Title: Nintendo Switch

First Look at Nintendo Switch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5uik5fgIaI)

Introducing Nintendo Switch! In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

The successor for both the Wii U and the 3DS is finally revealed, and it... looks interesting. Those parts are going to be hell to keep up with.

Hmmm. Interesting concept. Cartridge based. I like.

I guess I'm becoming an old fart, but I don't have any interest in portable gaming... I want powerful, stationary, living-room based systems with solid graphics.  The WiiU was the first console from the big 3 that I've skipped in years, and at a glance this does nothing for me.

In portable mode, it looks like the size of an Atari Lynx. Why couldn't they just make a docking station for the 3DS?

Exactly... if it plays the exact same when you have it portable vs. when you have it at your TV, isn't the whole thing a glorified portable device with a docking station?

You say that like it's a negative. You don't have to ever detach from the TV.

The real upside to this is that the split development of Console and Handheld will be over. All the best people will be on the same team working on, say, a new Mario.

I guess this means the end of the 3DS. No backwards compatibility with the 3DS or WiiU.

I'd say that The only backward compatibility will be through Virtual Console.

I suppose that's a fair point, but they can only cram so much power and hardware into a device that's designed to be that small.  I'm skeptical.

The iPhone 7 Plus can pump out 1080p and record that at 60fps, and it's way smaller than this Switch thing.  By transferring all the TV interfaces to the docking station, I think the size is reasonable to expect excellent performance in this size of a device.

I picked up a Switch with Mario Odyssey over the weekend and am loving it so far. Crazy that a system that powerful is contained in what is essentially one of those chain restaurant table tablets, and the games are all on Micro SD cards. Looking forward to picking up more games over the next few months.

We've always been more of a Nintendo house, and got a Switch opening day last year. I'm definitely not a "gamer" per se, but I have to say we love our Switch. I know it is an obvious one, but I highly recommend picking up Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I don't think I've ever loved (or played) a game so much.

See you later.

I bought one last September.  I've only played Breath of the Wild on it, but I played the absolute hell out of that game.

If you don't have Mario Kart 8....you have failed at life!   ;D

I bought it.  I just haven’t gotten around to playing it. I’m more into big wide open games with lots of story these days, or darker stuff.  I’ve played the Resident Evil 3 remake, Fallen Order, and Outer Worlds in the time since I finished Breath of the Wild.

I failed at life a long time ago. That was Double Dash's fault.

MK8 is on my short list, behind Animal Crossing and Zelda BotW. Gotta get a Pro Controller first. Those Joycons are garbage. Need to get a Micro SD card, too, because I'll pretty much be all-digital with this thing.

Only thing I've bought so far is Clubhouse Games. I'm a sucker for all those little pick-up-and-play casual games. So I've been playing that, and the NES and SNES games in the online service. Tried Tetris 99 the other day and sucked ass at it. Need to spend more time with that one.

I play Mario Kart with my two boys all the time.  I had to tell my six year old he can't rage quit when he gets hit by a shell!

He's gotten a lot better at the game since our talk.

My ten year old had to tell me that the other day  :-[

My kids are so much better at video games than I am.  I've long since given up trying to compete with them directly.

If we play a first person shooter game I'll be lucky to get 1 out of 10 kills.
