Just reading SSG's write up...sounds almost like we will get to pick a list and vote off on our site.  But it also sounds like it might be repacks :-[ (at least that is way SSG words it)

That's what DePriest was telling us at CIV. He pulled Curto, Dale, myself, and maybe Darth Spice aside and started talking about doing another round of SAGA legends but this tiem the voting would be done at all of the major sites. He wasn't real sure on the details at the time, but I think this time it is supposed to be 100% "fan choice" repacks. So yeah, a little disapointing but he did say that figures like Ephant Mon would be availible, so at least we get some say in what is repacked.

At this point I am hoping the McQuarrie figures can be voted on for repacks.  At least McFett and McChewie.

Ah good call. But we might have a chance at these again later in the year with refresh cases. So it might be premature to voe for them now.

Gawd, I just can't think of any figs I want to see rereleased again.

It's nice that hasbro is listening to us to this degree. But I too would rather have Willrow Hood or Yarna.

Agreed 110%. We need some new figures over all these repack/repaints.

Title: TO THE STAFF: How are we gonna do this?
Post by: David on August 3, 2007, 04:00 PM
FROM REBELSCUM:

Hasbro is looking for a final 5-6 figures that will round out the Saga Legends line, and which will be on shelf approximately March 2008. All Star Wars fansites that have been regular contributors to the semi-weekly Star Wars Q&A are welcome to send us their top 10 list of figures they would like to see us re-release.

Fansites can determine these 10 any way they prefer, either by polling their readers or some other method. The figures need to be in rank order of importance from 1-10.

All site top 10 lists need to be received by Friday August 17th. The following Monday, all the lists will be combined together (each website getting an equal voice) with the #1 figure on each list worth 10 points, the #2 figure worth 9 points, #3 worth 8 points, etc. The resultant point values will be used to generate one final Top 20 list which will then be posted to Hasbro.StarWars.Com for netwide fan voting through the end of August.

Figures ineligible for Saga Legends voting consideration

Ineligible: Any figures that have been used for exclusives or mainline sets from March 2007 or later (or previous exclusives whose retailer is still stocking them). This means that figures from sets such as:

the McQuarrie convention exclusives (Luke Skywalker, R2-D2 & C-3PO, Obi-Wan & Yoda)

Order 66 2-packs

Tusken Raiders

Mandalorian packs

Battlefront II packs

AT-RT Patrol

181st TIE Interceptor Pilot

ARC-170 Battle Pack

Lucas Family pack

Shadow Scout Trooper

Felucia Battle Pack

Ambush on Ilum Battle Pack

Clone Attack on Coruscant Battle Pack

The Hunt for Grievous Battle Pack

Kir Kanos/Carnor Jax comic pack

2007 vintage assortment

other upcoming sets are ineligible.

Some figures will not be eligible because tooling is not available at the time due to their use in upcoming products. This includes any figures from the previous (2005) Evolution packs among others that may not be available.

Eligible: All other 3-3/4" figures that were either released as basic figures, Vintage figures, vehicle drivers, or released as part of a multi-figure set prior to March 2007. Exclusives and other sets whose figure are eligible for consideration include:

Republic Commandos

Death Star Briefing Room

the Saga Tins

Zev Senesca

the figures from the Toys R 'Us Endor AT-AT

and the like.
Pretty much all other figures are fair game!

How will we be doing this? Thanks.

JediDefender Forum Members are invited over to the 2008 Saga Legends "Fan's Choice" Poll (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=15773.0) thread to post a list of the "top 10" figures they would most like to see Hasbro re-release in the Legends line.  Please read the whole post to be sure the figures you are voting for are eligible.

As stated in the poll thread, for the sake of making things easy for the staff, please post ONLY "top 10" lists in that thread.  Any discussion of lists or campaigning for certain figures should take place in this existing discussion thread.

Also, once again for the sake of making things easy, please limit your lists to TEN figures.  Ten figures, that's it - we don't care about any "runner-ups" or "honorable mentions".  If you vote for more than 10, the extras will be deleted.

Thanks, have fun voting, and good luck to your choices. :)

*And remember, don't bother voting for Evolutions figures.  Hasbro has already said that they are ineligible because the Evolution sets are coming back again in 2008.  ;)

WOW. That was harder than I thought it would be. This vote really makes you realize how many GOOD figures Hasbro's created over the years.  :-\

My first five (Ephant Mon, Evo Anakin and Palps, Oola, and Ishi Tib) were very, very easy for me to come up with, but the last five were real toughies.

Keep in mind as you vote that this is a great oppurtunity to prove to Hasbro that there is enough collector demand to support an Ephant Mon re-release to hang out with Hermi. Anakin and Palps are two that I never was able to get, so that's why I voted for them, and hot Oola and cute Ishi Tib are just cool figures that deserve some more time on the pegs. Oola was actually never even on the pegs now that I think of it.

I also voted for Wulf Yularen because he's really the coolest figure in the briefing set (which I never got) that a lot of people, including myself, really wanted to see on a basic figure card. San Hill and Dengar are two figures I never got that I voted for mostly for myself because they are needed in two of my displays, and DSG I voted for because I could just use a lot more of him. Great army builder, and great custom fodder as well.

Well, enough about me, who did you guys vote for and why?

EB Chewie (And VOTC) are really among Hasbro's finest figures ever made as far as I'm concerned.  A good vote there if it's made...  I'm debating who I'm going to vote for right now though.  I have some tough choices to make I guess.
Title: Re: 2008 Saga Legends "Fan's Choice" Discussion
Post by: DoctorPadawan on August 3, 2007, 06:27 PM
I found it really difficult to find even five figures I could stomach seeing or buying again.  I wound up going with more than a few army builders (8 out of 10 on my list are army builders), and even that was a bit of a stretch.

I wound up including Commander Appo on the list for the simple fact that I envision the eventual Saga Legends release of the "running change" SA 501st Trooper to be a pain in the ass to find, and I'd really like to at least have a small squad of SA 501sts.  And, in all honesty, I included Ephant Mon just out of spite, after Hasbro's comment about "dreading" rereleasing him a while back.

The hardest part about coming up with the list was not being able to vote for the ROTS Evolutions/Tin Anakin.  I've been trying to get one to replace the crappy action-feature laden Anakin in the green JSF for almost a year now, but it's been entirely cost prohibitive to do so.  Looks like I'll be trying to track down the Evolutions set when it's rereleased.

Here's one figure that I'd actually campaign for...

EPISODE I Gungan Warrior from the Fambaa creature pack

This is probably one of the more scarce figures in the entire modern line since the Fambaa wasn't widely purchased, and this figure was only available in that set.  So bolster the ranks of your Gungan army with this fella!

I think I take these lists too seriously because, honestly, I read some of the figures that people vote for and I fear for the future of mankind.  Some people can't even follow relatively simple instructions plus I've already seen multiple lists with figures from THIS YEAR that haven't shipped yet.

And here's a question, I've seen lists with all 4 Delta Squad RC figures on it.  Just from a math standpoint, why, when you can buy the set on-line now for $33.99+shipping for 7 figures, would you rather buy 4 on single cards for $27.96+tax (Target price)?  FAIL.

I didn't vote for figures that really need re-sculpts such as Uncle Owen, Dr. Evazan and Zuckuss.  I don't want Hasbro to re-pack them next year and delay them making the short list for new figures.

And also, I like Clone Troopers as much as the next guy but lists with all 5 (or 10 on some sites) being various Clone decos?  Come on.

For the record, my top 5 (I did post a list of 10 in the other thread) are:
Graxol Kelvyyn
Lama Su w/ Clone Child
R2-R9 from the Tin set
Star Tours R5-D2
VOTC Luke Skywalker Tatooine.

I couldn't even come up with five figures I would like to see repack/repaint of. There are too many I want redone over see something again. Maybe some kitbash figure would be cool, but again is this a Legends wave so that is out.

I find it crazy to see some many picking POTF2 figures :o. There is not one POTF2 figure I would like to see back on the shelves. Even the Darktrooper is crossing the line, but I want ot get one to customize. Not a total loss, but I can't see getting any more than one. Some of the Star Tours Droids would be cool to see again. Many custom fodder there, so I would welcome them. I don't know my collection has changed so much over the past couple years. If they were doing this back in 2004 I might have something different to say, but as it stands now I'm not liking this Legends line very much. I have only bought 4 figures in this line so far and I can't see many more that I would like to have. See the Legends 501st Trooper today and it's the AT-TE Gunner body still. I though this one was going to be the 41 style body, oh well just another I can skip on along with many others.

I don't get some of the choices either, but I struggled to come up with 10 figs I'd really like to see repacked.  I'm most for the post OTC Cantina aliens, Feltipern and company, because I still don't have them, and Early Bird Chewie, who should be carded and available for everyone.
Title: Re: 2008 Saga Legends "Fan's Choice" Discussion
Post by: efranks on August 4, 2007, 11:05 AM
See, those are awesome choices.  I almost put the Post OTC Cantina figures on my list just because they're really cool characters and decent figures.  The reason I didn't is because I happen to have them...although I'd take another Jerriko figure to open.

My top 10 actually has several Droids on it because they were figures that were either pack-ins with expensive sets or exclusives that were harder to pick up, and more expensive.  And I voted for both Ephant Mon and Graxol Kelvyyn because not only would I like another shot at getting them, but I'd love to have to make Hasbro put two of the three largest figures they've ever done on single cards.   ;)

Yeah, it was hard to pick but I just chose some figures I really want to see. Post OTC Cantina figs and Early Bird Chewbacca (since I never got them), and two of the better Battle Droid sculpts. I also picked the IE Wedge just because I think Wedge deserves a mass retail release.

I'm noticing an abundance of votes for the following:

VOTC Stormtrooper
Early Bird Chewbacca
Amanaman (sp?)
Oola

And that includes sandtroopers.com's votes. I'm really expecting the VOTC Stormtrooper to be #1. I just hope no clones win. Man I am so sick of clone madness. The clones were only in 2 of 6 movies and I was just not that impressed with them. I don't understand the big attraction.
Title: Re: 2008 Saga Legends "Fan's Choice" Discussion
Post by: eleavitt2000 on August 5, 2007, 10:02 AM
I voted for Graxol Kelvyyn because he was from the difficult to get Watto's Box set and he could become Senator Horox Ryyder.  He is a neat looking alien that I cannot see being available otherwise.  Shakka was another interesting decently articulated alien from this set and I voted for her as well because we need more Twileks.

Coleman Trebor is an Episode II Jedi of the Vurk species.  He did well, but not well enough in last year's Rebelscum Fan's Choice Poll and he goes for ridiculously high prices on eBay ~$30.  We need more alien Jedi.

Sio Bibble was a difficult to find Episode I figure and he commands high prices on eBay if you can find him.

R3-A2 from the TRU exclusive Hoth set is expensive these days and I never picked up any of the TRU repack sets at the time.  We have only seen 2 single carded R3 droids with the clear domes and one was an Episode II preview wave figure and the other a Star Tours figure.  We can always use more Astromech droids.

Boomer Battle Droid is just a great Battle Droid sculpt.  It is probably the best in terms of articulation and durability.  It is not rubbery.  In fact, I would like 2-packs of this droid.

I want the Red Royal Guard from the Episode III line because I only have two.  If I am going to select repack figures, I am going to vote for what I would want to see and what makes sense for repacks.

I would like to see the the Episode II Gunship Clone Pilot re-carded just so I could get the guns.  I assume the accessories will be the same.

I vote again for the Episode III Ki-Adi Mundi, and I hope Hasbro will add a Jedi robe, because I only bought one of these and this is really an awesome figure that Hasbro should repack.

I made my choices by thinking about what I would like and what makes sense to repack.

I also voted for Early Bird Chewbacca because everyone should get this figure even though I have three.

Even though he wasn't my #1, my #4 choice, Graxol Kelvyyyn, is definitely my favorite to win. Him and Ephant. And I think they've got a strong chance. Let's just hope that when they win fair and square that Hasbro doesn't give us any 'we lost the tooling' or 'they're too big' bu!!$h!t.
Title: Re: 2008 Saga Legends "Fan's Choice" Poll

1. Durge (more articulation please)
2. "Clean-up Droid 2-pack" from Gungan Battlefield -you need lots to pick up all those dead Gungans
5. Naboo Royal Guard (new head sculpt)
6. Jabba (better paint and texture)

This is a poll for straight repacks, not new figures/repaints/retools. Try again.

Yeah, it's not easy when you don't need the stuff. The first half of my list is stuff I'd definitely buy, but the second half was figures that were harder to get first time around that others my have missed.

I'm totally on board with Scott's opinion that the EB Chewie should be single carded available for everyone.  That is one of the best figures we've ever seen, and I know I'd like to have a few more.  Although I'm sure they will still finish high, I personally have had enough of clones in this line (the Legends one that is).  I'm happy to pick some up from time to time, but I think we've gotten a good chunk of them this year (and early next year with Wave 1), and I'd rather see some of the all-time great OT figures get another chance in the Legends line.  I've always thought it would be nice to see the OT troops (VOTC/VTSC Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, Biker Scout) available pretty much year round.  Plus, it would be nice to see classic looks (and figures) like EB Chewie and VOTC Han available at retail.

True, but I guess we just haven't seen a lot of the Saga Legends around here yet - and I wouldn't mind having a few more of these.  Also, I think it would be nice to see the OT army builders more readily available throughout the year (the way the clones are now).  That being said, its probably silly to list it since it is still going to be released this year, so I'll update.  Thanks :).

It was really hard to come up with ten that I would like to see, since I have them all. Blue snags I didnt get because I refused pay that kind of money for just one pack-in I needed. So that's #1. The rest are figures that were hard to find for many or figures I could use more of. The ROTS battle droid is probably my favorite battle droid and the stand he comes with is useful for dioramas. If I could get more Gungan Warriors maybe I could put together a little battle scene. The Obi-Wan I guess is disqualified but I always thought that was the best Ben Kenobi sculpt ever done.

I'm not getting some of the voting myself...  Gotta say, there's some choices I really REALLY disagree with, haha.  To each their own though, I just don't get the love some of these figures get...  Blue Snaggletooth especially.  It was a pretty lame kitbash in the first place, and hardly something anyone had a rough time getting ahold of I thought...

Anyway I'm peppering my list mostly with army builders...  Besides Early Bird Chewbacca and VOTC Han, I'm really wanting to see figures like the Tin Scout (Why vote for the VTSC one guys?  The tin Scout has the same articulation plus a movable visor...  Better, no?), VOTC Stormtrooper, and others...

I agree with others though, coming up with 10 figures you'd buy again isn't an easy thing really...  Short of army builders anyway.  I mean, I don't want Ephant Mon personally (have one, had a tough time selling an extra I'd found even), Blue Snaggletooth I've already said my mind on, have the Cantina Aliens...  Unless it's a definitive main character (SA), or an army builder (SA), it's really a tough choice...

About the only POTF2 figure worth voting for those is ASP-7.  Yeah, ASP-7...  I said it.  There's a figure that held up well I think.  I still nab those for cheap if I see them.  Anything else feels like a wasted vote to me though.

Here's the ones that I chose, and why -

In order -

#1 - POTC Pablo Jill - Easily the hardest figure on the secondary market to get out of the POTC line, plus one heck of a Jedi figure.  He's HUGE.

--------------------

#2 - Early Bird Chewbacca - Easily the best Wookiee figure ever made.  Keep repacking this one Hasbro... anyone who doesn't have this has a huge hole in their collection!

--------------------

# 3 - TAC Commander Neyo - A truly great clone figure that was available only for a short time and that being as a battle pack exlusive.  Repack this one Hasbro...

--------------------

# 4 - Tin AT-RT Driver - Very cool, just not fair to collectors to need to spend almost $30.00 to get one.  So repack this.  It looks Imperial and we love Imperials.

--------------------

# 5 - SAGA2 Dagobah Luke w/ Swamp Snake - Pretty cool figure but should be available without having to buy the whole X-Wing to get it.

(http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC/tscXwinglukeLS-tn.jpg) (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC/tscXwingsnakefr-tn.jpg)

--------------------

# 6 - SAGA2 Zev Sencesa - Our one and only true Snowspeeder pilot figure shouldn't be just as an exclusive with a vehicle... repack him.

--------------------

# 7 - VOTC Stormtrooper (with more pure white plastic, ala Tantive IV Stormie)

--------------------

#8 - ROTS Shaak Ti - One heck of a Jedi figure, with all the repacks of Aayla in the battle packs, it seems unfair to not find a place for Shaak Ti to return!

--------------------

#9 - ROTS Ki Adi Mundi - Another all around great Jedi figure that deserves to be on shelves again... if even in a Battle Pack, that's fine!

--------------------

#10 - ROTS Count Dooku - An ultimate version of this awesome Sith that should be put back into the line again.  And again.  And later on, again.

Now there are a few POTF2 figures here and there that I'd buy if they were repacked, but they don't top my list -

- Ishi Tib
- Pote Snikin
- Ree Yees
- Commtech Leia

Yeah, I remember Ms. Offee warming pegs all over St. Louis... Walmart, TRU, Target... you name it, she was there... and it's a pretty crappy figure too - one of the absolute renditions I've seen of any Jedi.

Stormtrooper (VOTC)

The top 10 has been pretty consistent.  There are a clump of figures around 9-10 that could easily sneak in to the top 10 with a few more votes.  I you haven't voted yet, what are you waiting for?

The top 5 don't look too bad, I'm just happy to see the EB Chewie in there (I really hope he makes the assortment).  I'm kind of hoping for a VOTC Han re-release as well, that's one of my favorite figures of all time and I regret not picking up a couple of extras when they were on the pegs.

Graxol, Sio Bibble, and the Blue Snaggletooth make no sense to me...

Blue Snag was easy to get not long ago, and really was a cheaply made figure, Graxol wasn't exactly tough either after the clearance gluts that came around.  A good figure though so I understand it a little more since it is a large, freaky alien...  Still, nothing hard to get there I felt.  And Sio Bibble is just a figure I hate seeing on wishlists...  He's got to be the most dull figure ever made, and only his rarity keeps him slightly interesting.  You take that away and he'll simply be a pegwarmer that we're all going to wind up hating (mostly because the majority of us actually DO have him, and those that don't won't like seeing tons of him on the pegs at stores I'm sure).

EB Chewie and VOTC Stormtrooper to me both make the most sense.

Easy to get for you, maybe, but not necessarily for everybody.  All the K-Marts cleared out of OKC several years ago.  There are still a few left in the state, but the closest one is forty or fifty miles away.

And even if there was a K-Mart down the street, I'm still paying twenty bucks for one ****** action figure I don't have, and two other ****** action figures that I already bought years ago.

Not exactly an ideal release, in my opinion.  That's why I still don't have one.  And I'm sure it's highly-unlikely that we'll ever see a new one in this line, as well.

I kind of agree with you there Jesse.  I understand why people include him (I don't have him either), and I'd pick him up if he made the cut - but it does seem like an incredibly boring figure.  I saw the Graxol pack one time, but passed, and didn't see it again - and I guess he'd be cool from the "big alien" standpoint.  Otherwise, I guess I'm kind of partial to seeing a lineup with EB Chewie, VOTC Han, VOTC Stormie, etc. - but I know I'm in the minority on that point.  We don't have K-Marts here anymore, so I'd pick up the Blue Snaggletooth if he was released as well.

Well i made my vote and boy was it hard.

VOTC Stormtrooper
-Great figure that i never got a chance to get (i say its great based on the reviews and repaints i have)
Early Bird Chewie
-I dont have a good chewie and im sure that this one is the best of them all based on what i have seen
The Deluxe Durge (not the basic figure)
-My buddy has this figure and it looks awsome.
battle droid (security) POTJ
- my buddy also has this one and from looking at it i think it is the best sculpt they made
Amanaman
- looks great. when i first saw it i wanted it but my parents said no because he wasnt a main character..of course i was much younger at the time
Utapau Clone trooper
-my favourite clone legion that was hard to find. I want more.
AT-AT driver -TSC
-quite possibly my favourite figure from last years set. and i had only ever seen ONE on pegs.
ROTS- Ki-Adi-Mundi
-he has been very hard to find for me and I must have him so my marines can kill something ::)
Utapau Shadow Trooper
-looks like a cool figure.
Ephant Mon
-im sure he would look nice with Hermi

those were my choice because besides two figures there I dont have any of them. I voted for those because they came out between the times that i stopped collecting and they are figures that make me regret what I did. I would very much LOVE to add those to my collection. AND I did not vote for that big guy because honestly it seems like a waste of a vote. He wont fit on a card and its quite visible that people are only voting for him to piss off hasbro.

I kinda figured that would be the reasoning Matt, so I see your point for sure...  However, my counter-reasoning I guess is that the set was so easy to nab here, to the point of clearancing, that I'm sure it's easy to get on Ebay...  Not that I've looked though, I am making an assumption there, but I doubt the pack would cost retail to pick up on the auction block or even in a trade, so my thinking is it's a wasted slot for Blue Snaggletooth when he's really held no value and is obtainable.  More interesting than Bibble though.

I definitely sympathize with not having the store that carried something in your neck of the woods though...  I went through that with Target at their start of SW exclusives actually since they didn't exist around Pittsburgh until the Y-Wing came out, and even then there was only one store.  To me though, it's the figures lack of secondary value (and subsequent availability online for decent prices) that kills it for me as something I'd like seeing again.  It's tough picking 10 of almost anything though when you have all this ****.

I'm sure my choice of a Boomer Droid doesn't agree with everyone though...  Some hated that figure I guess.  To me I can't get enough of it, but I'm weird that way.

Post by: JediMAC on August 10, 2007, 05:44 AM
It's really interesting to see the wide variety of choices in the poll so far:

1) Figures never on a basic card before from more expensive sets (Blue Snag, R3-A2, Zev, Wulf, EB Chewie, Paploo, etc.)
2) Army builders (VOTC Stormie, Biker Scout, Clones, etc.)
3) Hard to find figures (Sio, POTC, Ephant, etc.)
4) Pegwarmers "that I just never bought before" (the only poor choices in the lists, IMO)

As for me, I have plenty of every figure ever made on a basic card, so I have no need whatsoever for any more of those.  What primarily interests me, however, is getting "new" carded Legends figures that weren't ever available on basic cards before, whether they were in more expensive multi-packs (Blue Snag, R3-A2, Evazan, Wulf, EB Chewie, etc.), vehicle pack-ins (Zev, Dagobah Luke), or boxed/deluxe figures (Oola, Muftak, Amanaman).  In fact, those are my 10 choices right there, which unfortunately left no room for the OT army builders in the Tin sets that I'd also like to get a few more of for cheap.

But with the exception of #4 above, I can certainly understand and appreciate everyone's reasoning in their picks, whether they're trying to track down older, expensive HTF figures, or build up their armies some more, or just get some "all-new" carded figures that were formerly packed into older sets.  I definitely don't expect everyone to have the same tastes as me though, especially those who open all their figures and don't give a crap about adding a "new" carded figure to their collection.  But questioning people wanting to get former $20 - $45 exclusive pack-in figures for around $7 seems a bit odd to me, since many openers and carded collectors alike would dig getting many of those types of older figures on a $6-7 card for the first time ever.  FYI: Loose blue Snaggletooths from the K-mart Cantina set have been ending between $7 to $11 on eBay over the past few weeks (boxed ones are even more).  Add the ridiculous customary $5 shipping, and you're looking at a pretty good deal if you got one carded for just $7 in the Legends line.

Considering the high volume of re-releases Hasbro has pumped into their line in recent years though, hopefully they'll take a few additional hints out of these polls beyond just the 5 to 6 figures that win the Legends poll, and mix some more of these (intelligent) ideas into the basic carded line later on in the future.

EDIT:  I guess I'll throw some visual lobbying in here as well, since the clear-domed R3-A2 from TRU's Hoth multi-pack isn't a household name like some of the other contestants:

Post by: efranks on August 12, 2007, 05:23 PM
You know, when I did my list I actually forgot about R3-A2 and I was lobbying pretty hard for him last year in the Saga Legends poll.  I have a boxed set with him in it but I'd love to get him on a single card and open him.

One thing that I think about when I look over these lists is that, while some figures are cheap on eBay, the shipping kills it for me.  I'm guilty of telling people to go to eBay to get a swimming Jar Jar, for example, because he can be found for original retail or less.  But at the same time, I won't go to eBay for single carded figures selling at original retail, or close to it, because of shipping costs.

And it's not always the seller's fault.  It costs close to $6 to send 1 carded figure from California to NY using Priority Mail.  And there's not really a cheaper alternative now that the postal rates went up.  The difference is only some spare change.  Paying $12 shipped for a carded figure just seems too much to me and it's all because of shipping costs.  Obviously there are also those that gouge for shipping, $8 or $10 for one carded figure?  Please.  And no, I won't pay "handling" fees.

So anyway, while some of the figures on eBay can be had at retail, I can still see why some people are reluctant to buy that way because of shipping.  However, if you lobby for a *crappy* figure like Sio Bibble just because you're too cheap to spring for $6 shipping, well, I have no understanding for your poor choice in nominations.   ;)

I see RS (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Saga_Legends_2008_Fans_Choice_Vote_Round_2_107965.asp) has posted their top 25 from the first round of voting (now starting 2nd round).  I'm a little disappointed that the EB Chewie didn't even make their list at all, just because I hope that isn't a trend at other sites outside of JD.  That's one figure that really should be on a basic card for everyone to pick up (or pick up several).  I guess everyone has different opinions and choices, but I guess I'd rather see re-releases of VOTC Han, Chewie, Stormtrooper, or even Leia before more clone rehashes.  It will be interesting to see how the various polls add up when all the sites are done.

They would?

From the July 6th Q & A:

"Probably the only one we dread re-releasing would be Ephant Mon, given his obviously large size and much lower cost, which brings our average way down.  But if we embark on another round of Saga Legends fan voting, we will honor our commitment to re-release him despite the costs."

Don't bother, I doubt that figure is eligible.  They clearly state that the figure must have been released as basic figures, Vintage figures, vehicle drivers, or released as part of a multi-figure set prior to March 2007.

Rules/Clarifications:

- Eligible Figures:  All other 3-3/4" figures that were either released as basic figures, Vintage figures, vehicle drivers, or released as part of a multi-figure set prior to March 2007. Exclusives and other sets whose figure are eligible for consideration include Republic Commandos, Death Star Briefing Room, the Saga Tins, Zev Senesca, the figures from the Toys R 'Us AT-AT, and the like. Pretty much all other figures are fair game!

Last time I checked, Holographic Nute Gunray was never ever released, thereby making him ineligible.  Nice to toss on the list to get Hasbro aware of demand for him I guess, but ultimately ineligible.  I see a lot of people voting for figures with suggested repaints or kitbashes or whatever, but don't be surprised if Hasbro drops those even if they get enough votes...

I think the list turned out pretty good, I know I'd be happy with those figures.  I just hope the final results (from all of the sites) come out somewhat similar.  It is surprising to me how different the results have been from some of the other sources I've seen.  Personally, I've had enough of the clone repaints that I don't necessarily need to see more of them in Legends, but there seems to be a lot of other people who would rather see things like the Covert Ops Clone and other repainted ROTS clonetroopers.  I like the make up of the JD list, and if nothing else, I really hope EB Chewie makes it into the assortment.

Waiting on the following sites to report in (if you spot their top ten lists, please post them in this thread so we can all see and compare. This should give us a good indication of which figures Hasbro is likely to pick from):
www.Yakface.com (here's the link to their forum thread that will most likely show the results: http://cgi.denpetersen.com/YAK1/viewtopic.php?t=1973&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30&sid=1257fc6b7fb144a6f4c1706db8d750a4 )
www.4-inches.de
www.Actionfigs.com (possibly-not sure if they are contributing to the poll)
http://jediinsider.com/

If there are any other "official" collecting sites I missed, please feel free to post them here too.

So far it looks like the following are getting the most attention from the sites combined:
Graxol Kelvyyn (TPM Watto's Box Cinema Scene)
Zev Senesca
Spacetrooper
Shadow Stormtrooper

What's good about those four is that it's very diverse! An EpI fig, who'd have thunk it, heh heh. Two EU figs! And an OT Rebel Pilot...Hoth one to boot. All good selection, IMHO.

That actually bodes well for the whole line, since it shows we do indeed like EpI as well as EU and that the OT still holds our attention.

Some interesting choices out there (including a few pegwarmers?!).  Goes to show you the attention to detail that a lot of these other sites lack.  It appears that none of them are even aware that the EB Chewie is different than any other Chewies released to date, and may in fact be the best one of all.  Maybe I missed it somewhere in there, but that Chewie doesn't even seem to be in any other sites' Top 10 lists.  Considering that, despite it's first place finish here, it may not even make Hasbro's Final Top 20.  Mindboggling.  Considering some of the strange goings on in the poll over at GH, I suspect that they're going to wait 'til a few more sites chime in before they announce (manipulate) their Top 10 list to include some choices that weren't too well represented in the other site's results.  I guess someone who wants to spend the 20 minutes or so could easily calculate out the Final Top 20 once the rest of the sites have published their results.

So far, it looks like the Spacetrooper is the runaway winner here.  How the hell did that thing fare so poorly in the prior 'Scum Legends poll?  It must've gotten matched up against one of the top 2 or 3 early on in the bracket and gotten bounced.

My prediction for the Final 5 or 6 (winners) for Hasbro's poll:

1. Spacetrooper
2. Ephant Mon
3. Graxol Kelvynn
4. Zev Senesca
5. Shadow Stormtrooper
6. Commander Neyo

With notable favorites like Blue Snag and VOTC Stormie just missing the cut.  I'll be really bummed if Blue Snag barely misses his first ever shot at being a carded figure in 30 years.  >:(

I agree, lots of interesting choices. Can't really spot any real bad choices, especially since they are group consensus'. My only disappointment is that the only figures I can really use right now, the At-St Drivers, didn't make the cut.

Certain things just need resculpted and the AT-ST Driver comes up in that category to me...  An army builder, lacking articulation...  The Officer body is a good base for the figure now, it's neutral and all, but the articulation's sorely lacking on the figure at this point.  It's ok, kinda like the Commtech Stormtrooper being ok...  Fills out the ranks alright but as a figure it's just lacking.

Personally, I was real against the Space Trooper...  Would never vote for it.  The figure's based on art I can't stand since it completely bailed on previous existing spacetrooper designs, but more than that it's just a goofy looking figure with the weapon built to the forearm (where's his arm then?) and all.  Just not fond of it at all...  I see why the voting would go that way though, what with it being a trooper first and not exactly something people have huge armies of...  Still, I'd much rather see a new figure based on old designs than that thing again.  Such is life though.

If EB Chewie isn't in, I'm disappointed with the results automatically, but the VOTC Stormtrooper hands down should be out on the pegs routinely.  I'd say the VTSC Scout, and V30AC Snowtrooper should both also be out in the line routinely...

Then again, I feel the same about VOTC Han...  If you've gotta have Han, that's the Han to have out there.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed with the results from some of the other sites as well.  I guess, for the most part, I can understand the choices - lots of previously tough to find figures, exclusive pack-ins, or army builders.  I just really wish we could see things like the EB Chewie and VOTC Han hit the basic cards.  Those are arguably the best versions of those characters ever produced, and neither is easily attainable at this point.  Like Jesse mentioned, I'm someone who feels the VOTC Stormie, VTSC Scout and Snowtrooper should be on the pegs routinely too - just like the AOTC and ROTS clones are now.  Some good choices throughout the lists though, but some real head scratchers in some cases too.

I voted for the AT-ST Driver from the SAGA Imperial Forces pack in all of my poll submissions.  But surprisingly it didn't rank.  I think that might have to do with people not being as aware of multipack or pack-in figures than they are with the Basic Figures.

Over at FFURG, the EB Chewie was doing pretty good in the voting until we got a visit from our good friend Dan Curto. Dan informed us that the EB Chewie was not eligible for the vote despite Hasbro's initial remarks, which is probably why you don't see it listed at Scum or most other places. I for one championed the EB Chewie to be included in the 2008 SL vote, but stopped since knowing Dan for as long as I have, I've gathered that the figure is not eligible for this voting because Hasbro will be using it elsewhere in 2008. Hopefully, as it's own single carded figure, no more freaking multi-packs for previously released premium articulated figures!!!

I was championing for the Spacetrooper over at FFURG just so I could get a new one in the whiter plastic Hasbro has been using nowadays. My POTF2-EU Spacetrooper is yellowing something fierce.  :'( Besides I think it's a neat EU design and while doesn't match other designs, there is more than enough room for multiple takes on the concept. Hell just look at all the Clones and their color, armor, and helmet designs.

As for the AT-ST Driver, we were also pushing that over at FFURG, albeit using the Han Solo figure as a basis. Unfortunately in our final poll to fill up our last 3 spots from a choice of 10 figures, it was the only one to not get a vote.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Top 20 are as listed by Hasbro. I wonder if they will comment on any figures which were voted but turned out to not be eligible despite their initial remarks. More importantly, I'm hoping to not see more than one or two of those ****** clones!

BTW, when is Hasbro going to announce their poll?

The only reason that I can think of as to why Early Bird Chewbacca might have been disqualified is because there's already one Chewbacca in the Saga Legends lineup.  IIRC it's the ROTS version (an inferior figure, IMO).  And then there's the Bespin Battle Pack which appears to feature the VOTC Chewbacca which has very similar tooling to the Early Bird figure.  Either of those might preclude the EB Chewie from being eligible.  Frankly I think that's a terrible decision since it's such a great figure.

I agree that either would be a terrible decision, we all know that the ROTS figure when compared to the EB figure is a piece of crap. As a justification to make the EB Chewie eligible, I did push on the fact that the EB Chewie though based on the VOTC Chewie, probably has it's own mold grouping (head, torso, legs, etc) separate from the VOTC mold grouping. That didn't work though and I don't know if that's the case or if Hasbro saves money by just making a new mold for the EB head and then adding it to the VOTC mold grouping. Thinking about it, that's a good question for the next Q&A. :D

Straight from the Big H:

- 20 sites sent in top 10 lists
- 67 individual figures were named in the polls
- only 3 figures were dropped because some version was already planned for 2008: Durge, the EU Spacetrooper, and Amanin (Amanaman)

Here are the "fan choice" top 20 (in alphabetical order):

1. ARC Trooper (Clone Wars) red & gray #43 (Saga)
2. Bespin Guard (black ethnicity)
3. Chewbacca (Early Bird kit)
4. Clone Trooper (Treachery on Saleucami 2007 exclusive)
5. Clone Trooper Pilot w/ball turret (Saga '02 #49)
6. Coleman Trebor (Saga)
7. Colonel Wulf Yalaren (Death Star Briefing Room 2006 exclusive)
8. Commander Neyo (Treachery on Saleucami 2007 exclusive)
9. Covert Ops Clone Trooper (2005 exclusive)

17. Stormtrooper (Vintage OTC)
18. Utapau Shadow Trooper (2007 exclusive)
19. Zev Senesca (Snowspeeder Pilot)
20. Zutton (Blue Snaggletooth)

Hasbro is currently revamping their polling software to handle the poll, look for the next phase to start next week!

Looks like our Top 6 made it...surprised R3 didn't though as he was on a lot of sites lists I thought

#1 (tie) - Chewbacca (RotS Early Bird Kit)
#1 (tie) - Stormtrooper (2004 VOTC Sculpt)
#3 (tie) - Blue Snaggletooth   (OTC Cantina Aliens Cinema Scene)
#3 (tie) - Graxol Kelvyyn (TPM Watto's Box Cinema Scene)
#5 - Zev Senesca (TSC Snowspeeder Pack-In)
#6 (tie) - Ephant Mon (Saga Basic Figure)

I'm a bit surprised R3 didn't make it as well, seemed to be on a lot of lists.  Oh well, I'm just happy that EB Chewie made the cut (and VOTC Han, although I doubt he'll make the final list).  A pretty good list overall though - but I'll admit I'd be a little disappointed if we end up with a lineup of EU clones and Sio Bibble :).  As long as EB Chewie makes it somehow, I'd be happy (although I wouldn't mind seeing VOTC Han out there too).

It wouldn't surprise me to see those three end up in comic packs next year or something.  There was a recent issue that featured the Amanin species, Durge is a CW comic possibility, and the Spacetrooper could be another Thrawn Trilogy comic pack with the rumored Thrawn or Karrde figures.

Interesting results.  I like the choices (WOOHOO Gungan Warrior and Zutton!).  And I'm surprised that after Curto from RS made that statement about EB Chewbacca that it was in fact elligible in the process.

I can also understand about the inelligibles.  My own take?

Amanin alien - Probably destined for a comic 2-pack
Spacetrooper - Comic 2-pack & most likely reworked (Heir To The Empire IIRC)
Durge - Most likely part of the Clone Wars basic figure line.

I'm totally stoked about EB Chewie - and pleasantly surprised about Amanaman.  I'd love to see whatever 'new' version they come up with.

My top 5:
1. Chewbacca (Early Bird kit)
2. Colonel Wulf Yalaren (Death Star Briefing Room 2006 exclusive)
3. Commander Neyo (Treachery on Saleucami 2007 exclusive)
4. Zev Senesca (Snowspeeder Pilot)
5. Zutton (Blue Snaggletooth)

Here's who I'm voting for (and in order of most preferred on down):
1. Shadow Stormtrooper (2006 exclusive)
2. Chewbacca (Early Bird kit)
3. Han Solo (Vintage OTC)
4. Utapau Shadow Trooper (2007 exclusive)
5. Covert Ops Clone Trooper (2005 exclusive)

I'd get a squad of each trooper (5 figs each), and I need 3 more pairings of Han and Chewie for dioramas. So all told if those 5 are voted in, that's 21 figures from me alone that will be bought.

Ephant Mon
Gungan Warrior

I'm really happy with the top 20 list, so anyone can win, but I'd be a little upset if we don't get Blue Snaggletooth. I also would really like Wulf Yularen, he should've been a basic figure in the first place.

Nonetheless, I'm glad to see the Early Bird Chewbacca was eligible and made the final cut. If you're not voting for EB Chewie, you have no soul!!!  ;D

And here's to hoping the EU Spacetrooper is a part of a potentially large Comic Packs wave focused on the Thrawn Trilogy.

I have to say that I'm fascinated by Wulf Yularen showing up on this list, as the Death Star Briefing box set was neither hard to find nor overly pricey for what your money got you.  I mean, if released as a regular figure, he'll be a little over 7 dollars, which is 1/5 the original price of the box set at most etailers.  Sure, the Darth Vader sucked, and the Tarkin was inaccurate, but why not just buy the whole box set, get four other Imperial officials, and be done with it?  Am I missing something?

Looking at that top 20, I'm also really hoping the red ARC doesn't win, since I'd much rather have a red repaint of the superior in sculpt and articulation comic two-pack ARC Trooper than a reissue of a figure that has been outdone by leaps and bounds.  Ditto for the 2002 Clone Pilot, whose lopsided stance and subpar articulation has been outdone by the Evolutions Clone Trooper and its removable helmet.  It's like voting for the POTF2 CommTech Stormtrooper over the VOTC Stormtrooper.

That said, the five I'll be voting for are:

1-Bespin Guard (black ethnicity)
2-Chewbacca (Early Bird)
3-Ephant Mon (out of spite)
4-Graxxol Kelvyn (out of spite)
5-VOTC Stormtrooper

I'm wondering the same thing.  Why isn't there as much of a clamor for General Tagge?  He had a significant ammount of dialogue in the scene where you see but never hear Yularen.  And by the same token why no real interest in Chief Bast?  He has lines as well.  As does Officer Cass.  I find the whole fascination with Yularen rather arbitrary.

Well, if they're going by the scene that Yularen appears in, how would anyone know?  He's only shot from the waist up.

The only other reasoning I could see as to why Yularen *MIGHT* have black trousers is some of the other Imperial Security Bureau officers that are seen on the Death Star.  There are some that you see walking around with white tunics and black trousers.

I still don't see that as a good reason why we should get a figure re-released after it was out only a year ago.

3. Chewbacca (Early Bird kit)
6. Coleman Trebor (Saga)
7. Colonel Wulf Yalaren (Death Star Briefing Room 2006 exclusive)
8. Commander Neyo (Treachery on Saleucami 2007 exclusive)
17. Stormtrooper (Vintage OTC)

I think this is my list...  Some of the troopers made it into my top 10 or so...  I'd buy more Shadow Troops and things if I was given the chance, but ultimately I figure I'd rather have more Neyo's only, and of course VOTC Stormtroopers should be out in the line I think.

Chewie and Coleman Trebor would be cool to have more of...

I kept Yularen in there because I'm really REALLY hoping they fix his pants.  If they decoed him in all white though, it's disappointing.  I'd love to see some black pants though instead.  THAT would be worth purchasing in my book.

I almost left the black bespin guard, but really I'd rather a new guard get made than see teh POTJ again.  The sculpt's great, but articulation's lacking and the open jacket is inaccurate to the films pretty much, so I'd like to see a new figure with slightly better articulation and of course the closed coat.  Multiple ethnicities (asian with mustache, black, and a white guys too), would be ideal.

Hmmm...don't see VOTC Han Solo on the list anymore, that's disappointing.  It looks like he's been replaced by R3-A2, which is a good choice as well, but I'd really like to see that Han at retail again - I'd like a couple more :).  Plus, it is basically the "best Han ever", and should be out in the basic line more frequently.

UPDATE: I was just listening to the Force.net's podcast, and Curto confirms on there that the Bespin Guard will be the previous release (not African American, but the regular version from the POTJ line).  Also, if Blue Snag makes the top 5, he will likely be packed with the bar "straight" piece and stool.

It's entirely possible that the reason they removed him is that he was slated to make it back to retail in some other way...

Also, if Blue Snag makes the top 5, he will likely be packed with the bar "straight" piece and stool.

That would be a nice bonus as Blue Snag is a relatively low-articulated figure.  Would be an easy way to get more bar pieces out there...

And, I guess I'm not surprised about the PotJ Bespin Dude.  I was interested if they were going to do an alternate head, but without a new head, he's a big time pass for me now.   :-\

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm hoping as well - since that seems to be the reason the other three were taken off the list.  Hopefully that's the reason why.  The Bespin Guard change is a little disappointing too, but I guess I'm not surprised since it wasn't originally released that way.  The changes definitely change my voting up though, as I'm guessing it does for some others - it will be curious to see what the final lineup is.  I'm just hoping it isn't all EU clones and Sio Bibble :P.

Sounds to me like VOTC Han Solo might be slated for a re-release next year.  That's the only reason I can think of for why it might have been removed from the list.
Title: Re: Saga Legends "2008 Fan's Choice" Discussion
Post by: Jeff on September 7, 2007, 09:42 PM
Here is the further clarification, straight from Hasbro:

There are TWO list changes from last week.  The major one is the removal of Han Solo (VOTC) from eligibility because there is a high likelihood that he will be used in another set and will not be available.  Instead, the next highest-rated figure, R3-A2 from the Battle of Hoth mullti-pack.  The Bespin Guard listing has been corrected - it is not possible to vote for "black ethnicity" since no such figure was released.  Instead, the listing will be corrected to say "Bespin Guard (Power of the Jedi)"

Voting will run for 14 days and the top 5 vote-getters will be used as the final wave of Saga Legends.

Black Hole Stormtrooper

Early Bird Chewbacca
Shadow Stormtrooper
Zutton (blue Snaggletooth)
Bespin Guard (black ethnicity)
Gungan Warrior (Fambaa pack-in)

Chewie
Col. Henrik Wulf Yularen
Ephant Mon
Zev Senesca
Blue Snag

The cynic in me would love to see the POTJ Bespin Guard win.  On the new 30AC cardbacks, it'd look great hanging on the pegs. . .  . . .right next to the original POTJ Bespin Guards, which are still pegwarming at TRUs all across the country, six years later.

I was stoked to see R3-A2 sneak back into the mix, after being pretty disappointed that the HTF astromech didn't make the initial cut.  That definitely gets one of my votes.  It sucks to see the black Bespin Guard get nixed, though it technically never should've been in there in the first place since it wasn't going to be a straight re-pack.  That POTJ Bespin Guard kinda sucked though, so hopefully we get the black dude (and a couple other ethnic variants) in a more ESB screen accurate format later on.  What's absolutely lame is that Hasbro left that old POTJ Bespin Guard in their list of finalists, since I'm quite sure no one wants more of that piece of crap, and it's going to finish dead last in the voting.  Wasted a good spot in the list that should've gone to another candidate.  Sad to see all those Spacetrooper votes go to waste as well, since that figure probably finished first in the voting overall.  All that said, here's my final Top 5 list, in order of preference:

Zutton (Blue Snaggletooth)
R3-A2 (Battle of Hoth multi-pack)
Zev Senesca (Snowspeeder Pilot)
Chewbacca (Early Bird kit)
Colonel Wulf Yalaren (Death Star Briefing)

While I'd love to see the VOTC Stormie dumped back into regular (basic figure) rotation sooner than later (I still expect later at some point), I've got plenty of loose ones already, plus he was already offered on a card.  For this poll, I'm mostly interested in seeing OT figures offered on a card for the first time ever, hence my selections above.  It'll be interesting to see what happens...  Not much time left to vote though, so get your butts over to Hasbro and vote for my selections before it's over!  :P

1. Shadow Stormtrooper

I agree with Jeff and evenflow. The results suck. Hasbro's going to release clone variant after clone variant, after stormtrooper variant after stormtrooper variant anyway because they are big sellers to army builders and kids (and I suppose completionists).

But I should be happy for those like Mike that want them. It was a democratic process and the voices were heard.

I, too, should be happy for those who voted more more clones, but I'm not.  There were several rare figures on the list that I think should have won, but oh well.  I just saved more money.  I shelled out the dough when the shadow stormtrooper was an exclussive, but can't imagine buying more to open, since they're not in the movies and that's what I base my purchases on.

The only one from that list I really can't stand seeing re-released is the Covert Ops clone, that is probably the lamest paintjob for a clone Hasbro has ever invented.

I'm VERY happy to see Neyo won, but I'm really upset that Blue Snaggletooth and Wulf Yularen didn't win. Those two could have and should have been on that list in place of Covert Ops clone and Utapau Shadow Trooper. What a bummer!

I sort of get Neyo and Zev will hopefully make it easy to make a few Snowspeeder customs but those other three are lameness personified.  Luckily I was able to score 6 Loose Early Bird Chewies for like $4 a piece from some guy overseas.  I've warmed to the 30AC Stormie...meh, bring on a real Fan Choice Poll that I actually want something for

What is with all the hype on the Clone Troopers. I don't see it, as they are the only figures I see in bulk in my area, Clone Troopers phase 1 & 2. I got what I wanted and there are still too many to count.

I guess I'll save on this wave, because there are no aliens, as that was all I wanted. Would have been nice to see a droid even. Zev might be worth picking up for fodder, but I can't stomach any more Clone right now. I could care less if there were rainbow bright Troopers, I don't really need any more for a long, long time. Fun & odd thing is the OT Stormtrooper/troopers sell better IMO. They are only on the selves for a little bit before they are gone, so why didn't any of them win?

1. Shadow Stormtrooper
2. Commander Neyo
3. Covert Ops Clone Trooper
4. Utapau Shadow Trooper
5. Zev Senesca

Well...

Ultimately my huge disappointment lies in the fact that Chewie (VOTC or Early Bird) got hosed.  I mean, that's figure perfection, and I think he only got the shaft because most probably have him that voted in this, and they figured "why bother" with re-releasing him.  I find that short-sighted, but that's my opinion.

As for the rest, I'm not horribly disappointed...  I'll probably buy a ocuple of any of them, and with figures like the Shadow Stormie and Neyo, I could foresee myself buying small armies of both.  I'll get enough to make a team of Covert Ops clones now too, and I'll stock up some on Shadow Utapau Clones too and maybe do a little mini-dio of them rapelling down a wall or some such.

Zev is actually the figure I'm least interested in, but I see the reasoning behind his spot too for sure (I just happened to get mine from a friend so I was lucky).  I may get one to customize even and make a ground uniform Zev, and Hoth Wedge figure...  That'd work I guess.

So overall I think the results could be worse, at least from my perspective, but EB Chewie not being on there is really a shame.  People take for granted what may be the finest "main character" sculpt in the modern line there I think, and the kind of figure that should see steady re-release at retail (along with VOTC Han).  That sucks. :(
Title: Re: Saga Legends "2008 Fan's Choice" Discussion
Post by: JediMAC on September 29, 2007, 04:21 AM
Those results are repulsive.  Just a bunch of additional boring Clones, including a couple ridiculous non-movie versions.  I seriously think I'm going to puke.  What a waste of time that poll was, especially since Hasbro was most likely going to spit those Clones back out at us eventually anyway.  I guess JD and a few other sites aren't even remotely representative of what the greater collecting (voting) community wants.  I just don't get it...

I guess it's nice to get Neyo into folks' hands who could never find that WM exclusive, so that's not totally stupid.  Personally, I'm happy to get Zev carded, as he was one of my five choices, but I could give two ***** for the rest of that non-OT crap.  I'm seriously pissed that Blue Snag didn't make the cut.  No EB Chewie or R3-A2 either.   More clones.  Whoopdee ******' doo.

And the Shadow Stormtrooper seriously beat out the VOTC Stormie?  I find that very hard to believe.  I'm almost wondering how legit that final outcome was.  This sucks.  >:(

(no offense, Mike  :P)

I really wonder if these things are legit. I voted for Zev (the only one i voted for who made it in) but Hasbro almost pushed him on us saying he is available to vote for. I was willing to bet Blue Snaggletooth or Ephant Mon would have made it in. We all know Hasbro didnt want to re-release him due to cost. I dont know maybe we really are the minority in collecting.
Title: Re: Saga Legends "2008 Fan's Choice" Discussion
Post by: P-Siddy on September 29, 2007, 10:19 AM
A positive on this for me is that I don't need any of the five, so I'll save money there. I can understand Zev and Neyo as they were pack-ins that were hard to find as they were hard to find (sorry for the skipping record) for some people and it lets people who don't buy vehicles a chance for the pack-in. I got my Zev from Mike, who got an additional Speeder. I didn't think that the turnaround for Zev to go from pack-in to carded would be so fast. But knowing this, I'm can't wait to place my vote for Lt. Lepira for 2009s Legends.

I'm also hoping that when the general line is announced, we'll see Ephant Mon, Graxxol, EB Chewie, R2-A2 and VotC Stormie in the line-up. I wonder if these "Chosen Ones" will have the special pack-in like the Spacetrooper does as well.

Okay, well, regardless of your pube count then, just look through the thread.  See much support for the clones?  How'd they win?  Granted the respondents here are a small sample size, but 1 out of 17 JDers who responded to the results in this thread wanted those winners.  You're the only one.

I didn't get a chance to post on this over the weekend, but I'll echo a lot of the thoughts here already.  I'm disappointed with the results too.  I guess it doesn't effect me that much because I'm a primarily a loose collector, and I can just skip these, but its just disappointing that some other figures didn't make it out again - particularly EB Chewie.  I guess I'm a little tired of clonetroopers at this point too, particularly "non movie" ones.  I can understand Neyo, and I might even pick another one up to display with my other clones and leave the other one on his bike.  Zev I can understand as well.  I picked up the Snowspeeder, but I'd maybe get another.  Its just too bad each one of these Fan's Choice polls ends up being so prequel/clone/EU heavy every time.  In a way its a little surprising since many of the clones are starting to pegwarm a bit, and since the overall opinions of the Saga are usually how the OT is much more beloved than the PT (particularly the first two).  It doesn't seem to matter when it comes to the figures apparently.

Quote

That is what I think bugs me the most.  We occasionally see repacks of some of the better prequel figures (Pilot Obi, Clones, and what appears to be Evo Anakin next year), but for the most part that hasn't happened with many of the OT stuff (although Battle Packs are starting to cover that, and this year has been better).  I guess I'd like to see figures like VOTC Han, VOTC/EB Chewie, VTSC X-Wing Luke, etc. repacked now and then in the line.  We're starting to see it more (Fett, Biker Scout), and I hope that continues.  Especially in a line called "Saga Legends", to me Han and Chewie are more "legendary" to Star Wars than "Covert Ops Shadow Trooper that never appeared in any movies" :).  But, as others have said, great for those who voted for those clones.  Hopefully we'll see some of the other favorites released elsewhere.  I was kind of surprised Ephant Mon didn't win a slot too.  I mean, I have one, but it just seemed like a popular "stick it to them" choice since he's such a large figure.

Shadow Stormtrooper

Covert Ops Clone Trooper

Utapau Shadow Trooper

Zev Senesca

ARC Trooper (Clone Wars) red & gray

Clone Trooper Pilot w/ball turret

Clone Trooper (Saleucami)

Zutton

R3-A2

Graxol Kelvyyn

Ephant Mon

Stormtrooper (Vintage OTC)

Colonel Wulf Yalaren

Coleman Trebor

Pablo-Jill

Chewbacca

Gungan Warrior (Fambaa set)

Bespin Guard

We almost got that ARC Trooper. What the hell? Who votes for that sculpt to be rereleased when we're getting a rerelease of Fordo any week now?

These results are very crappy.

Looking at those results, I can't believe that Chewie finished as low as he did (among others).  I know everyone has their favorites, and I'm happy for those who are getting what they want, but I can't believe the unending love of clonetroopers.  I like them too, but some of those choices aren't even that great of figures in the first place, and I think aside from nicely done/needed resculpts (like Gree/Kashyyyk troopers in 2008) I've had enough for now.
Title: Re: Saga Legends "2008 Fan's Choice" Discussion

Yeah, those results blow my mind too.  It just goes to show you that the folks at most of the "adult" oriented collecting sites online aren't at all representative of the overall voting pool.  Blech.

Not surprising at all to see that Bespin Guard in the last place slot.  That was only (originally) included since folks were hoping for the black variant.  When Hasbro accepted that vote, then changed their mind, to only include the ****** POTJ version, they should've just pulled that horrid choice out of the lineup altogether, and given the spot to a more deserving choice.

Nice to see R3 finish in the Top 10, and a bit surprising since that figure apparently finished 21st in the original vote, and only squeeked in there when the VOTC Han got ditched at the last second.  I still can't believe how low the VOTC Stormie finished.  That's really the best indicator on who's voting for this ****.  People (mostly kids) want boatloads of Prequel/EU army building Clones, but not the ultimate OT army builder.  Go figure.  ::)

As far as EB Chewie's terrible finish, I'm guessing that the voting majority were just completely unaware of the differences with this Chewie, so they weren't even remotely inclined to vote for it, just seeing it as another rehash/re-release.  Equally ****** and surprising finish for Blue Snag.  In fact, come to think of it, based on these other results from the OT based figures, I'm pretty perplexed as to how Zev managed to do so well, when all of his OT counterparts stunk the joint up.

****** poll.

i'm not happy with the result, i wanted sio bibble, ephant mon and coleman trebor to come out, but they failed :( i can't understand why all these troopers get so many votes, it seems like people only want soldiers, i hate it

I could care less about the results. I would liked to have seen some different figures, but in the end, I have 'em all, so it doesn't effect me. At the same time, people voted for the figures for a reason, so I have to respect the vote.

I noticed that too.  Judging by all the great OT-based figures that finished so poorly (VOTC Stormie and EB Chewie primarily among them), I'm really surprised that Zev finished in the top 5.  You would have figured there would be another clone in there or something :).

Maybe Hasblo just has tons of loose Zevs sitting around the factory.........

I was totally surprised by this outcome, like everyone else has said there was better choices, I think I am little sick of the clones, but unfortunately it looks like we will be getting more next year as from the CW TV Series, Oh well all I can say is next year I can save money, I'll get the Zev and maybes if I see one in the wild a Shadowtrooper otherwise I aint really bothered with the offerings.

I totally blame the forums on some other sites for the outcomes of this poll.

I recall a friend pointing out to me that on one board, when people would post the figure they voted for and it WASN'T a clone of some kind they were blasted for "wasting their vote"

I had really hoped that this line would have been a collection of figures that had never been individually carded before - i.e. figures that they only way you could get them previously was as a pack-in to a vehicle or playset. Zev, Graxol, Blue Snag, the Fambaa Set Gungan, and Wulf were all great candidates IMHO.

As I just posted over in the Force Unleashed thread - clones aren't selling as well as they did in 2005. I think Hasbro should have tried to step back from doing so many members of the skittles brigade and focused on providing a better variety of characters in the Saga Legends line.

That was my hope for the Legends line as well. I know i have always hated exclusive pack-in figures from vehicles because i dont always buy them but want the figures. I guess there are less people like that than i thought.

I am one of those people I wish they would release the pack-ins as figures and part of the vehicle for those who collect the vehicles, I collect the Titaniums so I dont collect the 3 3/4 vehicles plus I would not have anywhere to put them.

Maybe the coins are scraped from the scum off Hasbro HQ's toilets and minted into "shadow" coins (with aromatic odor).

Seriously? Shadow coins? I can't stop laughing this is so silly. I'm glad that my NYR is not to give into Hasbro's gimmicks. Thanks, Jay, this really made my day.  ;D

I think the entire "shadow" concept is ridiculous.  Paint something black, and presto, it becomes a "shadow" something-or-other.  It won't be long before we get a Shadow Wampa.  An expanded universe comic will be included telling the story of how a branch of top-ranking Hoth Rebels started a secret program of hunting/capturing Wampas, taming them and training them to be part of a covert operation of destroying the Empire.  Their fur was dyed black to differentiate these Wampas from others.

Yeah, I thought Hasbro said in a Q&A answer (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbros_41st_STAR_WARS_QA_The_Answers_109431.asp) that we'd be getting a regular silver EU coin in this wave?  :(

I guess they changed their minds and decided to do the "shadow" thing and re-use the gold for the Covert Ops instead.   ::)

At least the shadow figs share the same coin, so we'll only be adding one coin to the album instead of two.  :P

Had I had known that, I wouldn't have tried so hard to track down a Darktrooper or look to make a deal for that coin.

Grr, friggin' Hasbro.  That Gold EU coin was supposed to be unique due to the Darktrooper winning the fans choice poll.

I realize the other one made the top 5 list, but that's not the same. A silver coin would have been just fine with this fig and given us another coin to collect. Besides this trooper is silver-ish, so it would have made even more sense. Then again I don't think we can accuse Hasbro of that too much...Prove me wrong Hasbro and make my damned AT-TE (and have it retail for no more than $100).

Not even close...  I'm pondering what to do, actually, and thinking about making my UGH set in a separate coin holder thing, if I can fudge making one somehow, that will open up some space...

Really though, I don't believe Concept Grievous and a number of others fit already, so there's definitely not a slot for "Shadow Coins", or even the hoped for silver EU coin (which I too had wished for, to counter the gold DT one).

Shadow coins?  If only in the real world.  "Hi, I'd like to pay for this brand new car with my shadow money."  "Where is it?"  "You can't see it.  It's shadow money."

I bet those Shadow coins will be selling for at least twice the retail price of the figure once they hit eBay.  :-\

So we've got 60 basic figure coins, 8 Legends coins (I to VI, gold EU, black EU), 12 UGH coins, 4 exclusive coins (CIV, CE, SDCC, IndyJones), 6 concept coins (McLuke CIV, McLuke CE, McDroids CIV, McDroids CE, McYoda, Grievous).  90 total.  Am I missing anything?  (Besides how the hell I'm supposed to get 90 coins into 80 slots.  ::)  At least the 6 vintage coins and the Toy Fair coin have their own display.)

JJ (or anyone else interested), I have half of the coin album separated from the other half if someone wants it!  Now, don't laugh, but I am such an OT purist (and I wouldn't have needed the whole album since I was not buying any PT waves), so I actually x-acto knifed the album in half.  The half that has the PT images on it now is separate and closes like a regular book.  I have no need for it if anybody wants it.  At least it will look like your other one instead of you having to buy some other kind of collector album!

The Shadow coin only complicates my coin collection even more. Since I didn't do a set of UGH coins, with the Indy coin, one each of the convention coins (Europe included,) and one of them flipped around, I had four empty spaces which which I decided to fill with affiliation logos, Rebel, Empire, Federation and Republic. A black coin and a potential EU silver coin kind of intrigue me to put into the album, but now I have no room.  :P

I know this is sort of "old news", but has anything been said/speculated where the VOTC Han Solo might see release this year?  I know its probably not a real big deal to many, but I was sort of hoping to be able to pick up some more of this great figure - and it really hasn't been available for awhile now.  Maybe it was supposed to come with the rumored Falcon, or maybe its still on the way in some sort of pack available in the last part of the year, but I was just curious if anyone had heard/read anything further on the possible re-release of VOTC Han.

Well - I don't know if it's true or not, but in the latest rumor report from Rebelscum (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/New_Rumor_List_For_The_Legacy_Collection_113180.asp), they say that the two 2008 Ultimate Battle Packs will be Endor Celebration and Death Star Escape.

My guess is that they'll use the VOTC Han Solo figure in the "Death Star Escape" set. Since the belt was a separate piece, they could easily replace Han's regular belt with a Stormtrooper belt.
