Leia looks awesome. I wish I would have looked at Emperor's Wrath more (it comes with the audio clip of his saying "Noooo. Noooooooo!" just to piss off the fanboys. J/K). Damn... too busy taking pictures.

Sweet! A wave with Sandtrooper, a Clone Lieutenant and a Shocktrooper! Hasbro's definitely not completely overestimating the popularity of clones again.

That Bespin Leia looks great though, and Pruney is much needed. I'm also looking forward to replacing my EW Vader, and hell, even Jar Jar looks good.

I like the look of the Old Republic Trooper as well...I'd like to see more of that one.

And did I see the little recon droid too?  In your pic (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/files/gallery/Conventions/Toy_Fair_2012/Hasbro_Star_Wars/PICT0168.JPG), you can see it at his feet.

New gun, new orange pauldron, and the little recon droid?  That will get me to buy a couple more Sandtroopers for sure...  :-[

Yeah, it comes with a sentry droid. I had taken a close-up of it but my camera was acting up and was all blurry.  :(

Cool wave...  If you get past the fact it's more Clones.  I like the Sandtrooper, but the Clones I'm just not as into.  I'll maybe get this wave in a case because army builders are army builders, but still this one is rough to take after a year of Clones and Sandtroopers being the peg rotters that they were.

I love the Republic Trooper, and will pick a few of him up to have a little squad.  Love the TOR figures in general.  That overly bulky armor is all kinds of fantastic.

Glad you finally got your Orrimarko resculpt DR. :)

I actually like every figure in this wave.  I will probably leave the Republic Trooper because I just don't care but it's a nice figure regardless.  Oddly enough I am probably most excited for the Bespin Gown Leia.  Jar-Jar turned out well.  I actually am happy to get the Shocktrooper and the Blue AOTC trooper.  I am a sucker for the orange pauldron Sandtroopers.  Prune Face looks great.  I think he'll look good with the other Dresslian they released in the Legacy line.  The Vader Wrath of is something different at least for Vader.  Good stuff in this wave alltogether IMO.

VC108 Jar Jar Binks - turned out very well

VC109 Clone Lieutenant (Blue) - whatever

VC110 Episode III Shock Trooper - ditto

VC111 Princess Leia Bespin Gown - you know, she's nice, but I actually like the detail on the last one better.

VC112 Sandtrooper (Orange Pauldron) - sigh.

VC113 Repulbic Trooper The Old Republic - I kind of like him.

VC114 Prune Face - Cool.  Wow, it's like it's ROTJ's anniversary or something.

VC115 Darth Vader Emperor's Wrath - If he's based on the new ANH one, then cool, but not a figure I really wanted.  Again.  I would have preferred just a straight removable helmet Vader vintage card.

I like how horribly painted the Republic Trooper Prototype is cmpared to Hasbro's official product image in our gallery...

It really didn't even look like the character it's based on.

I'm definitely army building him, just wish he had a different helmet packed in so he was a little more generic.  I think they didn't all have visors IIRC.  Still love him.  My fave of the wave I think.

Interesting case assortment. With 8 new figures I hope it sells through well. Lovin' the OT figures, but I'm not sure if the Leia would have been on my list for a redo yet.

Pretty nice wave.  Like some others, I don't get too excited about clones anymore, but they do at least look well done.  I'm not usually into the TOR stuff as much, since I know nothing about it, but that trooper looks pretty fantastic.  I never really thought much about wanting a new Bespin Leia, but this one looks pretty amazing and quite a bit nicer than the previous (OTC?) version - which was nice too.  Nice to get an updated Jar Jar here too, looks to be a little nicer than the upcoming Movie Heroes version.
Title: Re: 2012 "Vintage" Collection Wave 17
Post by: Nicklab on February 12, 2012, 11:03 PM
The Clones and Sandtrooper are definitely head scratchers.  Especially considering how other Clones & Sandtroopers in the TVC line have sold (or haven't sold).  I see these as an exercise in Hasbro trying to get some value out of new tooling, and little else.

As for the rest?

The Bespin Leia is cool.  It's an improvement on the OTC Bespin Leia, which is now about 8 years old.  If I had my druthers, I would update the Bespin Escape Leia before this one.  Especially with the tie-in to the Carbon Freeze Chamber exclusive - Leia is in the Bespin Escape outfit for that scene!

A new Prunceface is a curiosity, but it fits an overall theme of revisiting a bunch of the characters that were some of the more notable late era POTF2 figures.

The Emporer's Wrath Vader actually looks kind of cool.  This is one instance where I think some electronics could really enhance the figure.

Jar Jar?  He looks okay, I suppose.  I'm surprised that there isn't more lingering hate for Jar Jar, but I think that's been redirected elsewhere given the overall reactions to the prequels.

As for the TOR Republic Trooper?  I think it looks pretty awesome.  Still, the character seems SO derivative of the PT Clones, and notably Commander Cody that you can't help but compare them.  Yet, this does breathe a little bit of new life into the figure line since the character choices are continually being diminished as Hasbro plows through them.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how well-done that Jar-Jar is... but considering who he is, why didn't Hasbro opt to give him a more silly look? They probably figured that if they did that then Jar-Jar haters would buy it just to set it on fire.

Emperor's Wrath Vader really threw me off... sort of a weird choice. It'll be interesting to see what the card looks like. No ball-joint hips on this one, which is disappointing. I wonder why they sculpted his right hand a fist instead of sculpting a mechanical stump, which would be screen accurate. Maybe the hand is removeable.

If you look at the UGH (Lost Wave) variant covers that will be released (the same ones that will be at SDCC), it will be electo-Vader. There's a pic on the front page... or click on the link of the photo I took at Toy Fair: http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Conventions/Toy_Fair_2012/Hasbro_Star_Wars&image=PICT0251.JPG&img=&tt=

The more I look at this wave, the more I don't give a ****.

Anyone wanting the rest of it wanna hook me up with a Sandtrooper?  It's the only figure I'd be dying to have.  I would like Leia too, but then again she does nothing in that outfit...  This wave is definitely nothing I'd go out of my way to buy, like via a case...

I could live with MH Jar Jar if I picked him up.  I could live with the last Bespin Leia or a custom I figure out at some point...

The Sandtrooper is about all I care about.

To my eyes, they don't look new, but new decoes and all that.  A helmet might be changed on the Clone perhaps, but I don't see anything to indicate that one way or the other yet.

I would not say any of these figures are 'Must" buys for me, but I still like how they all turned out.  Vader looks much better than I thought he would.  I actually want the clonetroopers.  Leia looks like a nice update from previous versions.  Jar-Jar actually looks decent.  I'm a sucker for Sandtroopers especially orange pauldron versions.  Is Prune Face in this wave?

No, he's in, I think, the next wave...

This is Jar Jar, Bespin Leia, AOTC Clone Lt., Sandtrooper, Lightning Vader, and...  someone I'm forgetting, but I think it's the Red ROTS Clone Shocktrooper.

Yes, the TVC one is super articulated, with a soft goods tunic, etc.  The MH is decent, but this other one appears to be quite a bit better.

I'd say in every way it's vastly superior Lando...

The paint aps are wildly superior to the MH one, and the sculpt is also a good notch above.  The articulation almost is a non-issue since the MH one is probably "good enough" for many, but this one of course is a lot more heavily articulated.

I'd say, honestly, the paint aps and sculpt are where it's head and shoulders above MH though.  One looks like a toy, and one looks like a little replica.

I see that this wave is now in-stock at places like Entertainment Earth (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS37499F&id=HA-807301583).

At this point, I think I've completely switched over to on-line buying for my 3.75" SW fix.  Last wave I spotted at retail was the Malgus wave and sadly, I think that's a lot better luck than a lot of you out there have had finding new stuff. :(

For me, I've been buying online for everything except the TPM & BluRay waves. I found the Malgus wave once, but everything else was a buy-by-the-case/set purchase from EE, BBTS or HTS.

I've given up trying to find Vintage at retail and the result will be that I'll be making close to a $250 Toys-for-Tots donation at the end of the year courtesy of all of the carry-forward figures I have (I currently have 23).

I have two cases of the Lost Line/Vintage Variant wave coming to supplement the Carbon Freeze Chamber set I'm getting from HTS. I'm keeping one set of figures on both card versions MOC and the other case is going to be my double-openers.

This case was really a miracle since it meant I was going to be able to get, with as few purchases as possible AND zero figures I didn't - everything I needed to be "done" with the wave.

The only figures I've seen in NYC have been the TPM wave. Before that, it was seriously Vintage Collection wave 1 (Dengar, Cloud Car Pilot, etc). Oh, but I've seen many Celebration Han Solos...  ::)

Online is the way to go.

I'm slowly converting to an online buyer as well. I bought one of the Wave 4 revision cases from HTS a few weeks ago and it felt awesome to just get almost everything new delivered to my door all at once. Last full wave I saw in stores was the Blu-Ray wave back in February.

The only thing stopping me from ordering a case of this wave is that I don't want the duplicate Vader, Leia or Jar Jar, though I suppose I could trade those away for figures I still need (like Tarkin and the INC)
Title: Re: 2012 "Vintage" Collection Wave 17
Post by: Jesse James on July 23, 2012, 11:46 PM
Since I've found a local friend to go in with and save on shipping, I'm a tad happier about buying online only.

I picked up Wave 4 at a K-Mart locally, which gave me some extras.  That was the last wave I saw, and I saw remnants (repacks) of it once I believe at a Wal-Mart but none of the new(er) figures were there.  Just the Wave 2 Luke and the Star Wars Vader were all I saw (well, Vader's newer I guess).

I never saw Malgus wave, anywhere, but in the case I got....  This wave seemed to have been seriously stunted.  Acxtually Wave two with the DS figuers seemed stunted too, come to think of it.  I only saw it, or remnants, 2 or 3 times IIRC.  Part of me honestly thinks Hasbro saw the writing on the wall, and that 2 waves deep with TPM repacks was a big mistake, and they didn't let many of these out of the gate if they could.

Wave 4 SEEMED to hit more...  Not here, but other areas seemed to see it semi-frequently, at least relatively speaking anyway.

Wave 5 I've barely heard a whisper of people finding it at all really.

Wave 6...  maybe it's a turning point?  Probably not.

From what I've seen, most retailers have their re-order points set to basically the pegs being bare.  Target it seems pretty solidified since people clear the pegs, and then a re-order takes place at some point.  WM it's more difficult to say for sure.  K-Mart, at least here, hasn't had a ton on the pegs since the year began...  Actually, most of mine didn't order Wave 1, which has been to their benefit.  I've seen more new Clone Wars there than anything.  The only TPM figures I saw at K-Mart were from the Deleted Scene wave's repacks.

I picked up most of this wave yesterday, thanks to a friend who owns a local comic book store.  I got both card versions of Bespin Leia, Vader, Clone Trooper Lieutenant, and Sandtrooper.  Couldn't bring myself to buy Jar Jar.  Passed on the Shock Trooper.  I'm not sure if this wave or the next will make it to retail, and if it does, I'm thinking it will be limited like wave 5.  While I totally love the vintage cards, I really dig the blue cards as well.

TVC depicts the first figure with different colors for her suit.

Perhaps in the future we would learn more secrets about the saga costumes, like that which comes with tvc ponda baba

I agree.  I think the vintage version looks like crap with an overall "dull" look that lacks detail.  While I absolutely despise Jar Jar and would never buy a figure of him, I did see it 1st hand and was completely underwhelmed.

Yep, for me the MH Jar Jar wins by a mile. The deco on the arms is all wrong for the TVC/LL version and the mismatched joints are a step backward too. And that double jointed neck  ::) I'm tempted to put the soft good skirt on the MH figure and call that the "ultimate" version.

TVC/LL = A for effort but C for execution.

Despite being a mere repaint, the Sandtrooper figure from this wave really impressed me, and has become one of my favorite figures of the year. The new blaster with folding stock and sentry droid are nice touches, but the paint apps are where the figure really shines. The weathering is nearly perfect, and is varied enough on my three figures that they all look different. I can't wait to get a few of the black pauldron version next year.

Poped all these open last night. Decent wave. Although the sandtrooper is mostly just a re-paint, with the new helmet it came out well. Almost makes up for the ball jointed hips which I still don't like. The Leia turned out really well. I wasn't so hot on it, but this is one of those cases where the final product is much better than the mock-ups.

I managed to score most of this wave today.  Interestingly enough though, I didn't see a Vader on the pegs!  The rest of the wave was there, though.

Also, this was at WalMart.  The TVC carded figures scanned, but the Lost Line cards would not scan.  WTF?!?!

Same thing for me at TRU. The vintage ones scanned fine, but the Lost Line Jar Jar I bought did not.

Isn't it kinda funny/sad that the flood gates may be opening on a wave riddled with Clones/Troopers a lot of people say they're not interested in?  And a Jar Jar figure?

It's a decent wave IMO but I like Clones still...  But as 2012 goes, it's probably less cool figures, especially the new ones.  Would you rather stumble on Wave 5 or 4, or wave 6?

Not that I've stumbled on much of any of them.  :-X

If I find a wave before the rest of the local guys, it usually means that wave will be easy to find. So here we go. I'm guessing because of the Sandtrooper, this wave will be a breeze to find.

The wave I most want is the online exclusive, figures. Next to that, the Nom/Aayla wave because I missed both of those figures at least twice. A close third would be the Starkiller wave.

No interest in any of these Lost Wave guys really...

The Sandtrooper is the one trooper I bet WON'T be as easy to find...  I think that rifle might sell him, as will the droid.  I think folks are underestimating what Star Wars fans will buy, and why.

I've been talking so much trash about Sandtroopers this year, after seeing them littering the pegs, and then I went ahead and ordered three of the new one online. I'm such a whore.

I'd actually like to see Hasbro release this guy with the black pauldron (and hell, maybe even the white pauldron) for a while. My sandtrooper legion is so ****** up, I'd like to actually curate it a bit. If this is the ultimate version, I'd like to build my forces on that mold, with the proper pauldron colors. After all, I know I won't be buying many AOTC rererererererereleases.

Now that I think of it, I should just a buy a bunch of this guy and take the pauldrons from the ones I already have. Are they swappable?

I wasn't planning on buying him, but when I saw him on the pegs, on avinatge card, I had to.  And I was really surprised how much I like this figure.  Good one, Hasbro.

absolutely...  They're really more an accessory than anything IMO, and swap perfectly.

Excellent...I can't wait to have a few badass-looking squads. I'm really sick of the POTJ ones, so it'll be nice to phase those out.

You know which Sandtrooper I really dislike?  The Evolutions version.  I even prefer the POTJ version over that one.

I'm not a fan of the Evolutions Sandtrooper either, but the orange pauldron one (the one that looks like it stood in front of a crap-spray) is a bit better than the grey pauldron version (the one that looks like it swam in a septic tank).

The problem I have with the POTJ version is that it can't hold it's gun. That, and it's articulation is just terrible. I'm really hoping to swap out all my sandtroopers with a good sculpt and paint-apps, and this seems like the one to do it with.

Don't forget - there is a black pauldron version of this Sandtrooper coming in the Droid Factory line next spring...

Ah, that may help things, thanks! I knew there was some kind of sandtrooper coming, but I thought it was a Movie Heroes version, with some sort of weird gun and possible action feature. Glad to know this guy is coming as well.

Yes, there is also a white-pauldron Sandtrooper with light-up leaf blower gun coming in 2013 Movie Heroes as well... but I don't really recommend that one as any sort of "ultimate" version for troop-replacing. :P

I didn't mind the Evolutions figures...  They were ok to me, and probably will stand as my Tatooine Trooper army for the most part...  Some of those black pauldron ones with the very thin spray as well.  I may slip a POTJ Trooper in too as nobody holds a pair of binocs quite as well it seems.

The new one's nice, but I liked the Evo figure a lot...  Mine hold their gun too, but it takes some prying to get those fingers open for some reason.

The POTJ one is great for it's time, but I just feel like it's showing it's age. If I display those guys, they'll be relegated to the back section.

Post by: Scockery on October 9, 2012, 10:40 AM
The POTJ is odd because it looks based on earlier comm-tech Stormtrooper, but doesn't have knee joints or ball jointed shoulders.  He's really only good for one pose, macronocular looking.

The Evolutions mold is okay, except the lack of waist joint.
Title: Re: Vintage Collection Wave 16 (2012 Wave 6)
Post by: Jesse James on October 9, 2012, 02:44 PM
I can deal without the waist joint since it doesn't make or break a figure IMO...  The POTJ one is really the only one I've gotten a good macro-binoc pose out of, but I think with some more open hands, any figure would be ok for it.  The hands sculpted to hold an E-11 handle make it tough to hold the binocs properly.  They've got the elbow range of motion though on pretty much all the newer sculpts since 2005-ish.

I'm surprised they weren't in stock a wihle ago.  This has been the only wave not too difficult to find this year aside from the TPM wave.

Yes, especially that craptastic Jar Jar figure.  However, Vader is almost always absent on the pegs, on BOTH cards.

But, but, but!!!!  He doesn't sell!

Haven't you listened to collector boards for years instead of what Hasbro tells you!?  He doesn't sell!

 :-X  :-*

Seriously though, no figure in the wave is really bad...  Jar Jar included (I prefer him to the MH one).  But this wave was probably one of the more lackluster to see retail this year, and unfortunately it saw the 2nd most quantity in my area.

Leia's a pegwarmer for sure and she's great.  Great figure.  But again, like they've said (to the chagrin of many), female figures tend to do poorly.  She has.  She's fantastically done though, as Leia figures go.  Everything a fanboy could've wanted in a New Leia that was sorely needed.

Yeah, this was easily the second most plentiful wave of vintage figures around here this year too. The new TRU alone has restocked this exact same wave dozens of times already.

It figures we'd get more of this, and not the Tarkin wave, which to this day I have never seen on the pegs ANYWHERE.

Sorry, as much as I hate JJ (no, not you  :-X  :-*), I think the MH version is far superior.  And I know you'll think I'm nuts for saying it, but I actually prefer the OTC Bespin Leia figure over the VC version.

I've only seen the Tarkin wave at retail one time, and that was at a Hastings.

I won't argue on the Jar Jar...  They're very different and I think both are good for different reasons.  The neck on the Vinty is odd but I prefer the extra articulation and vinyl skirt thing.

Leia you'd never convince me on that one.  She's almost a perfect Leia figure to me, which are a rarity.

I disagree...  The coat was nice, but I felt as a salt shaker figure she was a major letdown, plus mine has never stood, ever.  It's lack of poseability made it prone to falling and mine's always required a stand.  I really felt this new one's vastly superior.

What is sad (and lazy) on Hasbro's part is that the neck posts for Bespin Gown Leia and Hoth Leia are different sizes, so there goes that kit-bashed Bespin Escape figure unless they waste their tooling dollars by reworking the Bespin Leia head. Also, the Bespin Leia has cankles - funny how they can do right by other female figures but always seem to eff-up Leia's feet.
Title: Re: Vintage Collection Wave 16 (2012 Wave 6)
Post by: Jesse James on December 10, 2012, 01:48 AM
I wonder how fixable the neckpost issue really is.  I'd love to see standardization there but they've always said that's impossible.  No clue how true that is at this point since that's such a particular aspect of production.  Some toy lines I've been into, neckpegs were sort of standard but done differently (peg attached to the head).

GI Joes were pretty standardized but the new ones are not I take it?  From what I've read of them anyway.

I didn't look at the new Bespin Leia's ankles as cankles really.  Maybe the comic version of her has me just easier on that.

I actually just did this and you can force the Bespin head on the Hoth Body...its the boots I am trying to figure out what to do something with

I also bought one to put on the semi awful Medical Frigate body which also does wonders for that figure

Not much you can do with the boots Scott, as there's really no female/small framed figure with legs that would look right.  That'd be a sculpting job.  :(

I've always just figured "Hasbro will get to it" on stuff like that.

I still like the new Bespin one fine...  I saw the OTC one and really, I hate that figure.  I like the paint on the coat though.  That was slick.  Stuff like that I'm happy to retire.

OTC really is a line of greatness though.  POTC too.  That whole "background on the card" line was pretty outstanding.  Probably one of the more overlooked lines.  Not a everything was great (repaints sucked) but figures also cost 50% less then.  And I bought 2 DSG's and 2 AT-AT Drivers this weekend and they're grand.  I love that AT-AT Driver so much more than the one with the (albeit cool and unique) Clone head under the bucket.

I have the three figures of this toy wave from only the original trilogy (Sandtrooper, Leia, Darth Vader) and I will say Leia looks awesome.
