So does that Vader's TIE say "10th Anniversary Edition"? I love the retro 1999 packaging, too bad it looks like all they did was replace the blue parts with silver.

Just started getting into the LEGO world so I am very excited about these sets. The smaller sets are going to be a must. The bigger ones...well I'll have to see how the old wallet is doing at the time but I am hoping to get a few of them.

Anyone know what's up with LEGO?  The "big 3" in my neighborhoods have all pretty much been empty these last 2 months with no restock.  Is there a general release date year to year?  Guess I never really paid much attention until now.

Well, the first batch of 2009 sets hit TRU before Xmas.  They along with the rest of the Lego sets have sold out.  I started seeing the sets at Walmart again this week.  Give it a couple of weeks and they should be everywhere.  They are also on Lego.com if you are desperate for a Lego fix.

LEGO is something I've always been interested in getting into, but just haven't been able to because of the budget.  Those sets all look pretty spiffy, but I like the OT ones in particular.  As far as the more CW-centric ones, like you said, hopefully we get Hasbro versions of some of those.  I've still been on a quest to get LEGO minifigs of some of the main core characters of the OT, so I keep my eye out if they put out any affordable smaller sets that include any of those.  Either way, those sets look pretty nice.

The Y-Wing is insane looking.  Very big set.

The Hoth set is the kind of thing that almost sucks me back into LEGO...  Same with the Endor Bunker, but the Hoth set looks more army buildable.  That stuff just makes me wanna get into it all over again.

That would go great next to last year's Y-Wing.  Which was 454 pieces, if I read the box right this one has 567.  I bet most of those are in the body panels.  Some very cool sets coming this year...

The Lego Solar Sailor is the set, which I'm really the most anxious of getting.  Finally they made a peach-skinned Lego figure of Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus.

Still sucks that it doesn't have the sail and the fact that it's way overpriced doesn't help much either.

Sort of. To me, it looks more like the TRU Wampa Deco ARC-170 (http://www.yakface.com/Features/SDCC2008/hasbro/images/39.html) (note the horn) rather than the TSC "Space Whale" Gunship (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/tsc/exclusives/04.html) deco.

Wow!  Great looking set.  Am I reading the box right that its 1758 pieces.  That puts it in the $200+ range  :(  Still, I can dream right?  I wonder if the dropship is compatable with either of the AT-TE models, or is they used the AT-OT (that's this model IIRC) for balance reasons.  I'm hoping it was to add some variety to the clone walker fleet.

That Home One playset with Green Squad A-Wing is simply incredible looking.  Very cool photo Nick, and man that is the kinda stuff that almost sucks me back into Lego.  If I were rich I know this would be the first line I'd pick up above anything else.  SS SW military 12" figures would be a close second but their figures are a bit pricey so that still deters me from getting back into the Star Wars line at all. :(  LEGO just is such a cool innovative line I couldn't resist if I had the extra cash.

I've always been tempted by the LEGO sets as well (the OT ones in particular), and like you Jesse, if I had the money I'd be into those too.  I think it would be a fun line to collect and mess with, but for someone with a budget like mine, it would have to be all I collect (and even then I'd likely have to pick and choose).  Like I said though, the OT sets are always tempting (and I might break on that Echo Base set coming this year), but the cost keeps me away.  I've only ever picked up the MINI Falcon, but have thought about grabbing one of the larger sets to just give them a try.  One of this year's OT sets might be worth picking up.  Which ones are all on the way this year for sure, I remember seeing the Echo Base set, an Endor set, and the Home One set - but I didn't know if there were others.  It seems like the LEGO Toy Fair coverage is a bit tougher to find at some sites.

EDIT: I was just looking through some information at FBTB and they had a link to a grainy scan of a "midi scale" Falcon that might be on the way this year.  I'm totally unfamiliar with the different LEGO terms/sets, but I'm guessing that this might be a little bit more affordable (smaller) Falcon?  If so, this might be my first set.  I always wanted a Falcon, but really couldn't put down the cash for the larger versions.  Is there any more info on this set?

My word of advice to anyone who is especially on a budget - STAY AWAY.  I started collecting Star Wars in 2000 and managed to stay away from LEGO up until last year when I found a UCS Batmobile clearanced down to $20 (I needed a toy "fix" that day and this was just too good of a deal to pass up)  Eversince then I've been hooked and I know I've dropped over a grand on this stuff since last year, but I'm staying true to just Star Wars sets only.

I always thought that having Hasbro's version of everything was fine enough, but I was wrong.  Most of these sets are brilliant and have excellent play features - for the kid inside.  Not to mention all the ships that Hasbro is afraid of making.

This stuff is like crack.

I could definitely see it becoming addicting.  I'm sure LEGO collectors could have quite a set up at this point, with all the nice sets that have been released over the years.  That's one advantage that LEGO seems to have over Hasbro - nothing seems to be off limits.  Like you said, they do a lot of vehicles (and playset/environments) that Hasbro can't or won't touch.  I'm always tempted by them, but like I said, to get into them heavily I'd have to give up pretty much everything else (and probably sell a lot of it too).  The LEGO stuff doesn't exactly seem cheap.

Post by: skyward72 on March 11, 2009, 01:35 PM

I feel your pain.  I recently jumped onto the Lego bandwagon fulltime.  I have given up collecting Hasbro all together.  Here are some of the pros, Legos easy to find even just after release, Legos are only released twice a year for the most part making it easier to budget your money.  Of course the major downside is cost, you have some sets costing hundreds of $$$$.  If you are a completist it may be tough and very expensive to catch up.  Overall no toy line out right has quite the same collectable value a Lego set holds.  Once a set retires good luck finding it at MSRP

We've been talking these in the MN thread, but wasn't sure if it had been mentioned in the main Lego thread, but Target has a V19 Starfighter and Grievous' ship mini set for $4 in the Easter toy section if anyone is interested.

If this was already mentioned sorry for the repeat.

Target lately has had a bunch of cool, stocking stuffer sized star was items.  They usually have a selection of the single figure boxes in a couple themes (Space, Town, Castle), its just too bad that would be categorized as an action figure by LFL, otherwise I bet we'd get some cool like clonetrooper, or something sets.  I hope the trend of the mini-ships continues in Target's season area.  I haven't been able to pick up a ton of the mini ships, but I've always been happy with the ones I did find.

I saw the V-19 and Grievous starfighter MINI sets at our Target yesterday, and was tempted to pick one or both up.  I passed for now, as I always told myself I'd stick to the OT ones if I bought into this line more.  I sort of missed out on these the first time around, although I did pick up a Falcon at our local TRU towards the end of that line.  I hope to pick up the rest of the OT ones eventually, and wouldn't mind seeing them continue...like you said, even if its as Target seasonal items.  Really nice idea as an Easter basket/stocking stuffer/etc. type of item.

I saw these at Target today.  I almost missed them; they were in the bottom bin closest to the end cap in the Easter stuff area.  They were in plastic bags (not in a small carton like I would have guessed).  They also had some stuffed Vader toys and CW mini puzzles that came with Obi-Wan or Yoda Galactic Heroes figures.

That is correct that you can't get any adjustment on clearance and I'd be shocked if any of these SW LEGO sets make it to the day after Easter. I think collector's and parents will snatch these up before then.

Nice to see this officially confirmed now, even though it is a Wal-Mart exclusive.  I've always wanted to get a LEGO Falcon, but the other sets just proved too expensive at the time for me.  I might look into this, as it might be more affordable, but now I sort of hope they do more "midi scale" vehicles like the X-Wing, etc.  I'd like to build a few OT ships if possible, but I want to try to stick to one "scale".  It doesn't look too bad to me though, although I'm definitely not a LEGO expert.

It might have just been a mockup - or something we don't know yet and may not want to about the Falcon.  Vader's Tie came out not too long ago and it's in the black packaging so I dunno.  Sure is a tiny ship though at that many pieces or that's just one huge hand in the photo.  Might be a new direction LEGO is taking on certain ships so that's good for some folks.  Pass for me unless I can grab one on clearance which is highly unlikely.

Well they already made the UCS (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10019-1) version back in 2001.

It is possible that they are coming out with a regular version as well, though I haven't heard anything about it.

Saw the Echo Base set at TRU - $19.99 I think.  Also had the Venator for $129.99.  A little too expensive for my blood at the moment, but will pick it up when a sale hits.

Saw the new Hoth set at WM (the one with the TaunTaun).  I couldn't figure the real price though.  There was a shelf tag kind of below this set that was $11.86, but the name on the tag was "Star Wars Misc." or something and none of the numbers matched the box.  Next to this set were the CW battlepacks, with their tag that said $10.88, so I'm not sure what the $11.86 was for....  The price scanner said something like "please see an associate for assistance", and since it was 3 am and I wasn't going to buy anyway (my Wife asked me to get yogurt for our toddler, not toys for Daddy...) I didn't really want to deal with the night stocking crew..

It's $24.96 - same as the Corporate Alliance Tank.  Saw an endcap with both of them over the weekend.

Nice to hear that the new sets are starting to hit.  I think I might try to pick up the Hoth one if/when it hits locally and I have the money.  This will be my first true LEGO set purchase (aside from MINIs), so it is probably a road I shouldn't even go down.

On a side note, wasn't the "MIDI scale" Falcon supposed to hit Wal-Marts this month?  I haven't heard anything more about that since the article on SW.com mentioning it awhile back.  I was sort of hoping to grab this as well, because above all else I'd really like a LEGO Falcon.  I should probably just save up and get the big one if/when it is released again.

Nice looking anniversary edition Tantive IV.  I enjoy this line pretty much by looking and not owning these sets (if that's possible).  I'm sure they're real fun to put together and display, but I just don't have the cash or the time.  These sets are fantastic regardless.

I went to SDCC this year and saw the Tantive IV and can't wait to pick that set up.  I got home and found the TRU exclusive Home One set a few days later and I love that set, especially the A-wing launch function.  Getting an Admiral Ackbar minifig was the best part of it all though.

During my toyrun this morning, I saw the Special Edition CW Pirate Tank that includes Obi-Wan, Hondo Ohnaka and Turk Falso. It was with the Endor Bunker Set and the Republic Attack Cruiser. All of those sets look pretty cool I thought.

All the new sets look great, but the price went up on them. :-X

The only sets I will get are the Separatist Shuttle and the Endor Bunker. I'm still thinking about HOme One.

I saw the new mid-scale Falcon at our local WM today.  I really wanted to pick it up, as I've always wanted a LEGO Falcon and couldn't afford the bigger models at the time, but had to pass for now until I have some extra money.  Hopefully it won't be too tough to find.  I know if I grab it though, I'll be hoping they put out some more OT vehicles in this same "line", somewhat scaled to the Falcon.

I saw it today too for my first time Brian.  Too small for me and it seems very overpriced IMO, but the Midi stuff (hopefully there's more) seems like a great idea for most folks who are either late to the game or want a series of smaller/non minikit style ships.   :)

If anyone is interested, we got a WM ad this week saying that their exclusive "Mid Scale" Millennium Falcon will be on sale for $25 next week (down from $39).  I've got it on my Christmas list, as I've always wanted some sort of LEGO Falcon (aside from the Mini version), and haven't been able to afford the full size version(s).

Quite a few of my local WM's are sold out of the midi Falcon, but I scored one this morning and am pretty happy with it...well the box that is - no clue when I'll find time to put this together, but great price...especially with...oh nevermind.  good price.

Oh...My local Target had an entire endcap caked with Separatist Shuttles on Monday at $19, but were completely sold out by Thursday.  Nice sell through Target!

The few Targets I've visited over the past few days are pretty much wiped out of 09 LEGO.  Looks like I missed out on that Pirate Tank....Was waiting for a decent sale or clearance price, but looks like I missed the boat.  Oh well...   :-\  Hopefully it will come back like the Fighter Tank did, but I'm not holding my breath.
