I'm definitely in again.  Hopefully I'll be able to make the draft this year.  Got stuck with the autodraft last year and had a pretty mediocre team.

4 straight seasons in 2nd place.  This has to be the year I finally do it.

Finish last.

If it's any consolation I enjoyed it when you were my bitch.   :-*

For two of those I was enjoying him being mine.  The other two I was stuck on auto-draft and never had a chance.

Man.  From another point of view though, if you average everyone's place in the standings the past 4 seasons, I doubt anyone is higher than my 2.0 average.

Actually if you do all-time place in the standings and toss in my 2 championships, I'm willing to bet I'm #1 in average place in the standings lifetime.

I wouldn't feel good about averaging like that, because I flat out missed the draft in 2009 and 2010 and there seems to be a direct correlation between that and how well I do overall.

2011 - 1 of 8
2010 - 8 of 9
2009 - 6 of 7
2008 - 1 of 8

2007 - 3 of 8
2006 - 3 of 7
2005 - 5 of 8

If we're measuring our dongs here though... I'll just throw out there that I'm currently the defending champ in Baseball, Football, and Hockey.

I'll make sure I fight you to the death in basketball then.  There's no way I'm letting you be a 4 sport champion in the same year.

I noticed I'm 1 today, but I don't think it'll happen.  I've got a big problem at SG, and no one seems to want to trade me one for David Lee, who I can't really use.  Also, Al Horford disappearing early hasn't been great for me either.

I'm ok with my baseball record.  Especially since I'm Canadian.  There's like what?  Three Canadians in all of MLB?

2011 6 of 8
2010 1 of 9
2009 1 of 7
2008 5 of 8
2007 2 of 8
2006 1 of 7
2005 3 of 8

Medals in all but two years, three wins.  So while your average placing may or may not be better than mine I still have more wins than anyone else in baseball.  Seven years 3W for me, 2W for Rob meaning at best you can only have two.

I'll whip mine out...avg finish 2.7 :P

2011 4 of 8
2010 3 of 9
2009 3 of 7
2008 4 of 8
2007 1 of 8
2006 2 of 7
2005 2 of 8

Are we still drafting tomorrow if we only have 5?  Not that it matters as I won't be able to join live tomorrow anyway, just wasn't sure if we wanted more people or not.

I don't think we can really do much with five.  Anyone else know anyone that wants to sign up on short notice?  I can create a dummy team as well that just sits there.

I have not signed up yet.  If you guys can't have a league if I sit out, I'll probably play.  But otherwise I'm just going to sit the year out.  I have too many hobbies right now.  And when I play, I go for the jugular and spend a lot of time on it and following box scores.

You should play.  It's not the same without you in there.  Also, maybe you could use it as an exercise in playing fantasy sports without driving yourself insane.  I check once or twice a day for a few minutes.

When I drafted Cabrera, I thought he'd be my 3B, but he's only got 1B designation.  Any idea if that's going to change?  Everything I read calls him the Tigers 3B, and say she took ground balls at 3rd, and that he got hit in the face fielding a ball at 3rd, etc...

He'll need to play 5 to 10 games there before Yahoo will give him the eligibility.

Ah, okay, so this is a new thing because of Prince Fielder then... that's lame that they can't just do that if it's obvious where he'll be playing this season.

3B is not really new to Cabrera, he played there plenty in the minor leagues and for Florida.  I think the move to Detroit was when he really started at first everyday.

Yep, I just meant new compared to last year... new in terms of Yahoo designations.

Another question, have we ever considered expanding the bench by a spot or two?  I'm constantly feeling like I need another player or two but have nowhere to put them.  I know that's part of the challenge, but I'd be totally into a slightly expanded roster.

I'm for it too, as long as the vote is unanimous.  If it's not then we can institute it for next year.

It seems like even Yahoo hasn't picked up on it yet, but Ellsbury is gonna go down for 2 months with that shoulder dislocation from last night.

I see Carl Crawford is well into his 2nd season of acute vaginitis with some vulvular strain mixed in.

The guy hasn't done a damn thing since 2010.  What a move by the Rays to dump him.  I imagine it wasn't very popular in Tampa at the time with the fans, but what vindication for management thus far.

It's true.  He was Mr. Ray if there ever was one.  But they didn't have the money to sign him for what Boston offered, not by a longshot.

Sounds like he's headed to see Dr. James Andrews, Sports Medicine Czar. (http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7853945/carl-crawford-boston-red-sox-see-dr-james-andrews-sore-elbow)

Thanks for drafting him right ahead of me.   :-*

Need big studly bats.

Now accepting proposals.

Post by: Rob on May 26, 2012, 11:02 PM
I apparently have neither.

Seriously... my team should be good, and they are abysmal.  I can't buy a 1-2-3 inning to save my life, and until today, my average day at the plate is like 3 for 35 with 1 run and 2 RBI.  Halladay is average at best... ugh.
Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012
Post by: Morgbug on May 26, 2012, 11:38 PM
Is it Halladay or is it the lack of run support?  Cliff Lee is winless.  Painful.
Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012
Post by: Rob on May 27, 2012, 01:51 AM
Both... run support is killing him in wins, but his ERA has been bad by his standards too - it's at 3.58 right now.

That trade that just went through was terrible.  You guys shouldn't have let that one slide.  And the 1st place team who is ahead by 10 points is the beneficiary, to make it worse.

After drafting Halladay and Hernandez with my 2nd (13) and 4th (27) rounders, I just now today finally got the kind of day I envisioned from them:

Also, after spending most of the season in dead last, I'm at least temporarily in 2nd today.  I don't believe it.

Guys
I want to drop Adam Jones but he's on the can't cut list.  I can change that easily enough as the commissioner, but I need permission from you guys to do so.

The can't cut list is set by Yahoo, not us.  It is a setting I can change to no "can't cut" players or leave as the Yahoo setting.

So can I go ahead or not?
Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012
Post by: Rob on August 19, 2012, 01:08 AM
I'm missing something I think...  Looking at your roster why wouldn't you drop Zobrist or Stubbs before dropping Jones?

On the surface of it, I think it's your team and you should be allowed to as long as it's obvious that you're not stacking the deck... but I'd probably trade you for the guy (I just lost Melky Cabrera (serious hit to my team) and could use an OF) if you're interested in parting with him.
Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012

I'll look at your roster and let you know.
Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012
Post by: Dressel Rebel on August 19, 2012, 08:26 PM
The can't cut list never makes any sense to me.  It floats week to week.  Sometimes my studs are on it, other weeks they aren't.  It's a pain in the parts, and in the past the commissioner has always granted can't cut list players to be dropped if the owner requested.  Most often those events were due to severe injury to the player.

In any event, feel free to cut "can't cut list" players.  I'm fine with it.  And it's always been that way from what I recall.
Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012
Post by: Morgbug on August 20, 2012, 05:48 PM
Thanks Matt.

Digging into it a bit it's not a standard setting for smaller leagues like ours, but it is a default setting for yahoo.  So unless the commissioner turns it off it's there ::)

I ended up dropping Stubbs, so it's not an issue.  Rob, nothing appealed on your roster that I thought you'd part with for Jones.  If you want to make an offer for him of what you're willing to give up we'll see if we can work something out.

I'll leave the can't cut list alone for now, but will turn it off in a week or so.  I'll try and remember to not have it there in future leagues.

Gracias.

A bit surprised really given where I was in June/July but seemed to come back.  Sure not especially thrilled with my first pick and my second pick had some mighty bad luck on the year.  But three out of four years gives me a big, old smile on my face.   :)

My hitters completely fell apart there in August...I thought I had it all sewn up there for a while...long season and all that

Congrats too to DR for catching me on the last day.  I wasn't paying attention to my innings or I might of tried the old Start 7 pitchers on the last day trick

Title: Re: Jedidefender Fantasy Baseball 2012
Post by: Rob on October 5, 2012, 10:56 AM
My whole team crumbled too... I spent the whole first half in last, but climbed all the way to first with then my pitching started to get mediocre (Felix Hernandez I'm looking at you), one of my Cabreras got caught doping....  Injuries to Jacoby Ellsbury, Mark Teixera, Ian Walker, and Mike Napoli didn't help... and I could have done a much better job using my games... I had 59 games left and 45 innings that I didn't use.

It feels like a wasted season too with the free agent pick up of the decade (Trout - he's a top 3 pick next year) and the first triple crown winner in forever on my team.
