Title: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 8
Post by: Dave on December 26, 2014, 04:07 PM
Is there any hint of a Wave 8 in this line?

Not thus far...  Toy fair isn't too far off so I'd say any sniff of toys we will get between feb and August will be there and will be meager.

Yes.  Wave 8 would be the stuff from NYCC - Carbonite Han, jawas, Boushh, Mosep, etc.

There's a chance waves 7/8 may be scrambled though... No one has seen a solid case pack info yet (unless I missed that).

Totally forgot the NYCC stuff...   :-[  it's maybe the most interesting stuff TBS is getting too.

I'm really getting so truly anxious for the Jawa 2-pack.

Like we don't have enough Jawas. The only thing that looks interesting is Mosep and he will be impossible to find and not worth the price increase.

Han in Carbonite is the star of this wave for me.  Mosep is okay, but I personally don't find the character all that interesting.

Agree on Han - he's got arm binders for crying out loud!

Disagree with you on Mosep though, Nick.  I can't wait for him - he's not just Mosep, he's Jabba the Hut too!

Really excited to get a figure of him given the Star Wars lore behind him.  I mean, this guy was basically "Jabba the Hut" for quite a few appearances in the early Marvel Comics until ROTJ came along and showed us who "Jabba the Hutt" really was.

It's the same reason I'd love to see a figure of Heater (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Heater) someday - every fake Jabba should get a figure! ;)

...In Marvel comics.  I had the comic adaptation of TESB, but never for STAR WARS.  So I missed out on that.  So with Mosep I get about as excited for that as I would for the actor in the furry costume who was the stand-in for the Docking Bay 94 scene.  Both of them are notable because of their interesting footnote status in the whole saga, but that obscurity doesn't do it for me.  When it comes to a Tatooine / Cantina denizen I'm more interested in someone who gets more screen time.  Like a Baniss Keeg or Danz Borin.
Title: Re: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 8
Post by: Jesse James on February 27, 2015, 02:16 PM
Mosep is my #1 wanted Alien at this moment, so getting his figure was great news for me.  An unmade species is always welcome IMO, unless it's an f'n podracer.

I'd put him up with Han as my most wanted figures in quite some time...  Probably about a year it feels like, as TBS has not delivered many figures I was giddy about.  Luke and Yoda were it for the most part, and Yoda has big flaws and Luke as well, though I overlook them for the fun factor.  Sadly, Daks on Amazon for cheap were about as truly excited as I got to buy much of anything.

Han's needed a new Carbo Han for eons now though.  The Saga figure blew chunks.  This looks like a really nice update.  Mosep makes my Cantina Wishlist really shrink down to humans, and the two they'll never make it seems.  Tizzvizziizzifzizifizzleniizzit is neat though so he's taking my next alien wish from the scene.  Garrouf Lafoe, the local HVAC guy just trying to have some peace and quiet with a drink, is definitely my top Cantina want though, I believe.

I'm a Jawa guy so those I look forward to but the rest... Mosep for sure. It will be case by case as its been for a long while on these. Bannis Keeg is really the only major cantina alien I think would be cause for real excitement for me.

Is it wrong that I'm 1000% more interested in the Rebels/Legends and Mission Series line than TBS?

I love the articulation and detail of the TBS.  But the price and lack of anything really "new" bores me.

I wish they hit more obscure or EU characters in this line.

I wish they hit more obscure or EU characters in this line.

I think everyone does...

One more sign that we really need Episode 7 to dump some "new, never-before made" characters into the mix...  although it probably won't help the folks tired of resculpts as Hasbro/Disney movie lines tend to be filled with countless main character versions in the first few waves.  :-\

more carded pics at starwars-figuren (http://forum.starwars-figuren.com/forum/topic.asp?whichpage=1&TOPIC_ID=975#10654)

Part of me is still disappointed that they picked the gray-haired Nimbanel look over the dark hair version (aka Marvel Comics 'Jabba the Hut'; aka "Dechipher Mosep" until he was retconned into being Tawss Khaa (http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111219030349/starwars/images/0/05/RoguesGallery-SWI130.jpg) ::)).  Kind of a subtle kick in the nuts the same way they messed up Brock Starsher versus Sgt. Doallyn thing.

Close enough, but the nit-picky part of me is kind of annoyed.  Would be pretty easy custom I guess to get the other Nimbanel - just trim up the mustache and paint, chop off the pony tail and smooth out.

Still pretty happy to be getting a new Cantina alien though as those seem to be harder and harder to get these days.

^Tawss Khaa was always the dark haired one. Dehipher used two different images of it for both of them and left the light haired one unnamed.
Title: Re: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 8
Post by: Jeff on April 24, 2015, 01:29 PM
You're right - I guess I should have said it was Mosep who was retconned into the light-haired nimban, not the dark hair version was retconned into Tawss. ;)

However you want to describe it, thanks to the SW.com article (http://web.archive.org/web/20110814033646/http://www.starwars.com/movies/episode-iv/20081027.html?page=6), I always thought Mosep was supposed to be the dark haired guy.  Now, he's the light-haired one for some reason.

Like I said - either way, I'm happy to buy any cantina or Jabba Palace alien they make, even if they can't keep the names straight anymore thanks to all the changes over the years. :)

Han (not there) and the Jawas really look like a nice package at the new price.

The others, not so much but I will deal.  Agreed on Mosep...  I'm just happy to buy a new cantina alien again, whatever the name.  Like Doallyn's doppelgänger, it'll just be a nice thing to own and buy.

Leia looks snazzy.  I liked boussh as a kid so a nice ultimate version of her is fun.  I wish I knew what ubesians looked like without the helmet.  I would do a custom Boussh before she got to him.

How so?  When I saw that rumored assortment a few weeks ago, I cancelled my Wave 7 pre-order in favor of this case.

I want 9/12 of the Wave 8 case (Rex, Thorn, Doom, Dutch, Chewie, Han, Boushh, Jawas, Mosep).  Just have to track down Wolffe (who is 2x per case in Wave 7) and a second Han to keep carded.

I guess I was hoping for extras of the new stuff and fewer 7 repacks.  2 Han would've been nice for sure.  I also don't want Chewbacca, 3po, etc...

I ordered wave 7 singles, and am hopeful I can do the same with 8.

I really like this case assortment too, because I can skip Wave 7 entirely. The non-Rex Clones I'm not crazy about, but I could probably trade them for Imperial Navy Commandos from Wave 7 or something.

Only Dorkside and maybe one other place has put them up yet...  Patience on it Dave, I think it'll be soon on the other places like EE and BBTS.  I'm waiting (hoping) for singles to go up soon as I'd like to just pick up what I want, and leave it at that.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned these figures will never hit retail, and will have very little availability via e-tailers.  It seems the last wave of a line is always hard to come by, and with the way Hasbro has been managing their assortments / production numbers I'm not sure what to expect here.

I never really found the last waves of Rebels at retail, and most were only available on HTS for a very brief window.

So perusing the Wave7 and Wave8 stuff from China, I've noticed Mosep's neckpeg is old school, and non-ball/socket.  I also noticed the peg is a separate piece, sculpted and inserted into the torso.  Weird way to do things but it comes up here and there for sure.

Likewise, noticing, if these paint apps hold up to what people find in the US, they're shoddy at best.  Hasbro's paint applications are nothing short of pathetic at this point.  Really maybe their biggest flaw IMO.  And at the price, they're the one thing I really consider inexcusable.  They've cut them down and simplified them to the point they really can't cut back any more, but man the work is just poor regardless if you're buying a Legends or TBS figure, any scale, etc.  It's all pretty poopy.

Love seeing a figure with heft to it (either because it's a 2-pack, big accessory, whatever) again though.  That Carbo Block, that's cool.  I have plans for that. :)

I received the Han and Mosep from Viperskingdom on ebay a couple weeks ago.

Really like both figures, but I did need to head swap the Han with the 2006 SAGA2 Carkoon Han.  Pretty much a perfect match in my book.  And I needed to boil Mosep's head for a bit to get it to slide down properly on the neck post.

An update for me, EVERYTHING of mine is shipping/processing at this point, however Wave 8 case is still not available to ship and says July.

This month was a bear...  Tons of stuff here and abroad came due.  I was sorta financially prepped for it, but sheesh it still hurts when you start really adding stuff up and looking at it.  :-[  June must've been everyone's month to get new things to market.

I've decided that when my Wave 8 stuff gets here from EE, I'll save Carbonite Han to open last.

That way, should the dark whispers pan out and Hasbro announces that the SA 3.75" collector line is indeed dead, I'll always have the knowledge that the last new 3.75" collector figure I opened was Han Solo.  ;)

The block was worth the purchase, dare I say.

I like the Jawas a LOT more than I thot I would.

Hans sculpt isn't the best ever but it is a good update and happy to put this one to bed.

Saved my extra to open last.  I think I will pick up two more Hans for some custom purposes too.

Post by: Jesse James on July 1, 2015, 12:35 AM
I went through my figures finally.

C-3PO...  Wish the gold were a little more vibrant, but the figure is still surprisingly interesting to me.  The right hand is a neat open hand, unique looking.  The panels fit onto it perfectly actually, and the panel lines are pretty well hidden completely.

I really wish the gold weren't so muted, as this is probably the cooler of the C-3PO figures in the line, actually.

Boussh Leia...  The 50/50 figure of the wave.  She's not a winner, not a loser.  Her headsculpt isn't as good as the last version of this figure, but it's also not horrid.  The paint is not bad overall and the little logos on the backpack are pretty slick.

The articulation is everything you could want on the figure pretty much, hooray for articulated figures still being a thing.  And the skirt doesn't inhibit it much at all either, despite being plastic.  It's flexible, and nicely done, which allows this figure to pose well still.  +1 too for the softgoods cape.

That said, Hasbro completely ***** the bed on the molded-in detonator in her left hand, when the last figure actually features a removable, teeny tiny detonator accessory.

So while the sculpt isn't the best, and that detonator is a major flub, it's an interestingly decent figure.  Unfortunately, not perfect by any means.

-Cmdr. Fox...  I think that's his name, I probably goofed it though.  The throw-away mandatory Clone repaint.  His figure is fine for what it is.  Only flawed by the almost dingaling like antenna on his left shoulder pad, which at the very least is out of scale, and at worst looks like a sex toy stuck to him.   :-X

He's a Clone...  Aren't you sick of them too?  I know I am.

-Mosep Bineed...  He rocks socks.  The fact I have a new Cantina alien has me on something of a high so it's hard to be judgmental with him.  His joints are a little "short" in their range of motion.  That and no holster for his new blaster would be my gripes.  That would be minor though, as I really enjoy him and am very glad I nabbed two so I had a fodder fig around.

-Jawas...  Didn't realize how much I'd like these two but I really do.  Hasbro did the ion blasters up right and updated the POTF2 one but also nicely did up the enfield style one with a modern sculpt and proper scale.  The large holster on the one figure for his ion rifle is cool because it opens at the side to easily put the weapon in/out of the holster.  Surprised me how much I really liked these guys, and a 2-pack makes $13+ quite a bit easier to stomach.

-Han Carbonite...  One flaw is the head.  Neck down, this figure is pretty amazing.  Neck up, he's not.  The sculpt is not the best likeness, but not their worst either of Ford's face.  I'd say the paint REALLY harms the sculpt a bit more than the sculpt itself.  The hair deco is really sloppy, and lacks any color variation to it.  The eyes are fine, but the hair deco is really bad, sloppily applied, and it just detracts from the rest of it completely.

The rest of the figure is the articulation and sculpt everyone has wanted for a new Carbonite Han though, and let me say that the block is OUTSTANDING.  An ultimate accessory, if there is such a thing.  So much so that I already have a plan for an extra block in the works that I think will be shockingly easy to accomplish once I do some research. :)

Overall the pre-TFA TBS4" final wave is pretty awesome...  Mosep, Han, Jawas, and shockingly C-3PO, kind of make this wave a mega-winner to me.  $13.99 figures, a Clone I could've easily lived without, and a detonator someone can't seem to drop, all suck a weenie.

But it's a good wave...  Glad I've got them and I'm wrapping up this line (for now).

I only picked up the C-3PO and the Leia.  You summed up my thoughts on the C-3PO perfectly, and I'm actually mad that the detonator is sculpted to Leia's hand.  If I had known that, I would not have purchased that figure!

Received my 6 wave 8 figures from Hasbrotoyshop and I'm underwhelmed to say the least. Thorn is poorly painted and as rigid as the wave 7 clones. Leia and Han are also sloppy. No torso articulation either on them. Leia is the better of the two. Mosep is a great addition to any cantina display but needs a little more paint. He kinds of stands out because of this and almost looks like his face belongs to POTF2 figures. The jawas are the stars of this wave and very detailed. C3po is a little cross eyed and that small mold kills him. I plan on displaying him with my clone wars (realistic) figures like obi wan, ahsoka, Anakin, since he is based on that color scheme. This wave was a let down.

I find it curious that Thorn has gone in and out of stock several times already, but Mosep remains sold out since that first day he went up. Well, not so much curious as aggravating I guess.  :D

That's the one guy left that I still need!

Received my order from HTS this morning. Very happy how these turned out. All caught up with the line now and I guess it's on to the future.

Got mine too (Jawas, Boussh, Han and Mosep).  I like them but am disappointed about the lack of coloring on Boussh's boots (which is hidden by the packaging).  I wonder if they'll make a running change on this (probably not being the (likely) last wave before TFA)... and, yeah, the thermal detonator molded into her hand is a step down from the Saga 2 version (I think Jesse pointed this out).

Looks to me like cases are processing at the moment.  Just a heads up if you ordered.  If you didn't, apparently the world is ending so you should order now.

I got my 2 Thorns today...what crap paint jobs. Worse than any of the Rebels stuff I've seen. And this is (was?) the premium line? Eesh.

I agree that I think the coloring seems to be off. A tad too glossy in general, doesn't match what's come before.
