Title: Master Replicas SW Poker Chip Set!
Post by: DSJ™ on February 21, 2005, 10:09 AM
Ummmm! Is this what I think it is? Master Replicas Poker  (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Conventions/Toy_Fair_2005/Misc&image=tf2058.jpg&img=&tt=) chip set with case?

If so, I'm in trouble.   ;D

Great pictures Dave, well done.  8)

Oh ****, that's cool!  Sign me up, for sure.  How much?  Any details on this set anywhere?

And can anyone make out what's on the black $100 chip?  Can't figure that one out...

I need to learn how to play poker, so I have an excuse to buy this. I've got a general idea how, but none of the specifics.

You should've had your TV co-star or prom date teach you, via some Strip Poker.  Much quicker to learn that way...   ;)

I'd have picked up real fast.

Co-star? Psh. She was an extra in my mind. I was the man of the hour.

The MR rep told me that set was going to retail for $150. Very nice looking set, something I will more than likely be adding to my collection when it is released.

I was wondering what the price would be.  I doubt I will get this, as cool as it looks, since I can spend that on the mini Sith saber set I convinced myself I wasn't going to buy  :-\.

Nice to see one of our big spenders return.  I was feeling like I was spending alot all by my lonesome.  Damn Vader stuff >:(

I'll pass on the poker chips.

This would certainly be one of the more unique pieces in a person's collection!  I'd love to have it, but I don't think it'll be a real priority.  There's simply too much else out there that I'll buy first, for now.

And especially after I broke the bank ordering that Sideshow Vader...

I think Philip mentioned it was going to be a Target exclusive, which seems very strange to me - especially at that price point.  But he also seemed to insinuate that more sets were coming, as exclusives for other retail outlets as well.  Not sure I was reading that right, as that seems equally strange...

Maybe he didn't mean Poker Chip sets, but rather other novelty SW items from MR.   ???

A Target exclusive! Can't see it myself. Has there ever been any MR. stuff that show up at retail?  ???

Yes, their f/x sabers were available at Meijers stores.  The had two of them tethered to the display so you could try them (and both ended up broken due to people really wacking the living **** out of them).  Also, Walmart carried them on-line, from mini's to full size replica's.  Walmart even had an exclusive...though it was more of a nightmare than anything else.

I had a family emergency that left me drained but it looks like my son will be ok, so I'm back among the living again.  I just showed my son the set last night (he's a poker addict right now) and he told me I just had to get that, it was so cool.  So....since I don't need much proding to buy anything Star Wars related, I guess I am going to be getting this after all.  If this comes out before C3, we'll have to get together and I'll see if I can have others help me pay for my collection  :-*

So, did you break down and order a Vader saber or are you talking about Sideshows nice little offering ;)...I guess  I'd better catch up on reading the other threads.

Wow :o  Certainly a valid reason for an absence.  I'll presume everything is as you suggest and better now.  All the best up from up north in any case :-\  Hope you're doing all right as well.

Vader stuff - no, no saber yet (though I do own the regular release MR version), I haven't sprung for an FX saber.  Just the thought of the GG statue, an upcoming GG bust and I have yet to admit to ordering a Sideshow Vader at this point in time :-X

Anyone got an ETA on this thing?  I don't seem to recall hearing about one, or seeing one in this thread...  Of course, I don't pay attention real well either.

It looks like we'll finally be seeing this set released sometime in 2006, according to MR's plans (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1135334895,25626,) for the upcoming year.  This would certainly be one of the more unique items in a collection.   8)

This was rumored to be a Target exclusive long ago, IIRC...  I'll have to check it out in person and decide, but I'm somewhat interested in them, and am long overdue in getting some new poker chips!

Sure will be interesting to see what this will cost and what the chip weight is, hopefully 11.5 gram.  :)

Why Beth, don't you play with any of your toys?  :P

I'm going to be busting them out for the Friday night Poker games. Of course, that means I'll have to actually start playing again. But I'm sure I can convince a few buddies to come over for some free beer and food.

Yes, that's whom I was referring to!  I know there was more to the story in another thread but the link is gone.  Thanks for finding that Dale.  I still laugh out loud every time I think of Jim.

Well WTF is happening with this set? The site above now has a release date change, 30/08/2007. So like is this going to happen or will it be on the backburner.  ::)

I had e-mailed MR a few months ago about this and they replied that this was still going to be coming out, but that they were pushing their other merchandise first.  They wouldn't confirm a date, but gave me a 'soon' reply.

Can't wait to get one or two sets.  My current 11.5g set needs to be replaced and this would be the perfect set to do so.  Any word on how many will be in a set (300? 500?)

Found the original e-mail:

Dear Michael,

I believe we will be doing this product evenyually. It had been pushed
back due to the volume of products we are releasing at the moment. I believe the Marvel one will be released first and then the Star Wars one. I do not have any specifics however on when.I am sorry I can not be more informative.

Sincerely,

thecollectorzone.com (http://Thecollectorzone.com/product.asp?pid=7033) lists it as a 300 13.5g chip set. I would rather have a 500 11.5g set.

I definitely agree with you there.  I really like the feel of the 11.5g chips and having 500 in a set would put me all in for two sets without hesitation.  I don't see myself getting three sets.  That's really unfortunate because I liked how these looked when I saw them at CIII.

I thought I had read a Q&A somewhere with MR that they had given up on this set since they couldn't figure out how they wanted to do it and didn't think there was too much of a demand for it.

I know.. I was totally looking forward to it... But now Cartamundi will be having a poker chip set (I pre-ordered mine at CIV).  They don't even mention it on their website but they had the prototypes there.   Granted, they're plastic, only in 3 colors (Green, Red, Blue) and 4 faces (Yoda/Luke, Vader, and I forget who was on the blue- Obiwan?).   They do glow in the dark though.   It's only a 250 set though and will run around $150.  I've been looking for SW poker chips for a while now so I of course jumped right in.

Damn. That is one impressive set. :o

If I actually played poker more I would absolutely HAVE to have that. As it is I may have to try to track one down slightly cheaper on eBay. I love that light up feature.

Honestly.. it's "OK".   I applaud Cartamundi for getting this out but there are a few things that I think suck immensely:
1.  Three colors of chips but 4 characters....   that's just stupid
2.  The nice LED case that they come in doesn't have a FRICKIN HANDLE!!!   WTF?
3.  Artwork is kinda dumb imho... like pasted on stickers in the middle of the chip.

All this can be yours if the price is right.... or wrong in my case since I pre-ordered it at CIV....
I'm not unhappy that I got it... I just wish it felt more like it was worth the $150+ tax I paid for it
