First Look: Spider-man 2's Doc Ock

Pretty cool, much better than Power Rangers Green Goblin

That movie poster looks awesome!  I'm very much looking for the sequel to come out.  When is it suppose to be released in theaters?

Sweeeeet.  I too cannot wait, and I definitely agree on the Green Goblin Power Rangers comment.  That was the main thing that I think screwed that movie.  I hear Bruce Campell is supposed to make another appearance in SM2!!

well Bruce is like Raimis best friend. so its nearly expected. hehe.

anyway i think this sequal can and possibl willbe better than the first.
i hear Dr. Connors is in it too.
i assume its just his normal character, as i haven't heard anything Lizard liek of the movie.
but we can hope.

Wow that looks totally amazing.

It is just introducing Doc. Connors so people will know who he is when he becomes the lizard.

Also Mary Jane is going to be dating John Jameson (J. J's son) so that they can use his alter ego in some later film.

So who is playing the new characters?

I did not like the first Superman movie. I hope this one is better.
I still have not seen the HULK.

Coolness...I am not sure why the first movie was slagged so badly.  I thought it was very well done, one of the best Comic adaptations done to date.  Sure they suped it up a little but it is hard to translate comics to big screen and very few have done an adequate job to appease the fanboy faction out there.

Sweet!!

Spidey is my favorite comic book character and I loved the first one.  This looks to be another awesome movie.

And the perfect casting continues - Alfred Molina is Doc Ock.

Can't wait.

Thanks for the trailer link, I am looking forward to seeing this one.  Doc Ock was always my favorite Spidey villain as a kid, and it will be interesting to see him brought to the big screen as well.  From the looks of the trailer, it looks good so far.  I enjoyed the first Spiderman, mainly because he was one of my favorite childhood heroes, and it was so great to see him in movie form finally.  The only thing I didn't care for in the first movie was the appearance/costume of the Green Goblin.  Just looked strange, Power Ranger-ish to me I guess....but the movie was still good.

Almost there...  Who's getting excited about this flick?  Think it'll be anywhere close to being as good as the first one?  I think it'll be a fun summer action flick, but will obviously lack a lot of the cool story that only the first one could deliver.  Hopefully Kirsten Dunst puts out another excellent wet t-shirt contest entry in this one though!   8)

And do they make ANY Spiderman or Spidey II action figures besides Spiderman and the main villain?!?  Don't think I've ever seen a single one, despite the 17,000 different versions of Spidey himself on the nearby pegs...   ::)

Ock isn't out yet, as far as I know.  Wouldn't buy it anyway as the Ock in the Sinister Six box set is much nicer.  Great box set that will be.

There are larger versions of Ock out now too though, rotocast stuff.

I know I'm really looking forward to this movie, my most anticipated of the year honestly.  Outside of Star Wars, I was into comics quite a bit growing up...and Spidey was at the top of that heap.  I'm hoping it will be even better than the first one, and from the looks of the trailers so far it looks like it should be pretty good.  Plus, I was always a bigger fan of Doc Ock than the Goblin anyways, and Molina looks like the perfect casting choice there too.  Plus, they moved the release date up to my birthday...so I've got to go see it opening day now :P

So who's going on Wednesday!  Everything I've been seeing, readin and hearing about this movie has been praise heaped upon praise heaped upon praise.  Almost to the point where this might be the greatest movie of 2004!

I'm gonna go for sure, can't wait actually, more excited for this than Episode III or almost anything else

And with Green Goblin and Doc Ock taken care of who do you want to see Spidey battle in Spider-Man 3?  My bet is on Venom or the Lizard

I cannot wait for this movie weds. BTW at 7:00pm Wal*Mart is having a special screening of an exclusive scene from Spider-Man 2, along with some featurettes.

I seriously doubt it will be Venom.

Lizard, maybe, or possibly even Rhino!

Count me in as well.  We went over and bought our tickets for a Wednesday matinee (1:00), so hopefully we're all set to go.  We both had vacation time to use up, and Wednesday happens to be my birthday as well, so I thought that was a good present.  I'm really looking forward to this movie...Spidey (and comics) were second to only Star Wars with me growing up (and still today :P).  From what I have heard, this is a really good movie, with fans and critics both really enjoying it.  Plus, Doc Ock is a great Spidey villain (probably my favorite), so its good to see him in this one.  As far as Spidey 3, it is hard to say.  I'm starting to lean towards the Lizard appearing next, or maybe a combination of one or two (second one being secondary).  There was mention once that the Black Cat was being considered for a supporting part in Spidey 2, but was later written out, so that might be a possibility as well.  It would be curious to see what they could/would do with Venom on the big screen too.

I can't friggen wait. This movie is gonna kick so many different kinds of ass....

I heard that the Venom storyline begins in SM2 (Mary Jane saying she's marrying an astronaut)....

I say that the Lizard will be in SM3, and but I hope we see some movies where there are more than one villian (Maybe put Vulture, Shocker, and Mysterio together for one?), and have Venom and Hobgoblin finish out the series.

I've read Venom too but Connors is sort of there in both movies so he could be a candidate.

Can't wait to see this one, may play hooky on Wednesday and catch a matinee, although my wife wants to go too.  We're going on vacation next week and will probably see it together then

i read somewhere that harry osborn taking up the mantle of the hobgoblin was most likely for spidey 3. although, i'd love to see them make a great cgi venom and/or carnage, i'm sure they could run wild with that. outside of those, the other spidey villains/enemies/partners i'd like to see turn up at some point would be:

the black cat
silver sable
kraven the hunter
the punisher
morbius
kingpin
sandman
mysterio
electro
the vulture

i'd also like to see them do something with his black costume. maybe tie it in to the venom storyline, kinda like they did with ultimate spider-man.

The wife and I took the day off today, and went to the 1 p.m. showing this afternoon.  Although I might be biased being a big Spidey fan, I thought the movie was really great.  I enjoyed the first one, but thought this one was even better.  I really don't think you'll be disappointed....I really liked it at least.  Alfred Molina is another great casting choice in this franchise, I think they have done a pretty good job with that so far.  Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are both great as well.  Before the first one came out, I wasn't sure about Tobey Maguire, but I don't know if I could imagine anyone else in that role now.  He is quite an actor, and really captures Peter Parker/Spidey well.

Just got back from seeing it. Like everyone else, I really, really liked it. People applauded in the theater. I'm pleased that they managed to pack so much of the characters' relationship development in without slowing the movie down. Pretty great. And the Doc's "birth" scene is vintage Sam Raimi, so much so that you feel like you've jumped back into an Evil Dead movie - chainsaw included. Fantastic.

Though everytime I see Alfred Molina I think "throw me the whip!"

Are you referring to the sequence where Doc Ock was on the table, and the scene where they cut to one of his tentacles speeding through the air, a la the eyeball in "Evil Dead 2"?

I caught that as well, if we're on the same page, here. I also remember there being a particular camera angle that was reminiscent to "the creeping fog" Evil Dead shots, from the tenticles optical lens.

Wow! Just, wow!

I loved this film! It was far more emotional than I had anticipated. I thought the movie was going to have far more "action"in it than it did as well. The character development was incredible and would have simply left the last 20-30 minutes flat if it were done any other way. The emotional involvment was what made this film for me. Couple that with great acting, brilliant casting, eye-popping action, tons of cameos and plenty of "winks" to Raimi's other offerings, as well as the inevitable set-up for Spidey 3 and this could very well be THE film of 2004 as far as I'm concerned. So far nothings come close since ROTK.

Really great film! I liked just about everything about it, but maybe that's because I'm a huge Spidey mark.  :)

They did set up the villians for the next several films, like Dr. Connors (Lizard), and Venom/Carnage (John Jameson brings the symbiotes from space).

I can't believe we have to wait until 2007 for number 3. :(

Correct at least as far as the origin goes.  I didn't read Spidey at all but didn't Reed Richards find out that the costume was more than it appeared and he found out how to remove it from Peter?  It then possessed someone else who became Venom

How did the Ultimate Spider-Man Venom origin work?

Never read the Ultimate stuff, almost $10 an issue for that up here :o  No thanks.

Richards discovered that sound was required to get the symbiote off spidey.  I still have all those issues somewhere around.

Good movie, BTW.  Enjoyed it quite a bit, aside from the usual buffoons behind that think your row of seats is their personal leg press machine ::)

I am really very tired of them having Mary Jane get married (almost) in every show.  People really aren't like that, are they?  Ooh, I can't have who I want, I'll marry you.  Geez people, weak part of the story.

Also not keen on the re-emergence of the Green Goblin with junior.  Oh I know, it's true to the comic books and that is great, but I really don't need to see a revamped version of the first movie.  Even the comic book was unable to sufficiently distance itself from the original GG idea and was at least subtley repetitive.  The Spiderman/Marvel universe is so rich with potential villains that going back to a Green Goblin story line would be disappointing, at least to me.  If it's peripheral as an unresolved issue, so be it, but go with someone else.  Mysterio, Venom, Black Cat (who I presume is out since it looks like MJ and Pete may now be together), Lizard.

Dang it, bring on the Sinister Six.   ;)

Saw it last night and thought it was great.  Alfred Molina was perfect as Doc Ock.  Wish he had more screen time.  The train fight was outstanding, as was any scene with JJ.

And they really set up the next movie with any four possibities, although the last two are probably stretching it - Lizard, Harrygoblin, Man-wolf or Venom.

Definitely want to see it again.

How did the Ultimate Spider-Man Venom origin work?

if i'm not mistaken, the symbiote is an oscorp project in the ultimate series. they could easily work that into the storyline, with harry taking over oscorp for his dead daddy. i know it had something to do with eddie brock and peter, with eddie showing peter the symbiote because it was his destiny or something? i think in the ultimate universe, eddie brock's dad works at oscorp. i'll have to go and dig out those issues and take a look.

IIRC, the Ultimate version of the symbiote was a project Peter's and Eddie's fathers were working on to cure cancer. I think it was for Oscorp, but I can't remember.

Finally got around to seeing this on Sunday...

Very good movie.  I really liked it, and I think I liked it better than the first one.  I can see that they are really thinking ahead, because (as others have already said), there were lots of little clues/foreshadowing for upcoming events.

I liked the way Molina handled Doc Ock.  I also liked the way that Molina "fit" the Doc Ock persona.  No need for a rippled-Ab super-villian, Doc Ock had all the extra flab a sciencey-type dork would have ;)

Anyway, just wanted to add on my kudos on a job well done.  If you haven't seen it yet, add my name to the growing list of those who highly recommend it!
