Got my 2003 Christmas Easter Single today, good stuff.  Its Cornell and Crew singing Reach Down from the Santa Barbara show last Fall and I Believe in Miracles (A Ramones cover) live.

Ed said a couple times on last summers tour they were thinking about touring a few cities this summer (like 15) but no word on that yet.

Haven't heard if they are recording yet either, usually they announce when they are back in the studio

Haven't received my single yet, but I hope it'll happen soon.

It is more like an Easter single, but free stuff kicks ass whenever it shows up.

Oh yeah, forgot about this.

Some dude has been dumping a bunch of PJ stuff at a local used CD joint. I've picked up about ten 2000 tour boots, import singles of Jeremy, Daughter, and Go, and the Last Kiss single. The store wants $10 each for the boots, but hey, these rock, and I didn't pick any up back when they were readily available. The singles are cheap, like $4-5 each.

Which is why I'm late paying DocPadawan and OCB. :o :-*

HMI, did you see that you could order past X-Mas singles through the TenClub (while supplies last)...I don't have the prices here in front of me but you may want to check that out instead of buying them from me... ;)

Got this info from my brother yesterday RE: Easter Eggs on the Live at the Garden DVD...

I was surfing the web last night and I came across this nugget.  You can see the Hunger Strike performance from Mexico City on the Live at the Garden DVD.

Put in the first disk.  You need to press "title" or "search" on your DVD remote.  On my player I pressed "search" and it brought up a screen that let me type in a number to jump to a scene.  I typed in 2 and it came up.  it's no Chris Cornell, but it rocks.

So I've been listening to The Lost Dogs* a little bit this week, and as I am, I'm thinking to myself, "Damn, the second half of 'Hard to Explain'--that's like the best stuff they've done since the old days".

And, on a lark, I checked out the liner notes, and wouldn't you know it--"Hard to Explain" was actually a Vs.-era song.

I just thought it was kind of ironically funny.

*=The "The" was intentional

Mike McCready appeared on Seattle radio station KISW for about 30 minutes. Some things worth mentioning:
Pearl Jam will be working on their next album at the end of the year.
Mad Season has 10 unreleased songs, sans lyrics, with which Mike has been trying to get something started with Mark Lanegan.
It appears that PJ will be doing a few gigs later this year, for political reasons, and in swing states.
Mike loves refried beans.

From the latest Rumor Pit

Quote
There are some really cool Pearl Jam happenings being worked on for this fall. There could be some shows - maybe acoustic, maybe not, a possible CD of some sort, and it's possible the band may head back to the studio towards the end of the year to begin work on their eighth album. As far as new music from side projects goes, some releases are possible but not definite. It's amazing what tea leaves can reveal. That was fun!

Wanted to add too that at the East Troy, WI show I went to last summer they said they were thinking of touring the summer/fall and it would be really small (10 shows I think) and East Troy would be one of the stops since they can draw from Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis and its a nice Amphitheatre.  I hope that pans out and they do do some acoustic shows, that first set from the Boston #3 show last year is amazing

There is nothing truly sweeter than scooping Pearson on his own band:

First-Ever Full Length Acoustic Performance

Seattle - Twelve years ago, Pearl Jam performed a rare acoustic show for MTV as part of the “Unplugged” series. Although the performance was never officially released, it continues to be one of the band's most bootlegged shows. On July 27th, 2004, Pearl Jam fans can satiate their acoustic appetites with the band's first ever full-length, mostly acoustic live show on a double disc CD entitled “Live at Benaroya Hall October 22, 2003” (distributed though BMG and Ten Club).

”Live at Benaroya Hall October 22, 2003” will feature the band's 2+ hour, sold-out performance on October 22, 2003 at the intimate 2,500-seat venue which marked the first live performance of Pearl Jam’s Golden Globe nominated song “Man of the Hour” as well as acoustic covers of Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War”, the Ramones’ “I Believe in Miracles” and Johnny Cash’s “25 Minutes to Go.” The full set list from the evening follows:

Pre-orders for the CD will be available at www.pearljam.com beginning June 21 for $13USD. Only CDs ordered through the Pearl Jam Ten Club will include a special poster featuring a photo of the band taken at the Benaroya show by renowned photographer Charles Peterson. A special limited edition vinyl box set will also be available through the band's website only and will also include the poster.

The Benaroya Hall show was a benefit for YouthCare, a non profit organization providing a range of comprehensive services for Seattle's homeless and at-risk youth for the past 30 years. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the CD will also benefit YouthCare. For more information on YouthCare, please visit: youthcare.org.

“This was one of those special shows, but because it was not part of the 2003 tour bootleg series and fans were asking for it, and because of the unique nature of the performance itself– it being the band's first full length acoustic show- it felt like a show we should give fans the chance to own,” said band manager Kelly Curtis.

Reviews from the Benaroya show were glowing:

“…the concert brought especially stirring performances from Vedder and guitarist McCready, who received several ovations.”

-Gene Stout, Seattle Post Intelligencer.

“With or without juice, Pearl Jam puts on an electrifying show.”

“The encore provided some of the finest moments of the evening, from a bone-tingling version of Victoria Williams “Crazy Mary,” … to the plaintive and plainly beautifully “Black.” For the latter, Vedder turned the mike toward the audience, and with some 2,500 people singing along, it was dramatic and moving.

-Tina Potterf, The Seattle Times

“Things didn't quite go as advertised: McCready and Ament plugged in for a few select numbers, and [Boom] Gaspar's organ was juiced throughout. That's not to mention the full-blown, electric delivery on the night's feel good finale, “Yellow Ledbetter.”

“[Vedder's] solo delivery of 'Dead Man' was one of the nights highlights, promptly topped, upon the band's return, with a chilling delivery of Dylan's war protest song [Masters of War].”

-Ernest Jasmine, Morning News Tribune

Not as big as a new PJ CD...ah this news sucks :-[

Former drummer Jack Irons has finally announced that his new, long awaited, solo album will be coming out in August. It is entitled Attention Dimension.

Even better, you may recognize some familiar names appearing in the credits. Ed Vedder lends his vocals to a cover of Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Flea, and Les Claypool also make musical contributions on the album.

Has this piqued your interest yet? Head on over to Jack's brand new website jackirons.com for more information!

i love the ames posters. i try to pick one up every time i go to a show. my favorite from last years tour was the one i picked up at nassau colliseum.

i have it framed on my wall, with my ticket stub (row 2 fan club seats) and a picture of me and my buddy that was posted on the synergy website, with eddie standing at the foot of the stage, the pic was taken from behind the stage, and you can see the two of us in front of ed.

another question.... why does this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=307&item=4018612688&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) digipack of the "10" cd go for so much money? i have one of these, but now i'm thinking about selling it, if it's getting $250+  :o

Jeff Ament Interview (http://fish.dangerisland.com/consume/news.lasso#071404)

I'm not a big Jeff guy at all, for the most part I think the songs he's written for the band suck and while he's a pretty decent musician he's not the world's greatest bassist or anything.  I sorta got the same feelings about Stone too but he in my eyes has written some pretty cool songs and I think has a lot more say on the musical direction of the band than I think I realize...anyway  I thought the above was a pretty cool interview and talks about how the band right now is at a huge crossroads with not having a record deal and not really sure where they want to go next

I'm excited though that they feel so creative and free from the pressure of being on a label.  I can admit I guess that since Yield the last 2 CD's have been really hit and miss with a lot of songs that seem to run together...almost as if they just sort of threw them out there.  Riot Act has some songs (Ghost, Cropduster,  Thumbing My Way, Get Right etc) that are just sort of blah.  Binaural has grown on me since it first came out (as did Yield which is no perhaps my favorite or second behind No Code) but there again there are some songs (God's Dice, Breakerfall, Sleight Of Hand) that are big duds IMO...it will be interesting if they try and recapture some of their musical roots and go with some soaring guitars that marked Ten and Vs...

I also love the bit of the club tour...and I would hope that my Fan Club # is low enough to get me in the door

It was selling for $35, if you were lucky enough to get into the site when this thing went on sale.

I thought it was pretty expensive, but there are four LPs there. If I had gotten into the site, I know I'd have ordered one, even at the $35 price.

Rock Royalty to Join Voices Against Bush With Fall Concerts

Musicians will perform in swing states to try to affect election.
Playing for a cause is a tradition, but injecting political views can
be risky

By Geoff Boucher, Times Staff Writer

Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, R.E.M., Pearl Jam and a deep roster of
other rock stars will unite for politically minded concerts this fall
that will give voice to dissatisfaction with the Bush administration.

The all-star rock shows, which are expected to begin in October and
target campaign swing states, are in the planning stage but were
confirmed by half a dozen music industry sources who spoke on
condition of anonymity.

Insiders disagree on the unifying rhythm of the celebrity coalition.
Some say it is the promise of the John F. Kerry candidacy, but at
least one emphasizes the fear of President Bush's reelection. "There
is a range of feeling about Kerry," the source said, "but a uniform
belief that Bush must go."

The tour turns up the volume of the rock scene's role in politics, but
it is not the only example of an apparent surge of commentary among
artists. Rockers seem virtually unanimous in their anti-Bush stance,
just as country music has seen a wave of passionate patriotism and
support for the president, exemplified by the songs of Toby Keith.

MTV has been showing a video by the British dance-pop outfit Faithless
that features a teen shipped off to Iraq only to return home wounded
and disillusioned. Representing a different generation, Tom Waits and
John Fogerty have recorded songs about Iraq. For Waits, it's the first
political song of his four-decade career; for Fogerty, it's a return
to his Vietnam-era songs such as "Who'll Stop the Rain."

Elsewhere, rapper Sean "P. Diddy" Combs is steering a new voter
registration drive, and the usually bratty punk-pop band Green Day has
said its next album will be a political concept piece. Steve Earle has
a new album laced with songs about Iraq and Bush and even a mocking
valentine to national security advisor Condoleezza Rice. Blues player
Keb Mo has an upcoming album of peace songs, including John Lennon's
"Imagine" and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth."

Introducing political commentary into music is sometimes a risky
prospect — even if it's just a passing reference.

Last weekend, Linda Ronstadt was booed in Las Vegas for praising a
Bush nemesis, filmmaker Michael Moore, while Ozzy Osbourne relented to
critics and removed concert imagery that showed Bush and Hitler
together on an overhead screen.

The countercultural mind-set and recklessness once at the core of rock
music now seem relegated to the distant past, Elton John told
Interview magazine. He said that protest had often given way to strict
careerism in this corporate age.

"There's an atmosphere of fear in America right now, and that is
deadly," John said. "Everyone is too career-conscious. They're all too
scared…. Things have changed."

Tom Morello, guitarist with Rage Against the Machine and once a
staffer to the late California Democratic Sen. Alan Cranston, is a
veteran of politics-meets-rock. "I'm not surprised you're seeing this
music being made, and I'm not surprised it's connecting with an
audience," he said. "It's not just people who write songs —
carpenters, teachers, everyone is ready for a regime change."

Morello was cited by some sources as a probable participant in the
concert series, but he declined to confirm plans for the shows.

No album or song is likely to capture as much media attention as the
concerts involving Springsteen in swing states, which are expected to
take place in arenas.

Organizers have been tight-lipped since discussions of the idea caught
the ears of some of the stars in April. At the end of last week, the
formal announcement was scheduled for Aug. 4 in New York.

Other artists expected to join the lineup include Earle, the Dave
Matthews Band, the Dixie Chicks, Bright Eyes, Ani DiFranco, Death Cab
for Cutie and International Noise Conspiracy. There also are reports
that Bob Dylan and James Taylor may be part of the bill.

The shows reportedly will benefit several organizations, chief among
them MoveOn.org, the advocacy group that champions a liberal agenda
through Web-based grass-roots efforts.

All-star concerts to raise money for philanthropic or political causes
have become a tradition. The template goes back to 1971 with George
Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh and the no-nukes shows of 1980 that
featured Springsteen and such artists as Taylor, Jackson Browne and
Carly Simon.

Organizers have tried to keep the fall shows under wraps to spotlight
the official announcement. Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, declined
to discuss the shows, and Young's manager, Elliot Roberts, did not
return calls. When Bertis Downs, who manages R.E.M., was asked about
the band's fundraising plans, he replied, "I can't talk about that."

R.E.M became one of the first bands to criticize the war in Iraq when
it posted a song on its website in March 2003, the month of the
invasion.

Others now joining the critical chorus include the Beastie Boys, a
Perfect Circle and Jay Farrar, the alternative-country rocker who said
Saturday that he resisted political messages in the past because the
topic didn't fit his sensibilities.

But now, he said, he would feel derelict if he didn't speak up. "And
there will be a lot more artists doing the same thing if Bush gets
reelected."

--------------------

Sweet. This tour is supposed to hit the swing states, which includes mine (Iowa).

I'd have a ******* joygasm if PJ, DMB, and Neil Young played a show anywhere in the state. Hee hee. ;D

I'd go to either place for a show like this, though. Hopefully the 10c will have tickets. :)

Not sure how that would work for a festival like that...between the 10c and the DMB Fan Club it might sell out East Troy by themselves

Some brief words on the afore-mentioned benefit concerts:

Would absolutely love to cross Neil and R.E.M. off my "must-see" list, so when it comes to Oklahoma (yeah, right), count me in.  But I'll be in either the beer or Port-O-Potty lines for the entire Dave Matthews Band set, thankyouverymuch.

As for the Beranoya set--I've listened to it a few times through now, and although I know that you die-hards are bored with it already, it's still new to me.  So, some impressions:

Highlights:

"Man of the Hour", "I Believe in Miracles", "Masters of War", the audience participation bit in "Black", and Cash's "25 Minutes to Go".

Lowlights:

"Low Light".

(Groan)

"Yellow Ledbetter" is starting to sound the same to me, and the whole tagging-the-end-of-"Daughter" is starting to get a little stale, too.

Overall, though, great show.  Due to the (mostly) acoustic guitars, and the fact that they changed up their set quite a bit compared to a lot of the 2003 shows, I really like this album.  Lots of stuff they didn't typically play.

Question:  Where's Beranoya?  The packaging really doesn't say, and I'm too lazy to look it up.  Is it somewhere in the U.S., or is it in another country?

Another question:  Is the Showbox DVD still available at their site, or is this gonna be an eBay purchase?

Its in Seattle, I really like them adding Fatal to the play list, I love that song.  Ledbetter got a little overplayed last tour methinks, not as cool as it once was but it still can send shivers down my spine when I hear the crowd roar in approval.  I prefer the RITFW ending these days

Yeah, with all that's going on in the world, RITFW carries a lot more weight than Ledbetter does.

They aired the April 1994 Saturday Night Live with the boys last night on NBC; this was the show done just weeks after Kurt blew his head off, and PJ was kind of right on the top of their wave of success.  They did three songs ("Not for You"--months before Vitalogy, "Daughter", and "Rearviewmirror")--and I don't know if SNL ever let a band do three songs, before or since that show.  Dave was still drumming.

Anyway, I remember watching that show live when it aired, waiting for Ed to make some sort of tribute to Kurt, which came at the very end of the show with the "K" on the t-shirt, underneath the jacket.

Anyone else see that show, back in the day?

And is it just me, or is Jeff Ament like the most annoying mofo that ever came out of Seattle?  Can't stand that guy.

interesting. they showed some episode from christmas time with pink as musical guest here last night.

anyway, yeah, i remember seeing that episode back in the day when it was on, and thought "wow, they are doing a third song". they were also the first band (i think) to do 3 songs on the david letterman show as well.

Yeah, I was a little unclear about that.  Sorry.  The Sharpton/Pink episode played here, too, in the regular SNL time slot, but NBC now has a deal where they play a "classic" SNL immediately following the "current" episode.  The Estevez/PJ episode played here right after the one you saw.

Yeah, I think I remember that, too.  Letterman's always liked PJ (or at least has acted like he has), so maybe that explained their appearance.

More on the Elect Kerry benefit shows:

Bands Gather to Stump Against Bush (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040804/ap_en_mu/musicians_vote_for_change_2)

NEW YORK - In an unprecedented series of concerts in nine swing states, more than 20 musical acts — including Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and the Dixie Chicks — will perform fund-raising concerts one month before the Nov. 2 election in an effort to unseat President Bush.

The shows, which will begin Oct. 1 in Pennsylvania, will take an unusual approach: as many as six concerts on a single day in cities across the states expected to decide the November presidential race. Other stops on the tour are North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and the key state in 2000, Florida.

"We're trying to put forward a group of progressive ideals and change the administration in the White House," Springsteen told The Associated Press in the most overtly political statements of his 30-year career. "That's the success or failure, very clear cut and very simple."

The artists of different generations and genres will tour under the name "Vote For Change," with shows Oct. 1-8. But the money generated will go to America Coming Together, which promises on its Web site to "derail the right-wing Republican agenda by defeating George W. Bush."

The anticipated millions of dollars will be spent in the swing states before the presidential election, said ACT president Ellen Malcolm.

The shows will be presented by MoveOn Pac, the electoral arm of the liberal interest group MoveOn.org, with an official announcement expected Wednesday.

There was no immediate word on prices for tickets, which were going on sale for all shows Aug. 21. The shows will pair artists, such as Springsteen and REM or the Dixie Chicks and James Taylor. There will be 34 shows in 28 cities.

Natalie Maines, of the Dixie Chicks, who memorably told a London audience last year that she was ashamed to share her home state of Texas with Bush, echoed a Springsteen comment that this was the most important election of their lives.

"A change is in order," Maines said. "There's never been a political climate like this, which is so the polar opposite of me as a person and what I believe in."

The idea was hatched by several of the acts' managers, and quickly expanded. "Once we started talking to each other, ideas started percolating and other artists started reaching out to us," said Jon Landau, Springsteen's manager.

Other artists participating in the shows include hip-hoppers Jurassic 5, John Mellencamp, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Babyface, Bright Eyes and the Dave Matthews Band. Most have a history of social activism, from Browne's anti-nuclear concerts to Mellencamp's Farm Aid shows. Pearl Jam front man Vedder was a Ralph Nader backer in 2000.

"At some point, you can't sit still," said Vedder, a harsh critic of the Iraq war. "You can't spend your life, when people are getting killed, without asking serious questions about why."

Springsteen said he didn't fear any backlash over going public with his personal politics.

"It's a pretty clear-cut decision in November," said Springsteen, whose songs have provided a backdrop for some Kerry events. "We're chipping in our two cents. That's all we're trying to do."

Whew, thought I was being scooped again...

August 4, 2004 - Pearl Jam on the Vote for Change tour!

Pearl Jam is excited to announce the Vote for Change concert tour. Vote for Change is a loose coalition of musicians brought together by a single idea—the need to make a change in the direction of our country. We share a belief that this is the most important election of our lifetime. We are fighting for a government that is open, rational, just and progressive.
"The upcoming election provides everyone an opportunity to change the direction our country is headed and to elect a government that is just, rational and respectful of the views and rights of the people it serves. This coalition of artists wants to be a part of that change." said Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam.

Artists participating in Vote for Change have merged their energies and talents to focus on states that are expected to have the closest race in the presidential election this fall. This unprecedented effort will include approximately 34 shows in 28 cities in 9 battleground states over the course of a week.

These concerts will feature Babyface, Jackson Browne, Bright Eyes, Dave Matthews Band, Death Cab for Cutie, the Dixie Chicks, John Fogerty, Ben Harper, Jurassic 5, Keb' Mo', John Mellencamp, My Morning Jacket, Pearl Jam, Bonnie Raitt, R.E.M., James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and more. These and other artists will appear on separate bills on the same night in selected cities around several battleground states.

Vote for Change artists hope to accomplish a single goal through the tour: to get people to the polls on November 2nd to vote for a change.

The Vote for Change tour will be presented by MoveOn PAC, with all concert proceeds benefiting the work of America Coming Together (ACT).

TICKETS:

Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie will be performing the following Vote for Change shows:

Oct. 1 Reading, PA - Sovereign Center
Oct. 2 Toledo, OH - Sports Arena
Oct. 3 Grand Rapids, MI - Delta Plex
Oct. 5 St. Louis, MO - Fox Theater
Oct. 6 Asheville, NC - Civic Center

"This is the fourth presidential election which Pearl Jam has engaged in as a band, and we feel it's the most important one of our lifetime. We believe in the power of the first amendment, and have always exercised our right to free speech in every aspect of our lives and music. This year there is no more powerful way for all Americans to exercise that right than by voting. Given the extreme political climate of a country at war, we are proud to stand among the many artists involved in this tour and to encourage Americans not only to vote for a president this November 2nd, but to vote for the change they wish to see in the world." - Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam

Be sure to register to vote early and make your Vote for Change!

Plans are already in motion, drive down Tuesday and come back Wednesday, 2 days off...not too shabby

The question is whether the 10c will get tickets...and if so, how hard are they gonna be to get?

Or I could fly to Toledo, OH and stay at Chris Berry's place

For as unique as this thing is, I can't help but think about how huge one big show, with all of the artists would be.

Wouldn't that be great?  Do it in one of the swing states on one of the weekends right before the election?  That'd be some good stuff.

Not related to Pearl Jam directly, but related to the Vote For Change tour.
It's an op-ed piece written by Bruce Springsteen for the NY Times:

August 5, 2004

Chords for Change

By BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

A nation's artists and musicians have a particular place in its social and political life. Over the years I've tried to think long and hard about what it means to be American: about the distinctive identity and position we have in the world, and how that position is best carried. I've tried to write songs that speak to our pride and criticize our failures.

These questions are at the heart of this election: who we are, what we stand for, why we fight. Personally, for the last 25 years I have always stayed one step away from partisan politics. Instead, I have been partisan about a set of ideals: economic justice, civil rights, a humane foreign policy, freedom and a decent life for all of our citizens. This year, however, for many of us the stakes have risen too high to sit this election out.

Through my work, I've always tried to ask hard questions. Why is it that the wealthiest nation in the world finds it so hard to keep its promise and faith with its weakest citizens? Why do we continue to find it so difficult to see beyond the veil of race? How do we conduct ourselves during difficult times without killing the things we hold dear? Why does the fulfillment of our promise as a people always seem to be just within grasp yet forever out of reach?

I don't think John Kerry and John Edwards have all the answers. I do believe they are sincerely interested in asking the right questions and working their way toward honest solutions. They understand that we need an administration that places a priority on fairness, curiosity, openness, humility, concern for all America's citizens, courage and faith.

People have different notions of these values, and they live them out in different ways. I've tried to sing about some of them in my songs. But I have my own ideas about what they mean, too. That is why I plan to join with many fellow artists, including the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, R.E.M., the Dixie Chicks, Jurassic 5, James Taylor and Jackson Browne, in touring the country this October. We will be performing under the umbrella of a new group called Vote for Change. Our goal is to change the direction of the government and change the current administration come November.

Like many others, in the aftermath of 9/11, I felt the country's unity. I don't remember anything quite like it. I supported the decision to enter Afghanistan and I hoped that the seriousness of the times would bring forth strength, humility and wisdom in our leaders. Instead, we dived headlong into an unnecessary war in Iraq, offering up the lives of our young men and women under circumstances that are now discredited. We ran record deficits, while simultaneously cutting and squeezing services like afterschool programs. We granted tax cuts to the richest 1 percent (corporate bigwigs, well-to-do guitar players), increasing the division of wealth that threatens to destroy our social contract with one another and render mute the promise of "one nation indivisible."

It is through the truthful exercising of the best of human qualities - respect for others, honesty about ourselves, faith in our ideals - that we come to life in God's eyes. It is how our soul, as a nation and as individuals, is revealed. Our American government has strayed too far from American values. It is time to move forward. The country we carry in our hearts is waiting.

From Billboard.com--

Pearl Jam Eyeing Winter Studio Return

After Pearl Jam reassembles in early October for its first live shows in nearly a year, the Seattle rock outfit will get busy on its eighth studio album. "I think they're planning on going back to the studio this winter," manager Kelly Curtis tells Billboard.com. As for a possible release date, Curtis would only say, "When they're done, they give it to us and we go."

The group will play six shows in October as part of the Vote for Change tour, which Curtis helped organize with the managers of Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, R.E.M. and the Dixie Chicks. The trek kicks off Oct. 1 in Pennsylvania and will proceed to eight additional presidential election battleground states.

"We were getting bombarded with requests to play around the election, and I thought I would seek out some advice," he says of the tour's genesis. "So I called [Sprinsgteen manager] Jon Landau to see how they were dealing with all the stuff coming in. The more we talked, the more we thought it would be a good idea to get a bunch of managers together and try to get educated."

"What came out of there was five managers connecting and deciding that we should try to pull off some kind of swing-state tour. Then, it became a logistical nightmare," he adds with a laugh. Curtis declined to comment on the possibility of additional acts being added to the tour or rumors of an Oct. 10 all-star finale show in Florida.

As for Pearl Jam's specific concerts with Death Cab For Cutie, on-sale dates are still being finalized. Curtis doesn't expect the shows to be made available as part of Pearl Jam's ongoing authorized bootleg series, because "it might be a little shorter set from Pearl Jam [than usual], or a lot of collaboration. But then you're dealing with other people's record companies and it gets too complicated."

Curtis hinted at additional Pearl Jam shows in 2004 but declined to reveal specifics. Asked if the band would unveil some new material at Vote for Change appearances, he said, "I'm sure that will be the case."

Having left longtime label Epic last year, Pearl Jam crowned its free agent status with the July 27 release of "Live at Benaroya Hall" via its own Ten Club fan organization and a distribution deal with BMG. The set debuted last week at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Internet Album Sales tally and No. 18 on The Billboard 200 thanks to first-week sales of 52,000 copies.

"This was a perfect record to try something new with some different folks," he says. "Luckily, we don't have to decide [about potentially signing with a new label] right now. We want to do as much as we can ourselves, and for what we can't do or don't want to do, we'll rely on someone else."

okay, my buddy got an email from the 10 club yesterday about these a.c.t. shows. seems like there's not going to be any "preferred" seating for 10c members, which kinda sucks, since it's not a pearl jam tour, just some benefits for a.c.t.

but, since he is a member of the 10c he's gonna be able to get in on a pre-sale for tickets, so we should still end up with some good seats. although nothing can compare to last years 6th row, 13th row, and 2nd row shows  :( - but nothing ever will i guess.

Im resorting to ebay for some I missed since there are only a handful out on the markest still and I have them all.  Thanks.

Hey Jim!

Get this! You all know by now about Pearl Jam's mini-tour in October 2004. Well, it has just been confirmed that Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie will be playing a special show at the Fleet Center in Boston, MA on Tuesday, September 28th at 7:30!!!

"It's been awhile since we've played together and we were all excited about coming together and playing a special show somewhere before we kick off the Vote for Change tour. Boston is one of our all-time favorite cities to play so it seemed like the perfect place to do that," says Mike McCready of Pearl Jam on why the band decided to play Boston.

The 10C and Ticketmaster are having a fan club only pre-sale on Wednesday and Thursday, August 25th and 26th, from 12-6 pm Eastern time. Your special Ticketmaster access code for this show is the same code you received for the Vote for Change presale. Please note, your ticket access code is viewable in your member profile on pearljam.com once you have logged in. This password may only be used once for this ticket presale, so do not share it with anyone.

if i'm not mistaken, the only thing they base senority on is the actual seating, not the chance to buy the tickets. but my buddy is usually up early in the morning, and he's such a huge pj fan, i know he won't miss out on his chance.

the tickets for the moveon.org shows aren't even being sold through the fan club tho, so that kinda sucks. they are just letting fan club members have a "pre-sale" on the day before they officially go on sale to the general public.  :-\

so that means we'll most likely be sitting in the nose bleed seats for that one... oh well, better than nothing.

the show i'm really psyched for is that boston show. they say they want to sell the entire arena out to fan club members, so they upped the allotment of tickets from the usual 2 to 4 per member. i'm hoping they pull out all the stops, and just play all kinds of **** they don't play on a regular basis. like breath. i've only seen them play breath 1 time, in all the shows i've gone to. depending on where we are sitting, i'm gonna try and sneak a camera in with me. i kick myself for not doing it earlier this year, when we had such great seats, i could have gotten some ass kicking pics  :(

And what I'm saying is that there will be a ton of 10c members from all over the country wanting to  go to this show too, there are a lot of 10c members out there ;)...its going to go quick.

Sort of like the Madison Square Garden tickets did last year, everyone thought that was going to be the last show of the tour and a repeat of the second Seattle show of 2000.

true. pj fans are nuts like that, flying in from across the country, not to mentino other parts of the world. we actually met a few people who flew in from austrailia when we went to that msg show - not just because it was the last night of the tour (originally), but partly. and then they added a few others, and we ended up at pnc arts center as well (which i think ended up being the last u.s. date on the tour before mexico).

Just scored my ticket for St. Louis. Last lower balcony seat available. Yay!!!!

It'll be weird going to this thing alone, though. Couldn't find anyone else who could afford tickets.

Oh well. I didn't see anything on the site prohibiting digital cameras, so I think I'll take it along. :)

Oh my, what a nice place.

I might meet some screwheads from RM there, so I won't feel so left out.

I'll have to pick up some Death Cab for Cutie CDs so I don't sit there while they're playing drinking beer while having no idea what any of their songs are.

got our tix for 9/28 yesterday, so we're all set to go! the only thing that sucks is that now i need to see if i can talk my friend into going out to boston on 9/25 so we can catch a sox/yanks game, since they will be there that weekend. although i'd probably get killed if i went to fenway with my yankees jersey and hat on  :D

it'll be dangerous enough just wearing it to the concert... especially if the yanks sweep that weekend series ;D

Bad news.

I won't be able to go to the St. Louis show.

The good news for somebody else:
My ticket is for sale. The face value is $60, but since it's balcony and I need to get rid of it, I'll sell it for $55.

Just drop me a PM if ye want it. I will also accept reasonable offers for it. :)

Edit: I suppose you'll want to know the specifics on where the seat is:
Section: BA01
Row: D
Seat: 49

From TSIS

According to the Late Show's email newsletter, Pearl Jam will be appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman "in the coming weeks". No date was announced, but based on the band's itinerary, September 30th would be the most fitting date for a taping.

In vastly different news, Pearl Jam invited 12 members of a High School Choir in South Africa up to Seattle to accompany them. There is a possibility of some studio time, and maybe a subsequent release of that material.

The group has learned three songs so far - Better Man, Love Boat Captain, and The Long Road. It's quite an interesting story; read the full details at http://sundaytimes.co.za

Moore Compiles Music That Inspired 'Fahrenheit'

On the same day Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is released on DVD and its soundtrack issued on CD, Sony BMG Music's Epic Soundtrax will release a compilation of songs the documentary director says triggered his muse. Due Oct. 5, "Songs and Artists That Inspired Fahrenheit 9/11" boasts cuts by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, System Of A Down, Pearl Jam and the Clash, among others.

"When I make a film, I take my portable CD case and place in it a series of albums which contain music that reflects the mood I am in and the reasons that are motivating me to make this film," Moore explains. "The songs on this CD are either the actual songs that made up our 'on-the-scene' soundtrack, or they are by artists whom I have listened to over the years and have given me much inspiration."

In addition to a dozen anthems, most of which are well known, are two new songs, including the first music from former Rage Against The Machine singer Zack De la Rocha in five years. Produced by Trent Reznor, De la Rocha's "We Want It All" is the first single from the compilation.

"Seeing 'Fahrenheit 9/11' was like hearing Dylan's 'Masters of War' or Public Enemy's 'Bring the Noise' for the first time," De la Rocha says. "It wasn't just about melody, great production or hard rhymes -- it was the weight of the argument and what the piece forced me to consider."

Coincidentally, the set's other new track comes from De la Rocha's former Rage bandmate, Tom Morello. Now a member of Audioslave, the guitarist appears here as the Nightwatchman, the name given to his acoustic singer/songwriter solo project.

Moore describes Morello's "No One Left" as "both beautiful and haunting -- and painfully true. Death in New York, death in Baghdad, it is all to be mourned. Tom sings, the guitar is acoustic, and I am compelled to play this song over and over."

The compilation opens with "I Am a Patriot (And the River Opens for the Righteous)," a Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul song that was frequently performed by Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder during appearances supporting Ralph Nader's 2000 Green Party Presidential bid.

Dylan contributes "With God on Our Side," while Springsteen offers a live version of "Chimes of Freedom" and Pearl Jam chip in with a concert cover of "Masters of War."

Moore says he found strength in the plight of the Dixie Chicks, who became pariahs in the country music community after disavowing a Texas connection to President Bush during a London concert. "Their courage -- and the abuse and censorship that they had to sustain and overcome -- did much to get me through this past year," he says.

The compilation features the Chicks' Vietnam War tale "Travelin' Soldier," a No. 1 title on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in March 2003.

Sony BMG Music plans to donate half the net profits from U.S. sales of the disc to the Fallen Patriot Fund. Selected by Moore, the charity was established to help families of U.S. military personnel who have been killed or seriously injured in the current Iraqi conflict.

Here is the full "Songs and Artists That Inspired Fahrenheit 9/11" track list:

"I Am a Patriot (And the River Opens for the Righteous)," Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul
"Chimes of Freedom" (live)," Bruce Springsteen
"With God on Our Side," Bob Dylan
"We Want It All," Zack De la Rocha
"Boom!" System Of A Down
"No One Left," the Nightwatchman
"Masters of War" (live), Pearl Jam
"Travelin' Soldier," Dixie Chicks
"Fortunate Son" (live), John Fogerty
"Know Your Rights," the Clash
"The Revolution Starts Now," Steve Earle
"Where Is the Love?," Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake
"Good Night, New York" (live)," Nanci Griffith
"Hallelujah," Jeff Buckley

Not true. I have like 3 - 4 songs that are outtakes from Binaural I think? They were not included on Lost Dogs... I've also got a few others, but don't know what album(s) they were from.

edit - okay, so two of them made it onto Lost Dogs - Education and Fatal - but there's still Letter to the Dead, as well as the Birdman Sessions that haven't been put out yet

Yeah I have a couple too, one that was leaked last spring that is not on Lost Dogs, just odd they wouldn't include a couple to intice more people to buy it, also cool they are doing 2 CD's and I really can't argue with most of the choices (if its legit)

Its also odd that Who You Are is on there and they haven't played it in like 6 years, one of my favorite tracks too so that's cool.  Ten, Vs and Vitalogy heavy
Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: jokabofe on September 24, 2004, 11:58 AM
Yeah, with no new material, I won't be buying it. There's really no need... they could have at least threw in a new song or two, like you said, just to make people like me pick it up. Hell, one new song - or even Letters to the Dead, or one of the other outtakes that I don't have on CD yet - would have been enough to make me buy it.

ed pre-set: Don't Be Shy, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away

encore 1 (acoustic): Lowlight, Masters of War, Small Town, Last Kiss, Crazy Mary
encore 2: Love Boat Captain, Better Man, Bleed for Me (The Dead Kennedys), Blood

Holy Crapoli!  Dave saw two killer shows it looks like, Jim did you wind up getting tickets?

Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: jokabofe on September 30, 2004, 03:54 PM
2 killer shows is damn right. I just wish we had better seats, but I guess I shouldn't complain since at least I was able to check them out at all. Hearing "Alone" was awesome, it's one of my all time favorite tracks and one they never play live. Same thing for "I've got a feeling" - first time seeing that one played live (they played Alone once at a show in NYC I was at, but that was the only other time I've seen it performed in person). I was shocked when they opened night 2 with "Go" since they always start out with a nice mellow number before jacking the adrenaline up.

They also brought out the guy who Down was written for/about on night 1 just before playing it (but I can't remember his name).  The fact that they only repeated  2 songs from night 1 on night 2 rocked so hard, but there were a few tracks I really wanted to hear that weren't played. Wash, Smile, Breath, State of Love and Trust - I know they are all among the "rare" live tracks, but it would have been nice if they would have pulled them all out on night 1, considering that every ticket in the place was purchased by a fan club member. I also really wanted to hear them do "You Are" off the new record which is quickly becoming my favorite track to hear live. It's an awesome song on the record, but it rocks so much harder live.

All in all two great shows in two great days. Well, the days weren't great, actually, since it was raining non-stop. But at least we got to Boston in 3 hours, and it wasn't raining that hard. I'd definitely do it again if they did something similar later on, but if they tour next year (or the year after, or whenever) I'll probably just stay local and see them instead of driving so far. Last year I went to see them like 5 times, all at fairly local places (under an hour commute) and I also skipped like two shows, so that's enough really. But since they weren't playing anywhere else near here, we had to go.

Now I need to go lay down and rest for a while.

Just got back from St. Louis....

HOLY ****, THEY PLAYED STATE OF LOVE AND TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stood in line 43 minutes for a t-shirt, 5 minutes for a beer, so I missed 3/4 of the Gob Roberts set and 1/2 of Death Cab For Cutie, but that wasn't why I was there.

PJ kicked ass. Corduroy, Immortality, In My Tree, Rearviewmirror, Off He Goes, and, of course, State of Love and Trust-- all the songs I wanted to hear, except maybe Masters of War, but I can forgive 'em for that one. Tim Robbins got onstage for a little tomfoolery that didn't end soon enough.
The only real quarrel I have is the lack of people working at the merch stand. Five people to get stuff for half (or more) of the 4,500 people there.

Sony will release a 2CD set of Pearl Jam's Greatest Hits on November 16th (Vinyl on November 30th). The tracklisting below includes songs from all of their studio albums thus far, as well as some soundtrack/single material.

Except for Alive, Once, and Black, all the tracks are album versions. These three tracks are new remixes, put together by Brendan O'Brien this year.

I was wondering if a vinyl would be issued. Yay!!

I thought I'd share a link to a site my friend showed me tonight. It's a Grateful Dead site which has live recordings of Dead concerts. But they also have a miscellaneous section which includes about a dozen Pearl Jam shows. I was happy to find they have a couple of shows which I tapes from the radio back in the day and had intended to digitally preserve. Enjoy!

It will tide me over until my single gets here. Looking more like a Valentine's Day single.

I did hear a crappy mp3 of one of the songs on it. It's a Stevie Wonder song that was made popular by the Jackson 5. It's really like nothing I've ever heard from the band before. I'd tell you all the title, but that would be a spoiler. :)

Pearl Jam Find Their Edge

Rockers wrapping new album, readying tour

Pearl Jam are almost finished with their follow-up to 2002's Riot Act.
The band plans to spend the next three weeks in the studio recording
vocals and mixing. If all goes according to plan, the yet-to-be-titled
disc could be released as early as May.

"There's a lot more up-tempo stuff," says drummer Matt Cameron. "It's
a lot more rockin' than our last one." Song titles like "Severed
Hand," "Worldwide Suicide" and "2x4" seem to reflect that harder edge.
Though the track listing has not been finalized, other candidates
 include "Marker" and "Cold Concession."

Cameron, who teamed with guitarist Mike McCready on the track
"Unemployable," characterizes the sessions as more collaborative. "We
reworked everything together in the studio," he says. "It's a really
healthy environment -- everyone really just wants to dig in and make
the songs as good as they can be."

Pearl Jam hope to support the new record with a summer tour.

Hm. Last I read, they were 'taking it easy' and just letting it flow instead of rushing things. Summer seems too early.

Did you get your single yet, Scott? I haven't. *worries, emails 10c*

Ah, Vs.

That one has my favorite PJ song of all time-- "rearviewmirror".
That is also my favorite PJ song of all time.  One my nicest PJ memories is them standing in a circle during the Ice Bowl concert to close the show.  Steam from their sweat is pouring up and the strobes are flashing furiously.  The were just playing as fast as they could, it was great :)

Here's a question for our resident PJ experts.  I heard Pearl Jam do a cover of The Beatles song "I've got a feeling".  Reason being that I'm making a mix CD of various artists covering The Beatles, and I'd like to include this on the mix.  So the question is, where can I find Pearl Jam's version of "I've got a feeling" on CD?  I think I might have it, but when you own in excess of 1,500 CDs, it's a little bit of a hassle to start searching through everything.

I believe it was on the Foreign (Japanese?) version of Ten as a bonus track.
Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: Nicklab on April 10, 2005, 11:08 AM
Gotcha.  I just realized where I have it.  It's not the Japanese version of TEN, but from a live bootleg.  Not sure if I want to buy an import version of an album I already own just to get the studio version of one song.  Drat!
Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: jokabofe on April 10, 2005, 06:21 PM
Actually, I've got that as  bonus track on the digipack import version of Ten, but I think it was also on the cd single for one of the tracks as well. You might be able to track down the single for a little cheaper Nick. Or you might be able to just download it from somewhere for free.
Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: Nicklab on April 10, 2005, 07:57 PM
So far I've only found it on a Japanese version of Ten, and it's not even properly credited.  It's called "Master/slave".  I hope I can find it on a single instead.  $45 is kind of steep for an album I already own.
Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: Scott on April 10, 2005, 09:27 PM
Master/Slave is the percussion stuff at the beginning and end of Ten, on the Japanese version its a separate track after I Got A Feeling

Okay.  I searched through all of my CD singles as well as looking at every single that was listed on Amazon.  No dice with regard to "I got a feeling".  Oh, the dread of buying an import for one song.

Canadian Tour!

Brent...is your place available for up to 6 people on September 8th?

In anticipation of their upcoming studio release, Pearl Jam along with the Ten
Club are proud to announce a 15 city tour of the great country of Canada. The
tour opens on September 2nd in Vancouver, B.C. and ends up in St. John’s
Newfoundland on September 24th.  The Ten Club pre-sale starts today April 25,
2005 and ends Monday, May 9, 2005, at 5:00 pm pacific time.

•        Ten Club tickets will be sold ONLY on-line and ONLY at pearljam.com.  There
will be no mail order for Ten Club tickets on this tour.
•        The base ticket price for the tour is $59.50 CDN ($52.06 USD) per ticket plus
applicable fees. Ten Club tickets available in pairs only.  No single ticket
sales. There will be a $3.50 USD service charge per ticket plus a $1.53 USD bank
card processing fee per ticket.
•        Visa and Mastercard are the only acceptable forms of payment.
•        You can buy only one pair of tickets per show but there is no limit to the
number of shows fan club members can attend.
•        Tickets will be allocated using seniority in the Ten Club.
•        An email confirmation will arrive in advance of the public on-sale.
•        Ten Club tickets are for members only.  Members must show photo I.D, at venue
will call window to pick up tickets on day-of-show only.
•        Re-selling Ten Club tickets will result in revocation of fan club privileges.

Here’s how the system will work:

Go to http://secure.pearljam.com/ and log in to your Ten Club account.  If you
are not an up-to-date member you will not be eligible for Canadian tickets.  You
cannot purchase a membership and be eligible for tickets at this time.  However,
purchasing a membership now will allow you to purchase tickets to future dates
AFTER the Canadian tour.  Once we process ALL of the ticket orders, we will
prioritize the seats according to your member number.  Tickets will be available
for you at the Ten Club ticket window prior to each show.  You MUST show your
photo I.D. to get your tickets.

Please note: besides this being the first time we’ve offered Ten Club tickets
on-line, there are two more major changes in progress.

1.        Tickets will not be distributed in “blocks”.  We listened to your feedback
and took note of the problems with the block system.  On this tour we will
secure all of the tickets prior to the shows and allocate them ahead of time.
So your tickets will be in an envelope with your name on it at the Ten Club
ticket window before the show.  So showing up early will not get you a better
seat.  This time we mean it.

2.        We will use some of the seats in the “wings” for the Ten Club.  There are
really great seats that are located just off the floor, but very close to the
sides of the stage.  We haven’t used these seats for Ten Club members on
previous tours, but we think that those seats are far superior to those that are
towards the back of the floor and we think that those seats should be filled
with Ten Club members.  It’s not going to be an exact science, but we’ll do our
best to prioritize seats to make sure Ten Club members get the “best seats in
the house.”

For questions or information regarding your tickets please contact
tickets@tenclub.net. For questions or concerns about your membership, please
contact info@tenclub.net. Keep in mind that due to the inevitable high
volume of requests for customer service, a response to your questions may
not be immediate. We will answer your emails in the order they are received,
so please avoid sending multiple messages. All sales are final. No refunds.  All
prices are in US dollars (USD) per PAIR of tickets.  All dates subject to
change.

Date                City/Venue        Ticket price/ Pair  USD

Pearl Jam = greastest American rock band. (http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/popcandy/2005-07-05-pop-candy_x.htm)

While I certainly don't argue, I think this list is embarassing to be atop of. How does Journey outrank the Doors, REM, Nirvana, and the Dead?

They're headlining a show at our state's best outdoor venue (the Gorge in George, WA).  It's this awesome ampitheater with a huge canyon and river as the backdrop for the stage. You can get into the pit or just watch from this huge grass hill.

No opening bands. Just them for like 3 or 4 hours.

My buddy and I are probably going to try to get tickets to this one. I usually don't like Pearl Jam at big venues, but this one sounds pretty good.

I heard it's an absolute bitch to get tickets for, since scalpers somehow beat the system and got most of the tickets.

I'd love to see them in a venue like that.

Great show last Friday, of the 6 Pearl Jam shows I had seen, it was by far the loudest, by far the most intense and by far the best crowd.  My favorite of the 6, not really because of the setlist or anything though...more being with my friend and meeting and spending the day/evening with Brent and his friend Duane.

And, funny you should mention the age thing Ben, I thought that he looked OLD.  I mean really old...I do agree those pictures are pretty neat though...

Oh, I sat in the 4th row, Mike's side.  My pictures didn't turn out (AGAIN >:() but a couple did...

Yeah, I began thinking he looked old when I saw that clip of Given to Fly on VH1 last weekend (it can also be found on VH1's site by checking the React Now linky).

I guess it was the long hair and no beard that made me think he looked younger.

Are you buying those downloads through the 10c? I'm considering it, and after hearing Hard to Imagine from the Gorge, I think I might buy that one.

Does Pearl Jam have some sort of beef with the South? They've never toured past the Mason-Dixon line, that I can remember - and here they're touring with My Morning Jacket (from Kentucky), and still aren't going further south than Illinois.

Pretty ******* disapointing.

So, I've come into possession of crappy mp3s from the new album. All 13 tracks.

I just don't know what to think. Those that haven't liked their stuff since Yield will like this album, but if you liked Binaural and Riot Act, this might not be your cup of tea.

Gone is an early favorite. I liked what I heard on the fan club single, and with the full band playing on it, I like it more.

It's kind of like Yield or Vitalogy- all over the place, but still somewhat cohesive. But it's still its own beast, and with a little more time, I might come to like it better.

So, I've come into possession of crappy mp3s from the new album. All 13 tracks.

Ditto... and after listening to them for about a week... I'm still undecided. I've always felt that their music comes across way better in a live situation than it does on record, with the exception of the first two. Every album after Vs. I've always been like "meh" when I hear it at first, but when we go to the shows, the songs really pop out and I can appreciate them more. I'm hoping the same thing happens with this record. I think the songs are pretty good, with "Severed Hand", "World Wide Suicide", and "Big Wave" being the best of the bunch IMO.

Did you catch them on SNL last night? I saw a promo during the day for it, otherwise I might have missed it. They played "World Wide Suicide" and "Severed Hand" and both songs pretty much rocked. I'm so psyched for the tour to hit my area!

Yeah, I watched SNL. That really made WWS click for me.  :)

I'm starting to get into the album. "Life Wasted" is starting to sound better, and I still dig "Unemployable."
Title: Re: Saw Things So Much Clearer...Pearl Jam Thread V4.0
Post by: Scott on April 16, 2006, 11:57 PM
Agreed on WWS, that live performance sealed that as a dang good song.  I also really liked Severed Hand, I've listened to probably 6 of the tracks so far, not sure what to think yet.  Although, my initial reaction is that I like what I hear more than I liked Riot Act or Binaural.

Got my tickets for the two Saint Paul shows (and a pair for Brent ;)) should be a great time, especially with Petty playing as well

Woah... how cool is this?

Quote
Pearl Jam, The Ten Club and CBS's The Late Show with David Letterman
are
excited to offer up this unique opportunity to watch the band perform a
short set immediately following their performance on Dave's show on May
4th
in the historic Ed Sullivan Theatre.  You must be a current Ten Club
member
as of April 19th and live in either New York, Connecticut or New Jersey
to
be eligible.

Here's how it will work-

This is a first come first serve opportunity.  Log on to
www.pearljam.com
Friday, April 21st before 1 PM Eastern time.  Go to the GOODS section
and
LOG IN to your Ten Club account.  Then at 1 PM Eastern, click the
Tickets
category and you'll have the opportunity to obtain 2 tickets to the
show.
Only the eligible Ten Club member will be allowed to pick up the
tickets.
A government-issued ID will be required for entry into the show.

Now here's the best part.  It's free....with a couple of catches.
First,
we're going to ask you for your credit card information.  Your card
will not
be charged, but we need it to verify your transaction.  Second, you
ABSOLUTELY must be able to participate in this event if you are
able to get tickets.  Failure to show up for this event may have an
impact
on whether you are considered for future promotions from the Ten Club.

There are only 350 seats in the Ed Sullivan Theatre, so we only have
175
pairs to give away. These are general admission tickets.  If you are
lucky
enough to get a pair of these tickets, you will receive an email on May
2nd, explaining how to pick up your tickets.  Keep in mind this show
will
take place at 6:00 PM Eastern time in New York City.  Participants will
need to be there by 4:30 PM on May 4th. If you can't make it at that
time,
don't bother trying to get tickets!!!!

Best of luck-
Ten Club Staff

Wow

This is an amazing CD, the first time through I've listened and I cannot say how impressed I am with it

The full band version of Gone has to be my favorite track so far, but I also really really really like Life Wasted and Parachutes.

There is no real throw away track on here, there is a lot of angst and bad feelings that are just oozing out of the whole thing and the rage, the sadness and the whole thing is just wonderful.

And this is on the first listen.  It took a long time for me to even force myself to like more than a few tracks on Binaural or Riot Act, there was a lot of crap on both of those.  Not so much here...maybe because its a lot more melodic and anthemic...a return to the roots they seemed to leave after Yield

On an OCB scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest, I'll give Pearl Jam's Pearl Jam an 11

It doesn't now, but when the CD CD comes out, you should strongly consider sending him at least a dollar each, for whatever songs you illegally downloaded (provided those songs wound up on the final album), along with a letter of apology.  That would be the right thing to do.

The Band That, Unbelievably, Is Still Making New Music That, Perhaps Even More Unbelievably, People Are Still Listening To, The Greatest Band in History is set to release more said music (much of which is unheard by said people) something for the Rock Band platform:

Quote
"Backspacer" will also be available on "Rock Band" the day it comes out, and Target has an exclusive on an edition of the album featuring access to download its songs for "Rock Band" on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. It's a precursor to a dedicated Pearl Jam game that could hit stores in 2010.

So I picked up Backspacer today... I had low expectations about it for some reason but after listening to it I really, really like it. So much that I'd say it's one of Pearl Jam's strongest albums. All of the songs flow together seamlessly and keeping it short (total run time is around 36 minutes) was a great idea because there isn't any filler. Also "Got Some" => "The Fixer" => "Johnny Guitar" is one of the coolest trifectas ever. The packaging is really cool too. Highly recommended, and it's on sale for $11.98 at Target until Saturday if anyone is interested.

I picked it up tonight, and I have to say I'd put this up there with Ten and Lost Dogs as my favorite Pearl Jam projects they've released. The album really slides together well, and I like changes of pace. To me this feels familiar, but something entirely new from them. They definitely haven't lost their touch as a band.

Picked up the vinyl LP at Target. I didn't think they'd acutally carry it, but they had a bunch of them. $19.99 plus your state's share. They also had the Backspacer t-shirts with the spaceman and the drums on it, but it was also $20 and I decided it had to wait. The stores that have this shirt can be found here, (http://www.pearljam.com/news/pearl-jam-loomstate-create-limited-edition-backspacer-t-shirt) and I assume that this is the same list that carries the LP, since I didn't see either the shirts nor the LP at the other local Target, which I might add is not a Super Target.

Got this email from the 10C today...

Pearl Jam − Live on Ten Legs

Kicking off the band’s twentieth anniversary year and ensuing celebrations in style, Pearl will release a new live compilation album, ‘Live Live On Ten Legs’, on January 17th 2011.

‘Live on Ten Legs’ was recorded over the course of the band’s 2003-2010 world tours by recording engineer John Burton and newly remixed by longtime Pearl Jam engineer Brett Eliason and remastered.

The ‘Live on Ten Legs’ tracklisting (below) spans the entirety of Pearl Jam’s 20-year career catalog and also includes a couple of rare cover versions (Joe Strummer and The Mesceleros’ ‘Arms Aloft’ and Public Image Ltd.’s ‘Public Image’).

Both the CD and box set can be pre-ordered from liveontenlegs.com

A U.S.-based pre-sale of the CD and LP is also available at pearljam.com
Full Tracklisting:

   1. Arms Aloft
   2. World Wide Suicide
   3. Animal
   4. Got Some
   5. State of Love And Trust
   6. I Am Mine
   7. Unthought Known
   8. Rearview Mirror
   9. The Fixer
  10. Nothing As It Seems
  11. In Hiding
  12. Just Breathe
  13. Jeremy
  14. Public Image
  15. Spin the Black Circle
  16. Porch
  17. Alive
  18. Yellow Ledbetter

I should probably go ahead and order the LP, since the previous live LPs from PJ are ridiculously expensive these days. But I have to ask- does a live version of 'Yellow Ledbetter' really need to be on this? I know they've closed every show since 2003 with it, but c'mon.

Ok, looks like there's going to be a "CD only" 3-disc version of the boxset for $30. I'd totally be down for the super deluxe set but I really have no use for the vinyl records. Need to do some further research on this.

Hopefully it's easier to find in stores than the Ten reissue... I could only find it at FYE and had to pay a way inflated price.

We'll put you up in the Radisson this time around, right next door to the phone booth.

Sweet. I'm hoping for a bigger tour than what's been announced so far.

I have GOT to find a way to get tickets to the Dallas show... their first time in Texas since 2003!

Anyone want to lend me their Ten Club info? :-*

Lightning Bolt is streaming online right now on iTunes...first thoughts:

Like Pearl Jam and Backspacer and unlike Riot Act and Binaural before it, my gut shot first impression was mostly positive
Ed rearranged Sleeping by Myself for the full band...it sounds AltCountry...totally caught me off guard
Absolutely dig: Sirens and Future Days
Really like: Getaway, Mind your Manners, Lightning Bolt, Infallible
Still growing on me: Pendulum, Yellow Moon, Infallible
Don't Care for: My Father's Son

Being the tenth studio album I've been thinking about how they go from 1-10.  Here goes:

Yield
Ten
Vs
Backspacer
Pearl Jam
No Code
Vitalogy
Lightning Bolt (As it stands right now)
Riot Act
Binaural

Gave a half ass listen last night and had it playing in the background and first impressions are very positive.  I absolutely love Sirens.  Will give it a deeper listen tonight.

Going to the Hartford shown on the 25th, first show of the tour is tomorrow.  Looking forward to my show and the reviews on the others.

So, so happy to see this. The St. Paul show seems the best for me.  :)

Gonna do my best to see them at ACL, especially if I can get press passes through work. They added the second weekend last year and tickets were really cheap since it's almost too much... hopefully that's the case again this year.

Question for anyone who's seen them in the last 5 to 10 years:
Pearl Jam is one of my all time favorite bands. "Black" is my favorite song of all time.
Having said that I think their, let's say pre 2000 stuff is brilliant overall, but their post 2000 stuff is only "good" overall. When they perform now do they do a nice mix of their stuff or do they "promote" newer stuff? I know they don't have any super recent releases so that maybe helps my cause.
Any thoughts?

Their last two albums have been fantastic.  PJ isn't one of those bands that plays the same set every night during the tour, every set list is unique.  They play their 'hits' for the casual fans, stuff from their new albums, but also deep cuts from their catalog for the die hards, along with a few covers (last time I saw them we got Eruption-Aint Talking About Love and it was nuts).  Highly recommend seeing them live, none of the shows I've been to hasn't disappointed.

You need to go...they tend to cover 1-4 songs from each of the albums with an emphasis on the latest (maybe closer to 4-5).  Mainstays like Alive, Even Flow and Black get played most nights.

I think the latest CD is solid, as has everything been post Binaural.  Seriously, you need to go, it is an amazing show.
