Title: 2013 Movie Heroes Class I Vehicles
Post by: Jeff on September 4, 2012, 03:37 PM
I really liked what I saw for the Class I series at Celebration 6.  Adding a second figure and rounding them up to $20 seems like a better deal when you compare them to what we get for $18 now or even compared to the current 3-figure BPs for $23.

The little Yoda ship was nifty (love the fact that you can swap the astro-dome on the ship with any BAD dome) and also loved how the MTT Droid Fighter fits right into the MTT.  Makes the MTT just a bit cooler, despite it coming with yet another Ep1 Obi-Wan.

And glad to see the Clone Dropship as well.  I'll be skipping frantically searching for the (currently) VHTF Clone Wars version and just grab this new 'movie' version when it hits next Spring.

Agreed.  Hasbro's new approach is solid on this line.  I want the Clone Wars version of the Dropship so will have to be hoping for it to appear magically before the end of the year.

Sandtroopers had a new pic of the first wave of 2013 Class I vehicles, and they look to be much better than the majority of the sets we got in 2012. Can't wait for the Yoda fighter, and hopefully they modified the Drop Pod a little to where it can fit non-Clone Wars figures.

Price is supposed to be $19.99 apparently, and they're justifying it by throwing a second figure in.

No modifications, at Celebration VI they confirmed that it was the same ship only repainted in 501st Blue.

It's still too bad some of the figures are sucky and there's no OT items.  It's also a shame that websites go overboard on their watermarks.

When you can't even read the text on the boxes, it really is a bit much.

Considering the price is currently $17 or $18, I won't mind paying an extra two bucks for an extra (albeit crappy) figure.

That's a damn shame, since not even normal Clone Wars figures can fit in the cockpit.

I got a TIE Pilot in mine...  No Clone handy though.  I'm betting I could get many figures to fit if the TIE Pilot with somewhat limited posing and a goofy big helmet and chestbox fit though.

Interesting. Maybe the TIE pilot works since it is a skinnier mold. So far I have tried Vintage Collection Oddball, a basic TCW clone, and the Clone Pilot from the Gunship Turret BP, and I couldn't get the canopy closed. I might play around with the TVC Clone since it's a skinnier sculpt.

Some nice hi-res shots of the 2013 sets over at RS...I'm liking the deco enhancements on the Tactical Droid. Also think I'm going to have to pick up another Dropship even though it is not technically a CW offering.

not going to lie, all of these sets have my attention at the very least.  The ship for the MTT, which I don't even have yet, being the coolest of the 4.

Personally, I'm glad that we're seeing a lot more new sculpts in this assortment.  And I'm fine with the Dropship's 501st deco repaint.  That ship was super scarce, and deserved a better run at retail.  And if Hasbro decides to repaint the Y-Wing Scout Bomber, too?  That's fine by me as well.

I'm down for one of each set, plus multiples of the dropship! I like that Hasbro used a less-known mold for the Clone Pilot (Evolutions sculpt), and even sculpted a new head for pilot Yoda. I don't even mind the sub-par battle droid sculpts; getting some extra filler for my droid army shelves is more than worth the few extra dollars these sets will cost.

Wow yeah.  At that I won't buy any.  I hope thats just TRU being TRU and those wind up 20 everywhere else.  Otherwise 2013 just got way cheaper for me.  I planned on buying at least 3 till I saw that price.

Damn...I was thinking of stopping by TRU earlier today and blew it off thinking there was no reason to check. I'd happily pick up the AT-RT and Dropship sets and return them later if/when I can find them cheaper.

I wonder if this is just a random oops or if more of these will start popping up around the country this coming week...

The Yoda fighter is supposed to fit regular figures too, correct? If so, along with the Build a Droid Astro option, that really puts the Class II Jedi Starfighter to shame

I haven't opened mine yet, but it's VERY tiny.  But I really don't think a regular sized figure is going to fit in that cockpit.

I read somewhere that there's a "booster seat" for Yoda that can be removed to fit regular figures

I found 3 of the 4 today at TRU, priced at $23.99. Of course the one set missing was the one I wanted - the AT-RT repaint. I did pick up the Dropship repaint though, and it turns out another local collector stashed one for me at a different store today, so I will be heading out to pick that up shortly.

Those are the only 2 I wanted from the set, hoping I can return the one I bought earlier and then re-buy it in tandem with the at-rt set thereby qualifying for the BOGOHO promotion.

Update: I did and was able to get a mintier box for the Dropship as well. So I ended up paying about $18 each for them plus tax after the BOGOHO deal. I'm good with that. I don't think I need an opener for either of these, so back to waiting for new figures...

Got the Yoda JSFs and MTT Droid Fighters I wanted.

REALLY upset that the peg hole for the dome on the Yoda JSF is bigger than the build-a-droid hole on all the droids. Rigged one of the two I got to open with a R2 Silver w/green dome using some electrical tape to "thicken" the peg.

The white w/black R2 body I got for the "spare" dome to make this a unique BAD is a snug fit but works and looks nice.

Just wish Hasbro had paid better attention and made it so all the other domes out there could be swapped into the socket. For me it ruins what would have been an awesome mini rig.

Weird. All of the domes I tried (R2 & R5 style) worked without incident.

Were they older Hasbro domes or Disney domes?

My Disney n BAD domes swap fine...  I'm surprised there'd be an issue with the yoda fighter then.

Exactly, all my Disney parts swap just fine with the Legacy BAD parts, so the fact that the peg in the Yoda JSF droid dome is a smidge thicker diameter makes it incompatible with everything that's come before.

Edit: Okay - so I had originally bought an extra R3 Clear w/Purple dome and R2 Silver w/Green dome for use on two spare Yoda JSFs and the domes from those JSFs were going to be put on Disney White w/Black Trunks with Black w/Silver Left, Right and Middle legs.

The two Disney Domes are too loose. They fall right back out of the socket (unless I wrap the peg in some tape to increase the diameter of the peg).

I tried with the following domes:
R2-D2 (Discover the Force) - Dome snaps in, but spins too freely - so the peg is a bit thicker but not perfect
G8 (Single Carded DTF figure) - Dome has the same problem as the disney parts
TLC R4 Dome - fits fine
TLC R7 Dome - fits fine
TVC R5-D4 - Dome snaps in but is loose
Rebel Pilots R5 Dome - fits fine
Disney R7 Dome - too loose like the Disney R2 and R3 dome
Disney R9 Dome - too loose like the other Disney domes

So it seems that it is a "your mileage may vary" kind of thing. Far more of my domes don't work as opposed to actually working, so I'm still incredibly disappointed.

And yeah - I have yet to have a Disney dome NOT work on any of the R2/R7 trunks from the TLC B-A-D line or even the recent DTF Build-a-Droid releases.

I saw these at our local TRU this week, but at that price I had to pass.  I was sort of interested in the Yoda fighter, but took a look at it close up and yeesh did the Yoda have a bad paint job on the eyes.  Not that I don't have other Yodas, but just noticing that it was pretty bad.  I kind of like the idea of the starfighter though, and may pick it up if it hits elsewhere more reasonable.

Yeah, having possessions isn't really the Jedi way (outside of your favorite cloak and a lightsaber I suppose).  I thought even "Obi-Wan's Starfighter" and "Obi-Wan's Droid" were essentially Jedi ships and droids that anyone could use.  Clearly other Jedi have customized ships (from a Hasbro standpoint), so I guess it's not outrageous that Yoda would have his own as well.  I'm just annoyed that anyone lends credibility to Yoda's ship being half the size of everyone else's.  Wouldn't it be easier to just put in a seat and steering adjustment to the standard model?   ;)
Title: Re: 2013 Movie Heroes Class I Vehicles
Post by: Scockery on January 25, 2013, 09:54 PM
Most of the mini-rigs have little credibility, that is the ones that are fighters/shruken space ships (I'm not saying they aren't fun).  They could limit themselves to believable concepts, but that would be mostly speeder bikes, swoops, larger droids, AT-RT's (which might be underscale), cannons (Hasbro usually refuses to make) and the beasts (Hasbro refuses to make).

For AOTC 3D, a better articulated Nexu with Padme and a Geonosian? Geonosian Picador? ROTS Lava Flea? NEVER HAPPEN.

Those in regions with Meijer stores, they have the new Class 1's for $19.99, also had a spot for the Class 2, also $19.99 (none on shelf et).

I was tempted by the AT-RT, but the driver looked sloppy and had some yellow stains on him.

Title: Re: 2013 Movie Heroes Class I Vehicles
Post by: Jesse James on February 21, 2013, 03:38 PM
I picked up the Republic Drop Ship thingie in the Yoda Packaging the other day...  For $19.99 these were nice I think.

First the CLone is a great figure in and of itself...  removable helmet, clean deco...  Just a good army biulder to have, lots of articulation, and while the cockpit's not made for most any current figure on the market, I can get him into it holding the controls, and close the canopy, and no problems.  That ship's cockpit is really just a hair too small.

My only gripe with that ship in general otherwise is the "landing strut" is like a cannon but not...  It's pretty dumb.  They should've made it a search light, and given it a bit of a pod foot so it actually functioned.  This vehicle hates to stand upright like it landed, and the two guys on back make it even less stable.

I love the ship's concept...  Liked it in red, and appreciate a blue one.  I'm going to do a 501st one since that's what it's for and all, and add a couple troops the to back.  This one I'll be basically leaving alone.  I plan to put another pilot in though, a blue 501st one of sorts even if I must custom it.

I just don't like the design of the landing strut for the most part.  I'm pondering removing some weaponry too, it's just overarmed really for anything that small, but better to remove parts than have to add, like the landing thing.  I actually have a cool idea how I'll make that a lot better and actually look like a practical piece of of the vehicle and not a half-assed cannon thing.

The only real gripe with the new Class-I format is the other figure is crap...  The Battledroid is as prone to falling as any droid I have on my shelf, and less poseable to acheive a good balance I've found.  His articulation is low and his quality looks nothing short of cheap to me (shiney plastic, limited paint, etc.), so he'll be in the pile of dead droids I guess.  He'll serve a purpose but not as an appreciated figure I guess.

I think it's weird that Target clearanced the Class II ships but not these. Most of the ones I frequent have a LOT more Class I's to get rid of too.

ps - nobody is buying that crap at 30% off, Target. You gotta go 50-70% off if you want to move that garbage.

Got a Freeco at Tuesday Morning...  I too would dig seeing these hit clearance, as I'd probably nab a few more AT-RT's, another Yoda Fighter, and a couple more dropships if I could.  I like all of them ultimately, though Yoda's fighter left me kinda disinterested after I got it.  I could see using the droid head though and making a Yaddle version for poops and giggles.

Definitely disappointed to see that this line does not appear to be moving forward.  I genuinely like the concept.  But the Class I vehicles on clearance gives you the sense that they didn't sell really well.

Is there hope for Celebration Europe 2?  I don't know.  Word is that Hasbro was holding some things back for CE2 in Essen.  And it does seem odd that there is a Class 2 vehicle line but no Class 1 vehicles.  I guess we need to wait until next week to see!

Doesn't seem good huh?  I liked this branch too.  I'm ok with exclusives if we get things like the Ewok catapult, but I liked the stuff we got for Clone Wars and such too...  I really enjoyed the little dropship, and the AT-RT's were outstanding too...  Yoda's fighter was innovative.  Shame, but such is the way of things these days.

With how many 2013 sets are dumped at TJMaxx near me right now, it's tough to argue the decision if we thought those were so good, but sold so poorly.  My Target's had the same couple stragglers for a while I know.  K-Mart as well.

I agree some of the best stuff was in this line and will miss it. Would have been a good place to slot in a few of their "realistic" TCW offerings.

Regarding the Yoda line sets, I think the overall sales were hurt by the fact that neither Walmart nor TRU ever really sold these. At least not in any #'s. You only see them in Targets anymore. I must have bought 2-3 each of the Dropship and AT-Rt sets too. After awhile, even for customizing they get old, y'know?
Title: Re: 2013 Movie Heroes Class I Vehicles

That they weren't sold at many outlets makes you think tho that they really did poorly since they've basically sat where they did sell. :(

I think that's just the line top to bottom though.  It has had fast backup for a while now.

TRU did sell the Class I vehicles, but the new price structure brought these over that $20 price mark.  And I think that's why collectors balked at buying them at TRU.  Target had a much more competitive price point.  And as we've seen over the years at Target, they are very aggressive about clearancing out stock that isn't moving.

Over the past week I've seen plenty of the Class I vehicles at closeout places like TJ Maxx.  At $12.99 each these are more attractive, but since I already got them all at full price, why should I buy them again?
Title: Re: 2013 Movie Heroes Class I Vehicles
Post by: CHEWIE on July 23, 2013, 05:14 PM
I actually didn't buy any of the Yoda style class I vehicles until the TJ Maxx dump.  The reason is, I'm just not a fan of Clone Wars stuff and am close to being burnt out on prequel merchandise.  And I thought this was a pretty good assortment, but needed some sort of OT love.

Yoda Starfighter - I thought it was a neat idea and the interchangeable astromech dome is very cool.  But, Jedistarfighers are just overdone to the point where I almost hate them... despise them, in fact.  And all the Yodas that I saw had really bad pain on the eyes.  So, I just couldn't pull the trigger.  Saw these at TJ Maxx, and still can't get excited.

Clone Dropship - Not a bad ship by any means, but just not interesting to me.  If it was some sort of ground vehicle, then I might be interested.

AT-RT - To me this thing was a letdown... the clone looked pretty bad in my opinion, and the vehicle's paint scheme just seemed too animated to me.  I guess there are times when I just feel like Hasbro takes for granted that repaints are going to automatically sell just because it's Star Wars... I dunno... just wasn't impressed by this set.

MTT Droid Fighter - By far, this was the coolest set in my book... BUT, I still didn't buy it until I saw it at TJ Maxx.  I came close several times but never could pull the trigger... which was due to the Obi Wan figure.  It's a pretty neat set though and I am glad that I bought it.

Now... the line sorely needs some OT deluxe sets in 2014.  It's been so long since we've gotten any, other than the Yavin sled.  Right?  Or am I forgetting something?
Title: Re: 2013 Movie Heroes Class I Vehicles
Post by: Jesse James on July 23, 2013, 06:00 PM
I felt pretty similarly but I'm not TOTALLY burned out on PT stuff, at least to where if I get it cheap enough I'm happy to buy and repaint.  Plan to do that with the Dropship to an OT-era repurposed one.

The Droid was cooler than I thought, and I didn't buy till I saw it at TJMaxx as well...  I didn't appreciate it before.  Now it makes a neat little answer to said dropship if you use it as just a droid itself not a "ship" per se.

The AT-RT, agree totally.  Horrid paintjob.  It's only good for buying and repainting.

Yoda's Fighter I was a little sour on...  I kind of want to do a Yaddle one or something similar, new droid dome and deco...  The figure bites though for sure, and the concept of Yoda needing a smaller ship is goofy unto itself, but I'm buying into it.  I liked the droid dome removability enough to care I guess.

I liked the AT-RT set because it gave me another chance to pick up a Tactical Droid, plus it made good customizing fodder. They got the driver's helmet totally wrong though. No cheek flaps. Luckily I picked up some custom cast Phase II helmets that look perfect on there. Looking forward to posting some pics soon.

Some of these, and other Yoda packaged things, are lingering at K-Mart in their clearance aisles, and there's an additional 50% off clearance right now...  These would be down to $4.50 there now I believe.

Also some Legends and stuff turn up, but not a ton left.

Didn't find any, found some CW figures (including Goji the pilot who cannot really sit!) and Movie Heroes Padme, but her head is so awful I couldn't give $4.50 for it. Oddly found Hobbit figures at K-mart that never carried them or if they put them out, put them in some place strange and unlocatable. But they didn't scan...I had them all anyway.

I picked up the MTT Fighter and Yoda's Attack Fighter for $7 each at Marshall's today. I kept thinking about that old gag line "at that price, I can't afford NOT to buy 'em!"

I saw today that Target has begun clearancing these out, price only dropped to $13.98 here though. (so far)

I know of at least one location the still had quite a few of these, at least before Christmas, so I would like to hold out for another cheap AT-RT set. $9.98 sounds good to me.
