I'm strongly considering going this year. I'll know if I can make it pretty soon, but I really hope I can because I've never been able to before.

I'm hoping to go too.   My children's book "Goodnight Goon" and the follow-up, "Runaway Mummy" will both be promoted at the show.   I'm hoping my publisher sends me out, as I've never been.

Title: 2009 SDCC Exclusives
Post by: Mikey D on April 1, 2009, 12:42 PM
Take it with a grain of salt due to today's date, but Mattel (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=67112&id=57309659843&ref=mf) has posted their 2009 SDCC Exclusives.  Hopefully these aren't an April's Fools Day joke...

MOTU - He-Ro
DCUC - Wonder Twins and Gleek
DCIH - Anti Monitor
JLU - Hal, Abin Sur, GL Sinestro 3pack
Ghostbusters - Spengler and Slimer
Cars - Rescue Squad Mater and Dalmation Mia & Tia
3-¾" Buzz Lightyear with official movie packaging

So Gleek is for attendees only and won't be available when ordered from mattycollector.  Unless I can beg someone going to the show to grab a set for me, I'm passing.  The Wonder Twins without the purple ******* monkey is like Fire without Ice or Hawk without Dove.  It's pointless.  Judging by the outrage on various message boards, Mattel is going to lose a ****-ton of money over this.

Who the hell knows, but there are more SW panels and giveways on that day than any other. if i had a choice that's the day i would go.last year they were giving away clone masks and that is the only day i didn't get one. more people dress up on that day.if your talking hasbro store yes they will be there but in the past stuff tended to run out but now they got wise and only sell/give a portion of the stock everyday...

All the big stores suck at the con. you have to get in line to get a ticket maybe for that day or the next to get in a line for an hour to get to pay an outrageous amount of money for a toy that might be sold out by the time you get to the front of the line. then the next day you can go on line and buy a dozen.

Hey gang, I know I haven't posted here in ages, so I'll understand compeletly if you tell me to take a hike, but I thought I'd take a shot, since I can't make it to SDCC this year.  I wanted to ask if anyone would be willing to pick up a freebie for me.  A freebie you don't have to preorder, pay for (obviously), stand in line for, or even ship to me after you get it.  You just have to stop by the booth and ask for it.

Please shoot me a PM if your willing and able to help an old-timer out.

Thanks!

I'm in. every time we go downtown and pass the convention center my son asks me to go to the con and i have to explain to him(3 year old) that it only comes once a year like a long birthday party. this will be his third official time. the wife was seven months pregnant the first time so he's actually been there 4 times.

Can I start begging now?

Due to Mattel's incredibly ******* stupidity, Gleek is only available at SDCC.  Since the Wonder Dorks are pointless without their stupid blue monkey, I need someone going to please grab me a Wonder Twins set with Gleek (the twins are boxed and the monkey comes in a bag).  I'll reimburse cost plus a bit extra for your trouble if someone manages to get the complete set.

Let me know if someone can help.

Thanks.

Check out THIS POSTING. (http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=34&s=259&ai=85106)  Apparently Comic Con may have outgrown San Diego.

Quote
Comic-Con Mulls Move from San Diego
Lunacy? Heresy? Sacrilege?
Common sense? Necessary? Just business?
According to a report in Variety, once again Comic-Con International: San Diego is toying with the idea of dropping the “San Diego” portion of its name and pulling up stakes in favor of Los Angeles or Las Vegas.
“We can't accommodate the people we need to,” Comic-Con marketing director David Glanzer complained to the entertainment industry journal. “(This year) we had a wait list of exhibitors in excess of 300. We sold out before the doors even opened.”
The convention, which began with about 300 people at a local hotel, has grown into a multi-media event around which Hollywood studios, toy companies, publishers and video game manufacturers plan major marketing pushes. More than 125,000 people have attended the last two shows.
“Yet as the event has exploded in popularity over the past decade, organizers have found it increasingly hard to ignore the logistical limitations presented by wrangling more than 125,000 attendees into the San DiegoConvention Center, where the show is booked through 2012. From fire-code violations to body-odor issues, overcrowding is the complaint on everybody's lips,” Gregory Ellwood wrote for Variety.
In addition to the size of the convention center, the relatively inexplicable hotel reservation system and the cost of hotel rooms took a beating in the feature.
Los Angeles, which reportedly made a big run at taking the con away previously, and Las Vegas, are again named as cities vying for the show. No mention is made of the extra expenses fans and exhibitors would incur as a result of those moves, such as rental cars and parking.

Hey, I don't doubt it.  I love the local toy show, which is small by comparison of course, but the BO factor is off the number chart and into the "holy ****, i gotta change aisles" category at times.

I think it's a hazard of the hobby though, unfortunately.
