Title: Thanksgiving Plans?
Post by: FX-7 on November 25, 2003, 03:32 PM
Me and my fiancee are headed to Montana for the holidays.  Leaving today and coming back Sunday.  Should be fun.  We usually deep fry a turkey...a few years ago my uncle started a fire by dumping over the oil!

We are actually staying home for once on a holiday- I am tired of always running here or there so its time we make our own traditions. So its turkey day at home watching football, The Packers are playing so I will have an enjoyable day home-

We're having my parents over for bird, stuffing and fixins

I've heard that the deep fried Turkey is delicious but also very dangerous...anyone get hurt in that fiasco Lenny?

Fried Turkey is Great.  I have yet to do it myself (much to my wifes pleasure), but my Uncle Does one every year since it got "trendy" and it is always evenly cooked and tender throughout, and he used to petrify some poor butterballs back in the Smoker days.

Luckily for me, both sets of MY Grandparents live with 30 minutes drive and this our year to be with my family so I actually get the day off. (not to mention the InLaws don't watch TV on Thanksgiving, some sort of tradition)

Should be fun though, since my brother and his wife are FINALLY getting the divorce they have been fighting about for a year..., but sadly for me his wife is still coming with him, so we may have some Springer Episodes before the Cowboy game. (if they try getting loud or disruptive DURING the game, my 88 year old Guadalcanal Vet Grandfather will throw them out of the house, he loves the Corps and Cowboys)

The other twist this year is that I am on day 16 of the South Beach Diet..so Turkey=good, everything else=eat while the wife isn't looking....

I'll take fried turkey over baked any day of the week.  Its faster and more juicier.  Its probably not healthier, but who the hell cares, its Thanksgiving.  And I don't think its dangerous at all.  Obviously, do it outside or in the garage and put the turkey in real slow to reduce splatter and to to "temper" the turkey.  Good stuff.

As for my plans, I'm going to my sister-in-laws tonight (late, as sitting in 50+ miles of traffic on the Mass Pike sucks ass and it only leads to arguments with the significant other).  Tomorrow - prepare dinner, watch football, eat, watch more football and enjoy myself while the ladies clean up.  We'll go home tomorrow night as the wife has to work on Friday.

One of my Thanksgiving traditions is to watch one my all time favorite movies...Planes, Trains and Automobiles

I have probably seen this movie 300 times but it never gets old

It saddens me to think that Candy died so young...RIP Big Guy

We're doing the usual "going to the families" tradition this year.  It kind of gets old driving back and forth everywhere, but it is nice to see the families too.  We are headed to my wife's parents tomorrow, then my side of the family on Friday.  We also had one a week ago at my mom's side, and have another one on Saturday at my wife's mother's side...not sure if we'll go or not yet...we might be traveled out by then.  OCB--my wife and I actually watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles every year too, one of our favorite movies.  Really underrated I think, we still laugh outloud at many of the parts...especially the rental car scene with Steve Martin :).

Our house too!  My Mom LOVES that movie, so we usually check it out over Thanksgiving.

Same ol', same ol' for us - Patty and I are heading down to Orange County to hang out with my family (parents in from AZ) earlier on Thursday for a late Thanksgiving "lunch", then have Thanksgiving dinner with her family about 15 minutes away.  Talk about "stuffing"...  I'm usually ready to yak by the end of the night from food overload.  Two Thanksgiving spread about 5 hours apart is a bit too much to stomach!   :P

Mix in some football, yummy appetizers, a few drinks, etc.  We'll hang out with our families for the remainder of the weekend and get in more of the same, with a healthy dose of leftovers and X-mas shopping thrown in!   8)

Sometimes I feel like members of other forums (not our esteemed JD members need a little Neal Page every now and then'

"I mean, didn't - didn't you notice on the plane, when you were telling your little stories, I started reading the vomit bag? Didn't that give you some sort of clue, like, Hey, maybe this guy's not enjoying it? You know, everything is not an anecdote. You have to discriminate. You choose things that are - that are funny, or mildly amusing, or interesting. You're a miracle - your stories have none of that! They're not even amusing...accidentally! "
