Just curious about everyone's weekly/monthly reading habits, and what all magazines everyone out there subscribes to. I currently subscribe to Sports Illustrated, Star Wars Insider, Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide. That's it. I used to have several other subscriptions, but found myself not getting as much use out of those magazines, so I cut them loose and now I just browse through them at the local bookstore when I have the time.
My girlfriend enjoys reading all those crap chick magazines, like Vogue, Cosmo, etc. and they all really screw with her head! ::)
What do you guys read on a regular basis?
-
I'll have to renew SW Insider. Keeps slipping my mind.
I get:
Premiere
Spin (so I can bash what they say online)
And actually, that's it. Hrm.
-
I have subscriptions at my office for Time and People, for the lobby.
At home I have The Insider, Shotgun News, The Texas Bar Journal, Vietnam, World War II, Cowboy Chronicle and Guns of the Old West.
-
I buy Star Wars Insider at bookstores, but I don't subscribe to it. Maybe I should? :P
This year, I get:
Electronic Gaming Monthly
Discover
:)
-
Let's see, I get:
Popular Photography, Outdoor Photography, Photographic, Shutterbug, Star Wars Insider, National Geographic, & Cosmo.
-
Sports Illustrated
ESPN the Magazine (I got this for free somehow ???)
Rolling Stone (My buddy gives me this as a Christmas Present every year ???)
SW Insider
-
I subscribe to several outdoor hunting and fishing magazines. :)
I buy Insider whenever the cover grabs my attention.
Kevin
-
EGM
US News
National Geographic
Subcribing to insider soon.
-
I'm a magazine subsciption junkie. Right now, I get all of these (in the order that I like them :))
Men's Health
Spin
Utne Reader
The Nation
The Economist
Rolling Stone
And in the past, I've subscribed to
Star Wars Insider
Men's Fitness
Details
Time
Newsweek
US News & World Report
Vegetarian Times
...but none of those seemed to be worth it anymore.
-
i'm also a magazine junkie... right now i subscribe to:
maxim
fhm
stuff
blender
spin
rolling stone
.net magazine
java developer
maximum pc
software development
wired
photoshop user
game informer
star wars insider
fangoria
rue morgue
and those are just the ones that are sitting on my coffee table waiting to be read ;D - not counting the ones that i usually just buy at the newstand when i'm bored and need something to read. damn, i'm a geek...
-
i get vogue! >:( also get thrasher and spin though.
-
I'm not really much of a magazine subscriber anymore, since I'll just browse through most of the ones that interest me at the bookstores and magazine stands. I used to get about 8 back when I was in school, but right now, the only ones I get are:
Star Wars Insider (I've been subscribed ever since the very first issue)
Sports Illustrated (Patty and I got this from her dad for X-mas)
Ice Magazine (Music news, and all the upcoming CD release dates)
Patty gets all that intellectual teacher kinda stuff, like
Smithsonian
National Geographic
Couple Archaelogy rags
Couple History rags
etc.
-
I subscribe to:
Maxim
Stuff
FHM
Golf
Boston Globe (not a magazine but worth mentioning)
And buy every month:
Playboy
Wizard
-
Just the Insider, but I might subscribe to the Star Trek magazine eventually. I'm not a Trek-er, though, I just like Sci-Fi mags I guess. :-\
-
I currently am subscribed too:
Star Wars Insider, Maxim, Stuff, Lee's Action Figure Review, Toy Fair.
-
Not much anymore.
ScoreGolf (Canadian)
Insider (where's my membership kit ??? >:()
Used to have a ton more. Pick up Toyfare often, no point in subscribing, it's cheaper to buy at Walmart than to have the subscription when in Canada.
-
am i seeing correctly? playboy and maxim? :o
-
am i seeing correctly? playboy and maxim? :o
This, from someone with a forum nickname of Playgirl?!? :P
-
am i seeing correctly? playboy and maxim? :o
And Stuff and FHM. So?
-
dont let me forget FHM oops! Oh yea and Men's Health
-
SW Insider
Import Tuner
GamePro
Maxim
-
WWE Magazine
Lego Club
GamePro
Not very many magazines for me...
-
You know what's funny, is that someone apparently gave us a subscription to Sports Illustrated for Christmas, I think, but we've never figured out who it was, and they obviously never mentioned it... Not that we mind at all.
Other than that, the only subscription I get anymore is the Insider. Meanwhile, my intellectual college history instructor wife gets a whole ****load of them, including National Geographic, Smithsonian, Archaelogy, and about 7 others. She reads entirely too much... Ugh. :P
-
I subscribe to:
Maxim
Stuff
FHM
Golf
Boston Globe (not a magazine but worth mentioning)
And buy every month:
Playboy
Wizard
I let me subscriptions run out on Maxim, FHM and Stuff. I still get Golf, but only because I signed up for a 3 year deal. I'm going to let that one expire too. I do subscribe to Playboy now instead of buying it on the newstands. Still buy Wizard at the comic book shop every month.

Probably a few you've never heard of, and unique to the list so far:
Dwell
Exhibitor (trade mag for trade shows)
ID (industrial design mag)
Metropolis
Architectural Record
Interiors
Communication Arts
Arbitare
I need a hobby magazine.
-
Probably a few you've never heard of, and unique to the list so far:
Architectural Record
Heard of this one. My wife studied architecture in school (not registered yet) and this mag was common around the dorms. It's one damn expensive magazine. Isn't a subscription like $100+ a year? (less if you're an AIA member?)
-
Architectural Record is down to $49.00 (https://enr.construction.com/resources/ENRStore/archsubscribe.asp).
They've got a nice site as well, check it out here (http://www.archrecord.com/).
I think a lot of the more expensive magazines from a few years ago have reduced subscription costs to keep/attract subscribers. I know ID was once up in the $70 or $90 range, and it's down to $30 per year (8 issues)... I also think they publish less frquently to reduce cost, like 8 instead of 12 issues per year.

I found a free subscription on the 'net for the following:
FHM
Stuff
Playboy
Free is GOOD! :)
Something for the guys to read while I am working on their cars. There are some interesting articles in some of these! ;)
Magazines I actually pay for:
Inside Kung Fu
Black Belt
SW Insider
SW Fact Files
Rolling Stone
Auto Restyling
-
SW Fact Files
Ouch. I assume that's not actually a direct subscription straight to your residence though, right Sharon? Are you subscribed through a European buddy, and they just forward it all to you? I would've liked to get all of those myself, but just didn't want to deal with the high cost and overseas hassles. Considered buying Adam's collection when he finally parted with it, but still refrained. Maybe some day...
-
Thankfully, a good trade friend through Fed has helped with Fact Files. They are a fantastic publication, well worth the trouble. Hard to fathom they were never done in the US? ::)
-
Premiere
The Onion
Maxim
JP- Jeep Magazine (bought a 5-year subscription and it hasn't yet run out ::) )
I buy Star Wars Insider at the newsstand since I don't trust the Fan Club after all the stories I've heard about delivery.
I also read Rolling Stone and Spin regularly, though they make me want to start my own music magazine with less crap and far more pretense.
-
Just ToyFare. I really get a kick out of it each month (and in fact my new issue arrived today - should be some good reading with that big SW feature!). ;)
My greatest disappointment is that they refuse to cover anything related to McFarlane. I don't actually collect them, but it's always nice to see what to expect on the shelves. I'm sure there's some sort of political reason for this... :(
-
The Shamus Clan (Wizard) and McFarlane had a falling-out years ago, and it continues to this day.
Quite sad, but not surprising at all given current journalism practices. Egos get in the way of EVERYTHING.
McFarlane doesn't need Wizard's press anyway. Their stuff sells OK as it is.
-
ToyFare
Consumer Reports
Playboy
I let the Insider take a flying leap after the doubling of membership cost. For as little as was actually worth reading in it, anyway, I can skim it at the book store. I do miss those, what were they called....HoloNews & Shadowfeed comics?
-
Boy's Life -- subscribed 1993 to 2002 or 3, but those last couple of years I was barely reading it. In fact the last year was in error and I was too lazy to cancel. Still not sure whether I paid or not.
Star Wars Galaxy Magazine -- used to buy but I never had a subscription.
I bought Star Wars Insider at the newsstands from 1997 to about 2000, had a subscription for a couple years, then let it lapse sometime in 2003 since it had turned into a piece of crap. (It used to be a for-the-fans-by-the-fans type publication, now that it's run from in-house it's just a corporate puff piece with news that premiered online 2 or 3 months earlier.) I did pick up a couple of issues when there was some feature I really wanted. Then early this year I renewed my Hyperspace and I had to get the Insider as well. ****tards. ::) I read it since I'm paying for it, and I admit it does have some good content, but overall the percentage of good stuff wouldn't be worth it.
Disney Adventures -- about 1994 to about 1999ish, read but never had a subscription.
My dad used to have subscriptions to Invention and Technology, Popular Science, and National Geographic so I read a lot of those.
Nowadays about the only one I read regularly is Newsweek since my dad has a subscription.
Others I purchase sporadically are Time and Rolling Stone.
-
I found a free subscription on the 'net for the following:
FHM
Stuff
Playboy
Free is GOOD! :)
Links are better. . . .
-
lets see here... Lego, Star Wars Insider, SI, Nintendo Power thats it.
-
We get Time and a mag called Budget Living that's not really what it sounds like. . .my wife gets it. . .it's like a monthly guide to Target swank and cheap chic design.
I may pick up a sub to Backpacker, as well. I used to not like it, but the newer format and region specific editing that their doing now makes it a lot better. Will pick up a few more issues before I decide.
-
Currently nothing!!! But in the past I've subscribed to many different mags, just a few:
Bantha Tracks
Barbie Magazine (Hey I was kid) ;D
Rolling Stone
Sports Illustrated
Becket Baseball Card Monthly
Wizard
Toy Fare
SW Insider
National Geographic
-
Thinking about getting a subscription to Super 7, lucky subscribers get to spend more money on exclusive junk! Yah!!
-
Currently I subscribe to:
- ToyFare
- Official X-Box Magazine
- Newsweek
- TIME
- Military Heritage
- Entertainment Weekly
Like others here, I buy Star Wars Insider if there's a good feature, but I haven't subscribed to it since the mid-90's.
