You tell me this AFTER I go ahead and make reservations  >:(

I literally just made my reservations for both C3 and SDCC just now. I moved to a closer Hampton this time MAC, so maybe that will entice you to be a part of Spooning Incident '05!

I am REALLY looking forward to SDCC later this year. Flying solo, but reserved a room big enough for roomies. Holler if you need a place to stay while there, the hotel is on the shuttle route. Getting around without a car in San Diego was really not a problem.

It is my understanding that Lucasfilm is to have another large chunk of the floor again. 8) Good times!

:-* We will definately hang out this time, Matt!

Probably numerous other SoCal guys from here...

Sounds like the 2006 Comic Con may be the one to hit, with tentive confirmations coming in from Morgbug, jokabofe, and a couple others already...  8)

If I can afford it, I'll fly out to this one for 2 days, but thats it. No more of this 4 day chaos, car driving, car crashing, bit.

No way.

FYI:

At the San Diego convention this year, the MR mini will be the Black Smoked Chrome Yoda ROTS .45 Lightsaber (like Obi-Wan's for CIII).

I am assuming the same price point of $35.00 like at C3.  I am also assuming you'll be able to buy other props there but, hopefully, the line for this one won't be too bad.

I may be able to go for a day or two.  My Brother and sister are thinking about taking my nieces to sea world on july 17th so I ask for the week off.  If I go I will end up going with my cousin to try and get what every exclusives GG has to offer and the Liea.

So Gentle Giant just announced (http://www.gentlegiantltd.com/news/?id=36&PHPSESSID=7cc8d67f9f0ceda8bf1662082fa7968e) their Comic Con exclusive, and it's a rather unexciting Silver Jango Fett Bust-up.  Huh.  Surprised if they don't have a bust this year, in the middle of all the ROTS hype, with the last big hurrah going on right now, and after having regular busts the last couple years.  Strange...

Maybe they'll surprise us all and still announce one though, and just have two exclusives there.  But I think it sounds pretty doubtful at this point.  One less headache for me, and everyone else, though.

So who all's going to want the Silver Jango?  They're supposedly limited to one per day, but we'll see what we can do about that.  No word yet on price, but I'd expect it to probably be around $10.

I think it's time to start a running tally here of who wants what from Comic Con next month, so I'll get it started here with a preliminary list.  Holler if you've got an update/revision for it!  These names aren't in a completely finalized order here, as I've also gotten a number of requests at various times via PM as well (that I haven't gone all the way through again lately)...

Hasbro's Holographic Leia ($14):

jokabofe x2
Morgbug x1
DSJ x1
Jesse James x1
Scott x1
Jeff x1
JesseVader08 x2
Kneel Before Zod x2
Sith Lord Chaos x1
jadesfire x1
JoshEEE x1
erb1975 x1-3
evenflow x1
JedioftheNorth x2

Master Replica's .45 Smoked Chrome Yoda Mini-saber ($35):

jadesfire
psu189
Jedidz23
JuvyD (if it's not at WW Chicago)

Gentle Giant's silver Jango Fett Bust-up ($5?):

JoshEEE
Morgbug

With what, the Yoda saber, or one of the other exclusives we've been discussing in here (Holo Leia, Jango Bust-up, etc.)...?  I already have you down for a couple Holo Leias, so I wanted to double check.

LMK, and I'll add your request into the official exclusives wants list above.  Also need a definite 1 or 2 for your order, since we don't want to be stuck with any extras of anything...

If you're upset about Natalie Portman, don't be, as I'm sure she will be rushing in through a side door and when her two hours at the "V for Vendetta" press junket is done, she'll rush right back out the side door and won't talk to anyone in the general public since she's Little Miss Movie Star now.   :P

I'd be more concerned about missing out if Alan Moore shows up and goes all ape**** (again) about them making a movie out of his graphic novels and not letting him have any part in it (even though every time he's offered input into his adaptations, he turns it down, and then proceeds to spend the next 20 years bitching about how nobody asked him).  I love watching "celebrities" have nervous breakdowns.   ;D

For those of you who are going, is anyone interested in going to the Fan Club Breakfast thing on Saturday morning?  I think it costs $50, and you'll get a Holo Leia (in a goody bag), breakfast, and some random Star Wars related guest star in attendance.

I've got a buddy who mistakenly bought one ticket too many for this event and is looking to unload his extra one (in person at the con would be fine).  So LMK if anyone's interested, and I'll fill you in on the rest of the details.  Thanks.

So I'm thinking of at least proposing we schedule a Friday night Hooters gathering, for starters (after the Star Wars Spectacular show).  More get-togethers (lunch, Saturday night, etc.) would be cool too, but I figured we should line up Friday night so folks can mark that into their mental schedules.  We're trying to coordinate with some of the GH'ers too, so hopefully we can do a little cross-pollenating there...  ;)

That's aside from pollenating any Hooters waitresses, like this one (courtesy of Roger)...

Ah ****, what next. GH is reporting that Code 3 will be taking pre-orders for their upcoming Revenge of the Jedi 3D Poster  (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=4664&zoneid=2) for a great price of $24.95 at Comic Con.

Ya better add that to me list Matt, remember, it's a pre-order.

Chasing Dale's tail, but put me down as well please.  I wonder if I can mail you a six pack of Guiness?

I think we should make a dozen.   :-\

To Matt and everyone else going to ComicCon, in light of today's news items:

I'm so sorry. :'( >:(

On the bright side, I'm feeling a little less bad about not being able to go and missing seeing this travesty unfold in person. ::)

Hey Matt, in addition to the Holo Leia, can you try and see if you can get me the free Galactic Hero figure at the Hasbro booth.  :)

Now that I think about it, it's likely just going to be a random Galactic Hero figure.  Just like what they did at Celebration III when they gave out free random Attacktix figures.

Except last year it was a bagged scout trooper.  Identical to the regular release except for the baggie.  So maybe, maybe not.

Hey everyone!  We're still shooting for Hooters tomorrow night, after the convention.  Question is, how late does the main convention hall stay open?  I was originally thinking that we'd just head over to Hooters after Sansweet's Star Wars Spectacular presentation, but that's a little earlier than I remembered now.  Since I'm only there for one day, if there's more time to duck back into the convention hall after that show, I'll probably want to for a little bit.  Plus, I think Jay and Ricardo may be running late due to goofing around at some Master Replicas party, from what I've heard...  ::)

So I'd say let's all meet at Hooters (GH'ers too), whenever the convention officially closes for the day, if not a little bit earlier...  Most of us have eachother's cell phone #s already, so I'm sure we can coordinate things a little on the spot if needbe.

SCHEDULE UPDATE:

OK, I finally got my LAZY freakin' ass around to checking the actual SDCC schedule.  SW Spectacular lets out at 6:15pm, but the Convention Hall doesn't actually close 'til 7pm, so I'll be heading back in there 'til they kick my ass out the door.  Considering I may actually be standing in some exclusive line still at closing, I'd be inclined to say let's shoot for 7:30-8pm at Hooters.  That way I can unload some **** to the car/hotel/whatever.  Plus, Jay, Ricardo, and Jamie won't be able to get there 'til about 9:45pm, unfortunately.

How's that work for everyone/anyone?  I'll shoot for the earlier side (7:30) if possible, as can others of course, but I could be running as late as 8pm.  So I'm claiming a half hour window at least...  ;)

I don't know if this would be the proper thread for this, but I have a photo request.  Jared, if you could be so kind to try this, could you see if you can get a photo of the Pilot Obi-Wan (#56) with his cloak off, so we can see how articulated he is/isn't?  If they won't take it out for you to look at or show it to you after the Bly debacle, could you see if the carded figure has a photo of him sans cloak on the back and photograph that?

I'm eagerly awaiting the cluster**** that the Q&A is sure to be this evening.  Are the JD staff going to get another exclusive sitdown with the SW team like last year, or is Matt's photo posted behind the Hasbro booth with "DO NOT TALK TO THIS MAN" written below it like those "Do not accept checks from" things in convenience stores? :)

Hasbro just completed their Q&A session, and we've got the lowdown on the plans for the future.  Check it out here (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1121472344,54996,)!

Post by: SilverZ on July 16, 2005, 11:15 PM
Michael, there wasn't really a way to photograph the Obi without his cloak, and nearly impossible to see the back of the card in the display. Sorry.  :-\

Surprisingly, the Q&A went well. They had diffused a lot of the larger landmines in the ppt up front, most notably Unleashed. This time I thought they were much more upfront about their plans, handled the collector aspect with a lot more tact, and had enough good product to outweigh the rehashes they're putting out there. My frustration about the #6 Shocktrooper was helped out when seeing the SA 501st Clone, for example.

It wasn't all happy happy type stuff, but we certainly didn't leave with the impression that they were so locked into their marketing line that they wouldn't budge on having an open forum and feedback on their product. In fact, they were all very approachable and talkative. We're going to have a rough year to get through with all these exclusives but I'm much more optimistic about next year.

The Saga2 packaging looks great, and I'm really, really pleased that they've gone back to the location-themed release pattern again.

Ben:

"Bloody" Marv from Sin City

Well, I did some pretty good damage to this list, but unfortunately wasn't able to get everything for everyone.  Real sorry about that, but I ran out of time during my brief (1 day) stay, and I couldn't even carry anything more by the end of the day anyway (had about 10 bags).  BTW, the Holographic Leias (with Starcase) were $15 each, not $14 as I'd previously thought...

I've already PM'd most of the folks I got stuff for, but have a couple more to go at this point.  I'll try to contact the last couple people soon, so the rest can keep an eye on SWS.com for the Holo Leias when they presumably show up in the next day or two (like the C3 Vaders did after C3).

Matt, you honestly don't get enough praise for helping people out...  Some guys talk big game about what they do for the hobby, but you actually put your $ where your mouth is and always go the extra mile to help everyone out that you can...

You got my respect bud...  You do more than the vast majority to make the hobby "better" for people, and give a lotta guys peace of mind that you will help them out if it's at all possible.

A general vote of thanks, not just for your efforts at this year's SDCC, but all the other efforts I know you go to, to make sure Star Wars collecting fun for people.  Thanks man.

I'd like to echo those sentiments.  I know you'll just brush them off as "something that anyone would do", but seriously, I've never seen anyone go out of their way as much as you to help guys get what they need from these conventions.

Thank you.   :)

Matt, went back to a store -out of his way- to get me a fig he had just returned the previous day! I really needed that charred Annie. It's great to have people like that, that help out. A guy on RS passed several CW SA Clones on to me when they were impossible to find (actually, they were always impossible to find...). I don't feel like I've given much back to the community. :-\ Seems like I usually either can't find anything good before anyone else does, or I'm just flat broke.
