Title: Family Guy Star Wars
Post by: Brian on June 4, 2007, 10:34 AM
I think everyone has heard of the announcement by now, but Family Guy will be doing a 1 hour retelling of A New Hope as its season premiere next fall.  I just noticed this morning that JediInsider (http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=251&itemid=10381) has the preview online that was shown at C4, for those of us who couldn't attend.  Looks pretty good.

I wonder if this will show up as a BitTorrent or RapidShare file, anytime soon? I wasn't able to watch the clip, was planning on tossing it onto my iPod.

Yeah, I went to watch the clip again this morning, and saw it was taken down.  Hopefully it will show up elsewhere, I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

I liked the little preview, although I thought the briefcase gag was really, really weak. I'm hoping that R2-D2 can let go of the marijuana bag at some point. The "What if they come through a different door?" comment was hilarious.

Post by: Brian on June 7, 2007, 09:48 AM
Yeah, that was one of my favorite parts as well.  Its always funny when they can make fun of the "logic" of Star Wars.  I enjoyed the Alderaan comment by Peter/Han in the trash compactor as well.

I didn't care much for the Deal or No Deal reference either.  But I did get a kick out of the couch gag.

Well, the "limp lightsaber" crack was lifted from SpaceBalls... I think it's kind of lame that they had to borrow a goof from SpaceBalls, but Family Guy is notorious for that kinda stuff.

They should just release that episode independent of the rest of the season. I'm not a Family Guy fan, but it was pretty hilarious. I liked that they used the soundtrack in it. Especially when the scene when they were fighting the TIEs after escaping the Death Star and "Han" was singing along to it. Who hasn't done that?

Bug zapper lightsaber.  TAI Fighters.  Jedi Molester Obi-Wan Kenobi's limp saber.
"Aren't you a little fat for a stormtrooper."  Couch in the cockpit of the Falcon.  R2 bustin' a cap at the TAI's.  That had to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

I saw this report (http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/Family_Guy_Strikes_Back_109012.asp) on TheForce.net that makes it sound like the ratings were pretty good for this episode (the best since Family Guy returned to the air apparently), and talks have already started for an "Empire Strikes Back" version next year/season.

Oh god yes, lol i can just imagine an  Empire version and a Jedi version, they could be hilarious.
I loved it, the cel shaded ships looked dam cool and got me thinking I want them to go and make an animated version of starwars using the models GG has produced so far and basing the designs on them. The soundtrack with all the dialogue is there, they'd only have to spend the $$ on the animation, Oh please lucasfilm please give me an animated OT

The ghetto R2 was pure gold ... the rest mildly amusing but forgettable.

However, as a big Kenobi fan, casting the creepy pedophile guy just made me mad. They should have cast Francis Griffin, Peter's father. Or hell, even Mayor West.

Hell where was Joe?  Maybe he'll be in the ESB rumored episode.

I too was a bit disappointed with the pedophile Ben Kenobi, being a Big Obi-Wan fan myself....but it was still pretty funny.

Dude they should have cast Joe as Obi-Wan in a hovering wheelchair ... make it an injury from the Mustafar duel even.

I also wonder who they will cast as Yoda ... most of the first- and second-tier characters are already taken.

Title: Re: Family Guy Star Wars
Post by: Nathan on November 6, 2007, 12:23 AM
$23 for a ******* hourlong episode (less the commercials of course)? I realize that SRP is way higher than what we eventually pay at Best Buy/Target/et al ... but that still tells us it will be in the price bracket of a regular two-hour movie DVD, i.e. $15-20 on release day. For about 45 minutes of actual product, not counting the features. No thanks.

And the SE? What a bunch of ridiculous crap.

To reiterate what I said in reference to the Darth Stewie character key:

Good Lord ... will the post-movie pre-TV-show bottom-feeding never end?? ::)
Title: Re: Family Guy Star Wars
Post by: Reid on November 6, 2007, 12:44 AM
$20 is a huge rip off for an 40 minute long show... I paid $10 for two hour-and-a-half long TV movies with the Ewoks DVD, so this thing should be no more than that amount. The SE is kind of neat, but not worth the extra $$.
Title: Re: Family Guy Star Wars
Post by: Diddly on November 6, 2007, 04:23 PM
I agree that the SE is cool but it isn't worth the money. Hell, just wait until September/October 08 and you can get the entire season, featuring the Blue Harvest episode, for the same price.
Title: Re: Family Guy Star Wars
Post by: Nathan on November 10, 2007, 03:24 PM
I have a suspicion it won't be in the regular season set. At least not on the first release edition.

Hopefully people will just wait it out and buy it later then. i think releasing Blue Harvest separately is for people like me who only watched that episode but could care less for the rest of the show...

i'm still not going to buy it anyway, though.

Wow..What a ripoff.  I actually like Family Guy, but I didn't care much for this episode with very few exceptions.  I still probably cave and get the "standard" DVD as I don't need all that other crap.  I'm sure it'll be $14.99 or what not the week it comes out like all the othe bare bones DVDs.

Ripoff or not, you might be pleased to know the T-shirt is sized XL.  Works for me.

Price-wise this is the same as me buying the two-disc set of anything that I buy for the extras I never watch.  At least I can wear this t-shirt and irritate my boss with it.  That's worth a pile of coin to me plus I can always buy a new, fresh t-shirt if it hits clearance.

I picked up the regular version today and I'm really pleased with it.  You get a "director's cut" version of the episode, plus a cool interview with George Lucas which is pretty funny.

I'll check out the rest of the extras later.

Also picked up the regular edition. The "free digital copy" isn't working for me... it's a clean MP4 for my iPod, but it doesn't have sound. I've filed a complaint through iTunes but I might as well just rip the actual DVD like I normally do.

It re-aired on Fox tonight at the regular FG timeslot. I was hoping to catch a new episode but Blue Harvest was on, so whatever.

I did notice an error in the conference room scene though. Stewie is questioning Motti about design flaws, and Motti replies that there is a small exhaust port which, if you shoot a laser into it, the station will explode. The only problem is that the port is ray shielded (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ray_shield), meaning it blocks energy weapons, which is why the Rebels needed to use physical ordnance.

"The shaft is ray shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedoes." -- Jan Dodonna

I am such a dork. :-\

Sounds like the Family Guy crew is at work on their third Star Wars spoof (http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/Family_Guy_To_Spoof_Return_Of_The_Jedi_121527.asp), tenatively titled "Star Wars: The Great Muppet Caper" (spoofing ROTJ).  The above link also mentions that Something, Something, Something Darkside won't premiere until Fall of 2009, which is disappointing.  Hopefully the earlier rumors about it hitting DVD before that hold true.

It thought this was pretty damn funny and had several hilarious gags. The AT-AT scooting his ass on the snow was good, the practice on a hot dog first or you'll rip your dick off was great, but the best was the "**** off" from Han to Leia. It cracks me up just thinking about it.

I got the DVD for Christmas and found it quite funny and vulgar in the typical Family Guy style!  Seth McFarland does a good job spoofing the Star Wars films.  I will agree that this one was not as funny as the first - The Empire Strikes Back is a much more serious film and a lot less corny than ANH, so it would seem that there is less material to spoof.  The Family Guy ROTJ should be pretty good as there's lots of corny material in that film that can be made fun of easily ;)

I HATE Family Guy, but watched last night because of the Star Wars theme. This is their second SW episode. The first was ANH and this was ESB. Loved the "nailing the electical wires to the snow" line. The "robot camels" were pretty hilarious too.

I actually didn't care for it that much, there were a few funny moments, but I found the vast majority of it was the same tired Family Guy jokes that they keep using over and over again in the regular series, with a Star Wars theme. Like the AT-AT banging it's knee for example. They've used that same joke how many times now? There were a few original laughs but overall I thought it was kinda meh, didn't like it that much, but didn't really hate it either.

I was wondering if there was a bunch removed. From what I'd read it was way too raunchy to make broadcast according to a lot of people. I also found it odd that they had the Chicken in there and a huge brawl didn't break out.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Peter and the chicken scrapped in the dvd version.  I just remember Peter commenting on how sweet it was that the chicken was Boba Fett.

All that happened between the giant chicken and Peter was when Boba Fett rounded the corner Peter said, "Ha!  The giant chicken's Boba Fett." and that was it.

I expect they'll save the overly long fight for the ROTJ episode.

Got a chance to watch this last night, and it's easily the weakest of the bunch. They even admit it in the opening scrawl, but that doesn't mean it's not funny. Laughed quite a few times, specifically at the conversation about Seth Green, and the teaser at the Prequel trilogy being made. There's also a segment where Peter gets sick of the "cuteness" and makes everything more violent.

If you can get it for under $15, definitely check it out

I picked up the BD Trilogy earlier in the week for $22.99.  No clue why there's 6 discs in there, but I guess I'll find out in the coming weeks.

Picked up "Its a Trap" this weekend as well, namely for the sake of completeness for the Family Guy Star Wars trilogy.  I agree it was the weakest of the three, but there were certainly some funny moments and its always fun to see what Family Guy or spin-off show characters they make into the various SW characters.  I guess my favorite gag would have had to have been when the dead emperor fell on the Falcon as it sped through the Death Star tunnel - my brother and I had joked about that happening for years and Seth McFarland finally made it happen :P

The Seth Green insults were funny as well ;)

Unfortunately, the gag worked better in the most recent Robot Chicken Star Wars special.

At least they admitted it up front that they knew the ROTJ parody was the weakest of the bunch.

My favorite gag was when they made fun of the Yoda death scene, how he keeps repeating "Luke" at the beginning of each of his sentences. Chris' responses to each "Luke" got better and better, I think my favorites were "Still haven't gone anywhere" and "Only four inches away..."

This year at the San Diego big bay balloon parade we marched with the Darth Stewie balloon and it got caught on a tree so we had to cut the light saber off of him. we also lost control of it a bit because of high winds and a fifty year old man got tea bagged by Stewie. when we got the balloon up he was laying on the ground all scared. It was fun. Got some footage.http://www.10news.com/news/26320302/detail.html

Saw the broadcast of "It's a Trap" tonight.

I liked the Stormtrooper dead Ewok pillow fight. The excessive nodding was funny, too...but took up a lot of time.

Yeah, definitely NOT worth the wait. At least they admitted it sucked right up front. That schtick is completely played out now.

The DVD is funnier (barely).
