This is one of my favorites as well. Thanks in advance for hosting this, Scott!

Here's a question (since this is a discussion) I have: As the final three Imperial Dignitaries are annually on my list, I was just curious how others would want them done if Hasbro decided to make them. I know people hate salt-shaker figures, but I would hope that they have some consistency with the previous two already released (so as not to update 2 other figures).

Which leads to another question: Would people be happy with limited articulation for minor characters (such as the Dignitaries), who are only seen standing around?

Hooray!  Constantly imitated, but never duplicated. :)

I consider our wishlists "Vintage" and ones at OtHeR sites more like "Knock off" or POTF2.

Man, two years in a row with NO TPM wishes filled.  There were rumors of a TPM wave this year but the 3D rerelease shifted things to 2012...I don't expect them to visit a lot of those wishes next year though either outside of Jar Jar and maybe the Pilot.  Long standing wishes like the Final Padme, the R5 units and the more obscure Podracers seem unlikely if they are going to relaunch with movie figures.

At least they've updated Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, but that still leaves updating of other important characters: 3-PO, Palps, Vallorum, Jar Jar, Boss Nass, Neimodians, etc. I'd love to see podracers, but that's because I'm a race fan anyway, but I agree that it seems unlikely that they'll be made and they won't be 2-packs, despite their small nature.

Why is Darth Maul not on more people's lists?  Is it just cuz he is so obvious and people are sure Hasbro will make an ultimate Maul?

I'd say its totally that...he's so close and there are other glaring holes in the TPM line

I must have a Ben Quadrineros figure.  I can understand how he hasn't been made after all this time, the character design would have made a viable figure impossible around the TPM release date.  But since then Hasbro has made great strides and I am confident that they now have the ability to craft one.  And they HAVE to make him, he is mentioned by name MULTIPLE times, and has a whole sequence practically to himself.  This is like not ever making the Rancor Keeper, or Boba Fett.

Agreed.  The Evolutions Darth Maul really brought the figure a long way towards being comparable to most other Jedi or Sith figures.  I'd still like to see an ultimate version of Darth Maul with lots of ball joints (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees & ankles), but that kind of treatment seems like a lower priority in the grand scheme of things.  That's why my own list didn't include Darth Maul.  And you kind of get the feeling that Hasbro will revisit him in time anyway.

My own wishlist had a variety of characters:  droids, pod racers, senators, characters with dialogue, and never before made versions of Queen Amidala.  I think there's still plenty of interesting ground to be covered with The Phantom Menace.  And that could very likely be addressed next year with the 3D release of Episode I.

However, I think Hasbro has been a little gun-shy with Episode I in general.  Especially since that toy line wound up being such a HUGE presence at retail but took a really long time to sell off.  This has been discussed for a long time, and it seems as though Hasbro and Lucas Licensing may have both over-estimated the potential sales for Episode I merchandise.

All I really want from TPM is an updated SA Jar Jar, Anakin, and Padme (either from the Theed Battle or the Tatooine disguise). That would hold me over for maybe a year or so.

It's still a little baffling to me that some of these characters haven't had figures made in over a decade, especially such important ones (your mileage may vary there  ;)).

Lots of late votes shifted results to almost exactly the same top 10 as last year for TPM...

Anakin Skywalker (Tatooine/Pod Race)
PK Droid
Ann and Tann Gella
C-3PO
Naboo Royal Guard

Were the next 5, and all 5 are deserving.  It will be interesting to see what Hasbro does with this next year and if any of those long standing wishes ever come to pass...

Mawhonic
Kitster/Wald
Tey How

Have been on the lists every single year we've done them...

I'm not really disappointed as The Phantom Menace, at least for me, is a pretty much done deal...  My only disappointment is that the Naboo military really doesn't make any impact on the lists, and they're really all there is for army building from that movie at this point.

Panaka is cool to make the list though, and one could hope Hasbro would re-use the body to do a variant, but really I'm not that into TPM...  The astromechs are probably the most interesting figures I want even.  It's a shame that movie just feels so devoid of great figure choices.

Super Duper Articulated Maul's really the only thing I think everyone would even get excited about...  The rest is just "well that'd be nice to have, but...." kind of choices.  At least to me it is.  I'd never feel bad if we didn't get another figure from TPM, except maybe that Maul.  The rest would just be kinda neat to have I guess.

Isn't it about time for Kitster and Wald to get separate places in the top ten?  Hasbro's ship has pretty much sailed on the two-packs.

That's one thick soup of female action figures for the Attack of the Clones 2011 Results...  Yeesh.

I like some of the choices, just not all of them.  I guess AOTC is like everything else, it's winding down a bit on new stuff...  I hate to start wishing for resculpts of figures though, just for ball-jointed hips and wrists or something.  And I've been like the obscene articulation cheerleader now for way too long.  Even I am happy not to buy some of these guys ever again though.   :-\

A super duper pooper scooper Jango wouldn't get sneezed at by myself though, nor would a new young Boba.

Post by: Scott on April 22, 2011, 05:48 PM
They were all right there but a late push for Padme put her in those last three spots.  Baby Boba resculpt was in there too.

Pablo Jill was the #1 wish back in 2004...and it one of the first returns to a list for a resculpt :P

I'd like a new Coleman Trebor as well.  The other humans...meh.  I'll buy them but I personally would rather see alien Senators, Jedi etc
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2011 Discussion
Post by: Jesse James on April 22, 2011, 11:56 PM
You didn't like the Target Coleman Trebor redo?  I just got an extra of him the other day because of the sale...  I thought that was a pretty passable figure at that time.

I'm only advocating human Jedi because, at this point, they're pretty much the only Jedi to not get figures...  So my wishes are there, but also because there are so many great fodder human Jedi bodies too at this point, that it's really a matter of a new head, maybe new hands, and a deco...

Pablo Jill was never good enough for me.  The 2004 figure looked nice, but his arms are all kinds of ******, and the legs are not articulated at all.  There's a guy who could stand a ton of articulation just on his physiology, plus I like how he looks too...  He's a weird one that I'd happily rebuy.  He's the only alien Jedi I'm really jonesin' to get a resculpt except maybe some E1 Jedi, and those I really don't care about because of the movie more than anything.

At this point I'm thinking I may slip in some main character resculpts again though...  At this piont I could easily take a new Anakin, now that I had time to think about it some.  He's not bad, but ball-jointed hips, and an actual removable arm that's still got all the articulation of a modern figure?  I'd buy that.

An all angry, borderline Sithy one, for his slaughter of the Tuskens, might be neat too, just to have near my Sand People.

Cleig was one I'm always happy to see now though...  Baby Boba not making it really disappoints me though.  I'm not totally against PAdme's, I'm just not into them enough to care about them to vote for them.  Baby Boba though...  His original figure is simply dismal.  As that goes, a new Clone Youth wouldn't hurt either...

Come to think of it, neither would a Training Clone, considering the epic fail they did on the first one.

Glad to see Picnic Padme make it. It's my biggest PT want. I am surprised to see so many females make it, too, but I guess that's because Hasbro doesn't make them. Maybe they'll hear the voices of the voters.

I see that there were many votes for Que-Mars Redath-Gom... is he the same as Sora Bulq? or were there two Weequay Jedi? Edit: I guess there were 2... different lightsaber colors and face.
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2011 Discussion

Is there someplace out there that compiles all the arena Jedi, so someone could peruse that if they wanted some inspiration for who to vote for?  For humans, I mostly just want them to complete the two that toss Ani/Obi sabers, and one of those is already done...  Just now to get the other guy.

Beyond that, even the human Jedi seem sorta picked over, though I think the guy I voted for with the goatee/greying hair was pretty badass looking IMO.  Looks like he was kicking ass and taking names so fast, he had to start taking initials.

Yeah, he was one at the top of my list I believe - he is different than Bulq, mainly in the hair I believe, robe color, and lightsaber.  I think Que-Mars Redath-Gom is maybe closer to the Master Sev we got in the Target exclusive pack - the difference being the head and the hair again.

I also voted for Sarissa Jeng, and she didn't make the cut here either.  Perhaps people didn't vote for because she has been so heavily rumored for so long others believed she was for certain coming soon - kinda like Darth Maul?

The best thing I can find is the Wookieepedia Battle of Geonosis (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/First_Battle_of_Geonosis) page. They have Survivors and Victims (should be listed as Casualties) and it's mixed with Clone Troopers and EU characters.

Sort of surprised by the Clone Wars results...more stuff from Seasons 1 and 2 than 3...partly because I guess most of the major new characters seem obvious for figures (Chewbacca, Tarkin, and the already glimpsed Savage)  Chewie and Mother Talzin are the only new S3 figures on the list.

Hasbro has repeatedly said no to Satine and Palpatine but I'd sort of like them both eventually.

Tarr Seirr still makes the list :P

ROTS is heavily heavily milked and I struggle to come up with 10 figures to list.  I don't get Hasbro's infatuation with that movie but they just continue to pump out the figures.  I think they have totally overestimated the popularity of Clones and Commanders on Vintage cards but they still keep them coming.

Lots of Padme's here to be done too but I'm not as keen on her as EpI and II for some reason.
Title: Re: Defender Wishlists 2011 Discussion

I think they overestimated the white Clone...  the others seem like they've done well though.  It's that white Clone that's a dismal failure, and ultimately he wasn't really even in the movie really...  Most of the Clones of any note were unique in either deco or whatnot.

The orange one has sold great here though, as did Cody...  I'm going to struggle to come up with 10 I want too though I'm sure.  I'm already thinking about it, and while I want some upgrades here and there, most of mine will be duplicates from my last year's list I'm sure.

I'd like to see more new CLone upgrades, but I could live without seeing the white trooper out again, ever.

I was a bit surprised too by the CW list.  I didn't vote for Chewie etc. because of the obviousness of their eventual production.  The line is extremely predictable, which may be a good or bad thing.  I thought there might be more clones on it, since there a lot that have been passed over from all three seasons and still would make great figures.

I get their fascination with it, to a degree.  It was hands down the best of the PT movies.  And it probably had the most action and lightsaber duels of any film.  That translates to a lot of play value, which is Hasbro's bread & butter.

And if you look at the PT toy lines, the ROTS line itself seemed to perform much better than the Episode I or Saga lines in their time.  So there seems to have been a track record of some success there.  Does that have something to do with the leadership in the Hasbro Star Wars team at the time of those releases?  Possibly.

For my own ROTS list I wound up going back to the characters I chose for last year's poll.  There is still some fertile ground for Hasbro to cover there, but probably not as much as some other movies.  I would put ROTS on par with TESB in terms of characters that need to be addressed.  There are very few at this point that from a collector's standpoint NEED to be touched upon.

I struggle to make a top 10 list out of the entire Prequel Trilogy that I would actually spend $10 on.  There are a few I would personally buy like Cliegg Lars, Padme Buns Style Hairdo, Naboo Pilot with a Coat, 2nd Utai, Anakin/Vader Medic Capsule, etc.  There are some variants that I would like to see like a Blue Magna Guard, Battle Damaged ROTS Kenobi, etc.  The others I would like seeing are stuff like the senators, podracers, Wookie resculpts, Kitster and Wald 2 pack, but I'm not dying for any of those.  If they end up making some then it's a bonus.  I may or may not buy them though.  I'd rather pay money on OT figures.

Yeah, ROTS is a much more action-packed movie than the other 2.  I can see why Hasbro would focus on them.  The figures are more "action-oriented" from the moment of the Arena battle until the end of ROTS.  You got your Jedi, droids, and clonetroopers, plus the main characters to pick from there.  I get it.  I would still love to get an ultimate Darth Maul though.  I'm sure he is coming next year so why bother to vote on that?

I'm all for ISB officers being done...  Technically, Wulff Yularren is one, and I think he probably should have black pants instead of white, but I'd be all for a generic one as an army builder...

I'd just prefer it based on a very definitive Imperial Officer sculpt so a generic black suited Officer takes precedence...  From there I'm all in for any deco variation of that, that can be done.

It's like a Death Star Trooper/Imperial Naval Trooper to me...  I want them to crank out the Death Squad Commander first, and from there I'm wanting a 100% screen accurate Death Star Trooper like Paul listed.  It's one of the top Imperial army builders to me that hasn't been done right.  I like the 30AC figure as a stand-in, but it's nowhere near perfect.

To be honest, it was kind of tough to pick out 10 figures for the ANH list. Other than the Larses, I'm getting down to the REALLY obscure stuff in my personal wants, like Human Jabba and Han's girlfriend. I'd dig a lot of the army builders too... good call on the Security Bureau guys.

With resculpts included though, I think ANH is one of the deepest pools around...

-Cantina Han...  Even just modifying the VOTC figure some would impress me I think.

-DSE Han...  Yeah we just got him, but he sucks IMO.

-Gunnerstation Luke...  A new head (or removable headset, which would be preferred IMO), and it's another figure knocked down.

-Ultimate Leia

-Ceremony Leia

-Ceremony Han (Still not right)

-Ceremony Luke (proper skin color, better headsculpt, proper pistol as well)

-Pilot Biggs

-Ultimate Stormtrooper

-Death Squad Commander

-Death Star Trooper

-Countless Imperial Troopers

-Chief Bast Redo

-Nabrun Leids

-Takeel

-Wuher

-Y-Wing Pilots (new and resculpts)

-X-Wing Pilots (new and resculpts)

-Rebel Yavin Officers

-Capt. Antilles

-Sandpeople Resculpt

-Owen

-Beru

And that's just to start...  I mean, there's a lot of stuff that could get updated to modern standards from the Cantina.  Is some of it tough to justify?  I think that varies I guess.  Malikili was tough to justify, but he's a hell of a better figure now...  It makes me think things like Ellors Madak, or whatnot, could really use a bump up in quality.

For brand new stuff it's tapped, but I can't think of many of the films that aren't down to oddities now, as far as totally new stuff goes.

I think ROTJ is just as deep a pool (which means we'll have something to do for a few more years). I can't wait for that wishlist.

Just looking at many of the Jabba's palace aliens, I can't wait for Hasbro to give us more from that film. I'm going to be a happy, happy man when Squid Head gets a refresh. And a classic Sy Snootles would be the icing on the cake.

Little bummed on the ROTJ wants, but I can't be surprised either.  I'm shocked the Endor Rebel didn't make teh cut though.  There's TWO uniforms we still need done in the modern line and I'd say the guys with the vests need redone too.  I'd take all 3 above/beyond the ROTJ's finalists.

Not to say there aren't some on there I didn't vote for, just not as many as on other lists I guess.  :-\

That #10 spot was hotly contested between the Endor Trooper, Emperor's Royal Guard and Lando Skiff Guard.  I was suprised at the jump of both the Emperor (who I think has been done to death but I get why people voted for him) and the Ishi Tib which has been getting lots of buzz all over the various forums lately.

I keep track of where the Toyfare 2009 poll people land on here too and Cane Adiss always only receives a handful of results here.  I know there are a lot of sites out there that really pull for Cane to get a fig and that is sort of a head scratcher to me...

Yes, on the left when Chewie is being brought down to the dungeon (before Lando reveals himself). And I think behind Han after he is released from the carbonite.

RE:  The Emporer - I just don't get a sense that we've gotten a definitive ROTJ Emporer.  In this age of the definitive version of core characters I get the sense that we've got PT era Palpatine covered, but not ROTJ.  There have been some attempts at the Emporer (Order 66 comes to mind), but they've really just been kitbashes of PT Palpatine.

The Jabba's Palace Ishi Tib has been on my own list for a few years now.  I think Jabba's palace is getting to the point where the character choices are getting slimmer, and characters like Shasa Tiel are getting their turn.

Cane Addis seems like that last, large alien along the lines of Amanaman, etc.  Cane barely gets any camera time, but is cool enough that I'd like to see him get made.

My own point of disappointment?  No love for the giant mouse droid from the Death Star.  Oh well.

I am actually very happy to see the Emperor on that list. I've wanted a ROTJ Emperor with throne for a long time now. It would also be nice to have the Imperial guards redone as well.

Jabba's court has a lot of characters competed, but many of them need to be redone at this point. Glad to see several on the list. I hear you on the Endor rebels, Jesse...but I think we'll be seeing those guys soon enough.

Thats a nice list - a little light on the Jabba henchmen for my liking (it should be all jabba goons or ewoks imo) but I would buy them all up without hesitation

I hope...  And he's not the only one I was disappointed on, just one that I was meh that he didn't make the list.

Palpatine, I'd take a new one, but honestly what we have is kind of nice too.  I just wish he wasn't cackling.  I could use a new one I just don't have the itch for the throne I guess.

Cane Adiss is neat but not a huge want for me.  Just neat...  Doallyn was one I was glad to see make it again.  I always like when he's on people's minds, which seems like often.  I mean the dude's chucked down the steps and has a funny voice.  What more can you want a background nobody to do?

Royal Guard I think is a done deal.  The new Senate Guard is almost a given, I believe, that we'll see it repurposed for AOTC/ROTS/ROTJ Guards now.  Just with better softgoods and new heads.  He even got the pike that, if I'm not mistaken, the guards in TPM didn't even have.

The Ewoks are good too...  Assuming those are the AT-ST Hijackers.  I can totally see that new AT-ST making a return appearance with a more specific deco to the hijacked one, and coming with some Ewok repaints rocking new hats.  Just my opinion, but I can definitely see it happening.  Maybe a Chewie too or something.

Hasbro seemed to indicate around the time that the new AT-ST was released that they might have an "AT-ST Hijackers" battle pack in the works with Widdle, Oochee and Chewbacca.  Seeing how the battle packs have now been streamlined down to THREE figures, maybe this is something that will get revealed at SDCC.

They have also hinted at an Ewok exclusive pack which would include movie and TV movie figures

After revisiting some databank of otc and saga, I realized we had an early version of the snowtrooper commander, but he wasn´t depicted in a natural position, more intended to look as a gunner.

Thinking about this update, I wonder if a recipe could contain:

-tvc at at commander chest armor
-tlc at at driver boots and gloves
-a larger skirt soft goods preferably
-head under helmet: something like Cody, Bly, etc
helmet mask: with the top part a bit highlighted as a different layer.
The holster on right side of belt

The figure needs to be taller than saga legends tvc snowtrooper, requires
more poseability, he has to acquire a nice neutral "ready" stance.

Tournie is going to be rough this year.  A couple movies/categories don't have my attention much at all thsi time around, which one would think would help I guess, but it just seems like selections are getting tougher now that a lot of my greatest wishes have been fulfilled in the line.

Resculpts ahoy though!

BTW,

That's an EU list I could go nuts for, that won the EU category...

Noghri Warrior, Dash resculpt, Pelleon, Jan Ors, Leebo, T3 from KOTOR...  Nice.

-R5-A7 (G8-R3) - ON THE WAY (WalMart exclusive)
-Naboo Pilot - ON THE WAY (WalMart exclusive)
-Ben Quadinaros - ON THE WAY (WalMart exclusive)
-Mawhonic - ON THE WAY (WalMart exclusive)

No doubt on that one - I was scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to fill out my list, with those five lopped off, it'll be even harder next year to come up with ten figures I want from Ep1.  :-\

Yeah, that's cool that 5 have been knocked off the list. Some of the main and secondary characters need updated, though. I wonder if Scott will move up the next 5 'finalists' on the list to choose from for the Tournament?

Which is why I waited on SDCC...

Anakin Skywalker (Pod Race)
PK Droid
Ann and Tann Gella
C-3PO
Senator Palpatine

Are the next 5 on the list :-*

Resculpts are even going to make it harder too...  Ric Olie, etc.  Those were the guys I was voting for, generally.

Awesome... now to start thinking about the list.

I'll be honest, I didn't have an easy time picking figures for the tournie this year, not so much because I was giddy at the choices, but more because I thought a lot are boring or kind of inevitable because Hasbro's at the bottom of the barrel.

I leaned to EU, and some Cantina aliens, some officers from the background...  That kind of stuff I think.  CW was tickling my fancy a little, but I wound up axing them all off for movie characters.

I was surprised I picked anything from ROTS, actually.

ESB is losing ground with me...  I think Wedge will get his SS figure so I wound up skipping him despite wanting him pretty badly.

I'd like to see some of the Rebel Commando variants make the list, but none did so I think this maybe was the first year, ever, without a Rebel Trooper for me to vote for...  Good, but bad too.  Torryn Far counts I guess, but the Hoth Technicians didn't make it either, and that disappointed me.  They were everywhere, seen "wrangling" Taun-Tauns and stuff, and for them to not make the cut really sucks.  :-\

I just can't get giddy for senators, Padmes (dead or alive), and even Leia's don't get my goat.  I'm actually content enough with VOTC Lando I couldn't vote for him, though I'd buy a new one sure.  It's the stuff like Cantina Wolf guy or Mosep, or EU characters like Jan Ors and Noghri Warrior that make me wish Hasbro would crank them out since they seem less likely I guess.

I think I'm on Rebel Trooper withdrawals now, not having any to vote for.  That...  that was odd.

I love Ewoks, so I was going to vote for Lumat, but he is already confirmed for release next year.

hmmm I don't remember this confirmation - not that I am doubting you.  I went over the first page and it seems several of us have a vote for him.  Mods, should we all adjust our votes on this one?

If Lumat wasnt already confirmed, I'd vote for him, or any other ewok for that matter.  Hasbro confirmed him in the Q&A that was sent out during SDCC - expect a 2012 release.

Mods, should we all adjust our votes on this one?

They said...

"By the end of 2012 some of these gaps will be filled, with, for instance, figures like Lumat."

If that is enough for you to change your vote, go ahead.  If you want to leave it to support a Lumat/Wompus 2-pack or just the Wompus half of the tag, then leave it as is.  Doesn't matter...

Good point - without it, especially how it is set up as a combo here - if we removed it there would be no Ewoks on the list.  I am not going to not support Ewoks in any fashion.  I am leaving my vote as it stands.

Just for the record, I might be one of the strongest supporters of Ewoks in the known universe, lol - so I want to see them all made - look at my avatar!  ;)  I was just trying to be helpful in pointing out that Lumat has been confirmed, not to mention, Hasbro wont even allow us to create our own 2-pack scenerios in these contests - they mentioned that in 2009.  I was trying to ensure that if we vote Lumat/Wompus into the top ten, Hasbro wont simply remove it after receiving it...
