Well I picked this DVD up today, $15-ish... Not the best DVD, the video quality is nothing like the Live @ Woodstock DVD... The sound quality is good enough for me (which is the big thing).
Seems to me a few songs were spliced, or Jimi switched over REALLY abruptly or something... That's an oddity that irritates me, as well as a few shots/angles being completely dumb... at one point there's a shot of some black kid playing the saxophone, completely random... During the concert, all a sudden it breaks to a audio clip of Hendrix commenting on "fan"s trying to break into the theatre. Overall the show isn't flawed, the DVD is... whoever edited this was on acid or something.
The Purple Haze and Star Spangled Banner are always cool, this particular version is one of my favorites. Another neat thing about the DVD is that Hendrix seems to have picked a lot with his teeth this time around.
For $15, anyone whose still impressed by Hendrix's same-ol songs, teeth-playing ability, and just 'seeing him in action' should grab this one.
Score - 7 outta 10, maybe.

Hey Brad--this isn't about the Berkeley DVD (sorry), but I was just wondering if you had the Complete Monterey Pop Festival DVD set that Criterion released last year.

I don't have it, myself (don't have any Hendrix on DVD, actually, come to think of it), but I've always heard a ton of good stuff about it.
It's a three-disc set, but one of those discs is entirely devoted to Jimi's performance at the festival--this was the show where he set fire to his guitar, offering it up to the gods.
Bunch of other stuff, too--Otis Redding, The Who, Simon and Garfunkel, etc.
Prices for this thing are in the $55-70 range, which might be a bit expensive if all you're interested in is the Jimi stuff, but if you haven't seen it yet, it might be worth at least renting or checking it out from the library or something. Supposed to be really good.

I don't have it and I haven't seen any of it, but I've had my eyes on it for quite awhile... It's a tad out of my price range, but since I'm a sucker I'll probably pick it up eventually.
If you ever decide to pick up a Hendrix DVD, I've only got Woodstock 69 and Jimi Plays Berkeley so far, but Woodstock 69 is definately the better buy.
If I do get Mont. Pop I'll be sure to post the review here. :-*
