Title: Celebration V
Post by: Scott on August 11, 2010, 09:37 AM
So, I'm not there and chances are most of you aren't either...anyone have a schedule as to when Hasbro has a presentation...when the show opens etc?

I'd expect to see AOTC and maybe the first 2011 Wave (TPM?)

Yeah, I wish I could go, but I'll definitely be following along with stuff online as much as possible.  I'm wondering what we'll see that's "new" as well.  I'm sure we'll finally get the reveal of the Slave 1 set, which at this point has already been found at retail.  Like you said Scott, I'd guess the AOTC wave, and then a peek at 2011.  I can't remember for sure, but do the "themed" waves go away after AOTC?  I thought originally they said next Fall, but then later updated that in a Q and A saying that this year's offerings would be the last one.  I guess we'll find out in a day or two.  I was curious when the Hasbro presentation was going to be as well.

Ryan and I were going to go until it was annouced that it would be in Florida. That completely killed our plans for a sequal to our Ultimate Group Project diorama. If it was in Chicago or LA it would have happened. This version was going to dwarf C4's version in size. We even talked about having the biggest collection of imperial troops ever assembled for a convention in the middle of the diorama. It would have been amazing!

I'm hoping for a sneak peek at the next 1-2 (or maybe even 3) waves of TVC for 2011, same for TCW. I just hope though that Hasbro's slideshow panel isn't 99.9% of the one used in SDCC.

I see on Scum's preview pictures they have some neat dioramas set up for the Hasbro stuff...  A large Bespin Gantry that features a funny "hidden" glimpse of what our very own ICMG was up to I guess.

I thought the Ryloth Bridge scene from Clone Wars was particularly well done.

They also had a Hoth display that may (or may not, I didn't really look it over) be the same from SDCC.

Post by: darth broem 2 on August 12, 2010, 09:04 AM
I think it will be mostly what they showed at the SDCC with a few more things like the AOTC wave like Scott said.  I am hoping for some sneak peak stuff from the ANH wave but I don't expect it.  I suppose they may show carded figures from the ROTJ wave?

I am just not getting my hopes up as far as new reveals go.  It will primarily just be showcasing stuff that is out now or in the very new future we have already heard about or seen.

But hey if they want to announce they are making a Sail Barge feel free to do so Hasbro  ;D

Is it too early to be disappointed already?  ;D

I'll be curious to see more photos from today, but the initial galleries on Sandtroopers last night were totally underwhelming. All I saw was crap that has been leaked for months...the Carnie/Fixer comic pack, Vintage Wave 2, Slave 1, etc.

I know there will likely be more out than what has been pictured to this point, so I am cautiously optimistic, but bracing for a letdown.

Where's the HMP? Cato Parasitti? Undead Geonosian?

I guess the best hope is that the slideshow gets updated from SDCC and they actually show off some stuff from next year.

I think we could see a couple of new waves. Up to ANH at least. I'm expecting a nice surprise or two.

Tomorrow! I do not expect to be surprised but I expect to see that wave in pictures at the very least. When Hasbro said they were going to hold some items back I am sure they had this wave and the leaked Slave One in mind at a minimum. I am hoping there is at least 1-2 unknown exclusives and or a preview of next year. If none of that happens I must say it would be underwhelming. Let the bitching start (if warranted) after the slide show tomorrow.

They really should have saved the big guns for the all SW show but we must have Jedi patience until then.

This is Hasbro's last chance to showcase a sneak-peek into 2011. And they always (at least usually) have something to show off for the next year. Here's to hoping they don't disappoint... again. ::)

Whew.

A smattering of "new" in the presentation - Vintage AotC Wave, TRU Enor Pilot 4-packs, CW Jedi Turbo Speeder, CW Wave 5, some new GH 2-packs and GH AT-ST, Vintage 9-pack.

Not exactly awe-inspiring amount of new stuff, but at least there were a few surprises in there...  and disappointing that we didn't get the Vintage AotC wave AND a peek at Wave 5 (whatever that ends up being). :(

Post by: Jesse James on August 13, 2010, 03:02 PM
Yeah, that's weird eh?  2010's not completely shown, but 2011 sneak preview! :)

I was hoping to see those as well since I'd like ot know what we're waiting on here...  Those AOTC figures are glorious.  I've wanted Zam forever, and that Anakin and Padme rock.  And Mace appears to be actually poseable at the legs now.  A day long remembered.

I thought the Pilot sets looked amazing too, and I'm real curious who the Impy's are?  Could we get Maarek Steele?  The Imperial ace from TIE Fighter?  They have given us Keyan Farlander now, so why not Steele from the equally popular game?  I'm also curious who the other Rebels are other than Grizz Frix.  "Ace" Azzameen perhaps?

Incredible stuff we did see...  Nice keeping up with it Jeff, as I'm not sure many were able to.

Just taking in all the info here, and seeing some of the slides at JediInsider...everything shown looks good.  The AOTC wave in TVC looks great, and that line in general continues to impress.  Some nice surprises on some of the exclusive stuff, and I think the CW stuff looks pretty nifty too.  I am a little disappointed we didn't get more of a "peek" at 2011, I guess I didn't consider the AOTC wave 2011.  I thought they would have had a little more to show at the big Celebration, but what was shown looks great.

Hasbro has redeemed itself BIG from SDCC - this is indeed a glorious day.

Nobody would have ever predicted that upcoming Target Vintage 9-pack.

As for the basic figure lines, we may have long known what figures were going to be in the waves, but to actually see them is enough to make someone jump in surprise. Just look at that Zam Wesell. *tear of joy*

The only things that are making me huff and puff right now are those insane street dates - the AOTC wave in 2011??!!

Post by: Jesse James on August 14, 2010, 03:23 AM
So, C5's Hasbro shindig wrapped up and I must say I'm surprised at the lack of stuff they showed us...

Adam May's sneak pics of the conceptual designs for Evazan and Secura were among the biggest teases.  The show's teasers for 2011 were cool though, but few.  There just wasn't much beyond what SDCC showed.  I guess this goes to show how too many shows in a year waters things down.  Toy Fair was really the big event for 2010, and these last two shows kind of got the heave-ho.

I question how much of a "big reveal" Slave-I was going to be as well...  It isn't even a mainline item.  I think Hasbro maybe struggled to even sell this since it's winding up an exclusive.  And at the price it's coming in at, I can see why.  You get some stuff in the set for sure, but it's sort of a disappointment to me I guess.

I loved the AOTC wave, and I really love seeing the ROTJ wave again...  They're just that good.

The lack of more 2010 stuff though and a fairly limited 2011 peak is just leaving me wondering what's being hidden.

I love the pilots, and a second chance on getting Yavin Hangar sleds & techs, but I'm left looking around hoping for more stuff.  :-\  I want more stuff!

Maybe leaving them wanting more is their strategy?  They acheived it if that's the goal. :)

They've been talking about this year being a downsized year, and I think this is just what it looks like... only 27 new basic figures is half of what everyone is used to.

Yeah, I don't know about the "big reveal" of Slave I either.  Sure, a lot of it is that it got leaked awhile back (with really nice pics), but like you said, it isn't even a main line item.  I'm sure they have their reasons, but with the pricepoint being so high ($100), I don't know why they couldn't have just had the new Slave I as an exclusive on its own.  Heck, throw in a couple figures (Fett, Bossk, or whoever) if you need to, but was the whole thing with Mace's ship really necessary?  I'm torn on whether to pick it up or not.  I want the Slave I and the Bossk quite a bit, and another astro droid is always cool, but I could take or leave the rest I guess.  I like the upcoming mainline Fett a bit more, and the rest is basically repacks and a repaint.

Well, I feel somewhat placated at least...this was a lot more of what I was expecting out of SDCC. Got sneak peeks at Cato, Undead Geonosian, and the HMP, plus a few new surprises like the Jedi Turbo Speeder and that Droid Tri-Ship. (Why is no one talking about thing? It is monstrously cool...am I to assume this was already released years ago with some kind of different paint job? It looks all new to my eyes)

I wonder how long it will actually take the Slave 1 to hit here on the East Coast, we seem to be several weeks behind the rest of the country.

Title: Re: Celebration V

I think Hasbro did a great job! There were plenty of 2011 sneak peeks - some which even we didn't foresee (Vintage 9-pack, Yavin Sled...etc.), and we usually always know what's about to come up!

I think Hasbro's "big reveal" of the new Slave 1 was pathetic, really. They already had it up on display before the slideshow, and the slide itself showing it didn't have any special commentary or anything.

I have to agree with you on the Slave One reveal. It was quite sad, they just put it out as Sandtroopers destroyed any surprise or intrigue with their in depth photo gallery.

The only thing that kind of surprised me was that they did not show the entire ROTJ wave carded.  They only showed the Endor Soldier.  I guess I know what the cards will look like from 1983 but you know what I mean.

It looks like Curto has posted Part 1 (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/CV_Exclusive_Hasbro_Interview_Part_1_133435.asp) of an interview with Hasbro at CV, with a few more details on the line.  It looks like, at least now, for 2011 the Vintage Collection will consist of 39 figures (7 of which would be refreshes).  Also, it sounds like we'll get a look at the first wave of 2011 (after the AOTC wave) in the next round of Q and A's (not sure when that is).  Also - at least for now - it looks like Bespin Han is confirmed for 2011, but we've heard that before too.  Mixed waves will start after Wave 4 (AOTC).  More at the linky, and it sounds like a podcast is on the way as well.

listening to the forcecast CV part 2 right now.  So far it sounds like maybe the first wave in 2011, immediately following the release of the AOTC wave (perhaps within a week or two) will be the first mixed wave.  It sounds like this wave will have figures from 5 out of the 6 films - and I thought I gathered ANH was the missing film...

sticking to OTC vehicles?

looking to do a new A-wing, was really close to having a new EU version this fall as exclusive but retail pulled out.  Actually 2, a ROTJ version.  but the retailer decided not to.  put back in parking lot.

very close to updated y-wing. maybe next year.  updated cockpit and fit protocol droid

kitster and wald perhaps in 2012? they could fit on vintage card perhaps in 2 packs.  also Twilek massuses (sp?).  Both hopeful 2 packs keep getting cut from the lineup.

consider a new TPM Anakin - but are still pretty satisfied with what is out.

6 waves in 2011 - as of now 39 figures. some waves may have only 4 figures, and they don't like that - trying to rework it.  some may have 10 figures.

Greivous outsold Vader last year.

it sounds like there will be a second TRU exclusive deluxe set to go along come out with the rebel technician/transport thing.  it will be a CW item.

all confirmed for 2011 Vintage: Ponda, Bom, Fordo, Bariss, Skiff Master, Aayla, Evanzan, Bespin Han, Aurra, Bastilla, Nom Anor.

hasbro's goal is not to update all of vintage kenner - but they in the long term hope that vintage will not go away.  but that is up to collectors.

if the Target 9 pack is successful there may be another one on tap that they are already putting together.  2nd set would be all OT figures

no plans as of right now for the new AT-ST driver on single card, wouldn't be for a long time.  Same for Uncle Owen.

kneesa pulled primarily due to cost.  future ewoks single carded (no two packs) but with substantial accessories - ie some horn.

6-7 figures from rs.com polls are in next years lineup.  depriest does not post on boards - but he does vote.

comic packs - Hasbro has a whole year worth of comic pack figures sculpted (not tooled) that fans have never seen.

*thats everything that was there as I interpreted it.  It was a good listen while I worked and I encourage you all to give it a go.  This was the first podcast type thing I have ever listened to and I now look forward to future ones.
Title: Re: Celebration V

I haven't listened to the entire thing yet, but did get through some of it as well.  It sounds like the first "mixed" wave is definitely right after the AOTC wave, and it basically sounds like they could hit almost the same time (he said "a week later"), sometime in January is very possible.  He mentioned that it would include 5 out of the 6 films (TPM being the missing one), and I think that he mentioned a couple of the confirmed figures (listed shmashwithdaclub's post) are included in that wave.  We should see it in the next Q and A.  As far as the OTC vehicle thing, from what I understood is that they may do more "vintage packaged" vehicles for next year, but for now they are only sticking to OT vehicles.  I was a little bit surprised that Grievous became the number one selling bad guy last year, outselling Vader.  I mean, I guess we can see a little evidence of "Vader burnout", but in a way it makes me sad that maybe one downside to the CW is that kids aren't even familiar with the "Vader" side of the Saga anymore.

That is true, but it also marks a new generation of fans for the Star Wars saga. Just like people grew up with ANH during its release, there's a new generation of fans growing up with TCW - instead now Grievous takes Vader's place. It is sad when you think about it, actually! But at the same time, we haven't seen Vader do anything since ROTJ in the 1980s (of course, there were the comics and games...). But now Grievous is getting a lot of attention, because he's doing a whole lot of stuff in the show - even if it is the same thing over and over again.

Holy crap, a whole years' worth of sculpted CP figures?! That's amazing to think about - we better see these soon, but I bet it'll be hard with the limited EU slots TVC is getting.

4 figures in select TVC waves? Wow. If I recall correctly, 2008 Wave 2 of TCW had 4 figures as well. Well, hopefully these waves will get good anchor figures.

I was surprised to hear about the year's worth of Comic Pack sculpts as well...

I'd be very curious to see a list of what they are.

Hasbro has said that they're taking a "wait and see" approach with regards to how well the EE comic packs do (or don't do) before trying to see if they can continue the Comic Pack line in a more limited fashion.

I think they should tell us who the sculpts are and how they are paired up and let the fans vote on which comic packs they put into production.

I think that having a Comic Pack exclusive every year for SDCC is the most LOGICAL type of exclusive Hasbro could offer us.

I think that having a Comic Pack exclusive every year for SDCC is the most LOGICAL type of exclusive Hasbro could offer us.

That'd be a logical route for Hasbro to go through... maybe sell each already-produced CP set in an exclusive wave as a follow-up to the original EE CPs, or start selling them as convention exclusives. Honestly, I'm such a fan of the CPs line that I wouldn't mind seeing only 2 packs per wave if Hasbro wanted to test it out, so Hasbro could test ground from there and then ultimately make a final decision about the line's future.
Title: Re: Celebration V
Post by: Jesse James on August 28, 2010, 02:43 AM
Actually having a lot of sculpts done up isn't that uncommon if the life of something is expected to go for a while.  I'm sure there's a number of figures sculpted for the basic line that are just continuously shelved, but their sculpts are probably still done.  It eliminates that initial stage past the basic design and speeds up the manufacturing process and things.

What I'm surprised about is Hasbro being willing to divulge that.  I doubt we ever get to see any of them though.

I'm thoroughly disappointed in the Noghri/Wookie set being only sculpted though, not tooled.  That was probably the worst news on the line I've heard all year.    I so wanted a new Wookie and Noghri.  I was willign to army build that pack, even if it was an exclusive.  I was sure I'd get at least 5 just to stock up on Noghri.  :'(
