Title: Irony
Post by: Rob on July 31, 2004, 10:40 PM
I noticd this at CNN, and while I don't mean to make fun of the injured and potentially dying, I did find it ironic that a Casino deck collapsed - injuring, that's right - 52 people.

Fire chief: 52 injured in Montana Casino Deck Collapse (http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Central/07/31/deck.collapse/index.html)

Oh yah,sure- you’re so insensitive… I bet you’re the type of person that would wear a shirt that said, “Titanic Swimming Team, 1912.” … Just plain sick!

A shirt saying Titanic Swim Team 1912 would suggest that you're the type of person who might be described as a survivor.

You're no fun, really I was being facetious :-*... just some quote  said over at the abortion t-shirt thread, which I thought was funny.

I find it ironic that this occured at " Flathead Reservation" ;D *groan*  :P

I was just playing along with a far-fetched explanation for why that shirt is actually inspirational.   :)

I was going to buy that shirt, actually - but I passed it up for a 'Cape does not enable user to fly' shirt.

I've always wanted a shirt that says "carpe mañana". Especially understanding that "mañana" doesn't necessarily mean "tomorrow", but rather an abstract "some point in the future".

Saw this bit of irony on the local news but couldn't find an article to link.

A brand new, $63,000 car (Lexus?) was stolen while parked in front of the owner's house. The owner? The police chief of a sizeable city around here.

Like when...

...claimed to have stolen the Neighborhood Crime Watch sign "just to prove a point."

One of the greatest movie quotes of all time:
From Con-Air ~~~
(As the convicts of the hijacked transport plane celebrate to the music of "Sweet Home Alabama")::
"Define irony... it's a bunch of guys celebrating on an airplane to a song written by some guys that died in an airplane."

You know who's funny. . .  that Carrot Top.

Not really that ironic, much less "one of the greatest movie quotes of all time."

Here's something equally as ironic:

"One of the greatest songs of all time."

That's a little too ironic, Virex.

(And yeah I really do think...)

You think that's creepy?  "Jagged Little Pill" is on the jukebox 24/7 at the Virex household.

I celebrate the man's entire catalog.

Speaking of that song...  In 11th grade I gave a lecture on Irony to my English class.

I read the lyrics to that song, but in a serious tone - the kids were all laughing, the teacher thought it was brilliant - and I got an A.

Zod, if you'll be at C3, I'd love to see a re-enactment of that presentation. :-*

Scott, what the hell is going on around here? Where has the quality control gone?

First Colman tries to quote an post and blows it big time by clicking "modify" instead:

From JediMAC:

I just mentioned that, in case anyone cared enough to look it up and verify it...   :-*

Dammit.  I tried to quote your post here, and instead I modified it!  Stupid me...

And now you stick your comment inside the quote area itself. What's up with that?

I celebrate the man's entire catalog.

I thought Alanis was a...wait a second!

I can follow along, but I'm concerned for some of our newer members that have just made the transition from 'scum. They're accustomed to a much tighter ship and flawless posts from moderators, and their heads still hurt from the daily beatings given there.
