Interesting notes about these:

-Each figure is limited to 1500
-GG holds this license for 3 years
-Packaging allows you to remove it from the cardback without destroying the package so it can be display either way  :)
- Boba Fett is exclusive to CV

Thanks for all the info Jayson-

I'm still sorely tempted by these, at least to get the Stormtrooper and Vader. I wonder if 1,500 is the run for the figure period, or the figure on that particular card. I could see some of these being released on alternate cardbacks as show exclusives in the future-

$100 would buy a pretty nice orginal vintage carded figure, and would take up less space.   :P

Wow, I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right.  In fact, you can buy a lot of them for under $100.  I'm passing on these, cool as they are.

The re-release got very big.

It could be the time for other 4 inches re releases, at least on mail redemptiom offers.

Wow, that's a good deal, but their shipping is merciless.  $64 to ship 8 figures is insane.  I was thinking about nabbing the 8 Jumbo figs they have, but $516 is a tad pricey.  If Fett was part of the mix, I might change my mind.  Thanks for the head's up Jeff!

Well, I have to eat some crow on this.  I recently found the 12" Chewbacca on sale for $50, so I decided to check him out.  FREAKING AWESOME.  I am hooked, though still not happy with the crazy price points.  I was able to secure an order for Han (Big Head) and Leia for $50 each as well, and threw in Hammerhead and Greed for $65 each.  Pricey, but I'm going to just try to pick them up here and there when I can find good deals.  Less interested in the Gammorean and Astromechs unless they are dirt cheap, but I will probably work towards getting everything else.  Bummer that the Fett was an exclusive - hopefully they will pull a Stormtrooper and release him in some other way down the road.

If anybody finds these for South of $50, please let me know!

I've got em all so far, but I'm leaving them on the cards/bubbles (though with that design, you could remove and replace them quite easily).  I"ve been real concerned about shipping damage, but so far, they've all arrived in perfect condition (BBTS and a good ebay seller I deal with both double box).

I didn't see Luke X-Wing or Power Droid announced yet - I just had them on the list of 21 backs.  I like how they are starting witht he Star Wars carded vintage first before moving to Empire and ROTJ figures (except Gammorean of course).  Thanks for the head's up on Luke - I will edit the list.

Well, I got my first one of these yesterday.  I had preorder C-3PO and R2-D2 thinking that although I couldn't afford all of them, it would be nice to have a couple to display.  I got 3PO from BBTS yesterday, and these really are great.  I can't wait for R2 to be released, but it already seems like a slippery slope with these.  I also have a Chewie on the way - which may lead to a Han, but I really need to stop there.  I had a grand idea of just having some "sets of 2" and continuing on with Luke/Leia, Vader/Obi-Wan or something, but it seems to branch out awfully quickly that way.  All that said, the 3PO looks great, and I can see why so many of you love these.  It would be cool to see some people's displays of these.  If/when they get to all of the original vintage line (or even most of it) it could make for a pretty impressive (although massive) display.  I got a wave of nostalgia when I opened up that 3PO, pretty cool.

Found a guy willing to sell me both the Empire Fett and 12-Back 12" Vader figures for $200 shipped.  SCORE.  Got them today and they are magnificent.  Wish I had the space to display the carded.

Picked up the Chewie today for 50% off at Gentle Giant's website... couldn't resist at that price. There are so many others that I'd like; Fett, Jawa, R2, Vader, Hammerhead, Greedo, etc., but I'm mainly holding out for Yoda and maybe a power droid.

Ooh, Yoda.  Never crossed my mind before, but if they're making a Snaggletooth, I'd think they have to make a Yoda.

I'd also like IG-88, Akbar, Snowtrooper, TIE fighter pilot, Lando.  The list goes on...

That's a nice score.  Chewie was my Gateway figure as well.   ;)  If you're looking for others, check out scifigenre.com.  They have at least half of the 12" figures available and they're mostly around $65 with free shipping on any orders > $75.

I managed to score Vader and Fett for $200 shipped from a guy on another site.  Fett is amazing - almost a shame to take him out of the package.  I love the vinyl cape figures in large size as well.  I'm hoping to find a good deal on Vinyl Jawa and Obi-Wan somewhere, but need to take a break in the spending for a while.   :-\

I just bought R2-D2 and C-3PO.  Also, I plan to buy R5-D4 and a Power Droid if they make that one.  I really wouldn't mind having everything but I think I'll stick to just the Droids if possible.

I sure hope Gentle Giant doesn't start making some 1982/83+ ARAH GI Joe Jumbo figures.  Those would really be hard to pass on.

Ok, I looked over what else is coming out and I think Greedo, Hammerhead, Death Star Droid and Walrus Man are on my list.

Oh, and I missed Sand People and Jawa too.

Not really sure I will ever buy the human characters at this scale.  Mostly just the aliens.

That $40 Chewbacca is tempting.  How much was shipping?

Are they skipping Power Droid?  I sure hope not.  That was my all time favorite figure when I was 4.

These things, like much of the cooler stuff, are a slippery slope.  I started off just wanting the droids, then added Chewie, and now I'm thinking about more.  There is no way I'd have room for them all, but now I'm starting to think it would be fun to have sets of two (Droids, Han/Chewie, Luke/Leia, Vader/Obi or Stormie).  We'll see what the budget allows, but they definitely are fun.

I picked up Boba Fett, Stormtrooper, and a Jawa. I see myself wanting Yoda and without a doubt Ananaman if they ever get to him. I wouldn't be able to resist a Rebo Band either.
Title: Re: Gentle Giant Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Post by: Brian on May 10, 2012, 04:57 PM
I'm on a slippery slope with these now.  I started off with 3PO and R2, and have also added Han/Chewie to the shelf now as well.  I tried ordering Luke, but it turns out he was out of stock, and I haven't seen him available elsewhere yet either.  Our daughter really wants the Leia one, so I did order one for her b-day later this summer.  I had aspirations of "sets of 2" with these, and then stopping, but that might be it unless I can track down a Luke for a decent price.  They sure are neat though, I'd love to see some people's displays who have been keeping up with them.  It seems like you could do something spiffy with those giant cardbacks as well, for a collection room or something.

Brian, are you planning to open yours?  I found Chewie on the cheap and figured I would just get one of these.  Then I popped him open and could not resist getting more.  I have since snagged Fett, Vader, and the DS Trooper.  I also have Luke, Han, Leia, Stormtrooper, and Threepio on the way.  Luke is mostly sold out everywhere I've looked (along with Ben and the Jawas), but you can still get Leia for a good price on Ebay or Amazon.  I'm planning to display mine loose - just don't have room for them with the packaging.

I actually have opened all of the ones I've gotten so far.  With it being so simple to repackage them, why not?  Plus, it is tough enough finding room to display these without having to try and hang those gigantic cardbacks :).  It has been said before, but these things are a slippery slope.  I picked up the droids, then that led to Han and Chewie, and now I have a Leia (for our daughter's b-day) and Vader sitting in my "Pile of Loot" at BBTS.  Also picked up a discounted Chewie for our daughter's b-day as well.  I wanted to get Luke, but he seems to be sold out everywhere that I've seen.  I originally thought if I could get him, and then maybe a Stormie to stand next to Vader, that would be enough.  Then again, I did preorder the Yoda too.  It is getting out of hand.

I was able to secure an order for Han (Big Head) and Leia for $50 each as well, and threw in Hammerhead and Greedo for $65 each.

So, with Greedo and Hammerhead being delayed, I swapped those two out of my order and grabbed Stormtrooper and C-3PO instead.  Shipping is free, so I snagged all four of these for just $230.  I picked up a Han/Luke combo off Ebay, so figured I would have an extra Han coming from this order.  Imagine my surprise when I popped open the box to find...SMALL HEAD Han Solo!  I was hoping to score one of these for under $100, so definitely please with getting one at $50.

I wanted to ask this at C6 but did not find anyone at the GG booth who could answer such questions. Has GG given any indication of doing a Jumbo Jedi Luke? It's the only figure I truly would like to buy but outside of Gamorrean Guard it doesn't look like they are planning to do any ROTJ figures for a while.
Title: Re: Gentle Giant Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Post by: JediJman on September 29, 2012, 04:01 PM
I would not expect to see many ROTJ figures in the near future.  They seem to be following fairly close to the original launch order outside of the Gammorean.  I would expect to see more of the early Empire figures coming in the next wave.  They also have about seven or eight figures in pre-order right now, so even if they announced something today, we're probably at least six to nine months away from seeing it.

Has anyone received HAmmerhead yet?  Apparently the inability to fill orders on Walrusman at my comic shop was a fluke - they are still expecting Momaw and the rest, but I wanted to see if he's out there en masse yet....

Yep.  I got in on one of the last preorders for Hammerhead at BBTS when he was priced at $71.  Delivered on 5/3.

And the SDCC Droids Fett is up for preorder to PGM members, should anyone want to pick one up.

Have a friend selling off his whole collection when he found out they weren't completing the ROTJ series...  It was tough to blame him.  :-\

They're not?  Did they say why?  I figured they'd carry this through the whole line unless sales dropped off.

Now I cannot recall where I heard/read that at but seem to recall them saying they weren't going to get to ALL the ROTJ figures?  I don't collect, but my friend was under the same impression on that matter and he does buy into them all.

It's a line I don't keep up with, terribly, but seem to remember that being mentioned last year sometime...  For people into it, I hope it's not true.  It'd be kinda crummy not to complete it, if you went all-in on that line.  :-\

Thanks.  I have almost all of them so far, but bagged on things like Santa Yoda.  I've picked up all the variants and exclusives though.  To be fair, I don't have room for a full line of them anyway, so probably just as well, but I hope they get to some of my old time favorites like the DS Gunner and Emperor's Royal Guard.

I could totally be wrong, or maybe even it was POTF now?  I can't recall, but was sure I remember somewhere along the line them saying they weren't going to get to everyone.

I'd be a little disappointed if I were getting them I think, but only because I think I'd phase something out of my collection in favor of them, like all my actual vintage maybe, or something along those lines.

I preferred the original scale though ultimately.  I definitely dig the Jumbos though.

There are plenty of 2013/2014 GG Q&As that have some variation of "We most likely will not be doing every figure, but highlighting most sought after, and certain characters. (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Rebelscumcom_Presents_A_2013_Gentle_Giant_Ltd_QA_150696.asp)"

I can't blame then for not wanting to risk a $80 General Madine or whatever.  :P

I think they've seen the end of the line coming for a while now, which is why they've been willing to start up Secret Wars, Super Powers, and GI Joe Jumbo lines to start giving people other things to buy.

In fact, not to be the total bearer of bad news, but there are lots of rumors that the reason they are dipping into the Droids well now is because the end is nearer than you think.  There was no PGM Jumbo option this year, was there?  :-\

Not that I recall, but again I barely follow the Jumbo Vintage craze.  I like looking at a lot of stuff online rather than actually buying it.  :-\

I knew I'd seen something about them saying they probably wouldn't get to everything though, so at least I wasn't going nuts.

Thanks - that's good to know when I call this afternoon to beach them out.  ;)

So, I love the GG Retro Jumbo figures, but their customer service is pretty awful.  In the last 90 days, I've sent four emails about my missing 2-1B figure.  I received responses for two of them, both times simply asking me to call their customer service line to straighten things out.  I tried calling CS six different times, but can never get through to anyone.  Yesterday I called around 3:00 and finally got through to an operator.  She directed me to customer service (odd in itself since that's the number I supposedly called).  After waiting 2-3 minutes I got a voicemail.  So I called again and it just rang.  So I called again and got the same operator and just directly asked for customer service.  I must have been on hold at least five minutes because the song changed twice.  Finally someone answered (Jewell I think?)  She searched through old records and found a receipt for my membership purchase, but not the exclusive figure.  She was able to send me out a 2-1B after some checking, but needed a credit card to pay the $15 shipping fee.  That whole process took another 15-20 minutes.

At this point I'm just glad I'm getting my figure, but what a lousy experience all the way around.  I have spent hours hounding them just to get the figure I paid for almost a year and half ago.  You'd think they would discount the shipping or offer up a coupon or a discounted 2015 membership maybe, but I didn't even get an apology...just a sorry for the call taking so long.  Much as I love these, part of me is glad things seem to be wrapping up so I can send my money elsewhere.
