Title: Look at what I just got or have thread
Post by: spiderpumpkin on September 7, 2010, 10:55 PM
New thread for everyone to post finds, pictures of finds and pictures of your GI Joe toys.

Last week I won a Brazil Tigor figure and I can't wait to get this figure.  Here's a picture from the eBay auction.

Today, I won 10 more Target SNAKE Armor sets for $61 shipped on eBay.  Now, I'm up to about 35 of those guys.  For the most part I've sold the Viper Commandos and ended up with free or really cheap SNAKES in the end.  I'll post pics of them once they're set up.

Over the weekend I bought a couple more blue Firebats (Sky Sweeper) on clearance at K-Mart.  Now I'm to 4 of those.  They look very cool set up with other arctic vehicles and figures.

No clue who that dude is or his dog and that's probably a good thing for me.

Blue Firebats = cool, blue Firebat pilots = uber lame (in my eyes).   ;)

Received Tigor on Saturday and I'll post some pictures of him with my other Brazil and UK/Euro figures later.

Here's most of my loose international GI Joe figures; at least the ones I have organized.

I wish I could say I had the no camo Jammer but I missed out on that one 2 years ago.

I didn't realize it until I put both Gauchos together but the one on the right with backpack has a darker vest.

The Gaucho with backpack and red vest and Jammer with green camo were recently MOC but I freed them.

Hunter is my favorite Action Force figure.  Right now Tigor is my favorite Brazil figure.

Last week I was walking by an office at work, and saw of all things, a Rolling Thunder from the 1980s on a guy's desk... he ended up giving it to me for free!  It's not complete but does have both big missiles and most of the pieces.  I'm going to restore it and give it to my son.

That is one hell of a collection, spiderpumpkin.  :o

I received a vintage Snake Eyes v2 and Bazooka today. It only took me 25 years to get these guys, and they don't disappoint. I wish I could have found this Snake Eyes when I was a kid. I can't stop fiddling around with it, and it makes me want to get a bunch of other Joes off my shelf and have a battle royale. Maybe I'll do that later.  ;D

Pulled the trigger on this costume (http://www.80stees.com/products/Cobra-Commander-Costume.asp) yesterday.  On sale at 80stees.com for $19.99 down from $60.  Plus there was a promo code for 20% off:  YoJoe        code is good through the 22nd

all reviews basically state that if you are going to get one go for the XXL cuz it runs small.  Also, in the event of a potty break - you are going to have to take it off - that does suck but the costume is pretty sweet for such a low price.  Shipping was only like $7 and is only going to take 2 days to get to me   ;D

There's a seam up the peter, so I'm sure a little seam-ripping + sewing in a little velcro would give you some relief there. :)

Yeah that has been talked about - I just require someone with those skills, as I do not   :P

Anyway, I got it yesterday as scheduled.  I am 5'9, 225lbs.  - outfit fits very well so I am happy I listened to the reviews and went with the XXL.  Putting it on wasn't so bad, but taking it off is a bit of a pain.  I was surprised to find that the way into the jump suit are those few gold buttons on the front - that little opening made it pretty difficult for me to take it off since I am pretty broad in the shoulder/chest.  So taking this thing on/off for bathroom breaks is going to be a horrible experience if I can't get some modifying done by someone between now and Saturday evening...

Picked up a Rolling Thunder + box and a Bridge Layer tonight from some dude off CraigsList for $60.  Not bad - no figures or stickers, but complete otherwise...

Old thread. But we'll go with it.

Got these ARAH figures in the last couple of weeks. Lady Jaye, Snake Eyes, and The Fridge came from ebay, and I scored the Tiger Force 5-pack for a great price on Amazon. It's great to have the Fridge. Never did send away for that one back in the day.

Sweet!  I've heard Hasbro has "wanted" to do this set after dicking us casual fans that couldn't pick up either of the SDCC Slaughters  after promising us he'd come to life again in some form or fashion.  Anywhooo...Nice Score!  Never had a Tripple T as a kid, but Slaughter was always on hand...as was the Fridge guy.

Thanks!

I'm pretty happy with it. This was one of my favorite toys as a kid, so I was happy to get a nice minty version of it. I paid a bit much, but I was blown away when it got here. Somebody on Hisstank was telling me the modern Slaughter fits in the TTT, so I'll have to dig mine out and try. (SDCC Slaughter is another thing I overpaid for... must be a leitmotif with this character...)

A little haul from the Club: Jungle Viper, Robot Rebellion CC, Iron Grenadier Undertow (wish I'd have bought more of these), and the Flaming MOTH Pacific Theater set. Chuckles from that set would be pictured with Shipwreck, but his o-ring was broken in the box and I haven't replaced it yet.

I just bought the Jungle Viper on sale also!  I passed on CC and Undertow because I think they were still $12.  So, instead, I bought Heavy Water and Nullifier.  Along with them I finally picked up the 2011 accessory set for the 12" membership figure and the Action Pilot Dress Uniform set.

I thought about that M.O.T.H. set but ultimately passed.  I should have picked up the set of 4 M.O.T.H. sets one of the times they had them all on markdown.

I was all set to finally pick up the 12" talking Astronaut on this sale, after passing on it for years, and they sold out before I bought.

Went to an out of the way old school comic shop that actually sells old toys and this is what I walked away with for just a few bucks over a bill.  Didn't really want the Dragonfly or the Stun but they offered me 10% off so that was kinda cool.  Man that Whale is huge!  Glad to finally have one of these suckers.   8)

Looks like my Whale is missing 2 of the rear fins, but otherwise complete.  Just need to do the nail polish/super glue trick to tighten some things up.  Maybe resticker it if I ever find time, but it's in good shape otherwise!  Wasn't there a "night patrol" repaint of it?

Ya Ben - I picked up a Python Patrol Stun at a toy show last year for $5 and it was missing a flag.  Luckily a buddy of mine found it a few hours later at the bottom of a box.  The Stun was just gravy as I was really just after the whale, but I do dig it (had one as a kid!)

Don't really have this but I thought I'd post for the Joe guys...

A new Humvee turned up at Target out west in the Forces of Valor line.  About $30 so maybe a little pricey, especially with PTE out there and PTE being arguably superior as far as features go.

I'm not really into mixing Joe vehicles with other lines, but looks damn cool Jesse!  I almost bought that cheap cargo plane at TRU a few times, but kept passing.

My latest haul....I already own both big pappas, but couldn't resist on another set.  Also haven't seen the HISS 2 since I was a boy so very cool!  The "mouth" closes, but just forgot to do that.  Gosh I haven't even started unloading my SW stuff yet.  Opps

NICE!

I had the Night Raven as a kid. Easily one of the best pieces in the line. The Phantom is pretty cool as well. A friend of mine had it, and many air battles were fought in the backyard and many pieces of both planes lost in the grass.

Never saw the HISS II, but it looks great. Great haul! Nothing better than vintage Joe stuffs.

Really digging this Techno-Viper. Never had a desire to own one till I got the modern one. And then I grabbed Airtight and Roadblock for the hell of it (read: cheap.)

I also picked up a modern Airtight at Walgreens that's up for grabs. I'm looking for either the Resolute Cobra Trooper or ROC Bench Press, loose or MOC.

I never had either of the large jets as a kid - neither did my brother.  I think the the largest one I had was the Condor and some space shuttle with the Raven's mini piggy back ship (white) in its belly - can't remember the name though and it wasn't part of the Defiant.  Good stuff though.  Can't wait to start building some actual shelving so I can start displaying all my stuff.

Techno Viper rocked Ben!  He was one of the last round of Joes I picked up as a kid before I put the line to rest back in the late 80's.  My modern pair of Techs are still sitting at BBTS, but it'll be a long while before i hit the button to ship all my stuff.

Not a huge buyer of GI Joe (or SW lately), but I just got the Crimson HISS tank, and I'm kind of annoyed.  The tank is cool looking and seems like it'd be a fun toy, but Hasbro messed up 3 times with mine.  First the didn't include the "front weapon" piece in the box.  Second there are two backpacks for the driver (should be only one).  But I could kind of deal with those two, the last ruins the toy.  The tank comes in two pieces, a body and a chassis that connects to the treads.  On the top of the chassis is supposed to be a ring that the body attaches to.  Except the ring wasn't in the box either.  So I have a very cool, aggresive looking set of tank treads, and a tank body, that is partially disarmed.  I would've just put it back in the box and taken it back to Walmart, but the connection of the treads to the chassis seems permanent, so it won't fit back in the box.  I sent a note to the customer service folks at Hasbro, hopefully they'll be able to offer some sort of solution, which will probbaly be "Ship it to us and we'll send you an equivalent item".

I've bought a dozen or so Star Wars and GI Joe vehicles in the last year or two, and they've all been complete up to now, so I can't complain too loud, just frustrated today....

Weird...my Crimson HISS had two backpacks, too (including extra mines).  I didn't have the other problems, though.  Those are a bummer.

Two backpacks were included with all of my tanks. I believe they are supposed to plug into holes on either side of the tank to act as "missile defense systems" or something like that... either the filecard or description on the box made mention of them, but I don't think the instructions illustrated how to attach them. Here is a pic of the backpacks attached to the tank:

I think the backpacks look okay on the tank, but I usually have them displayed on my Cobra Shock Trooper figures. I love the mold though so I was happy to get two with each tank. More awesome gear is always a plus.

Keonobi, it definitely sounds like you got a defective toy which is always a bummer. It seems that 99% of the time Hasbro's stuff is complete and in great shape, but those rare instances when you pick a dud suck big time. It's even worse with Joe items since they are so difficult to find and returning/exchanging becomes even more of a hassle. Considering your tank can't even be assembled, I would recommend sending an email to Hasbro asking if they have a replacement ring piece or even the whole chassis. Worst case scenario is they offer you a replacement vehicle if you send yours in.

Ahh, I didn't realize that's what the backpacks were for, and I didn't get what to do with the mines at all..  :-[

I actually did send a note to Hasbro, but their response team only works weekdays, which just means I had a day and a half to grump about it.  I'm thinking they'll somehow try to arrange a replacement piece, or offer to replace the whole toy if I send it in.  From what I've seen they tend to be responsive to this type of mistake.

I'd assume the packs are "stowage", and meant to snap onto the tank like basically every tank has on it since WWI. :)  Why hump it yourself when the armor can do it for you and add an extra layer to trigger a round earlier to boot?

If they offer you the chance to send the tank in for a replacement, please be aware that you might not get a HISS tank in return. That's why I view it as the worst case scenario. From my experience Hasbro has always had a "same item or similar" type clause when it comes to replacing an item, which usually means same assortment but maybe not the exact same toy. A couple of instances I've had were with a Star Wars vehicle (sent in a Tank Droid, got a Clone Trooper Tank in return) and battle pack (sent in one set, got a different one). I doubt they would send you a 12 inch doll or an older Joe toy as a replacement, but it is likely you might get sent a Black Dragon VTOL or VAMP rather than a Crimson HISS. It is a gamble and you might not be satisfied with the end result.

I'd assume the packs are "stowage", and meant to snap onto the tank like basically every tank has on it since WWI. :)  Why hump it yourself when the armor can do it for you and add an extra layer to trigger a round earlier to boot?

Viewing the packs as stowage is definitely the best way to look at it. The VAMP vehicle also has holes for backpack pegs, though no backpacks were included with the toy. The holes allow for some different display options and interaction with figures so I'm glad Hasbro  worked them into the sculpts.

After seeing the pics of the Crimson HISS, I had to get one:

Found it at TRU today, so I grabbed it. Then I got another set of MARS Troopers at Gordmans and I found another Zombie Viper at Walgreens.

Sometimes I wish we had the option to get extra vehicle drivers without buying more vehicles. I don't really want another of these tanks, but would love more Crimson Horesmen.  :-\

I think I saw a guy on eBay selling a lot of Horsemen figures.  Not Tung but one of the guys that has similar stock.

I ordered a HISS from TRU.com and got the Crimson version. They pictured the black release, and that was what I was hoping for, but the Crimson version is still pretty cool.  I'm wishing now that I'd picked up the black release back around Christmas when I saw it at TRU.  But they wanted $30 for it and I didn't want to pony up.

No luck (yet) on finding anyone selling more Horsemen on ebay. I'm sure they'll be up again.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I saw the VTOL thing and maybe the VAMP at Target...  It's been a little while now, and I never saw many HISS tanks anywhere, but I do recall seeing vehicles at Target at some point.
Title: Re: Look at what I just got or have thread
Post by: efranks on March 21, 2012, 08:48 PM
I never really understood why Target dropped the Bravo vehicles.  After RoC, my store had Alphas and the Mechs, but never carried Bravo.  I know some Walmart stores carried Bravo, mine did for maybe the first wave, but then dropped all Joe vehicles.  I've recently seen some Bravo vehicles at Walmart again, but I don't think they carried the Sky Striker but Target did.

I'm wishing now I'd gone ahead and bought one of the early brown HISS Tanks but I was holding out for black and I only ever saw that once and didn't buy (kicking myself).  I'm happy to have the Crimson version, though, because it looks like they're cutting back on the new movie HISS Tank, dropping the rubber treads and going back to wheels.

One thing that baffles me is that after RoC, stores really dumped GI Joe from their shelves and it's been harder than hell to find stuff or the last 2 years but they don't seem to have the same problems with other lines that don't sell.  Even with the huge amount of unsold product, how long did Target dedicate decent shelf space to Iron Man 2?  How about Walmart, which, while carrying that, completely removed Joe from a lot of its stores?  At least Joe was moving forward with new product, the IM stuff was stagnant for all of 2011 and really never got beyond the first 2, maybe 3 waves back in 2010 before it gridlocked.

It feels like Hasbro gave up on Joe for the last 2 years.  Even though the figures, for the most part, were decent and I'm sure they sold some stock, it's like Hasbro was deflated that RoC wasn't a huge hit and an instant sellout of all toys and they just gave up.  Even though the PoC line has some of the best GI Joe action figures ever, it's like they, as a company, couldn't be bothered to try and sell it to retail.  You could see that the Joe team still had love for the line, but somewhere up the chain of command they just abandoned all hope.

The crappy part is that with the market today, if you look at the Retaliation line, it really is a lesser line than RoC/Poc/30th/Renegades.  Articulation is missing, sculpted in accessories for the Battle Kata figures, most of the vehicles are repaints...  And now, I just got home from Target where they bumped the price of Joe figures to $10.99.

They just pulled the Vintage Collection figures back a $1 to $8.99 and then raised Joe $2?  They're out of their damned mind.  If this is a primer for the Retaliation figures, they can count me out.  There's not enough I like in that new line to get me to pay that kind of money.

Post by: Ben on March 22, 2012, 04:00 AM
I think Hasbro's upper management gave up on GI Joe when Resolute came along. It was something that captured the fan's interest, but certainly wasn't for kids. I really think the upper brass quashed it, which is why most everything from that show was internet exclusive, and then the brass tried to get the kids with ROC, which was whatever.

Somebody somewhere still has this idea that GI Joe is a kid's line, when all evidence is against them. The last couple of years of the line have been incredible, but there's absolutely no marketing to anyone who wasn't born before George W. Bush's  administration. Actually, since 2009, there's been no marketing period.

There's been this issue with GI Joe since the RAHC debuted in 2000. It's almost impossible to market it outside of nostalgia. I think GI Joe lives and dies by American opinion on war, which killed it in the 1970s and keeps it on a lower profile now. Which is my opinion, of course.

Let's try to get this back on track here....

Scored a loose 2009 Stinger. No driver, but otherwise complete. Really digging it, since I  never got that last wave of vehicles, and every time I tried to deal for them, the seller would back out. Stinger down, Arctic HISS and FLAK/CLAW to go...

I got my replacement in the mail yesterday.  It was the same vehicle I sent in!  Whoo hoo!!  Thank you Hasbro and thanks guys for the stowage tips.  I think I went a little overboard with the stickers though.  It looks a bit like someone who got just one too many tattoos.

I finally opened my brown HISS over the weekend and honestly the color is not as bad as I thought it was going to be - kinda dig it actually.  Guess I'll need to finally cave on the bay one of these days to round out the POC trio.
Title: Re: Look at what I just got or have thread
Post by: Jesse James on April 2, 2012, 08:18 PM
I liked the brown color (not that I bought one) because I thought it had a "primer" look to it, and I could totally see Cobra cheaping out on paint. :)

Reminded me of the primer color of German armor rolling out at the end of WW2, some of it never getting a paintjob because it had to be rushed to the front and whoever got it was left to figure out what to do to camo it themselves.

Post by: warinthefloor on April 5, 2012, 12:57 PM
I sort of use mine as an iron Grenadier version since the color nicely compliments if not matches the MARS officer from the troop builder pack, and it just looks good with a squad of those guys, the heavy gunner thats been shipping in POC and 30th.

Sort of like I really like the new Cobra renegades trooper ( sucurity officer) hanging out near the clssic MAGGOT because teh colors look good together.

I just picked up a brown version of the POC HISS as well.  Snagged it from Nerd Rage Toys.  Loose, complete and in good shape.  The only problem I have with it is the locking mechanism for holding the body down is really touchy.  If you push on it to roll it across the floor and the body tilts forward even a little it will release and pop up.  Not sure, is that a design flaw in the toy or is the spring on this one just worn out?

Title: Re: Look at what I just got or have thread
Post by: efranks on April 6, 2012, 10:09 AM
Thanks for the confirmation.  Probably just a design shortcomming in the latch.  To me it feels like the spring isn't heavy enough to keep it locked down and maybe Hasbro fixed that for later releases.  It's not that big of a deal but I think if I were a kid that was playing with it a lot it might become really annoying.

The latch on my HISS is the same way. It must have been improved for later releases, since my Crimson version doesn't pop as easily as the first POC version.

A couple more vintage Joes from ebay:

Roadblock is in perfect condition, which is great. Hit & Run has a little discoloration on the elbows, but otherwise has tight joints and no elbow cracks, which is getting harder to find on 1988 figures.

Always nice to plug away at those vintage Joes!  Haven't seen my Roadblock in years, but I'm actually looking forward to picking up the Rock's version..1 only though and not the 50 repaints he'll surely come in.

Got this guy/bike on Scum of all places - um we need more help like that over here please!  Not sure what I think about him/it though...Obviously I'm a fan of both worlds...I dunno - might take some time to grow on me.

Scored a SkyStriker, Renegades Scarlett, Tunnel Rat and Rip Cord all for a shade over $20 on clearance at Target.  The SS was $10.48, and I expect that those that have been sitting at full price and then at $17 will move at this price.  This goes into the "future toy box" for my son.

Finally found the Dollar General Joe figures yesterday afternoon.  Stopped at a DG on the way back from a tech call.

The figures were not on pegs, they were standing up on a shelf.  They had all 6 so I bought them all because I'm not sure when/if I'll see them again.  I didn't ask if they had more, even though I'd take a couple more Cobra troops and another Duke or two for head swaps.  $40 enough to spend in a "dollar" store...

Staying in the box just like Starscream.  Most all of my TF/Joe stuff gets opened, but there are a few special ones that I like to keep in the box like my old days of SW collecting (which was pretty much everything)  I didn't really like the new tank mold compared to those with real working treads so he shall remain a coffin in my collection.

This is one of the first times I really wish I could take pics and share with you guys, putting different squads of cobras on these boats.
Regular 30th / POC Cobra troopers look bad ass with about four on each boat, I have enough Black DG troopers to do one whole boat in them.
But the baddest look of all is all three boats loaded out with 30th/ POC Vipers, the colors are just perfect
Title: Re: Look at what I just got or have thread
Post by: Ben on August 16, 2012, 12:57 AM
Yeah, the Fang Boat is pretty badass. They were all sold out at my local K-Mart (I'd like to get another), but I got a couple other goodies:

Grabbed the Cycle and AWE Striker at K-mart on clearance. Wasn't going to buy them, but I'm kind of weird about collecting drivers, even if they have reduced articulation. Scored the JV at Walgreens, which I'll have to start checking again, because they're restocking with POC stuff. The Steel Brigade and Zombie came from TRU, which is also restocking with 30th Ann. wave 4.

The AWE Striker is awesome. Hasbro gave it a new rollbar, so you can do this:

Thinking I'll go back to K-Mart and grab the other one I saw and customize it to get rid of the Arashikage symbol on the front. It's only $8, but probably gone by now.

Also grabbed these:

Neither of them considered GI Joe's finest moments, but they complete sets. Thanks for looking!

Congrats!  Sucks it took awhile for her to find you.  Honestly not sure what to do with my Zarana or this version of Jinx as I still have a carded collection of 25th stuff and this fits in nicely.  Well they would loose as well but just not sure if I want to shell out enough to have both versions of my Joes complete.  Still need Mr. Slaughter too.

I don't think I ever re-acquired a vintage Steel Brigade so will have to add him to my list!  Nice haul though Ben!

Is baby puke green Stalker still selling for insane cash?  Thinking of selling him off as I find it silly to own him, but stupid not to have the cash I could possibly get for him.
Title: Re: Look at what I just got or have thread
Post by: Ben on August 28, 2012, 10:33 PM
Thanks! Very happy with it.  :)

I'm not sure on Stalker. I know one of the DVD Battles sets had a similar yellow Stalker in one of them, which killed the value of loose ones. Carded might be a different story.

I'm pretty happy with the Steel Brigade. Super mint, came with his original baggie (opened on the side) and the patch, but the hard-to-find dark gray Airborne rifle isn't any easier to find. But I got a hell of a deal on it, so he'll probably just get a regular Airborne rifle.

I'm also torn on a carded Jinx and Zarana. I have a carded and loose Slaughter, but he was $15 cheaper than either of those two.

It does suck how Hasbro has to make these exclusives - I wouldn't mind it if they just put out comic versions of the Joes that I have no relation with, but c'mon!   >:(

Baby puke Stalker is still carded so I think he's still worth something, just have to brush up on my ebaying skills i guess.

Picked up two figures at NYCC last weekend.  An upgrade vintage Cutter figure and GI Joe (Colton) from the Viper Lockdown set.  I was hoping to find GI Jane with him but she wasn't there, either missed her or they offloaded her before I found the bin.  I did see a Bombstrike, though, but passed cause I already have her.  There were some decent prices on loose figures if you spent time to dig around.

The Cutter figure needs a new O-Ring but I'm going to compare him to the one I already have and take the best parts and put together one whole figure.  The fig I aleady have has cracked elbows.  The new fig is pretty clean but I think I'll still sort it out and keep the best parts of the two.

I finally found the three Dollar General Joes I wanted - Duke, Storm Shadow, and Cobra Trooper

Last time I hit Dollar General about two weeks ago, they had a couple of full sets on the pegs. It looked like the Joes were part of their Christmas toy section. I got my set back in September, but I'm glad to see that they are more widely available. Hopefully the variants/repaints won't start out as hard-to-find as the first wave was.

Nice score Greg!  Ebay?

Yup, got them on ebay. I managed to win the lot with all six for about the same (maybe less) than what the Slaughters and Zaranas would have cost me individually. I already had the Jinx figures from HTS so I'm working to sell off the extra pair to subsidize the purchase. All in all I'm very happy to have all of the SDCC figures... I'm thinking about tracking down the Transformers/Joe crossover sets, but that wouldn't be any time soon.

Also, I had a lot of fun doing this:

Attended the Assembly Required con in Des Moines last weekend. It was a blast, and I got some cool swag to boot:

A bunch of perfectly mint vintage Joes: Quick Kick, Budo, Falcon, Jinx, Cobra Commander, Toxo-Viper, Techno-Viper, and Laser Viper. The full cards were a bonus, and none of these cost more than $12.

But the best part was these two:

JoeCon 2011 Python Tele-Viper I bought from one of the dealers, then a preproduction Retaliation Sneak Attack Storm Shadow! (At least I think that's what Hasbro is going to call it.) I won it in the raffle, so that was a pretty sweet bonus.

If you're in the area, I'd make the drive to next year's gathering. It's small for now, but the deals to be had on vintage and modern are incredible, plus the store hosting it (Jay's CD & Hobby) is one of the neatest places I've ever been.

Never heard of the con before II, but I like the name.

It's a great time. There's another one this spring, I assume after the movie and Joe Con.

Got this a couple weeks ago:

Joe Con 2012 Darklon. Cost an arm and a leg, but worth it.
