Figures that they would want something to go with the game if it is indeed going to be a big deal push.  Looks like repack Vader and Palpy with repaint troopers.

I'll probably end up buying them if they stick to the $10 price from the last few round of these sets..  ::)

Count me in for sure... I'm very happy to see the Evolutions Palpatine packed in, that's outstanding.

Vader?  Don't need another, but if these are just $10 a set, then these are a fantastic deal.

Since it looks like the Evolutions Palpy is included, I'll definitely try to pick that one up.  Like Jeff said, if these are $10 packs, I'll probably try to pick up both as well, but we'll see.  Despite the jokes about repainted troopers, I could see these being big sellers since it looks like super-articulated figures of troop builders.

Pretty box art.  I'll definatly be picking these up - if I can find them.  I planned on cutting back after the Unleashed stuff hits, so looks like these sets came in right under the wire.  Lots of wasted space just like the DVD sets, so I'm also hoping these are still $9.99.

I dunno ... I don't like any of the troopers and I really don't need another Vader. Evo Palpy is nice though.

Heh, the Red and White Stormtroopers are called "Incinerator Troopers"...
Yeah they should be thrown into an incinerator (melted down and remolded into a better figure...)

I like the Emperor set, but the Vader set is meh. I'm getting tired of the repaints, and worse now that they are repainting Stormtroopers. I don't mind the shadow ones, but I could do without the flavor of the month troopers...

If they are $10 then yes, I'll get one of each. But if not, then only the Palpy one.

Hmmmm.  So Incinerator Stormtroopers with Vader and Shadow Stormtroopers with Palpatine, huh?  It looks like they possibly redid the softgoods with Palpatine, but that remains to be seen.

The one thing I wonder about the Troopers with Palpatine is if they're actually all black, or if they're the grey/chrome troopers.  The photo simply isn't good enough to make that determination.  But at least we know now where some of these troopers are going to be slotted, because it was getting pretty obvious that they wouldn't release some of them in the Basic Figure line.

I don't know, it looks pretty clear to me that they are the new grey/chrome troopers and not the black version. Though it is stange that the box art calls them 'Shadow Troopers.' Echoing what most everyone else seems to be saying, if these are only $10 count me in for one of each. If not I'll probably pass on them.

I'm wondering if the that blue trooper we saw a few weeks ago will possibly be in another of these sets?

Scratch that, I just read the other FU thread and saw the card art for it.

Pretty different...  The price is right, probably, on these if they stay to $10, so I've got no real complaints...  I just wonder to what extent these guys play a role in the game or any subsequent books/comics for this "multi-media event".  Wish that Palpy would come out again with some nicer robes and a nice neutral head/hand sculpt for ROTJ.  That's a pretty nice figure in general so I don't mind seeing it again.

Far better than the past WM 3-packs. :)

Think of me come time Rob, and I'll probably pick up some of your extra stuff.  Just PM me.  Or you may want to see if Paul will split the troopers with you first actually.

I'll admit, incinerator troopers; catchy. I may pick up the Palpatine set since I kind of like those troopers and the Palpatine is the best to date.

So, does that make them the "IT" department for the Empire...

Bah, I'm still pissed they're repainting Stormtroopers.

They did a ****** job outside the trash compactor I guess.

manglord, I really doubt these arrive before X-Mas or anytime soon...  Being Force Unleashed, they're probably a ways off.  That's not to say that stranger things haven't happened, but I just doubt it.

Maybe these will be available on the release date of Force Unleashed? Didn't all the other WM sets get released on a specific SW DVD release date?
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets
Post by: Jesse James on December 12, 2007, 03:21 AM
I would assume so...  I believe April was the game's pushed back release date?  I was figuring most of the rest of the "multi-media blitz" would come around that time.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets
Post by: darthchuckmc on December 12, 2007, 07:31 AM
I thought it was pushed to February?
I like the Palpy/Shadow set. I never bought the Evo set, because I thought Maul was a waste, Dooku wasn't any better than the ROTS version, and Palpy's robe was too funky.
I'm sure I'll buy both, and since I usually collect 4 of each trooper, I'll have an extra Vader (or 2) and at least one Palp to trade.  :D
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets

February is when the first wave of '08 is supposed to hit, so April seems logical.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets

I'd think they might release these right when the game comes out; similar to the DVD sets.

Ok, according to Amazon.com, and a few gaming sites, the TFU game hits April 8th. I'd guess these will start hitting the last week of March, since Walmart rarely holds things for promotions. I know I found the 3 OT DVD sets before the release for both the singles DVDs and the box set a few years earlier.

April 8?  Damn, I'm tired of waiting for this blasted game to come out!  I hope to be able to find the various figures at least a month before that... the one good thing though is that I'll be able to get this in early February...

That has been the track record with the WalMarts by me. Each time the DVD came out there was a aisle display with the 3-packs. The size of the display piece varied depending on the release (large for the second DVD of the OT release, small for Clone Wars Vol 2 DVD release).

Hopefully it will be the same with these.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets
Post by: Adam_Pawlus on December 12, 2007, 08:23 PM
I just hope there will be a decent chunk of them-- the problem is that if there's decent figures in the set, here in LA at least, they tend to disappear pretty quick.  I never saw any of the Clone Wars Vol. 2 sets in the wild even once, and I saw a very limited number of the ROTS DVD sets.   I hope fans are as down on them as you cats are as maybe that might help their visibility when they hit.

The 2006 DVD sets, though, those were around enough.

Here's hoping they choke the stores with them.  If they're $10 a whack I'd buy at least 2 or 3 of each.   (I need a crazy articulated Emperor for my desk at work... and I gotta say, while I will no doubt change my tune before 2009, I like the idea of newfangled Stormtroopers.  I'd like 'em even more if we had some more vehicles for them to pilot.  I have no doubt a squad of these troops will be sitting in the side pockets of my Imperial Troop Transports soon enough.)   If they came with different guns (like a longer rifle) I'd probably be more giddy just at the notion of some armory variety.

I wonder if there will be a third one?  There's usually three, the Clone Wars sets being an exception.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets
Post by: Pete_Fett on December 12, 2007, 10:04 PM
Here's a scary thought, what if the third set is how they'll be putting out the Secret Apprentice?

Before you discount that idea, remember that the Clone Wars vol 2 sets had unique characters to the animated line in them. Granted they were old body sculpts with new heads, I'm sure they could cobble together a version of the Secret Apprentice from previous figures and just sculpt a new head.

Hopefully these two sets will be it.

I could see them doing that and making it a Gamestop/EB Games exclusive.
Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets

I could go for three sets, as long as the third one had a couple more army builders in it.

I wouldnt mind having these as a gamestop exclusive. Preorder the game and have the option to buy the sets.

Those sets are good fodder to work with, if these are indeed $10 I will buy them. I wish they would have molded Palpatine's skin in a more grayish tone rather than the peachy flesh color. I made an simple custom a long time ago swapping heads/hands on him, he really can be the ideal Emperor that we have been waiting for. C'mon Hasbro this is an easy fix!

I would hope the main character in the game is not an exclusive, that will be a real pain in the balls! A variant version of him as an exclusive would not be bad. We shall see......

Probably why he's always so pissy. Even before the lightning tore him up, he wasn't an "attractive" man. Kinda birdlike and pompous....and that hair, don't get me started. Getting lightly toasted was the best thing to happen to that koot!

OT: He'll probably be a pack-in with the game just to piss me off, since I don't own a game system, except for my beat up old SNES. (I'm refering to the Secret Apprentice here)

I realize that money supersedes everything in Lucas' world, but I find it surprising just HOW lenient he's been in the number of people involved in EU creation.  The argument could be made that literally anything goes in the modern SW universe, where as little as 10 years ago the rules were a lot more stringent.  Like religion, you have to pick and choose what portions of it you subscribe to: do you accept everything Lucas allows, only what he himself has created, or what SW was at a particular time.  I still like to read some EU and play the games, but for me the only canon is up until about 1985  ;D

I can live with those all black stormies because they were first appeared in some Marvel comic around the same as the first movie.

I think it's blantantly obvious that these OT stormies painted in almost every color of the rainbow only exist to benefit Lucas' offspring.

LOL!  Funny to skim thru the complaints about skittletroopers, then read DA refer to The Force Unleashed as the FU promotion (versus TFU).  Hidden meaning or coincidence?

I'm hoping that I'm wrong, but I'm starting to think that we might see changes to the Stormtroopers in the OT once the 3D Re-releases or the Super-duper Special Editions come out at some point in the future.

Even if it's something silly like re-doing that room full of Stormtroopers that Han runs into in the Special Edition of EP4 or painting each of the Biker Scouts to have camo armor in EP6 - I fear that batallion markings are eventually going to find their way into the OT films themselves.

Somewhere, on some level, I think GL learned his lesson about altering gospel. What he did had such an impact on the film industry, it gets mentioned in a lot of final cut/restoration documentaries, he can't have not noticed.

I haven't seen the Force Unleashed 3 packs at either of the two WM's that are close to me. I probably won't see them either. My WM is a black hole when it comes to figures.

Or a week before, put out by accident, so they'll all be gone by the date of the release.  Like many of their DVD tie-ins.

I guess I live in Wal-Mart heaven.  The midwest stores don't seem to have many of the problems that I hear about from other parts of the country.

You might be. Being from the East coast, I had never heard of WM until I went to college and they built one on the outskirts of the campus town.

These DVD "packs" are usually a one time 2-3 day deal at the 2-3 WM's that decide to stock exclusives in the TC area, but I'm really looking forward to these ($10?) sets moreso than the previous ones.

I dropped my old avatar for now (waiting for new storefronts) so hopefully I'll have some good luck this time.  Ya probably not.   ::)

Anyone spotted these yet?  If they are still on schedule to hit with the game's launch on the 16th, I'm guessing someone out there will find them sitting on an overnight pallet sometime this weekend...

Yeah, at Wal-Mart in Arnold, MO last night, they had about 6-8 of each one.  Not in the regular Star Wars section - but still in the main Star Wars aisle.

I like these quite a bit more than I thought I would, but I was hoping for a cheaper price than $14.84 for them.

Remember the good 'ol days when they were $9.96 and some of them included FOUR figures?

I got these sets last night. Not happy with the near $15 price tag. Don't really need the Vader or Emperor figures. The troopers are okay though. Haven't opened them up yet, but will in the next couple of days.

I picked these up myself tonight. Went poking around in places that shoppers really aren't supposed to poke and found a case of them sitting amongst cases of other toys.

Picked up two of each set. Don't think I'm going to get any more than that. If they had been $10 each, I might have bought two of each to open and one to keep MIB.

Oh well, I'm trying to get out of the army/squad building habit anyway...

Yup, just found many of each at a Wal-Mart on this afternoon's gas wasting trip.  For $15, I can't complain too much.  At least they picked the best possible Emperor mold and one of the better-ish Vaders, although I must say I'm probably near a point where I could man an AT-TE with all the Vintage Vaders between all the gift sets I've bought.  (Tins, Disturbance in the Force, Target Kashyyyk BP, VOTC figure, etc. etc.)

Did anyone look at the mock-ups on the back of the boxes?  I thought it was neat how they used other Stormtrooper molds for one of the two figures on the back (one of the Shadow troopers appears to be the Evo Sandtrooper body while the other Incinerator seems to be a POTJ Sandtrooper body.)  I like the figures enough, though, and some of the buzz in stores seems to be people think that these silver and grey Shadow Stormtroopers are the same ones as the Saga Legends/TSC Club Exclusive version.  I guess that's what happens when there's not enough variety in the product.

Unlike some other recent purchases, I don't feel like I've been taken by these. :)  I actually kinda wish I bought more but have recently decided that nearly every time I bought extra troopers for display purposes, I've never actually needed them.  That and there's more for other fans, I hope, if I don't build a squad just yet.

These stormies must be sold separately as saga legends or a new wave from Legacy collection.

They must improve this vader scupt someday with removable helmet and Shaw´s head.

The head of the emperor needs to be replaced for the OT´s emperor head.

The TLC Vader (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/TLC/basicfigures/08.html) from wave 1 is as good as were gonna get for a while I think.

These were on an endcap tonight at a local WM I hit up, and they had maybe 3 of each at most?  I got one of each and called it a day.  Sad that 3-packs have spiked $5 too.  Weren't these $10 the last time 3-packs hit WM?   :-\

I'm hoping for this as well. The new Shadow Stormtrooper deco is pretty neat. I'm not as taken with the Inferno Stormtroopers, but the Shadow ones are pretty cool.

I'm calling the Incinerator troopers various names:
Fire Trooper (hey we have Snow and Sand troopers, so why not)

Also:
Christmas trooper
Candycane trooper

Granted the last two are to make fun, but they would look neat on a tree...

I had stopped in at the BrooklynGheto Park Wal-Mart and was reminded why the store needs to be burned to the ground!!!

Luckily the EP dump of a store has the sets at lunch.

Picked these up today.  The troopers look cool.  But I was disappointed that the Emporer didn't have the same paint apps as the Order 66 version.

I don't necessarily need to have these, but would probably grab at least one of the packs if I happened to see them.  It doesn't seem like our local store has any sign of these, unless they sold out instantly.  I stopped in last Wednesday, and there was no sign of these (still some Droid Factory sets at a new, higher full price though on an endcap).

I've seen them at a couple Wal-Marts now, but I'm having a hard time biting.  I like the Stormies, I'll put them with the Evo & Jump Troopers, or something, but I'm not sure I have need for another Vader and another Palpy.  I'm not sure I'll be ready to spend $30 for 4 Stormtroopers just yet.

I picked up the Vader and Incident Troopers pack at Wally the other day, now I'm seeing some people on the otheR Site saying they are benig marked down to $10, anyone seeing this in their area?  I'd like to get my price adjusted if this is the case, but it's probably one of those things thats only happening at two WMs in West Texas....  :P

Is is really worth it to go back and try and get a price adjustment for a few bucks?  I guess to some people it is, but I never have taken the extra time out of my day to try it.

Are you already in the store?  Most likely, yes...  So why not try to get the $4?  I don't see the big deal there.

Considering what gas costs these days, $4's a gallon, so that's a pretty decent reason to get your money back I think.

Can I afford an extra $4.00?  Sure.

Do I want to spend one penny more on Star Wars toys than is needed to keep my collection up to date?  Hell no.

I just wouldn't make an extra trip for a few bucks.  Just getting there in gas already eliminates my gain, plus I just lost time in my day.

If you're talking $20 or something, then sure.  But I really don't save my receipts anyways though.  I know I'm going to open my figures and enjoy them, and if something goes down in price, I'm not going to regret my purchase.

Title: Re: Wal-Mart "The Force Unleashed" Box Sets

Well, I hope you do get a few bucks back, but I think Wal-Mart will only do so if they have marked the item down at that particular store.  Their managers seem to have more individual say-so on their individual store markdowns than Target or TRU does.

I remember a while back a Wal-Mart in my area had marked all their SAGA2 figures down to $3.00 - I bought a few figures, then went to a different Wal-Mart hoping they'd price match the other store, but they said that sort of thing is done on a store-by-store basis.  Which made sense, as it was an individual store lowering their prices.

It's just like their clearance sections, you never know what you'll find on clearance there or what the markdown will be at each store.

I picked up the Emporer/shadow stormy pack for $14.99. It was pretty beat up and dusty. A bargin by todays prices.
