Title: Hyperspace
Post by: Mister Skeezler on October 18, 2004, 03:55 PM
I finally signed up for Hyperspace on Friday, and I'm still waiting for my user id and password. How long does it usually take?

You're supposed to already have a username and password. Did you mean you are waiting for an activation number?

Anyone still maintaining a Hyperspace membership?

May I ask why?

I am not too hip on the idea of the TV shows coming out...and to me SW will always be the movies.  With the movies being done, I don't see any benifit in reupping.

Thoughts?

Well Scott, I never joined Hyperspace because  . . . . well, the usual arguments of not thinking I should pay for content that use to be free and I kept to my principals and did not miss it at all.

I would also agree that it is not worth it to even have a membership now. Why? I also think that in time Lucas will return the content to free to keep interest.

Once the price was upped, I didn't go back.

I also have yet to redeem the three-month trial I got with the EB kit.  :-\

I've got my old membership but I don't think I'll renew it. It just isn't worth it. I want insider but I don't want the HS membership.

I signed up for Hyperspace back in July 2004, because I was just desperate to see the ROTJ wave of VOTC figs, which had just debuted at ComicCon, and at the time, Hyperspace was the only place that had 'em.

By the time they sent me my log-in stuff, I had already seen all the pics at JD (and other places).

I never bothered to mess with any of their "set diaries" or anything else, so the only benefit I got out of Hyperspace was a few issues of Insider--and that was negligible at best.

To sum up, worst $40 I ever spent.

A few weeks back, SW.com did a free 7-day trial of Hyperspace for people who had never been members of the site before.  So, I went ahead and did it, figuring I could read all the stuff I was interested in over the course of a week, and since I'm still on dialup, the videos wouldn't do me any good anyway.

I read all the articles that interested me in one day, attempted reading the pre-ROTS webstrip before it crashed my browser four times in a row, and never logged on for the remaining 6 days.  Needless to say, I didn't "join" Hyperspace, mainly due to my own crappy technology, but partially because I just wasn't all that impressed with what I saw during the preview.

The thing that bothers me about Hyperspace isn't so much that it exists (okay, paying for web content kind of disturbs me, but anyway), but the fact that the regular SW.com has become pretty much useless outside of the Databanks since it launched.  Prior to Hyperspace, the SW site had several articles and interviews and video clips and so on, but once HS hit, and despite claims from Lucas Online that this would not happen, "regular" site updates became like a needle in a haystack, and HS was getting updated all the time.

It was like LFL was basically saying, "Unless you give us even more of your money, you aren't going to get ****."  That kind of bothered me, as if LFL was drawing a line in the sand saying the only fans they cared about were the ones who were rich enough to afford the access to their information.

With no movies coming, and my total apathy and/or dread toward the idea of a live action television show, Hyperspace is a waste of time and money in my eyes.

I got my notice to renew but I'm not going to since there is no need at the moment to resign.

I'm not even subscribed to the Insider anymore, apparently. Aren't they supposed to send you notices when the subscription is almost up? Never got one. Oh well.

It was a nightmare for me Lando.  I have to keep sending them emails to get it done.  It seems like it took several months before I finally got them to send me one.  It was one of those situations where "This area does not handle try this area.  No, that area does it contact them again.  No we don't handle it call this number.  No that is not it try this area again."

Nightmare for me too...  Finally bitched till I got like 2 confirmations and stuff.  Just terrible how I had to fight with them though to get something they MADE me take to be a FC member.

I have found HS to be neat at times, but I'd say the vast majority of the time they don't give you enough worthy stuff.  They need many, MANY more pics in their photoreceptor area, and they need to add better content (stuff like the holo-news feature would be neat if updated routinely on the site).

Full deleted sequences woudl be a major bonus if they were included but stuff like that is just so rare.  Too bad really.  HS seems like a somewhat wasted resource to me.
