I've seen this image on several sites already.  Please tell me that's just a bad photoshop attempt on the nosecone of Screamer?

I like the nod to Cobra/Decepticon alliance.

It's neat, but all I really want is the little Megatron accessory.  :-\

You could always just order it off Marauder Inc.  They have basically the same thing.

Jesse is spot on Marauders Gun Runners has a megatron in 18/scale alt mode with all the trimmings. (you would have to add silver.)

Marauders is great, I am helping him now with a project for 1/18.

Iam not really a fan of GI Joe or Transformers but if it is legit, i think it makes for a nice exclusive.

Somewhere I heard that the SkyStriker would only seat one pilot, but that cockpit looks like there's room for two.  Anybody know for sure what the deal is?

I've heard that it will hold one pilot AND that it will hold two pilots.

Let me be the first to start the rumor that it will hold five pilots.  :P

The photos that Hasbro put out show both the regular release and the SDCC exclusive with two seats.  The Sky Striker that was on display at TF had only 1 seat.  I believe Hasbro said that it will have one seat and that they decided to do a more detailed cockpit with one seat instead of less detail and 2.

Starscream was an F-15 Eagle, not an F-14 Tomcast. EPIC FAIL.  :P

I could care less - it's the best of both worlds IMO.  I would have gone ape**** for this in the 80's.  Hope for more TF/Joe crossovers in the future.

Same here.  I'm not a big enough TF fan to really feel the need for something like this, but the Commander is cool.  I still think I'm going to get the regular Joe release of the Sky Striker, though.

I personally would dig a one-seater since I think 2-seaters aren't common in modern fighters...  I could be wrong as I don't keep up with the current birds but I think having Goose with you doesn't fly these days... no pun intended.

I don't believe the US has any currently active 2-seater fighter planes (not counting trainers).  I think people's only complaint, well, other than it's not accurate to the original release, is that the F-14 was a 2-seater so that makes it inaccurate to the plane itself, not just the toy.

I can see that point, and I don't disagree, but I'm not a hard core Joe collector so it doesn't bother me.  But, generally, I'm easy like that anyway.  That's why the new Clone Wars Attack Shuttle not seating 2 in the cockpit or that the ramp isn't big enough to stand figures on doesn't bother me either.  Or why I feel that people complaining about the BMF Falcon not having an open hallway from the cockpit to the play area are generally douchebags.

yeah I actually do like transformers a lot but it feels very wrong to me I don't know how to explain it. I am really excited about the normal one and would like around 3. I would prefer them being a 2 seater I am not sure what the deal is since it was kind of cluster poop with toyfair regarding the number of seats.
Title: Re: SDCC Starscream/Cobra Commander
Post by: Jesse James on February 21, 2011, 05:07 PM
My reaction to their complaints about it not being a 2-seater then would be that an accurate F-14 would be much larger than the Skystriker is, so bitching about the seat numbers becomes a moot point. ;D

I always looked at GIJ vehicles as mods of existing military hardware that were more expensive and advanced...  I mean, the skystriker (and other GIJ vehicles) always were doing things that were absurd compared to what the real-world counterpart could actually accomplish.  Rattlers were glorified A-10's...  You wouldn't see A10's and F14's dogfighting, so worrying about accuracy (to being one or two seater) with the Skystriker just hits me kind of funny I guess.  :)

Now the 1:18 guys...  They'd be throwing a canniption if it was a 1:18 F14 without two seats, but it'd make more sense to me I guess.

You make an interesting point, Jesse, most of the vehicles in the Joe line are complete fiction, or fictionized versions of real vehicles.  The F-14 Sky Striker is one of the few that are direct translations.  If they can buy the X-19 or Defiant then they shouldn't be too hard on the 1-seat Sky Striker.

But we all know how collectors are.

Some of the realistic designs out of the Joe team are surprisng.  Like the Mauler...  I had no idea it was a real tank that was prototyped and it's relatively accurate in size.

The Skystriker thing, like I said about 2-seaters they're kind of "out" these days, so I personally like a one-seater, but like you said...  collectors.  And I can see their point from a nostalgia POV, but for me I look at the modern guys as improvements, and the vehicles similarly.  Loolk at the Vamp for instance.  That's neat to me...  It's nowhere in the ballpark of the original Vamps, but it's more along the lines of what I think the Joes should have.  I'd have probably altered the Skystriker a bit more than they did even.  Instead of the dual tail fins, maybe do one, etc.

GIJ stuff to me though was always meant to be advanced...  superior to what the regular military would have.  Smaller jets that can do more acrobatic stuff with more advanced weapons, tanks that could make an Abrams look like a Stuart on the battlefield of today, trucks that ate Humvee's for breakfast and would lead the column of Humvee's with green shirts in them.  Green Shirts had to deal with the "old" hardware. ;)

I like green shirts they are like star treks red shirts, which is funny because you know they are going to die.

back on topic I could careless myself if it has one or two seats, tho i do think that if it is going out with the 30th line it should have two seats for accuracy.

But i believe it is going to have two seats. out side of one presentation slide with one seat every other picture shows 2. no matter I want the ace pilots for my New BBI f-16s anyway sporting that kick butt state of the art F-22 helmet.

The vehicle they had in the showroom had only one seat.  Plus I believe it was reported from the floor that Hasbro confirmed one seat.

The MSRP in the press release is only $29.99 I believe.  I'm expecting it to be more like $34.99 in stores, though. The Night Raven started out at a ridiculous $39.99 originally so I don't know how Hasbro is going to get this out for $10 cheaper.  But, we'll see.  IMO it's a steal at $30.

Anyone remember what the Target exclusive Conquest sold for?

No electronics in the Stryker.  I'm pretty sure the Screamer repaint will come in at $40+

Ha!  I own the damn Night Raven and didn't even remember that it took batteries.  Or never paid attention.  It's been boxed and out of sight for a year.  I'm not a big fan of it, but now that there's a Sky Striker coming, I may hold on to it just to give my Cobra troops a fighting chance.

I would expect the SDCC exclusive to be $40+ also.

TNI (http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=9&itemid=17182) is reporting in their GI Joe Q&A that Hasbro is selling the Starscream SDCC set for $49.99 and "will" be available on HTS after the show.

For $50, if I can get one, I think I will.  I think it's pretty cool.

very good to hear this - especially the price - I thought it was shown at $80 before.  It says most exclusives will be available online - so I am hopeful for most of them   ;D

I think the DPCI surfaced awhile back for the Skystryker at $34.99 so $15 more isn't too much of a set back - that is if HTS will let me buy one...
Title: Re: SDCC Starscream/Cobra Commander
Post by: efranks on April 29, 2011, 12:58 AM
Yeah, there was an early report of $80 from the Con.  Not sure if the reporting sites just got it wrong and ran with it or if something changed, but $50 is a much more reasonable price, IMO, for a limited exclusive.  ****, I'm surprised the Skystriker isn't $50 retail.  If it were a SW ship that size it probably would be...and it would be exclusive as well.

I think the $34.99 price may have been an error also, but I got tired of following the Hiss Tank thread about it so maybe it was backed up.  Either way, $30-$35 is fine, I'm not going to lose my mind over $5.

I think if you read the Joe boards, or at least the Tank, there's a panic over this year's SDCC exclusives based on last year's Slaughter issue.  Even though the PDD and Cobra Commanders went fast, Slaughter was a special issue, one which I don't think Hasbro is going to have this time around since they own 100% of the characters that they're making.  And I even saw someone try to compare the Dial-Tone issue to SDCC but they're entirely different situations.  I'm not worried.  Be at the computer Monday after SDCC and it shouldn't be too hard.  Zarana should be relatively easy to get but I do think the Starscream repaint will be tougher since there are two markets for it.

Hell, the same thing is happening with Star Wars, E...  There seems to be some carry-over from that line to the SW one where people feel because the exclusives went fairly decently last year, that now those Indiana Jones sets could be tough finds, and so on.  I think it's always a possibility, but history seems to indicate that Slaughter was the exception more than the rule.
Title: Re: SDCC Starscream/Cobra Commander

The SDCC SW comic pack from last year actually hung around on HTS for a while.  I bought one when they first went up but they were on for quite a while.  I actually was surprised when I noticed they were finally gone from the site.

The Zarana figure should be popular with Joe fans, but other than some speculators, that's about it.  The Starscream variant is a different story, it's going to be popular with both Joe and TF collectors and I wouldn't be surprised to see a sellout at SDCC, but I also think Hasbro will make enough that there will be some online.  They own this one so they’re going to make as much scratch on it as possible.

The Indiana Jones set is a big question mark IMO.  It's a set of figures that are arguably more popular than 2 of the 4 waves we did get.  That alone could make it hard to get.  But the thing that hinders that set is probably going to be the price.  It’s not going to be cheap, and that should turn away the amateur speculators.  I haven’t been able to make a call on this one.  Could go either way, but again, I think Hasbro will try to get as many of this set out as they can and we should have a chance at it on HTS and SSW.  I just dread what the shipping is going to be on it.

The IJ set speculation reminds me of an article Joe K had me read about SDCC.  It was sort of a recap/commentary on the show (I think it was the 2009 show) by a guy that writes for one of the comic book publications.  Anyway, one of the things he talked about as part of his commentary was about the attendees that were walking around on day 1, already broke, and their only goal was trying to be the first to Tweet or Facebook some scoop about a movie or toy line or whatnot.  I think his basic comment was that while a lot of people attend that show to buy stuff, a lot more, and he thought it was a trend, are just attending to try and reap some glory by being “first” to get some piece of news out even if it breaks them.

A lot of those types are the target audience for these collectibles but if they have no money to spend who is left to buy?  Us.  Sitting at home (or possibly work) in a comfy chair, mashing the F5 key and whoring out our CC numbers...but still saving hundreds (thousands?) in plane, hotel, ticket and food costs.

I new the $80 came from somewhere but I don't know if I remember seeing that price tag in the display case.  I think I got the info from a recap reort or twitter free from the Hasbro Q&A.  So must be Hasbro changed their mind?  I bet there was a lot of grumbling at the show over that $50 markup from the regular release.
