, or at least have something new about them.  There hasn't really been any straight repacks, and that is welcome.  We're starting to see more and more well articulated figures, and there has been a lot of long requested stuff that has been made this year (or is on the way).

The only problem for me is, its going to be an expensive year.  My plan was to cut spending significantly this year (my wife would like it to be cut even more significantly), but its been tough with all of this great stuff.  The "other" lines might have to get the axe with all this great Hasbro stuff (well, aside from the 25th Joes anyways).  Its just nice to see the overall quality in the line taken to a higher level.  We've always gotten some good figures each year, with a good mixture of repacks or stinkers, but this year seems to have pretty good quality across the board.  Definitely looking forward to the upcoming waves.

Man am I glad to read someone else is thinking like this too. I really don't play with my toys, but dang I'm going to be SO tempted. The hyperspace ring is awesome. I'm not really so miffed that I'll have to get a second Jedi Starfighter, because I'll be able to show it in it's different configuration this way.

Man, there is just too much to talk about. I'm gonna look at some more pics though before I comment even more than I already have.

I gotta agree with everyone...this is a great year for collecting.  There are so many wonderful figure choices and sculpts.  Just curious...are those Lobot's arms on that super cool Lando Smuggler? And wasn't there supposed to be a McQuarrie Rebel trooper?

Cool, cool stuff.  The only single figure I find less than amazing is Concept Grievous.  He looks like one of the old Micronaut Bug/Aliens with the saw attachment hands!

I assume you mean a McQuarrie designed RT?  I thought so too, Mike.  But since there's 12 scheduled McQuarrie coming and we've seen all 12, most likely we misinterpreted and what we assumed was a McQuarrie designed figure is actually the McQuarrie figure himself.

There's hope left that Lando could be #12 McFig... or Palpy.

It appears that Ghost of Anakin is not coming with Hayden's and Sebastian's heads?

I'd like to see Hobbie without his helmet.

That is correct, there is still one rumored wave left for 2007 and that is where the Concept Rebel Trooper is -

Wave 9 - Attack of the Clones
  Clone Trooper
  Padme Amidala (Theed Dinner)
  Jango Fett with Poncho
  Voolvif Monn
  Destroyer Droid with Shield
  Concept Rebel Soldier

We know it is coming because Hasbro has confirmed a few of the figurs via the Q&A sessions (Droideka,  Jango).

Jeff's list from the Obi/Yoda thread:

Guess it needs to be updated now that C-IV has shed some more light...

#1 - Stormtrooper (30AC Wave 1 - RotS)
#2 - Boba Fett (30AC Wave 2 - Yavin)
#3 - Chewbacca (30AC Wave 3 - Tatooine)
#4 - Darth Vader (30AC Wave 4 - Jabba's)
#5 - Starkiller Hero (30AC Wave 5 - EU)
#6 - Snowtrooper (30AC Wave 6 - ESB)
#7 - Han Solo (30AC Wave 7 - Endor)
#8 - "Rebel Trooper" (rumored for 30AC Wave 9 - AotC)
#9 - C-3PO & R2-D2 (Celebration IV Store)
#10 - Luke Skywalker (HasbroToyShop @ C-IV)
#11 - Obi-Wan Kenobi & Yoda 2-Pack (HasbroToyShop @ SDCC07)
#12 - ?

#12 is a toss up - some people say Grievous is #12, some people say Hoth General McQuarrie is #12, some people say it's another exclusive headed our way this summer... only time will tell I guess.  Might be a nice question for someone to toss up at the Q&A tomorrow.  ;)

Agreed.  The A-Wing pilot has elbow joints, but the body they're going to use 20 times over the next 10 years doesn't?

New Arms for X-Wing Pilots.

New arms, and new torso.

I cannot stand that height thing and it's much less fixable than the DST's height issue...

I can deal without a waist joint, or ankles...  The arms and height piss me off on that DUtch body though.  Every rebel pilot is 6'5" huh?  Right.  ::)  They should crank out a generic "black lense/blue emblem" pilot from A New Hope so we can have one of the most commonly seen pilots first, and also so they have a nice new SA body they can now start slapping Wedge's head and other pilot heads onto.  I could deal with Biggs and Hobbie as-is though, but they could give us Pops for sure on the new body I think, or the black pilot from ROTJ or the guy with the mustach...  I'd gladly take some EU pilots too or Red 10 with his pretty unique helmet.

It's getting goofy looking...  Puh puh puh puh plllllllleaaaaaase Hasbro, knock that **** off.

The A-Winger though...  that's spicey!  I'd take some variants on that figure if they ever wanted to sell me him again. :)

I have to say, I'm a little surprised at how much we actually got to see from Hasbro - not that I'm complaining.  It just seems like the past few showings have been stuff we had mostly seen online already, or just one new wave.  They seem to have essentially shown us the rest of the year for their lines - aside from the rumored AOTC Wave in the basic line.  Its kind of nice to know what's on the way though, I just don't remember seeing quite this much in advance before.  Again, not complaining though, everything looks great.

Wow, I'm quite pleased with everything (sigh, expensive).  I'm headed out to LA tonight so I'm definitely looking forward to an up close and personal look at all the figures!

I'm just happy that 70% of what we're seeing is OT. I'm even digging some of the EU OT, like the interceptor and the Barron 2-pack.

Just noticed that JediInsider (http://jediinsider.net/g/?mode=album&album=CIV%2FThursday%2FHasbro&start=0) has some nice coverage up too, with some pics being a little bit closer if anyone is interested.

Holy cow.  You're not kidding.  Those are some nice shots.

Wow.   :o  :o  :o

EVERYTHING shown looks pretty awesome.  There's only a few items I don't want from this mix.  Unfortunately, I'm going to want all of those exclusives - hope they end up selling outside of the conventions.  :-\

They will.

The more I keep thinking about this, the more I beleive these will be readily available after the con. Think about it, we've heard time and again that 50,000 of a figure is a starting point for Hasbro for new figures. There is expected to be  60,000 fans there. Not everyone is going to buy one. Sure some will buy their full alottment but not all of them either. Okay so the vendors will buy their allotment too. Still, I just don't see 50,000 CIV droids or Luke selling at the con. And if 50K is just a starting point, don't you think Hasbro probably made more than this? I may be giving them too  much credit but they should know by now that exclusives sell well regardless. So I'm thinking they made much more than 50K of these figs. How much more, who's to say. But 75K yes, 100K maybe. These should become plentiful after the con.

I wouldn't get too excited about having to bid high on eBay just yet. I have that feeling that these figs may become like the Vader of CIII. I could be wrong too though, so take this info with a grain of salt.

I think you are right and they will be available.  However - is 50,000 the starting point for a $7 action figure.  What about a $20 action figure.  The could sell far less and still make plenty of money.   I still think they will be available, for example, you can still get a Comic Con 501st Storm Trooper on HasbroShop.com.

But again, 501st Trooper or the exclusive Vader have no where near the demand of the concept figures.  I would say NO previous exclusive has.  I really don't believe you can look at their performance as a valid comparison.

Y'know, these "new" excluisves could be a god thing in the long run.   In the Wilrow Hood thread, Hasbro says that they chose him over another much requested figure.  My guess is that they're talking about Yarna.  However, if the convention companies make good money on these new sculpts, maybe we'll get some real oddball figures.  Maybe a Yarna/Hoover 2 pack!

Good for you guys, be excited for WIllrow. I will shed my tears that another much requested figure has been passed over. I am sure they meant Yarna  :'(

I thought the exact thing evenflow, that it was Yarna who got the boot on that.  Weird though that one guy tells us a Battlepack and another's told CUrto basic figure.  We'll have to see what the scoop is.  Perhaps a variant ICMG in lounge clothing in the battlepack? :)

I'd like to see Willrow carded with a special dedication to our pal Scott!  :D

I think it'll be a travesty if Scott isn't mentioned in some form or another.  He's been the one that pushed for the figure.  Personally I'm all about buying him because I think humans get screwed from scenes like Jabba's Palace or the Cantina, and even worse is Bespin where it's basically all humans and the main guys.  I'm kind of excited at the prospect of something for Bespin that isn't a hero, villain, or a guard/trooper of some sort.

Regardless if Scott is mentioned, I'd like him to sign my carded figure to keep for posterity.

Perhaps a Willrow hood coin insert or something of the like with limited Scott sigs in it?? Let's do it Hasbro! Don't tease us!

Well, I guess news reports are saying the Y-Wing will come with Lt. Lepira.  :-\ Being a non-vehicle collector and wanting Lepira, I'm disappointed. I'm surprised, though, that it wasn't Pops that they included, not Lepira. I just don't see much facial scaring in this pic of him though.

Yeah thats what always sucks about vehicles. I always want the pack-ins but not the ship. This one has 2, so it is worth me considering. I will probably try ebay for the pilot and the droid though.

I have 2 Y-Wings; one was pretty expertly airbrushed with wear and he was selling it cheap so I bought it, and a regular version.  Despite that, I want this one too for the differences and figures included!

I've got a vintage one, the late 90's version, the red/blue/silver repaint, and soon this one.

Crap.

I'll try for the figs on Ebay - I like the Y-wing, but 4 of them is a bit much for me.  ::)

The A-Wing pilot will be good for customs. Looks like CC will be pretty boring this year, we'll porbably only see wave 9 & if we're lucky wave 1 for '08.

We need a new Ghost Obi-Wan with the articulation of Anakin now.

Y-Wing looks awesome. For some reason, I really like that SDCC Shadow Scout set as well and Concept Grievous (the silver guy).

Ok you guys who just want the figures, let me know, I like the Chin Guns on this one so I am going to replace my 2 Y wings currently in the Fleet.  We should be able to help each other out.

PM me...

Steve already sent a PM, but count us in for at least 1 each - not sure how many you're getting.  Thanks!

I didn't even know the dude had a name. I thought the figure with the new Y-Wing looked a lot like Jimmy Neutron.

Ok rather than reply to everybody....

Brent and Jesse J hit me almost immediately on the reply.

If I end up getting more than 2 extra Y Wings, I will contact everybody else.
I had no Idea there were that many people snagging just figures without Vechicles.  I got no less than 10 requests.

Yep, that's the way I got my Zev. I'm not a vehicle buyer, but try to get the pack-in figure if possible. I assume there's more of us out there that do that.  ;)

There's probably a name for every SW background character. Most get their names from the CCG, I assume. If you go to Wookiepedia: A New Hope (http://http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/A_New_Hope) page, you'll see some names that are unfamiliar. That's how I found out his name was Lt. Lepira.
