Title: April/2005 - Your Plan of Action
Post by: Brian on February 22, 2005, 12:15 PM
After seeing the pics, information, and comments of what has been shown at Toy Fair (and around the web the past few weeks/months), are you starting to get an idea of what you will be (or would like to) picking up this year?  Although we still have some figures/toys yet to be seen, and hopefully some surprises, now that we have some official information (and prices), I've been trying to piece together what I'm hoping to pick up.

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
Most likely I'll be picking up the majority of this line, although I'm not a completist.  Collection 2 figures have all looked great, and I will likely buy those in their entirety.  Collection 1 figures I might be more selective with, although I will pick up all wookiees and clones, and then the "best" versions of the main characters.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
Not sure about this yet, but I think I will probably get the "Anakin to Vader" deluxe figure.  Undecided on the Emperor, but I think I might get that one as well.  Passing on that leaping Obi-Wan thing though.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
These didn't turn out nearly as cool as I first thought, and I think I will likely be passing on these as well.  If they look better in person, I might reconsider, but now...at that price...I think I'll pass.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
I'm not much of a 12" figure collector, so likely passing here as well.  I will probably pick up that ROTS Chewie we've seen some pics of here and there (even though it is a KB exclusive).  Wanted to get the OTC version, but just never did.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
From what I've read, this consists of the BARC Speeder, AT-RT, and Boga.  I will likely be picking up all three of these, but I'll check them in person to be sure.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
Again, from what I've read, this consists of Obi-Wan's Starfighter, the Droid Tri-Fighter, and Grievous' Wheelbike.  These I'll have to wait and see on (price and space), but I'd like to for sure get Obi's fighter and Grievous' wheelbike, and we'll see about the Tri-Fighter.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
ARC 170 Fighter and Gunship repaint.  I'll be passing on the Gunship for sure, already have 1 and barely have the space for that one.  A really cool ship though I think, and quite large.  I would definitely like to pick up the ARC 170, providing I have the cash :).

Playsets - $29.99
The Mustafar playset.  It seems a bit underwhelming from the pics, but I'm still considering picking it up, just because I haven't bought a modern playset yet and they were always kind of neat in the vintage days.  Undecided on this one for now.

Unleashed - $14.99
From what we've seen and know is coming, I think I'll be picking up all three.  I for sure would like to get the Anakin/Obi-Wan (I passed on the AOTC versions), and I think these would make a nice "centerpiece".  Grievous I may pick up as well.  I really like this line a lot, but finding the space for them is proving more and more difficult.  I've seen rumors of Chewie, Clonetrooper, Yoda and Sidious...and I'd consider each of those as well.

Force Battlers - $9.99
I'm guessing none of these for me.  The price is too high, and I'm not all that crazy about them.  If they produce a Chewie one, I'd probably pick it up, but otherwise for now I'm staying away from these I think.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
Three new sets so far is all we've seen, and I'll pick up all three if I see them.  Another line that I think is fun, and relatively inexpensive, to collect.  I'll get the 3 ROTS offerings, and hope that we see more later in the year (hopefully more OT as well).

Jedi Force - $7.99
Surprised we're seeing these and "Force Battlers" side by side, seem like the same type of thing.  I have picked up a few of these previous releases (Chewie, Droids, Vader), and might be tempted to get some of these new ones.  I'll likely get a Han to put with Chewie, and the Yoda looks kind of neat too.  The others I will have to consider at the time, but again, not sure if I have the room for them...and they are more for the kiddies (but I guess all of this is....supposedly, right? :P)

Darth Tater - $7.99
Maybe.  Maybe.  That's all I can say at this point.  I sometimes like the little odd-ball additions to the collection.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
Nope, not interested in these at all.

Role Play - Various Prices
I've never picked up anything like this in the modern line (have one vintage Vader saber), so I'm kind of tempted to get one lightsaber, just to have one.  I'll also look at the nerfy Chewbacca bowcaster.  Might be fun to play with with our nephews (or kids someday).

Lots more coming this year, but this is a long enough post as it is.  These will probably be the main focuses for me, but it is more than enough on its own.  Lots of money spent this year, our checkbook is already shivering in corner :).  Any idea of what you are looking towards picking up this year?

My focus will be on the 3 3/4 figures and a few vehicles and beasts.  Oh and maybe a couple 12 inchers and Unleashed figs.  I won't be picking up any Force Battlers, Attactix, Games, Lightsabers, Legos, Code 3, PlaySchool, etc.

I may go to Burger King for a few glasses or toys.

Clones, Wookies, Droids. Anakins, and thats it. I'll wait and go the Amazon.com route, or search stores. Maybe get 4 packs from KB, on clearance. God those were fun days.

Stealing directly from Brian...

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
I'll end up with most, if not all of these.  My intent is to pass on most initially.  If I like them, fine, I'll pay retail for them but if they're somewhat interesting then I'll wait for clearance down the road since I'm a loose collector, I hardly need to pay full price and you know most will be cheaper.  Clones I'll likely buy every one I see.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
Rather doubtful about these, the Anakin to Vader is a maybe, but beyond that, fuggedaboutit.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
Blech, if at all, clearance.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
Doubtful.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
Maybe, maybe not.  Depends what happens when I see them.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
Clearance.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
Clearance

Playsets - $29.99
Clearance

Unleashed - $14.99
Not sure where to go here.  I'm thinking of downsizing this line, but an "interactive" set of Obi/Anakin is pretty tempting.  I'll be offloading my Obi to a friends kid, so it may work out well.  Likely pass on most ROTS offerings.

Force Battlers - $9.99
 ::)

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
I'll probably snag all of these.  My daughter still likes to play with these as it is right now and they are small enough when she loses interest.

Jedi Force - $7.99
 ::)

Darth Tater - $7.99
I may, but I shouldn't.  It's nothing I need.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
No thank you.

Role Play - Various Prices
I'm trying to stay away from these and I may well try to get rid of most of mine.  I don't play with them and Master Replica stuff displays so much nicer.  If I pick up anything, it will be on clearance.

I keep wondering what the retail response is going to be on these.  Are retailers crazy enough to repeat Episode I and Episode II again???  Or have they become a little more savvy and a little more disenchanted with the Star Wars franchise?  I can still find Saga items in most stores but is the lure of a movie year for promotional purposes enough to draw them in and have them order huge quantities?  Enough that a majority of product will go on clearance in September?

I've been curious about that too Brent, particularly because there seems like there is just so much stuff, even for a movie year.  This is probably comparable to when TPM hit, with Star Wars plastered all over everything you can see.  That, in combination with big movie pushes from Batman, Fantastic Four, etc., really makes for a lot of movie product taking up those action figure aisles.  Oh, and I was thinking the same way about that Darth Tater.  Probably shouldn't, its nothing I need, but I just can't rule it out 100% at this point.  The retail situation will be interesting to see though, and I'm fearful of all the stuff that is coming out this year that I want to pick up.  I have to realize that I don't have to buy it all right away on April 2nd :).

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
One of each for me, and every one will be opened and *ahem* displayed.  ;D

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
One of each (eventually).  I'll probably just get the Anakin/Vader and Palpatine/Sidious to start with.  Obi-Wan will wait until clearance, I'm sure.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
I'm still thinking about when I'm picking these up.  They will probably be somewhere low on the list, I'm sure.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
I'll get Palpatine, Vader, and Grievous, but nobody else.  Hasbro doesn't exactly have the best record on female dolls, especially those who have weapons to hold.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
One of each, which will be opened.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
One of each, which will be opened.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
No thanks on the Gunship (one is more than enough), but I will get an ARC fighter.

Playsets - $29.99
I'm going to wait on this one, but I probably will end up getting it eventually.

Unleashed - $14.99
First things I'm going for, they will be opened, and no, I'm not kidding.

Force Battlers - $9.99
No thanks.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
No thanks (I've managed to stay away from them with the exception of the Bounty Hunters and Vader/Obi-Wan)

Jedi Force - $7.99
Maybe if they do a Palpatine, but otherwise, no.

Darth Tater - $7.99
I'm debating on this one.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
No thanks.  Sure to join the ranks of Epic Force, the Cruisemissle Trooper, and the Jango Fett wrist launcher in the "It should have been in the clearance aisle to begin with" file.  :D

Role Play - Various Prices
If they do a Mace Windu lightsaber with the Episode II/III hilt instead of the half-Maul hilt, I might pick one up.  If they do a Palpatine saber, probably that too.  Other stuff, no thanks.

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
I'll get all but the Super Battle Droid, and a ton of army builders and a few extra Jedi for customs.  Especially Agen Kolar and Kit Fisto.  Should be able to finally make a good Mace Windu from them.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
At least 1-2 of each.  Any army builders I'll get a few more of.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
What the hell - I'll get them.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
Probably none, or just the Emperor.  He looks pretty bitchin.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
All three, and 3-4 of the AT-RT.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
All of them... multiples of the Wheelbike if there are more than one of them in the film.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
May get the Gunship on clearance... depends.  I don't know if I need another.  Anything else, 1-2 of.

Playsets - $29.99
The Mustafar playset.  Yep.  Can't pass on any playset.

Unleashed - $14.99
Maybe a few.

Force Battlers - $9.99
Probably none.  Mayube Vader if I feel crazy.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
Lord No!

Jedi Force - $7.99
No!!

Darth Tater - $7.99
Maybe.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
No probably not.

Role Play - Various Prices
Maybe the Chewbacca water gun.  Passed on it 2-3 times already at TRU.

 :P

Holy shitzu.  Im going broke just thinking about it :o  My wife put her foot down early with a new one on the way and my wife leaving her job.  My main focus has always been army building and I think that will be hurt the most since there are a ton of possibilities this year.  Put me down for:

1.  At least two of each fig.

2.  One of each beast.

3.  A few of the Deluxe.

4.  A few ships.

5.  Galactic Heroes.

I'm thinking on just getting the basic figures since I don't have the cash or room right now.  Hopefully in the future the prices on these figures end up being like all of the other SW stuff and remain low.

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
I'll try and wait on as many of these as possible, and won't be getting as many as everyone else.  NO SBD, BD, maybe not even the Clone (I like the AT TE one much better).  So we'll see.  I think I'm only buying 12 on 4/2, and that will be tough picking which ones to leave behind.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
Sidious for sure, Anakin maybe.  Clearance time.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
No way.  Maybe clearance.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
Maybe Anakin to Vader.  Maybe.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
The AT RT for sure.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
Clearance time.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
One fo the ARC 170.

Playsets - $29.99
Clearance time.

Unleashed - $14.99
I'd love to have Anakin/Obi, but I'll probably pass on all these.

Force Battlers - $9.99
Umm... nah.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
I love 'em but I'll pass.

Jedi Force - $7.99
Umm... nah.

Darth Tater - $7.99
It's cool, but nah.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
Right.

Role Play - Various Prices
Obi Wan's saber for sure.

Basic Action Figures - $5.99
I'll buy all these, especially Clones and Padmes. I'm concerned that I won't get a decent ROTS Obi-Wan, since I'm still waiting for a AOTC one that doesn't suck. Jedi Kicks just aren't my favorite things on action figures.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99
Oh yeah. I'm actually liking these, and they're a hell of a lot better than AOTC's initial Deluxe offerings.

Battle Arenas - $19.99
Maybe. These type of things yell 'Clearance' to me.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99
I'll probably get all of these, since, again, they look better than AOTC's offerings. I don't have a prequel Anakin or any era Vader 12"er, so that set is looking pretty good to me.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99
Heck yeah, these look like fun.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99
Sure, why not. They might be pretty cool, though I will wait until I've seen the film to buy them.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99
No to the Gunship since I have the AOTC one, but yes to the ARC-170, maybe two.

Playsets - $29.99
Well, I bought the Arena, so one could say my expectations for a good playset are somewhat dull. It might be a pretty neat place to display one's figures instead of being a 'play' set.

Unleashed - $14.99
I don't know. I want to get Grevious, but every time I find a new figure from this line, I hesitate to go to the register with it, since they're $15 a crack and I don't have any more room for them. I still have Bossk, Aayla, and Mace in package since I don't have a place to display them.

Force Battlers - $9.99
NO.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99
Maybe, but I still haven't picked up the Jawa/Tusken wave despite ample opportunity.

Jedi Force - $7.99
No. Leave it for the kiddies.

Darth Tater - $7.99
Oh yeah. A unique item, and hopefully one that won't become an entire line. If I see a Potato in an X-Wing pilot's outfit, I'll be ticked off so much that I just won't buy it. Yeah.

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99
I have a dislike of games like these, so no.

Role Play - Various Prices
The lightsabers, definetely. I just started in on those, and between the OTC and ROTS offerings, I'll be able to get the ones I want. Sweet! Though I'm probably the only collector who doesn't possess a Darth Maul or Qui-Gon saber.

Basic Action Figures - $5.99

Actually I'm likely to buy more Collection 2 than Collection 1...  I'm sure I'll be waiting for sales on many figures though, either way, save perhaps for army builders I want right now.  I've learned that the film years just don't pay off to go nuts buying up stuff...  It's improved, and I really am torn, but I'm gonna be selective with E3 like I was with E2...  It'll make up for me getting the Clone 4-packs from EE that Hasbro reamed me on, and army building the VOTC Stormtrooper at full price when I saw it...   ::)

I am torn though, and part of me wants to bite on getting everything because the figures ARE better this time around.  I'll definitely be getting lots of Clones though, and things I like most.

Deluxe Action Figures - $9.99

Clearance mostly...  Depends when I see them a lot, but the Deluxe line's definitely not aimed at us it seems, so I'm not sad to pass on these till sales and clearances.

Battle Arenas - $19.99

Depends again when I see better figures.  Sales, clearances most likely.  If the playset they attach to (if I'm thinking correctly here) was better, then maybe, but the Mustafar set blows.

12" Figures - $19.99-$49.99

Nope...  Gave up 12" figure collecting long ago, not going back.

Vehicles - Battle Vehicles - $14.99

AT-RT I'll get one at least, but unless the figure's good I dunno how many I'll buy right away.  Buy extras on a sale/clearance though, I think the thing is great overall, even the walking feature.

Vehicles - Assault Vehicles - $19.99

I'll wait for clearances mostly.  May get the Jedi fighters depending on if they're in-scale or not...  Gotta see some specific dimensions before I decide that though.  So far, I'm dejected at the droid socket mostly.

Vehicles - Gunship (Large) - $29.99

At this point, nothing...  The Gunship and ARC are both entirely too underscaled to suit me so I'll put them on the "to-do" list.  Clearance I'd perhaps bite, so we'll see.  At $20 or so I'd be ok with buying one at that then.  Otherwise I was underwhelmed.

Playsets - $29.99

Thing sucks, I'll wait.  Hated the Arena set, and this isn't a far cry from that pile as I see it.  Hasbro really needs to get into a format where the scale/scope of the playset is up to the consumer...  Interlocking, nicely scaled/detailed playsets would be ideal but it seems they'll never happen in our lifetime.

Unleashed - $14.99

Not my cup of tea save for one here and there, usually pertaining to a character-specific theme I collect...  Bossk has so far been the only unleashed I was interested in.

Force Battlers - $9.99

Hell No.

Galactic Heroes - $4.99

Hell No.

Jedi Force - $7.99

Hell No, and at this point I think Hasbro is dipping into too many pools.

Darth Tater - $7.99

Perhaps...  To be honest though, I don't care to pay homage to Hasbro as the license holder just yet...  It's only in the last year+ that Hasbro's really begun to make Star Wars a competitive toy brand on the shelves.  To me, that doesn't deserve a TON of praise in 10 years of them holding the license.

Keep this pace up, then having their elder toy decked out as Vader seems keener...  At the same time, I dig just how it looks.  And it's not expensive...  may bite.  It'll be on sale though, let's face it. :)

Attacktix - $5.99 to $9.99

See a previous post where I thought Hasbro was "dipping into too many pools".  If I wanna game, I'll do it with miniatures games instead.  Definitely another thing aimed at kids.

Role Play - Various Prices

Sabers as gifts for the kids perhaps...  Perhaps one for myself, I dunno, but these are the kinds of things I buy then have nowhere to put them, haha.

Not something I'm terribly interested in...  Wait for a sale or other incentive probably.
Title: April 2, 3, 4 - Your Plan of Action
Post by: Brian on March 28, 2005, 10:09 AM
For those of you heading out looking for the new ROTS stuff this weekend, have you decided on your plan of action?  I got to thinking about this further while reading Scott's "Opening Weekend Collector's Challenge" thread, and I'm really trying to decide what I want to get right off the bat, and how much to spend.  Around here, we never had the leaks, aside from the Galactic Heroes packs at Target (which very quickly disappeared), so I'm basically starting from scratch.  There is a big part of me that just wants to go wild, and buy everything that I can find (that I want)...but then again, its not like the majority of it won't be available for the next few weeks, months, and in some cases years ;).  There seems to be different ways of looking at it...you can get the bulk now, and not have to worry until new stuff hits.  Or, you can but a little now, and a little next week, and a little more the next week, etc.  I had really hoped to keep it under $200 this weekend, and maybe shoudl shoot even lower than that.  I think that I spent almost $200 opening night of AOTC merchandise, and that was kind of fun since that was the most I had ever bought at once.  Anyways, what do you think you'll be picking up opening night (or weekend).  Are you saving some for later, even if you could afford it now?  Will you pick up anything and everything you can find?

It is also hard to figure out, since we still don't "officially" know what will be on the pegs that day, and it will probably vary from state to state, store to store.  I'm just trying to decide if I should just buy some now, and pick up things here and there over the next few weeks or to just get what I can afford right away.  I'm really looking forward to this movie and its merchandise, and it should be a fun time.  This is what I hope to pick up this weekend and in the following days/weeks:

Basic Figures - Likely most of these, eliminating all incarnations of the Battle/Destroyer droids, picking the best version of "multiple release" characters like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, Grievous (any advice).  Depending on what is released that day (1-24, 1-32, etc.), could be up to 25ish figures or so, not counting multiples that might come later.

Deluxe Figures - Of the first wave, probably none.  Maybe the Grievous if it is better than the basic version, although basic would be cheaper.  Had planned on the Anakin to Vader, but now might wait for the one with the med table.

Unleashed - All 3 of the initial ones, even though I don't have room for them right now.  Trying to figure that out quickly.  I'd like to pick up Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Grievous right away, I just really enjoy this line.

Galactic Heroes - Found them a month or so ago, so I'm set until the next wave.  Nice to at least have something out of the way :).

Beasts/Vehicles - This is where I'm trying to figure out what to pick up now, and what to wait on.  I'm leaning towards likely picking up the Boga, AT-RT, and possibly the BARC Speeder right away.  I also really like the pics I've seen of Obi's fighter, and am a fan of the character, so I might pick that one up as well.  I'd also like to get the ARC 170 Fighter, I just think it looks cool.  I'm going to wait/possibly pass on Grievous' wheelbike, the Tri-Droid fighter, and definitely passing on the Gunship.  Have one, barely have room for that one :).

Exclusives - I've been back and forth on the Lava Vader.  We're big fans of Target, and would like to give them the business, but I just don't know if the figure is worth the hassle plus $13 price point.  I'd really like to get that Holo Yoda at TRU if possible, I'll probably check that out.  Still up in the air with what Wal-Mart will have, so we'll have to see.

Books - A number I want to eventually get, but will probably just pick up the Visual Dictionary right away.  I always enjoy those books.

I think that's about it for the first weekend, but its always hard to have restraint when you see all the product at once.  I'm trying to devise a plan of action to space things out, both for financial considerations and just to have something to look at/pick up in the coming weeks as well.  There's always that worry that you'll miss something, no matter how many times we've been through this and usually see the "rare" item in large quantities down the road.  Anyways, what is your plan?

Along the same lines....are many of you heading out that night to stores, or waiting until the next day (Saturday...day time).  I don't think that our local TRU is doing a Midnight Madness, but if they are, it sounds as if that Holo Yoda might not be available until April 10, so if that is the case, I won't bother either way this weekend.  I was planning on heading to Wal-mart around 11:30 or so Friday night, and then possibly heading to Target/Wal-Mart the next day again to go over things again.  I'm hoping it isn't too hectic on Friday night, but I don't know what to expect living in a larger city this time around :).  Anyways, are you going that night, or just waiting and picking over things on Saturday?

I think I'll be going out at night, but now since Yoda will NOT be at TRU, I may just focus on the army builders or figures I think will be difficult to find the next day - like the clones, senate guards, sith and jedi. I may just pick up my MOC set at TRU at Midnight Madness and wait to grab my openers the next day at Target.

Since my plans currently had me waiting in line at Target right after leaving Midnight Madness anyway about the only change in my plans may be to skip the TRU midnight madness altogether and go right to Target and camp out at the store over-night.

GalacticHunter posted a comment that people shouldn't be worried about these things being hard to get, but I think they aren't factoring the "professional eBayer" into account. If I made my living on eBay and all I had to do to turn a quick $50 profit was wake up at 5AM and go to Target to grab a red-chrome Darth Vader figure - I would do it.

I see that Wal-Mart.com has updated their Star Wars section with a number of ROTS products.  Nothing really for sale yet (coming soon), but perhaps it will give us a little bit of an idea of what will be available on 4/2.  It claims that "these products will be available April 2", so we'll have to see.  I'm sure it will depend on area, but anyways...here's the linky (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=173005&path=0%3A14503%3A226434%3A226667%3A226668).

Interesting - I only see 29 different figures on the WalMart website:

III-1 Obi-Wan Kenobi
III-2 Anakin Skywalker
III-4 SuperBattleDroid
III-5 Chewbacca
III-6 CloneTrooper
III-7 R2-D2
III-8 Grievous Bodyguard
III-9 General Grievous
III-13 Count Dooku
III-14 Chancellor Palpatine
III-15 Bail Organa
III-16 Plo Koon
III-17 BattleDroid
III-18 C-3PO
III-19 Padme
III-20 Agen Kolar
III-21 Shaak Ti
III-22 Kit Fisto
III-23 Royal Guard (blue pictured)
III-24 Mon Mothma
III-26 Yoda (Spinning Attack)
III-29 Ki-Adi Mundi
III-30 Saesee Tiin
III-31 Luminara Unduli
III-32 Aayla Secura
III-37 Vader's Medical Droid
III-38 AT-TE Gunner
III-39 Polis Massan
III-40 Mas Amedda

Where the heck are:

III-3 Yoda
III-10 Mace Windu
III-11 Darth Vader
III-12 Palpatine
III-25 Tarfful
III-27 Obi-Wan
III-28 Anakin
III-33 Clone Commander
III-34 Clone Pilot
III-35 Emperor Palpatine
III-36 General Grevious

I'm happy to see that the AT-TE Gunner is on WalMart's site, but I was REALLY hoping to see the Clone Commander and Clone Pilot come out on Friday/Saturday!  :(

Yeah, I noticed some of those missing as well, so this probably isn't entirely accurate.  You know we should at least be seeing the earlier numbered figures (Yoda, Vader, Emperor).

Not to mention the fact that I KNOW WalMart has received Collection 1, Wave 2 - (Tarfful, Spinning Yoda, Obi#2, Ani#2) - cases have been visually verified in the stockroom AND I saw but was not allowed to purchase a case of Col 1, Wave 2 figs late last week. So I've physically held all four of these figures in my hands.

My thinking is the the Yoda on the site is in error (to say the least) - the figure that should be pictured is III-3, not III-26

As some may know TRU matches ads, so here is the plan.... bring the Walmart ad with you (To whoever goes to MM TRU style) and save some of the $$$$$$$ stuff.

Good plan

Is there a Walmart ad already advertising their price?  If so, sounds good to me!  But I will still be going to Walmart probably!

Haven't heard of a WM ad.  I assume you're talking about the Target ad...?  But that comes out the day after midnight madness, so that won't work either.  Or coupon?

So what ad is this of which you speak, eh?  ???

If you're talking about the Target ad, I'm going to merge this onto the Target coupon thread, since folks were already suggesting a similar idea there...  :-*

It's true.  There is an ad, which I assume is a Friday circular. Yakface (!) has it up:

Walmart ad at Yakface (http://www.yakface.com/2005/walms1.JPG)

Very, very interesting. Could come in handy.

I got that ad in last sunday's paper here in MN... you might want to stop into the local WM and see if they still have them laying around.

Sorry for the crappy pic, but taking pictures of newspaper ads is obviously not my camera's strong suit.  :(

edit - just checked and the ad is on-line at Wal-Mart.com too...

It's a good plan if you would rather go there than Walmart.  For me, I'd rather go to Walmart anyday since I know I will have my pick of what I want.

Back in the Fall of 1999, when the figures cost $6.99 at TRU and $6.76 at Walmart, Kmart ran and ad with them for just $4.99.  At that time I was in college and money was really tight, so saving $2.00 a figure by bringing the ad to TRU was awesome.  I remember getting about 15 Battle Droids that day... I was very happy.

Very nice! I'll have to see if ours has been recycled yet or not; hopefully it's still around somewhere. If not, I'll take a trip to pick one up.

<March 31 Edit: Yep, I found it. :)>

So what is yours
Title: Re: April/2005 - Your Plan of Action

TRU Midnight Madness. I'm only budgeting $30 for the event. One or two deluxe or small vehicles, and a couple of basic figures.

I'm a college student; I need to save some for the books to buy at the Matt Stover signing, for stuff to buy at Celebration III, and so on. But rest assured I'll be diligently plugging away all year in $10 - 20 increments. :)

In a way it's too bad I can't start off with a spectacular blaze of sound and fury like I'd hoped -- but on the other hand it prolongs the fun to acquire them in bits and pieces through the spring and summer ... and fall ... and winter ... and following spring ... and summer ... and then on 75% off clearance ... and so on.

So keep in mind that this list is my long-term plan.

Basic, Deluxe, and Small and Medium Vehicles.
About 75% of these items. Picking the best version of "multiple release" characters like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, Grievous. One opener per, and multiples of army builders.

Exclusives
Holo Yoda: yes.
Lava Vader: screw that!
Wal-Mart Early Bird BS: see above.

Battle Arenas.
Probably pass. Clearance maybe.

AttackTix
A few. Waiting til I see them in person.

Force Battlers.
Probably Anakin and Obi, depending how they look in person. Later on, Chewbacca and Clone.

12".
I don't collect those, so pass except for the Clone Trooper.

ARC-170
Yeppers.

repaint Gunship
I don't have either previous version, so yep.

Playset
Pass unless I see an extremely good deal on clearance.

Unleashed
Anakin, Obi, Asajj Ventress (later wave), Clone (later wave). Pass on Grievous unless it looks really spectacular in person. I'm not a fan of the GG concept and up to now I haven't collected Unleashed.

Galactic Heroes
I've only gotten one GH set so far (Tusken and Jawa), and here I'll just get 1 or 2, like Chewie & Clone and maybe Yoda & Palps. Not a priority though.

Jedi Force
Haven't been paying attention to this line, so I'll take a look in person, but pass unless there's something really spiffy like a clone (noticing a theme here? ;)).

Darth Tater
Pass unless $1.50 clearance.

Role-play
Pass unless clearance. Maybe the Chewie watergun or bowcaster, or Yoda's saber.

Die Cast & Micro Things
Sounds promising; waiting till I see them in person so I can figure out exactly what they are.

Fast Food Happy Meal Gimmicks
Wait and see.

Books & Comics
One of pretty much everything (Visual Dictionary, Incredible X-Sections, Essential Guides, adaptations, whatever else), however I'm not touching any of these until after I see the flick. The one exception is the novelization, which I'll get at the Matt Stover signing event.

I'm pretty excited about release day. I'm going to Walmart at midnight, and again in the morning for the tent thingy.
