Title: Hasbro's Celebration V VIP Ticket Contest
Post by: shmashwitdaclub on May 11, 2010, 04:50 PM
I didn't know where else to put this - and I haven't seen it posted on anywhere else yet so I thought I would share with you what I found while hunting today.  sorry if ths isnt new news

This is a new sticker that all of the Legacy figures have on them at my local Walmart in Mishawaka, IN.  They were not on the figures yesterday so I am thinking a Hasbro rep went in and slapped 'em on (which makes me question how I can instantly win on figures that were already in the store).

Anyway, I peeled the sticker off so I could share with you all - I took a picture of a figure with the sticker on the packaging in store but it came out crappy so I just decided to scan in the sticker I took.  When I removed the sticker you can see the mail away promo peeled off the package and is stuck onto the new sticker.

edit:  fyi incase it matters - all of the figures were that had stickers were Legacy ESB wave - none of the clone wars or saga legends had stickers.

edit x2:  just went to the website http://hasbro.promotions.com/swpromotix/page.do?page=splash.html and it is up and running

I heard and read reports on this too. Hasbro store reps have been seen putting these stickers on old product that would have been on shelves well before this promo was announced, so there would be ZERO chance you could win by purchasing that product. Pretty shady if those reports are true. I say buyer beware.

So whether or not you win is supposed to be inside the bubble?!?

Well, since the stickers aren't on the EU wave and the EU wave was the last run of figures, then putting these stickers on anything at a WalMart, Target, K-Mart, etc... would be nothing more than fraud.

From the rules:

Look for winning game pieces inside specially-marked Hasbro STAR WARS BUILD A DROID FIGURES, STAR WARS STARFIGHTER VEHICLES, STAR WARS COMIC PACKS and STAR WARS BATTLE PACKS products at participating retail locations from May 7, 2010 through July 26, 2010 or while supplies last, whichever occurs first.

Thanks Jayson - YES, I can read.

But to me, it would be equally valid if there was a code or something on the underside of the sticker and if you peeled off the sticker that would destroy the code so the only way to look at the code under the sticker was to remove the bubble and look through the clear bubble to the underside of the sticker.

Then TECHNICALLY it would be looking "inside".

Sorry, my emphasis on "inside" wasn't directed at you Pete. It was meant to illustrate that the offer would/should be packed inside the product and unless stores have received a new stock and replaced their current stock, anything with stickers on it now in nothing but a bait and switch.

It does say "No purchase necessary", too. So we just got to the website and try out luck?

Edit: It looks like you can request a game piece via snail.

Well - I went to the TRU near where I work on the way home tonight and sure enough - EVERYTHING that didn't have a TRU exclusive sticker on it was stickered with this offer.

It is totally a bait-and-switch move on Hasbro's part and it would be great if someone called them on it.

The only thing they didn't sticker was the Blue/White Evolutions sets that are still hanging around here.

I guess the idea is that if you open up the item and there's no "game piece" you can always go to the website and send away for a chance to win.

Pretty cool offer.  Would be nice to know for sure where the winning notification is located.  If it really is just on the back of the sticker, then it makes sense to sticker the older items.  You would need to open plastic bubbles to see it.  However, if these are being put on things like vehicles or on parts of the card where you can't view the back or if the notification is something different, then it is totally a sham.  Will be interesting to see how this unfolds...

My contact at TRU confirmed the Hasbro rep was by yesterday slapping stickers on the old product. Not figures, but a couple of starfighters...some them at lunch myself today. What a crock.

As soon as I saw that ad last night for the CV tickets I was wondering how they expected it to work since Hasbro really isn't shipping anything new from now till the end of the promo.  They don't have any action figures, BPs or Starfighter vehicles scheduled and the comic line is over.

Someone needs to kick Hasbro in the ass over this one.  It's ******' retarded.

I thought the same thing when I saw these. How the frig is this supposed to work?  I think Hasbro will become the repackers we so despise. Maybe they will shove in the golden ticket in a Willrow Hood package. (They should have specifically used this promo on Yarna. That would have cleared the shelf.)

One thing is certain any MOC ocd collectors have just been shut out until Vintage. This sticker kills the package.

Hasbro's response to the CV Sticker issue: (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5432&start=30#p84081)

Quote
"Winning tickets were placed in stickered packages of both old and current waves of Star Wars Droid Factory, Battle Packs, Comic Packs and Starfighter Vehicles. The winning packages were then hand-delivered to stores and mixed at random with stickered packages without winning tickets. When you buy a stickered product, old wave or current wave, whether you receive a winning ticket or not is purely a matter of chance."

I call BS, but at least they addressed the issue.  Will be nice to see though if there's actually some winners out of this promo in the end.

My contact at TRU swore he saw the Hasbro Rep literally slapping the sticker on one of the boxes ALREADY ON THE SHELF.

I don't see why he would lie, so I tend to think this is all BS on Hasbro's part. EPIC SHADY.

That doesn't really contradict was Hasbro is saying.

Hasbro reps are placing the stickers on existing/qualifying merchandise then they'll shuffle in a few (that they bring to the store special) with stickers and actual game pieces inside.

It would be interesting to know if the Hasbro reps that received product actually received several pieces that weren't winners or if the ten winning packages were sent out by themselves along with a roll (or sheet, or whatever) of stickers for the rep to randomly stick on existing product.

In other words, did all Hasbro reps receive a box of stuff with stickers already applied and one of them may or may not actually have a winning ticket or did only the 10 winning products go out to up to 10 randomly selected reps around the country?

I'm just wondering if you walk into Target, for example, and suddenly find one stickered action figure from a wave that's been long gone, such as an Utai from the ROTS wave, along with stickers on all the other stagnant product, did you just find a winner?  In the end it doesn't matter how they did this because the chances of finding a ticket are so remote it's not even worth an extra trip to the store.

It's also not important, really, how Hasbro explains how the winning tickets got into circulation because it's still another kick in the teeth to see Leia/Xizor packs with these stickers on them anyway.  Wouldn't it be a cruel, cruel joke if Hasbro actually sent out a couple of winning tickets in Leia/Xizor packs?  Or in an Admiral Yularen from the CW line?  My Target has 2 Leia/Xizor packs and over 14  Yularens on the shelf...

Considering that the two stores next to me have had the same figures for several months, and suddenly some of them have stickers on them (still showing the same dust/wear as before) would have me agreeing that this was poorly thought out at best, and downright misleading at worst. Yes the odds are infinitesimally small to begin with, but that is still better than the zero chance you get when they are putting promo stickers on old product that was produced and distributed months before the prize pieces were introduced to the line. If I were still buying their product, I would probably consider it a bigger kick in the shorts.

I hear Philip Wise is doing the same contest with the Lt. Renz mini-busts. He will be sending stickers to everyone that originally bought one because he knows they are still mint in box.

LOL, it's one of the top 10 SW collectible duds of all time! I want to buy one because it's so pathetic it's downright funny. $15 shipped is all I will pay. I wonder if they look at best offers.....

As I mentioned earlier unless Hasbro became repackers this is really a BS promo, there is no way this can be legit. Now looking at it from another spectrum if it clears the shelves for new product I am willing to look the other way and not make a stink because it helps keep the line healthy. Keep the price low, add a contest incentive and we will  have room for new product.

Saw a Hasbro rep putting stickers on product today at a local WM. All he did was put stickers on the TLC figures, the lone Endor battle pack, and the pegs of 3 year old Imperial Officer Disguise Luke/Chick comic packs. Even if there are any actual winning packages out there, you'd think Hasbro would at least have the decency to only put stickers on the red/white Legacy merchandise, not the blue/white 2008 packaging and especially not the 30AC packaging. That's just insulting my intelligence.

My favorite thing I have seen so far today was at Walmart - not the one I normally go to.  I walked down to the Star Wars aisle to find that all of the TLC figures have been tagged with this sticker - Even the Episode 1 Panaka "repacked" on Typho card has been hanging there sticker-less for the past month....

I saw these stickers all over figures at our local WM - and they seem to be the same figures that have been there for months now already.  It seems that the rumors of Hasbro reps putting stickers on old stock may be true.
Title: Re: Hasbro's Celebration V VIP Ticket Contest
Post by: efranks on May 21, 2010, 03:29 PM
I don't think there was ever doubt that old product was being stickered, the doubt was in how Hasbro actually distributed winning tickets since there was no new product scheduled to ship outside of the EU wave at TRU.

I do think that having Hasbro reps distribute old product seeded with 10 winning tickets is kind of ******, though.  While some stores do have very low stock of pretty much all the SW lines right now, a store slammed with 100+ Saga Legends figures certainly doesn't need any more old stock clogging up the works, winning tickets or not.

If I were a manager covering toys in a store with a lot of stagnant stock and a Hasbro rep showed up with a box full of "more of the same," I might issue them a significant ration of **** to be reported back up their chain of command.

I have not seen these anywhere. The ONE time I THOUGHT I saw one of these was at a Target, and I saw a peculiar sticker on an Endor BP... turned out to be a sticky label ripped off a candy product and mysteriously slapped onto this BP. Wow. ???

I'm seeing them regularly now at WM/Targets I visit for usual shopping...  Not much else to say other than I've seen them on anything from 1st Day of Issue Yarna figures to blue-packaging comic and battlepacks, to fairly current figures like Bespin Refresh Wave Scanner Techs (which I bought the other day).

I'd say a lot of whether you see them or not has to do with how often Hasbro reps hit that area.  They don't hit all the stores near me, or at least hit some of them very very infrequently compared to the more busy areas I visit.
