Title: Ghostbusters Figures!
Post by: Scott on November 13, 2003, 09:29 AM
These were announced in Toyfare #77

Quote
NECA first got a sense of how much fan-demand there was for Ghostbusters action figures when they releasedtheir Ghostbusters "Body-Knockers"--bobbling figurines of Slimer and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man--earlier this year. "The reaction was huge," Chris Farinas said. "Action figures seemed to be the next logical step. The fan base has always wanted the line."
The first line of 7-inch scale action figures will focus on the creatures of 'Ghostbusters', including Slimer, with an ectoplasm display base and munching action; Gozer, with interchangable head and hands and translucent energy beams; terror dogs Zuul and Vinz Clortho, each with light-up eyes and a temple base; and an 18-inch rotocast Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, with a city street base, an altenate head and movable eyes.
In addition to the ghost figures, there will also be a line of Ghostbusters Genomes, featuring block figures of the original foursome--Venkman, Spengler, Stantz and Zeddmore--with a Slimer figure thrown in for good measure.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but will there be any 7-inch figs of the GBs themselves?
Title: Re: Ghostbusters Figures!
Post by: Angry Ewok on December 29, 2003, 12:35 PM
From what Scott was saying, it sounds like the first wave of stuff will be the dogs/etc, then the second wave will have the GB's. Why they would release the GB's after anything else, is completely beyond me.

Has details as well as a first shot of Slimer, still no word on what is happening with the Busters themselves so take that for what it is worth, what's the point of a Ghostbusters line without Ghostbusters?

I know that the guys who played the GBs in the films didn't sign off for their likenesses to be used in the cartoon, so maybe NECA's trying to secure those rights or something.

It does seem like suicide to release a line without the titular characters in the first series, but with Slimer and Stay Puft, we might not have anything to worry about.

I saw a face-sculpt of the dog, very nice, very realistic looking. Hopefully the GB's will be released... Can't wait to see the Puft-ster.

This was posted over at action-figure.com, apparently the rumor is that NECA has acquired "all likeness rights" to the Ghostbusters franchise.  I hope this is true, I'd like to see how the 'busters themselves would turn out.  Also, there is some pictures of the Terror Dogs, Gozer, Stay Puft, and Slimer here:

Is that the actual box? Interesting choice to leave it open-aired. Where is the second head in there?

I've gotta find these damn things...

Post by: SiteC on May 19, 2004, 08:30 PM
There will be no second head.  The idea for it was dropped a while back to save $$... :(

I hate open air packages.  They mean that the unwashed hands of the masses must feel up mr. Staypuft before he comes home with me.

Damn you to hell Neca.

I don't like the Stay Puft, and that was the main one I wanted. The face is all wrong. I'll be getting Slimer if I see him for a reasonable price. I'd love to get the Ecto (if its made) as well as the Ghostbusters (if they are made).  :-\

It sounds like Mattel (http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=241&itemid=14026) is set to launch an all-new Ghostbusters line of toys, exclusive to MattyCollector.com.  I have seen them mention debuting an "all-new line" at NYCC, and this may be it.  More info at the linky, but it sounds like it will start with 12" figures, complete with actual actor likenesses, launching in June.  There is also mention of a 6" line a little later on, with that being shown first at SDCC.

I picked up the Hell-hounds, Gozer, Slimer, & Staypuff. The only one I might be interested in getting would be Vigo w/cup of pink ooze and a Vigo painting. Otherwise I will pass.

Not to be off topic - but isn't GB3 being made?  I heard that Dan Akryod was originally going to release it as a video game or something, but then he decided to revive it back into a movie.

The video game is coming out this summer (titled "Ghostbusters: The Video Game", natch) and is, for all intents and purposes, Ghostbusters 3.

FINALLY !!!!! I have been waiting for years for someone to make figures of my favorite childhood movie (it is the 25th anniversary after all). The likeness is outstanding, the bad thing about it is that it is mattel after all, like He-Man is going to cost $25 a piece for them  :'( .  I just wished that hasbro would have pick up the rights because they may have done both movie and the real ghostbusters versions.

Yeah, Walter Peck kinda puzzled me too. I think the big selling point for him though is that he comes with the ghost containment unit, which is a pretty large assesory.

Slightly OT, but I saw some of you guys have mentioned the Mattel Ghostbusters stuff in here. I'd love to get the six inch figures, but I know they're going from $30-70 each right now - is there any chance at all Mattel will be doing more runs of them, or is what's out there all there will be? I don't want to bite on an expensive lot to find them cheaper in retail reissues.

Toyguru has said that they do plan on reissuing the Ghostbusters stuff eventually.  I missed out on Peck because I figured he would be around for a while.  I really want the containment unit.  They also are going to give us non slimed versions of Egon and Venkman.  Ray with his lab coat will come out next.  Lab Coat Ray comes with the subway ghost, and I'll bet the other lab coat 'Busters will have new ghosts as well.  I would also guess they will get around to giving us the darker uniforms from the second movie, Ray with his headgear and 6 inchers with removable proton packs.

Watch this week's episode of Mall Cops:Mall of America on TLC if you get a chance.  It's the "lockdown" episode and there is a quick segment at the beginning with the Twin Cities Ghostbusters.  They had their full gear on and the custom made Chevy Ecto 1 that I have witnessed on area highways before.

Anybody going to buy the 2011 Ecto-1 sub Matty will be offering this week?  I'm going to buy one along with a MOTUC one to save on shipping and sale day headaches.  I'm guessing Matty will make only a fixed amount of GB figures like they did with MOTU so the demand goes up and the line explodes. Mattel really is lucky they make toys people want, because they sure know how to screw with us.

I'm thinking about getting the sub, but I'm going to wait till we see whats shown at SDCC. Ultimately, if the sub is going to be 80% comprised of variants of the main 4 then I really have no interest.

Title: Re: Ghostbusters Figures!
Post by: Greedo The Green Menace on July 23, 2010, 06:13 PM
The direction this line is taking is very disappointing to me, though I'm not at all surprised considering it's Mattel. Honestly, all those new figure reveals and only one of em is actually not a GB variant. Theres so much potential here, considering all the neat ghost designs and whatnot, but they just keep putting out minor variations because of their "lets reuse these molds to death" policies. It works for DCU and MOTU, but for Ghostbusters? Not so much.

That $50 PKE meter is pretty bad ass - the folks in the prop replica world are pretty upset about it, since they've spent a lot of time and money making basically the same thing, electronics and all. It's all good with me. I'll definitely track one of these down.

Here's a video, if you missed it. (http://protoncharging.com/gb/2010/07/23/mattel-pke-meter-in-action/)

For anyone interested EE has "retro-action" Ghostbuster figures up for order. 8" figures with cloth outfits in retro Mego style packaging. It's just the main 4 but they're around $20ea. They won't be out until January according to the site but it's something else to consider if you just want the main 4 and don't want to go the Matty site path or have a scale preference. Not sure how they compare to what mattycollector is offering but I've ordered these instead of dealing with the frustration of the matty site. It kills me though that they'll do this for GB but won't do a retail line for MOTU.

I signed up for it. Really the only reason being the Tully figure coming out. I know that one will be super hot and hard to get. As for the rest I am still mixed on them, but for $20 bucks it was worth it to me, especially since there are only 6 figures in a year not 12 like MOTU.

It's exactly the same set. There are two different types of packaging, one with the hats on, and one without, but they both have the hats included (which are removable).

Saw it.  Liked it.  Not for $50.

If you're into the Mattel line, these are a great deal, considering they charge $20 a piece for single figures as it is, and they've never released any GBII figures at all until now. Separately, they'd be $80 if they sold that way. If you really do like them, you're not gonna find them cheaper, that's for sure.

Anyone buying from this line?  I haven't gotten anything yet, but for some reason recently have been re-considering picking up a couple of the Ghostbusters at least.  One of my favorite movies as a kid, so I sort of thought about picking a few up.  Not sure if I should even bother going down that road though.  Cool that they are possibly making Ecto-1 though, I would have been all over that as a kid (if it was lower priced of course).  I remember having some of the Ghostbusters stuff from the cartoon, but not much else.
