Title: Clone Wars Wave 3 (2008)
Post by: Jeff on July 16, 2008, 02:40 PM
Just sort of re-organizing some things and spinning this off from the Wave 2 thread since technically, these are wave 3 according to the Release Guide (http://www.hasbro.com/common/images/news/starwars//StarWars2008LAUNCHLINEUP.pdf):

#13 Count Dooku
#14 Plo Koon
#15 Asajj Ventress
#16 C-3PO
#17 Destroyer Droid
#18 IG-86 Assassin Droid

They are planned to be out on or around 11/15/08.  Pics ofmost of them (No Droideka or Asajj) can be found in the Clone Wars Handbook (http://www.hasbro.com/common/images/news/starwars//SW_HasbroHandbook.pdf).

Why does the Destroyer Droid not have a release date in the Handbook, was it canceled or something? ???

I'm guessing it was just an "oops" and somehow the date was deleted...

I'll probably buy Plo Koon. That's looking like a nice figure.  :)

I'm really digging Plo Koon (http://www.rebelscum.com/sdcc08/Hasbro/TCWbasic/image3.asp).  I love the fact that he's got his saber gauntlet thingy, very cool looking weapon/accessory.

I'm not too thrilled with Dooku (http://www.rebelscum.com/sdcc08/Hasbro/TCWbasic/image13.asp) though.  Something about his overexaggerated nose/face just looks goofy to me.

Yeah, Plo Koon is probably my favorite of the line so far.  He's always been my favorite "background" Jedi, and I hope he gets a little more time (and some dialog) in the upcoming movie/series.  I'm definitely picking that figure up.  I like that he has the gauntlet dealio too, I wonder if that will be in the series as well?  Overall, the animated line doesn't really look too bad for what it is.

Dooku reminds me of those political puppets that were out in the 80's...  They had a TV show and were in Genesis' Land of Confusion video...

God I can't recall that thing's name but that Dooku really looks like one of those puppets.

Dooku is the most extreme looking of the animated ones, but I like him.  Won't get him, but I am looking forward in a huge way to my favorite PT alien Plo Koon.  Glad he turned out so well.

I actually really like Dooku, but Asajj is by far the best figure of this wave.

I think Plo Koon looks the coolest. ;D

JediInsider (http://jediinsider.net/g/index.php?mode=album&album=Hasbro%2FClone_Wars%2FFigures%2FWave_3&dispsize=600&start=0) has hi-res pics up of this wave.  That Plo Koon still looks all sorts of cool to me.

I plan on getting all in this wave except for dooku and the IG droid. The droid does not interest me at all and I have a feeling they will probably make another better dooku later on, this one just looks to wierd. Does anyone know if those blaster on the destroyer are removable? If so sign me up for 2 please ;D

D.C. Follies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C._Follies) here in the states.  I loved that show as a kid even though I had no idea what politics were.

Yeah, DC Follies...  Never saw the Spitting Image thing but that's definitely them, thank you.  They really remind me of the exagerrated looking Dooku.  I dig it, but it does almost seem like a departure from the rest of the animated characters in a way.

Odd that Dooku is shown with Sidious' lightsaber. Hopefully it was a mix up from the source as the previous high res image (http://www.galactichunter.com/photo.asp?image=absolutenm/articlefiles/7485-1.jpg) had the correct one pictured.

We've got some new images to check out...  I'm not sure if these are all from Wave 3 or not though.  Sadly I've not kept up with the animated line's wave breakdowns so I apologize if any aren't meant for this thread.  Fixed!

The Plo Koon is a Great looking figure there.  I'm not even into the line and that's just a neatly packaged figure.

I'm gonna get Plo for the gear regardless, but I think he's maybe the best figure in the line so far.

Hit a Target in MN yesterday and found 3PO and Ventress out. The guy in Electronics asked me if I wanted him to get the rest out of the back. I said yes and he got the whole series for me.

Or if they don't ignore you completely, they sigh loudly and get upset that you have interrupted their 8-hour break with a question about a product you want to buy.  Because, you know, Target isn't into the whole "selling items to customers" myth that retail has perpetuated for the last few hundred years.

Picked up a Plo Koon at my local Target today. He's badass. Glad to see the double lightsaber gauntlet actually make it as an accessory for a 3.75" figure.  :)

I've found these too, and this is the first group of CW guys I bought lots of.  My earlier resistance crumbled as I realized IG-86 is one of the best SW figs of the year.  Plo is Plo and that's cool by me.  And 3-PO turned out great.  Sigh.  I keep trying to get out, and they keep pulling me back in!

Bah. We're always going to buy some Star Wars toys. It's a lot easier when it's just a figure or two instead of a whole wave.

Picked up the Droideka and IG-86 today.  Pretty cool on both counts.  But I'm so swamped with the aftermath of moving houses that I don't think it's a great time to open these up just yet.

Found scads of this wave at Kohl's tonight. I picked up C-3PO and IG-86 for $6.79 each. I thought they were going to be $8.50 based on the sale sign, otherwise I would have bought more. I'll probably go back tomorrow and get the last three I need for the wave.

I also found the first three waves of Legacy there too.

I had a mailer for an extra 15% off on top of that so it made for a nice purchase.  No signs of Ventress though, but they had some Joes so that made up for it.

I got a chance to open these up, and I think this is my favorite wave so far from the Clone Wars figures.  As everyone has mentioned, the Plo Koon is all kinds of cool.  One of my favorite figures of the year, even without much leg articulation.  The Ventress is also pretty well done I thought, and Dooku - while under-articulated - still looks pretty good.  For some reason I really like the 3PO in this wave though.  I mean, no accessories and he's just a basic figure - but he's got nice articulation and seems like a solid figure overall.

I'm not really collecting the animated line, but IG-86 is badass!
Title: Re: IG-86
Post by: Jesse James on December 1, 2008, 11:31 PM
I have him waiting for me as a gift for X-Mas, but I looked at him, and he is indeed perhaps one of the more awesomely articulated figures in the modern line.  I wanted him with the thought that he looks like a fairly generic droid, perhaps a less sophisticated version of IG-88, and so he'd fit into my collection of realistic figures well enough.  I'll be reluctant to stop playing with the figure though.  He's great looking by all accounts.
Title: Asaaj Ventress-Good figure or not?
Post by: jedi_master_sal on December 4, 2008, 09:44 AM
While I'm not "collecting" the animated line. I am picking up a very FEW select figures because I like their look and/or I think they can integrate easily or well enough with the realistic line.

Asaaj Ventress is one such figure.

Other than the angular shoulders and the eyes looking animated, she fits in quite well with the realistic figures. The cloth dress really helps this figure, especialy with regards to poseability. The articulation of this figure is NEAR perfect. But for elbow joints, I'd say it is a perfect figure. Her hands are a bit tiny and at least with my figure it makes it a little hard for her to hold her sabers or Dooky holo display. Still, that is manageable.

If I were grading the figure over all I'd give it a 4.75 out of 5. But for the couple of points I mentioned, she's perfect.

So for those of you who have BOUGHT her, what do you think of the figure? If you've not released her from her cardboard prison, you're missing something here. At the least if you're a carded collector, I'd say this is ONE figure you should buy an extra of to open.

-Sal

I'm not collecting this line either. I've bought a Ashoka but that's about it. My girlfriend digs this one though and I've thought about picking it up since it seems to be hanging around a bit.

....I've thought about picking it up since it seems to be hanging around a bit.

Funny, the first time I saw this wave at all was over this past weekend.

Very cool figure though.  I'm being pretty selective with the Clone Wars figures I do get, so I don't think I'm picking her up.
Title: Re: Asaaj Ventress-Good figure or not?
Post by: DoctorPadawan on December 4, 2008, 06:57 PM
I think she's an excellent figure, and would go so far as to say she's my favorite Ventress figure that's been done.  Even though I would have liked elbow articulation, she can be put in a variety of poses and the sculpt is (as has been noted) such that she fits in with non-animated figures well.
Title: Re: Asaaj Ventress-Good figure or not?
Post by: Pete_Fett on December 5, 2008, 07:43 AM
I think she is the best Clone Wars figure yet. Up to this point, I felt that way about Ashoka. My next figure on that list would be IG-86. As others have pointed out all three of these figures could just as easily fit with the realistic line and I guess that's what I like about them the most.

About the only thing I would have want with both female figures is articulated elbows, but I blame that on the Lucas animation team form making the characters look like they're nothing but skin and bone w/o an ounce of musscle mass.

The Plo Koon figure was impressive, and his guantlet will be featured with TLC Wave 11 Plo Koon. Count Dooku's cape should have been soft-goods...it's just a big, goofy plastic cape. The Asajj Ventress figure was great, and she's just crammed with accessories. The Destroyer droid is barely articulated. The IG-86 droid and C-3PO are the most articulated of the wave.
