Title: what kind of "other" sw collectibles do you collect, and what do you have most
Post by: jokabofe on November 12, 2003, 09:07 PM
well, i pretty much collect anything that has a star wars logo or character on it, some more religiously than others. books, cd's, posters, props, christmas ornaments, statues, games - video and board, you name it, i probably got it if i could afford it.

but what do you have the most of?

for me, it's t-shirts. i have close to 100 t-shirts in my collection, and it grows constantly. almost every day i'm checking ebay for shirts that i don't have. and in case you are wondering, yes - i do wear them all, just not at the same time  ;)

so what do you collect, and what do you have the most of?

TShirts are probably one of the few things I dont collect.

As for "Other Collectibles", I religiously collect:

Video Games from the current systems
Books
Comics
Magazines
Food Containers/Promos/Displays (including Pepsi cans, cereal boxes)
Standups/POP/Store displays. Just got a very awesome Rebel Strike standup!
Ornaments
MR Props
GG Mini Busts
Koto Vinyl kits
Videos
Film Cels
Posters
Autographs
Candy containers/premiums (I LOVE my Kinder hippos!)
Kubricks
Code 3 Diecast (although have yet to invest in the XWing)
Pins
Stamps
Legends in 3D busts
Riddell Mini Helmets
Select Illusive Originals items (Jabba and Rancor, really want Han in Carbonite)
Official Custom Star Wars prints (Clone Wars right now)
Magazines
LEGO
Board games
Event passes (C1, C2)
Event merchandise (tons of stuff from C1 and C2)
Miscellaneous non categorical items, just about anything if it appeals to me

If I'm not mistaken, I believe we have a thread similar to this already.  Its probably buried on another page and I'm too lazy to look for it, maybe a mod can merge?

Anyway, I collect:

-Books
-Comics
-Unleashed (I have all of them that are released)
-Lego, at least one of every set released.  Just missing some of the larger things like UCS and newer sets like Dagabah Xwing and Cloud City
-PEZ dispensers - I don't think I have them all, but I do have most of them
-Hallmark ornaments - not even close to a complete set, just sporatic ones here and there
-John Andretti's AOTC Nascar car (1/24th scale) and the 1/64th cars that I got from a Cheerios mail in offer.  I don't have the Jeff Gordon TPM Pepsi car.  Even with my love of all things Star Wars, I refuse to buy anything to do with that tool.

Here's (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=724) a link to that other thread I was talking about.

And I forgot one item in my above post that I mentioned in the other thread:  The Applause figural mugs. I have a complete set, including the Silver Vader and the two released for AOTC - Jango and Clonetrooper.

I've been avoiding this thread like the plague, since I'm almost embarrassed at all the different "other collectibles" I'm into (though Adam's just as bad, some of which I'm just copying here), but I guess it's time I finally chime in, so here goes:

Kubricks
Code 3
Legos - OT only, missing UCS Star Destroyer and Cloud City playset
Playskool - OT only
Action Fleet/MicroMachines - OT only
All Star Wars PC Computer Games
Books - anything reference or collecting related & about half the novels
Comics - TPBs only, but falling far behind
Magazines - hundreds
Music - CDs & records
Fast food premiums - Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc.
Food Containers/Promos (including Pepsi cans, cereal boxes, chip bags)
Original Trilogy Hallmark Ornaments
Palmtalkers
Master Replicas FX lightsabers
All Hasbro roleplaying lightsabers (the $20 electronic ones)
Videos, DVDs, bootlegs, commercials, Holiday Special, parodies, etc.
Posters - about 35
Autographs - not too many
Pez Dispensers
Watches - 4 different
Bookmarks - everyone gives me these as cheap/silly gifts all the time
Riddell Mini Helmets - missing Stormtrooper of course
Electronic and Board games - Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Battleship, etc.
Shirts - about 15
Personal hygiene crap - soap, chapstick, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.
Applause mugs - OT only
Artwork - McQuarrie prints & some original work by various artists
Electronic gadgets like R2-D2 phone, lightsaber remote control, FX banks, remote control R2
Film cels - just a handful
Calendars - 12 months and daily for most years
Trading Cards (Topps mostly, just a few CCGs)
etc., etc., etc...

I think I need some help.   :-[

I'll have to look at the other thread to see if I responded, but you guys are all seemingly missing a really cool collectable.

Tomy mini dioramas.  I hooked Jim on these (sorry) but they just rock.  There have been two series thus far.  I traded with a friend in Japan to get the first set but opted to go the HLJ route the second time.  I ordered a case of 10 and got two complete sets of the latter.  Unfortunately I busted up the second set as someone wanted to buy just one of the pieces.

Like the Kubricks, they come in sealed boxes.  I presume my luck with a case is the norm, so when series 3 comes around, I'll be ordering again.  If you don't order the case, the hunt is worse than Kubricks as the exterior packaging is identical for all pieces and you cannot tell what you have until you open the box.

Series 1

The bases on those are maybe 1.5-2" on a side (duly noting Falcon base is round - the only one)

series 2

Those are definitely cool Brent.  I remember seeing the early news on those and being interested, but not wanting to deal with the whole Japan thing.

So they're only a couple inches square, eh?  Cool.  I love miniature stuff.  What'd they run you?

Well, the first set was pricy, as I was trading and shipping to Japan runs $21 (then)/$24 now for a small package.  I had to send two packages over to get a full set :-\

I wised up on the second set and the price for each unit after shipping and customs (for Canuckleheads) was around $5 US each.  Pretty cheap really.  As I said above, they come in sealed boxes, so a case really is the only way to go.  I'm not certain if every case has two complete sets, but I would bet it does.

Second set might still be available, or is cheap on ebay (~$5-10 per piece).  First set can run a chunk of change, around $50 for all five pieces.  I believe the droids from the first set were the hardest to find.  No idea why.

I'm completely unaware of plans for a third set.   I sort of stumbled onto the second set by luck.  I think HLJ sold out, so good indication of future sets.  They really are spectacular.  I have all but the Qui-Gon/Maul as spares from the second set still.

And yeah, Luke's face sucks, but no worse than a lot of the 3 3/4" Luke's behind me right now.   :-\

I've seen some pics of those TOMY mini dioramas before, and they are kind of neat.  I thought about collecting them as well, but put it off because (once again) lack of money and space.  For now, I have been kind of limited in my "other collectibles" simply because I spend time, space, and money on the 3 3/4" line...but I hope to get into it more in the future.  For now, I'm pretty limited to:

Movie Posters (my wife has gotten me the OT posters, framed, and I have an Episode II one in the closet waiting to be framed).

Applause Mug/Hamilton Plate - Only have one of each of these, found at a garage sale.  R2-D2 mug, and a Millennium Falcon plate.  I'm happy with them though.

Playskool - I have all of the OT sets, and I hope they release more.  I would probably buy any OT figures, vehicles, sets they would release.

Unleashed - Pretty much OT only on this as well, although I do have Jango and Yoda.  Others so far are Jedi Luke, Han, Boba, as well as Chewie and Hoth Luke on preorder.

Misc - Yoda pez dispenser, Ask Yoda, Darth Vader Palm Talker, Vader/Jango/Stormtrooper candy head things, Frito Lay puzzle piece things from Episode II, Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, Clonetrooper/Obi-Wan life size standees, Micro Machines Dagobah, Taco Bell Yoda, Episode I C-3PO Pepsi Cup, OT pencil art poster.  All I can think of right now.

Dale was kind enough to point out that HLJ.com had the series 3 set of Tomy mini-dioramas up for pre-order.  No idea at all what they will be, but I preordered a box anyway.  ~$30 US plus the shipping.  Ordered a single box of the mini-magnets at the same time, boy, I sure hope those are a complete set per box.

The mini-dioramas seem to be as intelligently selected as the Kubrick stuff, so here's hoping that continues.  I expect there will be two prequel treatments in this one and hopefully three OT treatments.  4-1 would be better, but I'm trying to be realistic.  It would be nice to see a Jabba.  Sandcrawler with Jawas would be good too.

Pay attention (http://www.ncsx.org/2004/ncs030804/ncs0308m.htm), ya' goof!  All AOTC stuff this time 'round...  (scroll all the way down)

You're welcome.   :-*

Thanks Matt.  HLJ.com didn't list them like that site does.  I had searched on google just a couple of days prior to that announcement and hadn't done so since.  Didn't feel like wasting more time.

Can't say I'm overly happy with all AOTC and frankly I think it is too soon to do another Yoda considering he was in series 2.   ::)  Granted it looks nice and all of the others look pretty good too.  I was fearing arena battle stuff, so that's an improvement.

The battle between Obi and Jango with their ships was a great scene in the movie, so those two ships are a nice treatment.  The Slave I actually looks really cool, but the starfighter looks like it crashed.  Dooku on the speeder bike is, um, ok, I guess.  Glad to have a Dooku, but would rather have had something styled like the unleashed figure or a duel with Anakin having both sabers.  The previous series had Qui-Gon and Maul dueling, so this would have made a nice complement to that piece.  Oh well.  I can't quite make out the details of the Gunship figure from that pic, so I'll have to wait and see on it.

Presumably I'll have two complete sets out of the one box if anyone wants a set, they're welcome to them.  C&S.
