Title: Virex's monthly "Anyone want a free Suncoast DVD coupon?" thread
Post by: Matt on December 31, 2003, 06:26 PM
Hey, kids.

So, uh. . .  For Christmas, I got this nifty little "movie trivia day-by-day calendar" thing from Suncoast.  Typical stuff, but as a bonus, at the first of every month of 2004, they put in a coupon for their store, good for that month only, that you can use. . .  to buy stuff. . .  at their. . .  store.

For example, for January, they've got a "$5 Off any Anime DVD" coupon, for any Anime DVDs regularly priced at $19.99 and above, good from 1/1/04 to 1/31/04.  Now, two things here:

 - I have no interest in Anime whatsoever;

-and even if I did, I sure as hell wouldn't be buying anything from Suncoast, with their usually-exorbitant prices.

But anyway, I figured that maybe someone here would be interested, for whatever reason, and rather than just throw the coupons I'm not interested in away, I thought I'd offer them up to you guys.

So, if you want a coupon, just post a reply to this thread, first-come, first-served, and send me a PM with your mailing address, and I'll drop it in the mail for you.

(I will reserve the right to keep any coupons that may interest me--which, flipping through, it doesn't look like that many of them do.  But I'll update this thread each month with a new coupon for that month.)

What do you guys think?  Does this idea suck, or does it suck?   :-\

(And post a reply if you want the $5 Anime coupon for January.)  :)

wow, that's pretty cool of you to do that for people, virex. and i'm not being sarcastic (for once ;) )

i would use that coupon myself, 'cause i buy lots of anime, but, like you said... for what i would pay in suncoast for a dvd - any dvd - i can usually get two, sometime three at best buy. and since i got a dvd burner recently, i don't think i'll be buying any dvd any time soon. except for the blank kind, of course  ;)

So is it safe to say that I can chunk this $5 anime coupon in the trash?   :D

Doesn't seem like anyone's too interested at all, which is too bad, since, looking ahead, February's coupon is "Buy One DVD, Get Three Free".

Oh well.

Only three??? If it was four free I'd maybe consider it, but I don't want you to have my address. There's no way I trust you.  >:(

yeah, really... if it really is "buy one get three free" there's got to be some kind of catch to it...

It was a joke, folks.  A poorly-crafted one, and an unfunny one, but technically a joke nonetheless.

Sorry.

Looking at the "for real" February coupons, there's two:  $5 off any DVD, good for 2/1-2/14, and $3 off any Best Picture DVDs, good for 2/15-2/29.

At this point, I'll probably be hanging onto both of those.

The sh!tty $5 anime coupon is still available, though.   :-\

Cute.

I just want to know exactly how in the BLUE HELL a nice, innocent, community-friendly idea I had here could turn into this absolute cluster**** of a thread.  What is this, Rebelscum?  What are you people. . .  ON DOPE?

So what I'm understanding here, correct me if I'm wrong, is that you're not giving me any money so now I'm left basically with nothing. I'm left with zero. What can I do with zero, y'know, what can...I-I can't do anything with it. This is my life here, we're talking about we're not talking about something else, we're talking about my life, y'know and it's forcing me to do something I don't want to do. To leave to go out and just leave and go home and say make a clean cut here and say "no way, Matty. you're not putting up with these people" and I'll tell why I can't put up with you people--because you're bastard-people. That's what you are! You're just bastard people and I'm goin' home and I'm gonna I'm gonna bite my pillow! Is what I'm gonna do.

What a great avatar that drinking bird would make.  Too bad I'm a dumbass when it comes to that sort of thing at all times.

I think I'm going to buy one of those drinking birds off Ebay or something.  It's like the Rubik's Cube that I bought last week--doesn't really serve much of a purpose (like this thread, too, natch), but wouldn't it just be nice to own one?

So, while searching for an animated drinking bird thing, I came across this page (http://www.thepricesright.com/un3.htm), which, in addition to the drinking birds for sale, is also offering the "Donkey Cigarette Dispenser":

"Just push his ears and he awakes from slumber , lifts up his tail, and calmly ejects one cigarette . . .to the amazement and delight of everyone watching. Carries his load of regular size cigarettes on his back. A clever novelty and practical cigarette dispenser. Individually boxed"

Now, I don't know about you fellas, but seeing this made me want to take up smoking, just to be able to pull one of these bad boys out of my pocket the next time a honey asks to bum a smoke. . .

Also, I've changed my name to "Virex Star Wars Luke Skywalker 2015".  The old name, frankly, just wasn't Star Warsy enough.  So now, everyone will know.

The two of you who I'm friends with (or the eighteen of you who I owe money to) may call me "VSWLS2015" for short.

The rest of you can will refer to me as Mr. Virex Star Wars Luke Skywalker 2015.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Mr. Virex Star Wars Luke Skywalker 2015, I think you still need to add a "Darth" or "Jedi" into your name there somewhere, otherwise you're really no better off, as it still doesn't sound very Star Warsy to me.  Thanks for your consideration...

And is 2015 when Hasbro's license runs out, or is that when we'll see the final Trilogy?  You lost me there.  Thanks.

Okay.  2015 has nothing to do with Star Wars, and the only person here who might have any idea what that's a reference to is Xander, but that's a long shot, and he's not even usually here, anyway, so whatever.

But, if it makes you feel better, then the answer to your question is "yes".

And there is no need explaining,

First of all, you're old.  "Four Leaf Clover"?  WTF is that?  Some kind of old 78 RPM-type deal?  I can't even relate to that, which takes me out of your "song/joke/whatever" from the get-go.

And secondly, this whole thread was created out of my desire to do something nice for my fellow forumites, many of whom I've talked down to, mocked, patronized, abused, harassed, made fun of, or otherwise treated like sh!t over the years.  I wanted to kind of repay my debt to the internet society by offering up (for free, mind you) some coupons, that were honestly pretty crappy to begin with.

But nooooooooooo!  Virex can't have that!  And all of the little trolls and ne'er-do-wells, led by a so-called "moderator", of this very site, came out of the woodwork to f--k my thread up.

But you know what?  It's okay.

I see how you all are.

No.  This is a Star Wars site after all.  Therefore, it's time to get with the program.  Try this one on for size:

Virex Darth Star Wars Luke Skywalker 2015 Jedi

I think that might help you fit in a little better around here, and then you wouldn't get hassled so much by the likes of Henrik, jjks, and hs_506.  Just a thought...

See, that's kind of what I was thinking of, before I ultimately decided against your crappy idea.  I was gonna switch it up a bit, though, and go with:

Virex Star Darth Wars Luke Skywalker 2015 Jedi.

See, so that little difference in the placement of "Darth"--my would-be version kicks your version's ass.  Sorry, dude.

I'm not up on my "Space Ghost lingo", but is this the same as "tossin' the salad"?  ???

So, anyway, I've been in self-imposed seclusion, and during this time, I've given some thought to the recent "goings-on" here, and I've decided that my former name (Virex Star Wars Luke Skywalker 2015) was actually too Star Wars, so I've changed it back to Plain Ol' Virex, which actually doesn't make any sense, because if it was really plain ol' Virex, then it would just read as "Virex" and not "Plain Ol' Virex", which actually isn't plain ol' anything, so it's kind of like that one dude's sig I've seen that says "This space intentionally left blank", well, if it were really left blank, then there wouldn't be a sig at all, so in a way, it's like a subtle wink to the reader, like to make them think, because life is not what it seems.

Remember that.

This is the "Official Rebelscum Appreciation Thread".

No, it's not, Texas Sucks.  If it was the "Official Rebelscum Appreciation Thread", then it would be titled "Official Rebelscum Appreciation Thread".  No, this is my monthly "Anyone want a free Suncoast DVD coupon?" thread, which, as you can see, has been an incredible success since it's inception.

You're a day too late.  See, I was the thing that sucked last week, but, seeing as it's a new week today, I've got to come up with something new.

Besides, there's nothing here in Oklahoma.  As I once explained to a drunken Irishman (redundancy) while taking a piss in a Dublin back alley on St. Patrick's Day, 1999, there ain't nothin' in Oklahoma but horses and hills.  And, like he replied, "I like horses alright, but I'm not too fond of hills."

He then offered me some cocaine, and I respectfully declined, and went back to my pub.

Nah, I'm saving that for the second week of October.

Still haven't decided on something for this week, but I'm thinking of something along the lines of "all things Joss Whedon".

Nice rolleyes, by the way.

I'm not up on my "Space Ghost lingo", but is this the same as "tossin' the salad"?  ???

I'm sure there's some story behind it all, but I just like the sound of it.

Damn, can I get a hint though as to what February's coupon will be, maybe I'll have one of my 42 aliases on this site claim it for me (I.E. DSJ, Membraneman, Sprry75, JediMAC, Morgbug, jjks, Henrik, Chris Berry, Angry Ewok, Famine, FX-7, dustrho, Boba Binks, Snively Bandar, Darth Kenobi, Mikey D, HMI, Spuffy, rebeltrader etc) they all really don't post here, I am just impersonating them all.  Its tough to keep the little nuances straight but I have some crib note to help

And I'm not too scared, Lee Greenwood and Dave Coulier are still alive.  In fact...let me check, ah yes, for a dead man he sure has a busy stand up schedule for the first half of the year....

I should know, I run the Official Dave Coulier Fan Club, so the rest of you guys can just cut-it-out and go straight-to-hell!

See if you can conjure up a similar avatar with an Adam Duritz head.

It's funny--Adam Duritz stinks.  And I'm not even talking about his "music".  He literally stinks.  I had the "pleasure" of standing in line next to him last year at a basketball game, and he smelled of some combination of feet and cabbage.

As for his "music"--I'm just glad I'm above bashing someone for their musical tastes. . .

Its July and people want to know what this months coupon is

Funny story, I sold some figures to a guy here on the boards and he sent me his money and a Suncoast Coupon.  It was for $5 off 2 Romance Movies.  Excited I headed to the local Suncoast and picked out two movies...Take 69 and 1 Night In Paris [Hilton], and went up the counter.

The coupon was $5 off a I went to Suncoast and picked up It had expired  and I slapped that bad boy out on the counter and the girl who was ringing me up looked at it and said..."Oh, those free sh!tty DVD coupons are no longer accepted at our store.  We were losing too much money on all the people that were using them, so we stopped the program"  Well not wanting to pay full price for my Romance flicks I went and put them back. And went out of the store empty handed :-[
