Sweet - I like this better than the S8 lineup!  Any idea of whether this will be a Mediacom Exclusive vs. Foreign TRU Exclusive?

It didn't say where they would be selling it. I wouldn't be surprised if i is through the Medicom Site again.

Ugh.  Wish these were easier for US Buyers to get a hold of.  Still waiting to see if BBTS can deliver on the Hoth 5-pack.

I'm afraid that the order period has already come and gone...  :-\

It went up for order the same day it was announced (2/24), with an order period of Feb 24th to March 23rd.

They can give it a try, but it might be too late already...

So does anyone know anyone who applied for the lottery on this set and has received confirmation?  The reason I ask is my neighbor sent me a note saying that they did apply for the lotter on these 5 packs and were expecting to hear something in Mid April but never did.

I think it's cheap for two reasons:
1. It's prequel stuff and I just don't think it sells as well.  Yeah, Zam, blah, blah, blah.  Gotcha ;)

2. It's early yet and folks aren't all that fired up by the lack of them around.  I'm willing to bet if it had been listed at $299 BIN instead, it still woulda gone.  I'd like the clone out of it, but otherwise nope.
Title: Re: 2008 Medicom Collectors Box Set - AotC
Post by: Dan on July 27, 2008, 11:17 AM
This set just has so much going against it- TC-14 is a 3-PO repaint, the red clone has some stripes, and Jango is choking up the place because he was overpacked in the regular assortment. The Super battle droid is unique, but I don't care much for how it came out myself. And Padme is pretty ho-hum in my opinion. Compare that to the 07 set (unique imperial trooper, Yoda on Luke, another droids figure, 2-1B and a ho-hum pilot) and it is a pretty big difference.  I won't be paying more than $100 or so for the '08 one. If they only made a handful, I guess the price will stay high, but I hope that is not the case.

Dan I was thinking the same thing.  I thought for sure the Darth Maul and speeder set would come down in price and it hasn't.  I think anything that is sold from the collectors club is going to be tough to get.

This is getting insane!!!  :o

This could be the beginning of the end for me with the boxed set stuff.  Being in the UK i sadly have to rely on the bay (where there's a will there's an ebay!!)  I managed to get the Maul with speeder for sub$150 including shipping which i thought was a steal.

Check Yahoo Japan auctions.  I got my 5-pack set from there just this week for $175.  Even with any fees you might pay a service to get this, it's still cheaper than these insane ebay items.  Granted, ~ $200 isn't all that "sane" on its own, but by comparison, it's somewhat better.

There are many out there, but the one I use is m-world-service.com.  I'd also recommend you compare the auction fee structure among several `services since they differ from one to the next.  But I can vouch fro "Masato" at m-world.  Very good communication, excellent packing and quick service on bid requests.  He ships once per month at EOM, so I have to wait a month to get this particular 5-pack since it didn't make the July EOM shipment.

I don't know about PayPal guarantees, of course that would be a question to ask PayPal, but I've never thought about that.  I do know that when I first started using foreign services such as this one (this is the second one I've used), I was also cautious/leery, and as such, I started small, one item, to see if it was successful or not.  It was, and I've never had any problems with Masato's service, ever.  I don't really like paying commission on top of the bid prices, but his time is worth something, including bidding, receiving, and re-shipping.  And until I have a friend living over there willing to do this, it's the only way to get these items from Japanese sellers not willing to ship internationally, which is most of them.

(http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/DSJcdn/Kubrick%20Series%209/Series9JangoFront.jpg) (http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i306/DSJcdn/Kubrick%20Series%209/2008BoxSetJangoFront1.jpg)

looks like the newest one also got shot down below. ::)

Just a question though...whats so different between these and the single release(besides it being a multi pack i know) I am refering to quality. Cause I found a battle droid for $12 at a comic shop yet I always see people online talk about how they had to pay $50+ a figure.

There is no difference in quality between the Kubrick figures in the basic series and the box sets.

The difference in price is related to how rare a figure is.  A battle droid is cheaper ($8-12) because it is part of a standard series, so it's easier to find.  It is the rare chase figures and the exclusive carded figures and/or exclusive box sets that tend to go for the higher prices.

Congrats Jeff!  I'm bidding on a bunch of loose figures right now.  I'm hoping to steal one or two of them, but will more than likely have to keep my eyes open for the right deal to come along on a full set instead.  'Deal' being a relative term in this forum...

Question for those of you with this set in-hand: Does the TC-14 include an accessory? What about Padme, does she include a blaster pistol?

Nevermind, I found it

Thanks. I might have to give TC a drink tray from my extra TAC TC-14 figure.

I had hoped it would go down as well, but all signs point to "no"

I will hold out a bit longer, and may just decide not to get this set  :-\

For those that are interested in the differences between the 3 Jangos (basic, 5 pack and 2 pack), here are Dale's 2 pics of the back of the basic and 5 pack versions.

(http://jedijaybird.home.comcast.net/jfbasic_back.jpg) (http://jedijaybird.home.comcast.net/jf5pk_back.jpg)

and here is my shot of the 2 pack version
(http://jedijaybird.home.comcast.net/jf2pk_back.jpg)

Aside from the obvious color difference in the suit, the 2 pack version doesn't have the holster straps on the back of the legs like the other two.

Do they all look pretty much the same on the front?  Obviously the helmetless one has a different head...

I picked up Padme, Jango, and TC loose from a friend for about $100.  Just couldn't bring myself to pay twice that for a repaint clone and a really goofy looking battledroid.  Pretty average set in my opinion - I like most of the figs, but there are how many different protocol droids and clones now?  The Padme is great and I have to have all things Fett, so definitely like those.

I don't deal with that guy for two reasons.

1) He asks for paypal fees on top of his auction/shipping price.

2) He has more than one ebay account.
Title: Re: 2008 Medicom Collectors Box Set - AotC

i dont think he can ask for additional money in an auction... i'm pretty sure you can report it and get his auctions shut down. at least you use to be able to do that.

2) He has more than one ebay account.

I don't think I've looked at auctions from this seller (so this point is not directed  towards him or anyone else in particular),  but I'll say in general that I've seen shill bidding from certain hong kong sellers. Couldn't prove it 100%, but when you see groups of items selling for surprisingly high prices, then the same group of items pops up for sale by another seller, and the same ebay ids bidding and winning, something's fishy. Just be careful and remember that if you're caught up in a bidding war, there's always a chance you're just bidding against the seller's automated reserve price.

Thanks for mentioning that Adrian. You were right. eBay Surcharges Policy (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-surcharges.html). I have reported it and I am now trying to get a refund for the additional fee.

glad to help. if you guys find an auction that is asking for additional money. just report them and ebay will take the listing off and will continue to do so untill the seller gets the message. Also, make sure you check Japanese websites...  you'll save a lot of money.

after looking at his auctions... he just needs help with his listings. He should just charge for shipping and save himself the headache.

Bobafett2007 told me he was going to remove the 5% PayPal fee from his auctions, but now he has simply changed it to a fixed handling fee, which seems legit. It that turns out to be 5% as well. Anyway, he is going to refund me my 5%. This should be in the scams and fakes thread. (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=14561.135)

Something more on topic. The ridiculous price for this 2008 collectors box is what caused me to stop collecting Kubricks for a while. That and the devaluation of chases by reissuing them as regulars (indiana, halo, han luke stormtroopers, boba fett). Before that I was a completist. Well almost. Last year I started buying my first bricks again. But now I only buy the ones that I really like and I try to stay away from chases.

Not sure if people are still looking for this set, but I happened to notice that the seller has reduced the price significantly since first being posted:

The box has some wear, but for those of you who are openers, it shouldn't matter...

Well I can tell you I have purchased a lot of his SW KUBS recently and they arrived sealed and boxes in ok condition. In fact i emailed him and he came down even more on all the items. He just wants to sell them fast. I got the Mail AWAY for 120.00  Mace 5 pack  for 150.00 and so on. No problems here with him.
