Title: Celebration Anaheim 2015
Post by: Jeff on March 25, 2015, 09:35 AM
Celebration coming up in just a few weeks...  but no Hasbro panel (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2015/03/24/no-hasbro-panel-at-celebration-anaheim/).   :(

I felt bad for Hasbro yesterday as it was a no win situation for them most likely.  They haven't been given the green light to show off the Ep7 toys, so they were kinda stuck - host no panel and get accused of trying to avoid facing the fans or host a panel showing off farting furby and foam lightsabers and it's Toy Fair anger all over again from the usual suspects.   :-\

Anyway, just starting a thread here in case Hasbro does manage to show off something new at their Celebration booth... which may still happen even without a big 60-minute panel.

Too bad no panel but yeah, the timing of the movie has basically thrown everything off and with Celebration sitting in front of what they probably originally thought would be the release date (May)... what are you going to do. I scanned some of the FB comments on the news there's no panel and... yeah. I don't know what people want or expect anymore when it comes to this hobby, except apparently everything delivered to them on a platter. Last I checked that's not how the world worked.

Anyways, maybe Hasbro does end up showing something and surprises everybody. I read an interview with Simon Pegg last night and he mentioned visiting the set and his daughter playing with the BB-8 (basketball droid from the trailer) model and I thought, this thing is going to make a great, life-size toy. Hasbro would probably be ok showing something like that early on, seeing how it's out there.

No reason they can't show off a 6" 3PO or the new Rebels Obi-Wan that was pictured months ago on that poster but never referred to since. At least, no reason related to the Ep 7 embargo.

IIRC, that became the holographic figure from the TRU Jedi Reveal set

Commander Thorn turned out nice....hard to tell how tall he is in the bubble though. Will be a nice complement to Fox though.

I've been watching Twitter this morning...  sounds like a prototype 6" Rebels Ahsoka (https://twitter.com/yak_face/status/588731702836482048) is on display in the Hasbro booth - coming to the 6" Black Series line in 2016.

edit:
Rebelscum (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Celebration_Anaheim_2015_Hasbro_Reveals_6Inch_Ahsoka_Tano_Action_Figure_163718.asp) has a really nice gallery for 6" Ahsoka

The only 3.75" new items are the Jawas, Han Carbonite, The cantina alien and C-3-PO?

Those aren't new... they've been showing them off since NYCC last October.

3.75" Mission Series Rebels Ahsoka and Rebels Vader are the only figures being show live for the first time...  so far.

Is this our first peek at the new Carbo-Han in package?  Looks like a lot of "value" for $10 ($12? $15?) there.

I meant unreleased.  It's kind of hard to type with the huge nerd boner I have after watching the trailer.

SSG has pics of the Hasbro booth.  The only reveals there are the Ahsoka prototype, a TBS 6" figure packaging mockup and packaged versions of Han in Carbonite, Commander Doom, Captain Rex, Commander Thorn and Commander Wolffe.

There was so much information flowing on Twitter, I honestly forgot where I saw them first.  Here's a Jedi News UK Tweet/instagram of Ahsoka (https://twitter.com/JediNewsUK/status/588501257733672960).  Vader pics are out there somewhere too, I just can't remember where I saw them.  :-\

Here are some pictures I took of the 6" line at the Hasbro booth at SWC. Interestingly, the 6" Taun Taun and Wampa were already scalped at vendor booths for $90.

I'm just glad that Wampa set has not been canceled. I still think it's a bad idea not to pack that in with the TaunTaun set. That speeder bike is DOA now.

Wolfpack Podcast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAUxMcvv5HY) interviewed Jeff Labovitz and another member of the Hasbro marketing team at SWCA.  Lots and lots of "Maybe.  That might be cool."  Or "We can't really talk about that much of Fall '15 right now".

Saw that and it's understandable that they can't comment on much.  I was surprised to hear there's more Rebels figures coming and also in 6" form.

As for the hint on the Walgreens exclusive 6" figure.  Some are saying The Emperor with lightning effects, but the Hasbro guy hinted Force Choke.. Perhaps it's Throne Room Battle Vader since he's pretty much the only person that does it.

I would think Palpatine, personally.  The first Walgreens exclusive was a variation on a previously released figure:  Boba Fett.  Considering that Palpatine is on the way in the 6" basic figure line I can kind of understand an exclusive Force Lightning version for Walgreens.  Especially in light of the fact that the Walgreens toy buyer tweeted an image of lightning when someone asked him a direct question about the 2015 exclusive.

I totally understand that Hasbro's hands are tied a bit about the Force Awakens stuff, but just reading some of the Q and A's (from Toy Fair and Celebration now), they just seem so reluctant to say anything - absolutely anything, about anything Fall 2015 and beyond.  It is almost like they can't even admit there will be Star Wars toys at all with how tight-lipped they are.  It does get a little annoying that they can't at least give a look at the future of what the line will be, even beyond the movie/"new media" stuff.  Will we still be getting articulated figures in the 3 3/4" scale?  Will we see anything from the other movies during the big Force Awakens push?  We get that you can't talk about the new movie stuff, but you can still act like there is a future for the rest of the line.  I know they don't have a panel here, but I'm hoping they show a couple of new things (besides the Ahsoka prototype, which looks very cool).

I guess what made me think of Vader is that he is the one that does the Force Choking.  Luke is the only other person in the movies that does it and Force Choke was the hint that the Hasbro rep made (not Jeff L).  Vader would be a variant, too, since Vader has also been released and the could add the lightning, see-through helmet and amputated wrist.  But since I listed the different parts, I can see why it probably wouldn't be Vader since Fett was a re-paint.  The Emperor would be cheaper since there wouldn't be retooling involved (just adding some lightning in the package).  But that Vader would be cool and welcomed by me.

The only thing about the exclusive Emperor is that if the only difference is the inclusion of Force Lightning, I would most likely wait for that version and skip the regular retail release... and I'm sure I'm not the only one with such sentiments.

Yeah, I was pretty much expecting that, though I thought it might just be at the other place.  I've deleted my post so as not to upset/excite/fuel anyone else.  You're right though, I should've just PM'd that preliminary fussy stuff to the folks who asked me to fill 'em in on my Hasbro chat(s) at C7 this weekend, rather than posting it publicly, especially after throwing a few back after the con last night.  I attribute it to 5 years of bottled up convention angst towards Hasbro, and forgetting that I don't "report" this stuff for JD anymore, and that it doesn't matter that I've had a different (actual) relationship with many of the Hasbro reps in the past.  I was just popping back in here again to mention the specific details of the rest of our chats, along with other info from talking with Disney about their droids, and from Hot Wheels (the new MicroMachine/Action Fleet company), and even a little GG, but I'll shut up with my incessant (and redundantly whiny) yapping.  If you hadn't noticed, I've always sucked at complacency.  I sometimes forget that it's supposed to be embarrassing to act like we actually care about any of this stuff here on a Star Wars toy forum - aside from articulation, of course.  That always gets a free pass.  Plus, I don't want to fall into a tie for last-place on the depth charts.

Apologies for the fright!  I shall return to my carbon-freeze hibernation mode.  Probably safer for all that way...  ;)

Hasbro didn't roll over and die at CA, but they sure were the dud of the show.  They brought a little more than was being implied but not much.  Their interaction was mocked on twitter since basically everyone else COULD say something about 2015 but they wouldnt...

For me the pisser was Disney out-Hasbro'd Hasbro with the BAD surprises.  I wanted everything they showed!

Every vendor had something neat going on.  Hasbro just kinda showed up.

Yeah...I mean, what are you really going to spoil at this point showing that first wave of 6" figures? Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren's costumes were all on display for everyone to see up close and prsonal, and we know who is playing those parts, so what is the need for all the secrecy? Except to be annoying?  ;)

Yeah, other licensees seemed to be into hinting at least what was coming for Ep7, Hasbro just stuck to the "we'll have something for everyone" type non-comment.

Then again, if they are killing collector 3.75" in favor of just 5POA 3.75" and collector 6", I can see why they'd like to keep that as quiet as possible for as long as possible.  :-X

Would have been nice if they could have at least tossed a Kylo/Poe/Finn/Rey prototype in the case to go along with that 6" Ahsoka that won't be released for a year.

Based on Phruby's pics, all Hasbro had to display was older Black Series stuff... you know, the stuff that isn't in production anymore, or never even showed up on pegs due to terrible distribution. Why even bother?

Glad I caught Not-JediMAC's post taking them to task. I'd even be happy with cookie cutter responses recognizing the problem or confirming what kind of lines we'll be getting in the future.

Hasbro had a real small cramped booth. Most of the vendors seemed to have a bigger booth. The outside of the booth was taken up entirely with Furbacca.  There was only one case of Star Wars figures. The rest was build your own lightsabers and crappy unpainted army men toys.  I was talking to someone else about the figures and I said loudly, Too bad you will never find them at retail stores! The hasbro guy was standing next to us and he just kind of sighed.
