Title: Mikey D is now Daddy D
Post by: Mikey D on January 13, 2005, 07:50 AM
 ;D

We've known for about a month now, but there is always that waiting period until you decide to tell family and friends.  We broke the news to our parents at Christmas.  Both mothers cried hysterically.

Jen is almost three months along and the baby is due at the end of July.  Her and baby are doing great.  She doesn't want to know the sex, whereas I do.  I just have to work on that.  ;)

Both excited and nervous at the same time.

Congratulations.  Enjoy every stage...

Soon they will be in Jr. High like my eldest.  That time is not a bad stage for us like you here from most but you miss the times they were little.

Then you get over it just fine.

Scott: Oh, Mr. Davidson, I have just heard about the little bundle of joy.  Congratulations, sir!
Mikey: It's true, the bundle is little, but I'm not in it for the money.

Congrats to you and Jen Mikey!  Three words of advice:

#1 Enjoy these last moments of just the two of you.  My wife and I were talking about that last night, how we barely remember our life sans the little guys.

#2 Sleep, sleep and sleep.  Everyone tells you this but you really have no idea what its like...that sort of ties in to #1...really soak in those lazy Saturday mornings or the afternoons watching football ;)

#3 It goes fast.  I really can't believe Max is almost 3, its almost surreal really and as such, the highs and lows that go with child rearing are a whirlwind of everything and one I think is one of the greatest experiences of your life.

So congrats to you two again Mikey

What Scott said.

Awesome news, absolutely awesome.  Congratulations to you and Jen.

Advice: Jen is right about everything for the next 6-7 months, do not question anything, no matter how insane it may seem.  Get her what she wants.  Period.

Ah, diapers, vomit, sleepless nights.  Those are the days. ;D

What, like Oreo McFlurries, even though she's lactose intolerant?  ;)

Yeah, stuff like that.  Pickles and ice cream, etc.  I was fortunate, my wife only ended up with a craving for salt, so lots of trips to the late night drive thru for McD's french fries.  Just know that when she says she wants something, even if she says she doesn't want it now, you are expected to get it now.  To not do so is at your own peril ;)

Way to go Mikey!  Congratulations to you and Jen.   8)

Your lives are about to forever change...   ;)

Best wishes to wife and baby for a comfortable and healthy pregnancy (and eventual delivery).  You guys got any names picked out yet?  Started painting/decorating the youngin' room yet?  Scared?  Nervous?  Excited?  Elated?  Were you shooting for a baby right now?  (no pun intended)

Whatever the details, congrats.  And get ready for a wild ride!   :D

Started painting/decorating the youngin' room yet?

Baby's room to be started after the basement / bar / TV / Star Wars room is done, which should be soon.  Walls are painted, trim work is happening this week, carpet being installed Saturday and furniture being delivered next week.

You guys got any names picked out yet?

I like Tyler for a boy and Samantha for a girl.  Jen likes Tara for a girl.

Scared? Nervous? Excited? Elated?

Varying degrees of all four.

Were you shooting for a baby right now? (no pun intended)

Honestly, I've been ready for a while, I was just waiting for when Jen was.  And we weren't trying for that long either.  I guess she's just extremely fertile ;)

Very cool!  Your life is going to be forever changed, and so much for the better.

Nothing beats molding and nurturing a young mind, then one day your little one says "Daddy, can we watch Star Wars again?"  Well, what more can you ask for in life?   ;)

A quick update-

Jen had her first "real " ultra sound last Wednesday.  Everything's perfect.  She told the technician she didn't want to know the sex of the baby, whereas I did.  The technician wrote it down on a piece of paper and handed it to me.  I stuck in my back pocket and left it in my truck, not having looked at it.

On Thursday, I told her I looked at it, not doing so.  My plan was to keep the paper in the truck until she wanted to know.  If that was the day the kid was born, then so be it.  I didn't want to be the only person who knew the sex of the baby.  If I knew, I couldn't tell anymore, because the minute she received a specific sex item, she'd know what it was.

Jen lasted a total of a day and a half.  She called me Friday during lunch, saying she wanted to know.  I told her I'll give her the paper when I get home from work.

I got home and asked her if she really wanted to know.  She said yes, I went and got the paper and handed it to her.  For the record, she was 100% absolutely positive it was a girl.  She opened the paper and said she wasn't expecting that.  I said, let me see, I never looked at the paper.  I told her I didn't want to be the only one that knew and if it took nine months, then it took nine months.

With that said, I'm going to be the proud father of a baby boy!  Yesterday, we started registering and bought him his first outfit.  July 29th is going to be here before I know it.

That's great Mikey - We've been in the "find out at birth camp" for both our kids, and have stayed solid there through number 3.

With one girl and one boy, this new baby has become our tie breaker to see which way the gender balance of power will shift.

In about two and a half more weeks he or she will let us in our his or her little secret.

Best wishes,

Deanpaul

The ones I have now are his.  But it is tough to keep them carded and not play with them until he's ready for them ;)

And Congrats on the third bundle of joy, Dean.

Baby boy, cool!  I've got a 3 year old girl, and somehow managed to resist finding out the sex until the day she was born.  But it was pretty tempting some days...   :)

Congrats Mikey, it's gonna be fun.   :D

Congrats Mikey! I'm a clear proponent of knowing the sex before birth. It made shopping for our daughter all the more enjoyable just because we could envision (a little bit) how it might be. And it was a heck of a lot easier just concentrating on girl names. For our second child (due March 11), the technician couldn't tell for sure, so we've had to really struggle with NOT imagining what this one will be like. Plus, we had to think of names for both a boy and a girl...that my wife and I both liked (no easy task).  ;)

Deanpaul - When exactly is the due date for your third? Looks like around March 17? Our second is due the 11th...Pisces rule (wife's b-day is the 1st, mine is the 11th)! Congrats!

Congratulations!!!

You won't be getting any sleep once the bundle comes but you get used to it...kind of  :)

Put it this way.  My son is 15 weeks old and I am happy to only be up twice per night.  But he's lots of fun!!!

COngrats again Mikey  :)  We didn't find out for either boy but we were temtped more the second time than we were on Max.  I think if we ever have a third we might be even more tempted :P

Oh, and Erik is now 10 months and we're still getting up 2-3 times per week with him...Got Sleep? :P

Congratulations Bob! I can't keep track of who I knew was expecting and who is new news. Sorry if this is something I should have known already...

It looks like it's that time of year - time for all the babies to come out, that is. ;) We should start a new thread of "who's wife is not expecting!

Our date is the 16th according to the doc, the 11th according to the ultrasound tech. We're going with the doc, and my wife has been late with the last two, so we're really just enjoying the ride. I'm mostly praying for a non-St. Pat's kid. Our son was born on Halloween, but I don't think it would be very fun to have your birthday on a holiday when your friends are consistently drunk for you party...

I'm in the Pisces pool as well - Feb 23. We've got a lot of company in here.

Don't worry about the sleep though.  There are plenty of great programs to watch from 2-4am.  If you don't mind watching re-runs of Home Improvement that is :)

That's a whole lot of Pisces...or should I say a school of Pisces.

Yes, by all means, tell your wife to try not to have the baby on St. Pat's. ;) Drinking holidays and baby birthdays just don't go together. We're (well, she is) trying to aim for this week, since my wife is oh-so ready to have this child. Anticipation is getting the best of both of us.

Best wishes to you and your family for an easy delivery and healthy child.

Congrats to one and all.  We weren't told the gender of our child, hospital policy forbade it.  Not sure why, but it did.  We were allowed to guess and we guessed wrong :o  All the old folk-isms insisted it would be a boy and it wasn't.  My daughter turns 5 in April and it quite simply rocks.  She's a hoot and I wouldn't trade her for any boy.

With a boy, you only have to worry about one prick, with a girl, you have to worry about all of them.  As I tell my friends with boys, it's nothing personal, but I will shoot your son if I have to ;D

Awesome news Mike.  I was just thinking about you last night and how your wife was due anytime.  You've stepped into a much larger world now.  Life only gets more complicated from here on out, but it is worth every minute of it.  If your like most parents, you'll find a certain void in your life is now complete.  Plans for more?  Dont even ask the wife this one for a while ;D Once again congrats!

Yeah, but not until Aidan's out of diapers.

My son is an Aidan, too... nice name :)

Aidan was actually a late suggestion by my wife.  We didn't finally decide on a name until after he was born.  Aidan was one of four we were trying to decide on - Tyler, Ryan and Conner being the others.

You know. . .I clicked the picture before I read your text and I was already going to comment on the size of those hands.  Wow.  Wookiee hands.

Buy a piano.  With those long fingers, the kid's a natural.

As far as naming goes, I'm there with you.  Both our kids were two or three days old before we named them.  Makes the nurses nervous.

Somewhere I've got a picture of all the revisions we went through naming our daughter written on the whiteboard in our hospital room.  Name, Spelling options, what a monogram would look like. .. etc.

Big job naming a kid.  Welcome to a world where you get to make decisions that will affect some else for the rest of their life.
