Title: JediDefender 2003 Fantasy Football!
Post by: Scott on July 8, 2003, 11:48 AM
There are a bunch of free Fantasy Football sites out there and I have tried this before and it has never, ever worked but thought I'd give it another chance to see if anyone would want to play

Ideally I'd like 8 people...first come first serve and we could probably have up to 12.  Let me know here and if not I can try again next year and just play in my real world league ;)

Count me in. That would be fun. I never played fantasy football before but have always meant to get into it.

Count me in too, Scott.  Strictly bragging rights only, correct?

Yeah Bragging Rights Only...which means we will have to sacrifice on a few things, namely the "draft" most free sites you get to rank your players at each position and then you get who you get.

I would love to play so count me in.  How do you play your fantasy football Scott?  I've always played mine through Yahoo.  I have found them to be the best out on the Internet, and that's who I've used for the last 4-5 years.

CBS Sportsline, We've Used it for the past 2 years and like it a lot.

http://pearljammers.football.sportsline.com/

We have to pay for it though and it is part of the league fee.  We don't play for mega big bucks either, I think the winner usually takes home around $150.  More for the fun of it all.

I have the #3 pick this year, trying to decide between Williams, Tomlinson, Faulk and Portis.  2 of the four will be there so I will probably be picking between Faulk and Portis and am leaning toward Portis but have a soft spot for Marshall

I just created a Yahoo Fantasy Football league.  I have put on it to have a maximum number of 12 teams.  So, if you love playing fantasy football please join this league.  It's absolutely free!   :)

Here are the details in regards to joining this league...

In order to join, just go to http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1, click on the Sign Up button, choose to "Join an Existing League" and then to "Join a Custom League." Then, when prompted, enter the following information...

League ID#: 23839
Password: yoda

Live Draft Date: Saturday, July 26 at 9:45 pm CDT (if you can't make it at that time just pre-rank your players, and your players will be picked based on your ranking of them)

UPDATE:
We're currently thinking about making this an "Autopick" draft, so that the draft could take place just before the beginning of the season.

I'm about 99% sure that I won't be able to make the draft.  I'm a little confused about pre-ranking of players.  If I leave it alone, my players will be picked based on the default settings and the highest ranked player available will be added to my team, right?  Do they pick QBs first, WRs second, etc. or can any one be picked at any time?  I assume the latter, like a "real" draft.

I'm thinking I might just leave the default settings and "wing" it and see what I come up with.
Title: Re: JediDefender Fantasy Football Anyone?
Post by: Scott on July 16, 2003, 12:46 PM
Chris and I have had a few discussions on this topic...

I would prefer to wait until the end of August to draft.  This way you aren't screwed when you #1 players goes down in Training Camp or Pre-Season

I also am in favor of having a non-live draft so none of us really need to be there if that is the case and we can just all rank our players accordingly

Thoughts? :-*

Title: "Autopick" or "Live" Drafting???
Post by: dustrho on July 16, 2003, 12:56 PM
Here's my take on the drafting situation...

-- If everyone wants to do a "live" draft then we have to settle with doing the draft on July 26th at 9:45pm CDT.  Yahoo has set times and dates you can choose from to schedule your draft, but unfortunately the majority of those "live" drafting time slots are already filled.  The absolute latest date I can schedule is the one that I chose.

-- If we all want to do the draft just before the beginning of the season, then we have to choose the "Autopick" option.  This is where you pre-rank your players, and based on those pickings players will automatically be picked in the specific draft order.

I would strongly encourage everyone to vote for the "Autopick."  Lets do a vote.

VOTING RESULTS: 7-0 in favor of "Autopick" Draft

AUTOPICK DRAFT...
DUSTRHO Destruction
OCB (I'm right with that choice, right Scott?)
Reconsgt
Sith Bounty Hunter
Mikey D

LIVE DRAFT...

I'm with the auto pick as my computer at home is junk. I can only really be on at work so i will probably miss any live draft.

Also since I am new to this so could someone PM me on how to set some functions up.

Autopick for me.  Gives us more time to pre-rank our players too.

if u can scedual it for sometime next week or after Augest 17 i choose live but if not auto pick

SBH, the latest date that is available to choose from is July 26th.  There were only so many available dates to choose from.  That's Yahoo's doing... not mine.  Doing the draft next week is too early.  So, I put you down for "Autopick" then.
Title: Re: JediDefender Fantasy Football Anyone?
Post by: chuckles on July 16, 2003, 04:22 PM
Put me down for the autopick too. I am in a fantasy baseball league thru yahoo and that is how we did our draft. Works very slick if you go thru ahead of time and make sure your preranked players are where you want them to be on your list.

It will also take no time at all to do it this way. It could have taken a while for all of us to be sitting there and deciding who we want to pick thru several rounds of this draft.

Plus, when it's done, it's cool to take a look at your team after the draft and see who all you ended up with.  8)

Title: Re: JediDefender Fantasy Football Anyone?
Post by: dustrho on July 16, 2003, 06:21 PM
Majority rules for doing the draft as "Autopick."  Now we just need to schedule a date to have this finalized.  Scott, what day do you think is best to have this take place?  Whenever we're ready to have the auto-draft happen, I just have to flick a switch and the teams will then be generated.

NOTE TO ALL -- Just make sure you have your pre-rankings set the way you want before the chosen date.

Surprisingly, I've never done Fantasy Football before.  Just never really wanted to jump into all the madness in the past, I guess.  So what's the deal with this one?  How does it work?  Most importantly, will I actually have to use my brain for anything?  LMK, and I'll consider tossing my butt into the ring.  But I don't want to hear everyone crying if "L.A." winds up winning another championship here in this thing...   8)   :-*

But I don't want to hear everyone crying if "L.A." winds up winning another championship here in this thing...   8)   :-*

Too bad L.A. doesn't have an NFL football team.   :-*

Anywho... Matt, playing fantasy football is pretty easy.  If you go to their website you'll be able to read the rules.  You basically first pre-rank your draft order (players you would like to get on your team).  The draft takes place and all you have to do is adjust your starting lineup every week, so that you have players who are actually playing that day.  Your players will start earning points for you based on their weekly performance.

So, I think you should join Matt.  It's really not that hard to learn and is a lot of fun to play.  If you need any help I'd be more than happy to help you out.

Touche, Matt.

Gruden just this morning said that if T. Bay won the big one again this year, he'd dance on a busy Tampa highway in nothing but a jockstrap. Bad visual, good for a laugh though.

After giving it some thought, I may just join. Question is, it is legal for some of us to be using the same players, and are we going to avoid roster stacking?

I'm not saying I am going to just take the entire Bucs starting offense per se, but like B.J at QB, Vicious at TE, and Alstott at FB, with Todd Steussie, Matt Birk, etc to fill out the rest?

Every team will have different players.  One specific player cannot be on different teams.  Is that what you were asking about Cory?
Title: Re: JediDefender Fantasy Football Anyone?
Post by: JediMAC on July 28, 2003, 10:24 PM
Touche, Matt.

 ;)

So Chris, are we drafting our own players, or is there an automatic draft?  I think I heard that's what was happening earlier on in here.  But like I said, how much brainwork and time's gonna be involved?  Will I really have to be adjusting my roster every week, and all that, 'cause I just don't know if I'm going to have the time to be doing all that this season...

Problem is, when I do something (like this), I go totally all-out agro...  I get way too much into it, and it just becomes one more thing that I wind up spending way too much time stressing over - like making sure I've got the perfect roster every weekend, researching all the players stats, etc., etc...  So that's pretty much the reason I've always avoided stuff like this.  I've got a lot of friends who play it and love it, but they must spend like 20 hours a week doing stuff regarding it...

I dunno...  When's the deadline to join?
Title: Re: JediDefender Fantasy Football Anyone?
Post by: dustrho on July 29, 2003, 12:44 AM
Well, you will be pretty much involved in it, but it's not like you're going to spend hours & hours setting it up every week.  I think you should join.

The draft will be automated, and will happen sometime just before the start of the season (mid-August).  All you have to do is pre-rank your players for the draft.  Actually, Yahoo and KFFL have already pre-ranked players for you.  If you want to do any changes to the pre-rankings you may do so.

Any other questions... just let me know.   8)

Come on Matt (and Brent) easy as pie and fun to do, plus you can join in on the smack talk

OK, my dillema

I have the #3 pick in my draft which is Saturday (don't ask...I'm pissed it is this early)

I am expecting to have a choice between

Tomlinson
Williams
Holmes
Faulk
Portis

I think Tomlinson and Williams will go #1 and #2 leaving me a choice between Faulk, Holmes and Portis...I'm leaning Portis but don't want to pass on Holmes, what to do, what to do....

Come on Matt (and Brent) easy as pie and fun to do, plus you can join in on the smack talk...

I'll be talking smack regardless...  You know that!   ;D   :-*

I suppose if there's already some pre-ranking set up, and I don't have to use my brain at all, I'd do it.  I'm just usually too busy or lazy come weekends to want to deal with analyzing and messing with my roster.  So the less brain power and involvement, the better chance I'll hop in on the action...

Title: Re: JediDefender Fantasy Football Anyone?
Post by: Scott on August 12, 2003, 03:08 PM
We had our draft last weekend...first round went like this

#1 Tomlinson
#2 Williams
#3 Portis
#4 Faulk
#5 Owens (???)
#6 Holmes
#7 McAllister
#8 Alexander

Pretty RB heavy, I took Portis but then shipped him to the owner of Holmes for the 3rd pick in round #2 and a fourth rounder, I also gave up the #6 pick in Round #2 and a 6th rounder.  I took Culpepper in Round #2...the rest of my line-up

QB: Culpepper
RB: Holmes
RB: George
WR: Horn
WR: Price
TE: Sharpe
K: Elam
D: Atlanta or NE

SO I am pretty happy right now, if Holmes is healthy, I have a good chance to take it all baby! :-*

Not exactly sure when the draft would be.  Once I set the Auto Draft feature to go live, then everyone needs to put their teams on "ready."  Once that is done a date will generate when the draft will commence.

Is everyone here ready?  Do we want to get a couple more people to join?  LMK.

I have set it up for Autodraft, and here's what it says then... "Your autopick draft will be completed sometime between now and Friday, September 5 at 11:59 pm PT."  Lets hope it choose sooner than that.

Draft happened.  I didn't pre-rank any players and just decided to wing it based on the pre-rankings.  I didn't do too bad.  Brad Johnson's my main QB and I got LD from San Diego and both Pittsburgh wideouts (Plexiglass and Heinz)

I was just glancing at other team's players and Wayne looks like he got screwed.  Both Pennington (likely out for the year) and Vick (out 6 weeks).  Looks like you have to make do with Scott's favorite player ;) until Vick comes back.  I don't know when GB's bye is, so you might be ok while the weary rests.

I think there's a problem with yahoo.  It says I'm 0-0-1 when it should be 2-0-0.  I think everyone's records are f'ed up.

I picked up Bledsoe off waivers before the week started and was suprised he was sitting there.  The Bills love to throw the ball, so I'm expecting many 300+ yard games out of him and the TDs to go with them.

And Jamal Lewis :o 295 rushing yards, picked up a few points on that one ;)

I noticed that later in the week Mikey, it looks like I got an extra point somehow and we ended up tying...not sure how and if it can be changed or checked to see what happened, such is life in free FF:-\

I killed dustrho, man, you might as well fold up shop Chris :-*

As far as Bledsoe, I dumped him because I already had Manning and Culpepper and I'd rather have a position player, but then Wayne cut Vick and I had to pick him up...Manning will be on the block when Vick comes back ;)

I have Donovan McNabb, who should be having an awesome season, but he sucks right now.  Steve McNair, who should be another QB having a good season, is hurt.  Randy Moss isn't doing that great right now.  It's an odd year so far, because on four of my Yahoo teams (including this one) I have great players, players who excelled last year, but they're not doing squat this year (so far).

Time to start releasing the hounds!

I noticed some minor changes as well. Lastnight, with only the Sunday night game left to play and neither me nor the team I was playing having any players in it, I was down by like 12.9 pts according to stattracker. Yet this morning, I'm only down by 7. Not sure where that difference came from and I'm not even sure where the tenths of a point come from during the Sunday games, only to disappear the following game. The only thing I can think of is they make minor mistakes during the up to date scoring during Sunday and then correct those Monday when the official stats have been released.

I do know this, I'm looking pretty good to come from behind and win this week as well. Only down 7 with 4 players and a defense playing tonight while my opponent only has 1 player. It's no gimme, but odds are looking pretty good for me being the only 2-0 team in the standings.  8)

Chris...is there any way to increase our roster size?  With the byes starting and having so many starters you aren't allowed to bench anyone and get zeroes for that week ???

It looks like I'll be 2-0-1 (man that tie pisses me off.  Scott you got lucky on that one ;)) after this week.  The Swamp Dragons are laying the smackdown on all comers.  Your up next Chris, your Destruction is going to get destroyed.

After a disappointing loss last week, I'm back on track with a good old fashioned ass whipping to Scott's Ancient Smug Bastards :-*

Next week should hurt because of players on bye teams.

You're actually ahead of me now.  I'm in a slump with a two game losing streak.  Oh well, just have to break out of it next week against Chris.

I can't believe I haven't bragged about my team more...how can I truly be the OCB if I don't live up to OCB status  ???

The nice thing is that I am also in 1st place in my money league, Culpepper and Holmes have been animals!

My running back crew isn't too shabby either:  Ladainian, Jamal Lewis, Fred Taylor and Stephen Davis.  But you're probably right, we'll end up tieing again.

Just a bump to put this on page 1.  I'm sitting in third with a winning record, so I'm not doing too bad.  Scott looks to be pulling away slightly.

Last week of the regular season this week...I think I clinched the #1 seed.  Big game vs Jim this week, just to show my domination :-*

JD.com Super Bowl coming up, me and chuckles (where are you BTW)

I also won my other Fantasy Football league this weekend (we don't have playoffs...my team was:

QB: Culpepper
RB: Holmes
RB: E. James
WR: Horn
WR: Mason
TE: Sharpe
K: Elam
D: Patriots

I am 13-2 with two games left, total and utter domination!
