Title: Saga TIE Fighter
Post by: dustrho on July 25, 2003, 05:21 PM
I don't own the new Saga TIE Fighter, but I read this review over at the SWCCM (http://www.scoundrelpublishing.com/swccm/forums/index.php).  I think the review was done pretty nicely.

I just received my SAGA TIE Fighter from KB in the mail today, so they should be arriving all over the nation's mailboxes soon. I was a bit unhappy with the packaging job done by KB, they threw the TIE box into packing box that was twice as big but only filled it with ONE air pillow. For all you minty fresh box collectors that wont go well for you, many dings on the TIE's box, as well as several shipping stickers placed their by KB, no clue why that was done.

The packaging for the TIE itself is pretty nice, it's pretty much shaped like the TIE, with a diorama insert on the inside. This insert though really doesn't do a lot of good, its actually a picture of the trench run in ANH... The TIE itself is your pretty standard run since 78, a bit more detailing than the POTF2 model but of course its the back of the pod that makes the difference. A nice new sculpt that really looks like the pod of the TIE, though I instinctively went to grasp the battery cover that wasn't there. The TIE's box says there is battle damage on this guy, but I don't see any such paint ops, looks like they decided to skip that idea. The pod's interior has a nice new sticker layout, looks a bit more techie-realistic. My only complaint really about the TIE itself (other than the dimensions of the wings, duh  ) is that the paint job done on the front laser cannons is off, the right cannon has a lot more red than the left, looks a bit off, but I can live with it. The TIE Pilot is the same as that with the Bomber/Interceptor and makes for another great entry into the Imperial Navy, perhaps one day his articulated knees will prove to be useful.

Overall on a scale of 1 (Cruisemissile Trooper) to 10 (Imperial Shuttle/FX X-Wing) I give the new SAGA TIE Fighter a 6, well worth the money, but still not the definitive TIE Fighter.

Yup...

That's my buddy Jason's review of the TIE Fighter (CorranHorn over at Rebelscum, and also THEFFURG.com staffer).

Pretty good review of the ship that he got, though I'm not sure I agree. :)  6 out of 10 isn't high, but I'd have gone lower I think.  I'm bitter over that Solar Panel debacle that Hasbro flubbed up.

Who was begging for JUST the cockpit to be fixed, and I know I've seen more people ask for the Solar Panels to be done so their fighters were all at least near the same size.

It would have been nice if Hasbro had fixed that solar panel size, but Hasbro has selective hearing I guess.   ::)

Tho, I agree with you guys on the solor panel size,  I do find it is the most accurate Tie to Date as far as the sculpt goes.

It would have been nice if Hasbro had fixed that solar panel size.

I like it alot, but it does have its downs,  I would also like to see a FX ver. of this, like the old but not with that eye sore Battery Pack... Maybe, they could see if they could get the same look with watch Battery's or something.

hey it's my review, woo hoo!  ;D

Overall I still do enjoy the new TIE, sure Hasbro stiffed us on the solar panels, but it was a nice attempt at getting TIE's out there for new people. Can't wait to line up all my TIE's in a staging area type diorama....

I picked it up today...  I like it alot.  I wish they would do something about the wing size as that's the only thing that irks me about it.  Overall,  great piece.
